Run for Cover (1955)
An underrated Western Movie
This film is a criminally underrated old western. The acting, story, and cinematography are all great and it was extremely enjoyable to watch. This is one of James Cagney's later films but he is still full of energy and this is up there with his best performances. The movie has a lot of great lessons and themes about not jumping to conclusions, not trying to find the easy way out in life, and dealing with one's past. The cinematography is also spectacular throughout the entire film and I love the setting in the mountains. The story is suspenseful at times, emotional, and scattered with great action scenes. Overall this movie is a must-see for classic western fans and those who just like good films.
My Darling Clementine (1946)
The kind of film that sticks with you after a while after you've seen it
I don't care about the historical inaccuracies, it's a movie. And as a movie it's phenomenal. I have so much to say but I'll put it short, the film is a masterpiece. From it's great acting (Henry Fonda, Victor Mature, and Walter Brennan are all incredible), relaxed slow pace, amazing cinematography with dark shadows, and memorable song, this film is one of John Ford's best (and that's saying a lot). A film which you think is about a showdown, is actually a melodrama that focuses on characters and small experiences in life. I especially love the character of doc Holiday who is wasting away his life and not able to live up to what he was in the past. This perfectly contrasts Wyatt Earp who is optimistic and lives life in the moment. I absolutely love this movie and if you like slow and character driven films, you will love it too.
Five Star Final (1931)
A masterpiece that is even more relevant today.
This is such an underrated movie that more people should watch. The story of newspapers exaggerating facts and ruining people's lives just to get some juicy stories is even more relevant in today's time of "cancel culture" and social media. On top of the powerful plot, the film has some amazing acting. Mrs Townsend and her husband are very good in their dramatic roles. And, of course, Edward G Robinson (who in my opinion is one of the best actors ever) is fantastic and brings such a powerful energy to every scene he is in. Overall, this film has great acting, a dark and powerful plot, and a message that was ahead of it's time.
