Rocky Horror Show: Livestream Theater (2020)
Not perfect but it wasn't meant to be
On October 31, 2020, an innovative livestream of the iconic "Rocky Horror Show" was organized, uniquely themed as something similar to a "Rock the Vote" initiative, particularly targeting Wisconsin amidst concerns over political integrity in the state. The event was conceived as a rapid response to these political challenges, leveraging the urgency of the times to galvanize viewers. Despite the quick organization, the significance of the performance was underscored by the involvement of Tim Curry, whose participation was especially poignant given his health struggles at the time. The livestream format, adopted due to the ongoing pandemic, facilitated a reunion of several original cast members, adding a layer of nostalgia and excitement. This virtual performance not only served as a call to political action but also as a testament to the enduring appeal of the "Rocky Horror Show," demonstrating its capacity to adapt and resonate even in unprecedented times. The production, although quickly arranged, offered fans a rare opportunity to see Curry and other original cast members revisit their roles, delivering a memorable experience despite the minimal preparation time.
TLDR; I knew it wasn't perfect and it had Tim Curry and other cast members so it was perfect after all.
Black Mirror: Beyond the Sea (2023)
oh no, if only I could have seen this coming a mile away..
I painfully watched this stupid episode hoping the story wouldn't be nearly as simple as it seemed to be heading toward and I've never found so much disappointment. This story was gruesome and horrific but it was also more predictable than I ever thought it could be. I hated the first half and the second half only made that hatred even stronger. Thing is. I love Josh Harnett and he's played in some of my favorite movies but even he couldn't save this story. Rod Serling himself couldn't save this story if he had Stephen King as his muse. Find another episode to watch because you're going to be sooo disappointed in this that you're not going to want to watch Black Mirror ever again.
Black Mirror: Loch Henry (2023)
you see the ending a mile away
The title of the review is pretty much the entire review. It's soo utterly transparent as to what really happened that it's amazing anyone gave this better than a single star. It makes for an alright mystery but most definitely is NOT up to Black Mirror status. Everything seems alright with the acting, etc. But the story itself is horribly apparent. The worst thing is the ending. Something happens that didn't further the story in the least and it seems to only be left in to make it seem like it was worthy of being on this show. Big hint, it wasn't enough to do anything of the sort. This season has been iffy at best. With only "Joan Is Awful" being decent so far.
Night Court (2023)
Didn't think I'd like it but it does work...
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Bull, Mack, Christine, Harry, Roz, etc. But so far this show is doing a pretty decent job of keeping the spirit. It's not perfect but it's soo much better than what I ever expected. The revival could be a little better but I'm going to give them time to grow a bit. Those who are giving it bad reviews seem to have forgotten the first two seasons, as well as the two seasons where Dan was "born again"(or whatever) weren't the greatest seasons by far but everyone stuck through them and then it became(or re-became) a good show. It's just enough like it to keep my attention and just different enough to make me think they might have a good direction for the show.
The Imperfects (2022)
someone wanted this to fail...
There are a few things to like about this but unfortunately far too much garbage to let you like it. Let's start with the ending. They went through great pains to paint a picture through the episodes only to destroy it at the end just so they can get a "ooh look, a possible sequel" moment during the wrap-up.
Then there's the almost racist abilities that the characters have. A white girl who's a banshee, a Hispanic kid who's a chupacabra, and an Indian(?) girl who has a problem with her scent. How did nobody see a problem with those 3 things? Sure, they paint them as super powers but working from stereotypes seems derivative at best.
Next there's the "surprise powers" they use to resurrect a character. It's done in such a way as to actually insult the viewer.
There's definitely more to be disappointed with like the cuts that one might assume are supposed to bring some form of suspense or mystery to the story but actually just make it confusing or simply look like they couldn't afford good effects.
Ninguém Tá Olhando (2019)
If you like The Good Place, this makes a great companion series
I really love Nobody's Looking. I just binge watched the whole of season 1 in just a couple days(normally I try to do 1 episode a day, not 4). I was pleasantly surprised throughout the show and the season 1 finale was definitely not what I thought it was going to be. Can't wait for future seasons of this great show.
Upgrade (2018)
It's alright but not stellar
The story has issues that make this hard to suspend disbelief and it screamed of Ex Machina. The ending could have been loads better planned out as it seems to have been pieced together without making everything congeal first. If you're observant you'll wonder how Stem might have possibly taken over Gray's whole brain. Almost the whole movie can be summed up with "The AI made me do it" except there are few explanations how that might even be possible. Sure you can watch it and you may even enjoy it because it's definitely not the worst movie in the world but it's also not the masterpiece that some are claiming it is.
The Comedy Lineup: Sabrina Jalees (2018)
Relies too heavily on being "woke"
I'm all for LGBT rights, etc. But when your only tool is making fun of straight people and talking about how you're gay, it's as boring as straight people talking about being straight and making fun of LGBT people. She had an alright joke or two but beyond that I just didn't find her funny. I hope her non-comedy writing is better than this because she was more cringe than humor.
