A fiercely capable woman with ice water in her veins finds herself in a creepy-looking mansion, where she has to survive a supernatural threat over the course of one endless night and eventually ends up covered in gore and viscera? If I had a nickel for every time a horror movie directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (aka Radio Silence) came out in the last five years with that exact same premise, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but you know how the rest of the meme goes. If this past weekend's "Abigail" triggered a nagging feeling of déjà vu, well, that's probably because the vampire movie packing a nasty bite (you can read /Film's review by Bj Colangelo here) shares quite a bit of DNA with the directing duo's previous movie, 2019's "Ready or Not."
Apparently, the creative team decided to lean into those similarities even more.

Both extremely bloody cat-and-mouse chases through massive mansions, Radio Silence’s horror movies Ready or Not and Abigail (now playing in theaters!) are certainly cut from the same cloth, but do they actually take place within a shared universe? It was a question the filmmakers were asked, and their response suggests that the answer to that question is Yes.
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff asked the question of Radio Silence filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who co-directed both 2019’s Ready or Not and this year’s Abigail. As they point out, an Easter egg nestled within Abigail confirms a shared universe connection.
Bettinelli-Olpin tells Collider, “There is a portrait in the background of one of the scenes [in Abigail] of Henry Czerny’s [character from Ready or Not].” Gillet chimes in to clarify, “It would be a grandfather. A great, great, great, great grandfather [of Czerny’s character].”

Written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, the new horror film is a reimagining of the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters film Dracula’s Daughter and it follows the story of a group of kidnappers who are told to kidnap the daughter of a very powerful man and keep her in the house for 24 hours, but they quickly realize that the daughter might not be what she seems. Abigail stars Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Will Catlett, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Giancarlo Esposito, and Matthew Goode. “Ready or Not” directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin are ready for their horror movie’s sequel — and they say the new script is a masterpiece.
The collaborators and producing partner Chad Villella (aka Radio Silence as a trio) told Entertainment Weekly in an interview out Monday that they’ve been working on “Ready or Not 2” since the original came out in 2019. Plus, it sounds like they’ve got an “absolute f—king banger” on their hands.
“It’s getting figured out,” Gillett explained about the film, which has yet to be officially greenlit. “That’s what we’ll say: ‘Ready or Not 2’ is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening.

We have the 2019 hit Ready or Not to thank for landing directors Radio Silence the keys to the Scream franchise, the film released into theaters in August 2019 and scaring up $57.6 million at the worldwide box office. The Samara Weaving-starring fan favorite was made on a production budget of just $6 million, making it a nice little hit for Fox Searchlight.
So where the hell is Ready or Not 2, you ask?!
Jeff Sneider reports on The Insneider this week that Ready or Not 2 is in development, with director Adam Robitel currently in talks to direct the sequel.
Sneider additionally reports that Samara Weaving will return for Ready or Not 2, once again playing the character Grace. In the first Ready or Not, Grace is a bride whose wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.

Ready or Not was a deliciously twisted play on the concept of meeting the family of one’s fiancée. Samara Waving plays a young woman who is invited on the night of her wedding by her new husband’s rich, eccentric family to participate in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival. The horror comedy also starred Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Elyse Levesque, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell and was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who have gone on to direct Scream (2022) and Scream VI.
Ready or Not was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. However, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are currently involved with a new Universal Monsters project, so they will not be returning for Ready or Not 2. Instead, ComingSoon.net reports that Escape Room director Adam Robitel will be taking the reins for the sequel. The scoop comes from industry source,...

The breakout star of Love Lies Bleeding, Katy O’Brian, is also seeing her fair share of franchise roles. Prior to her latest A24 movie, O’Brian has played parts in projects for Disney like The Mandalorian and Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She will also be seen in the upcoming Twisters, where she says, “We filmed a tornado movie during tornado season in Tornado Alley.” She would reveal that her character is “a little sillier” than she has been used to, but she won’t go as far as to call it a comic relief role. “I don’t want to say comedic role, and then everyone’s like, ‘She wasn’t funny.’ We’ll say it’s silly and fun.”

As last year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (which has dropped the “Part One” subtitle since it hit home video) wrapped up, we saw that Tom Cruise’s Imf agent lead character Ethan Hunt would live to run another day – and pictures from the set of Mission: Impossible 8 (which won’t be called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two after all) show him doing just that! Cruise running is a big part of these movies and his overall career, so it’s nice to see that Mission: Impossible 8 will indeed have him moving across the screen as fast as his legs can carry him. There’s even some video from the set as well, if you want to see this run in action.

Five years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount is backtracking from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

If Artificial Intelligence took the place of humans, how would the world change? Would we begin pleading with AI to save our lives? These are a few of the questions that viewers still have after seeing Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One, the seventh installment in the spy action film series, which was released on July 12.
The Tom Cruise-starrer film was the first Mission: Impossible movie to receive an Academy Award nomination, and it also did pretty well at the box office. It also got points for portraying the possible risks of AI in a timely manner, which is causing serious concerns in the real world.
However, fans have not been shy about pointing out a fatal flaw that has left them baffled, maybe thinking twice. And yes, it is about Cruise’s battle against someone as ‘inevitable’ as AI.

The news of Tom Cruise setting a “strategic partnership” with Warner Bros. has certain “Top Gun” fans barrel-rolling out of control. Don’t panic, put on your oxygen mask before you attempt to help others — and definitely don’t jump without a chute, because a third “Top Gun” has been in development for a while now, a source told IndieWire.
“Top Gun: Maverick” screenwriter Ehren Kruger is working on the next film in the franchise, according to Puck News. The threequel-creating installment will reunite Cruise with his “Maverick” co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell. Paramount Pictures declined comment on this story; a spokesperson for “Top Gun” co-producer Skydance did not immediately respond to our requests for comment.

Hannah Waddingham has gushed that Tom Cruise is "gorgeous" to work with. The 'Ted Lasso' star, 49, was not willing to reveal any plot details about their upcoming flick, 'Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part Two’ and quipped that she will get "fractionally vilified for saying something nice" about the Hollywood star again.Speaking to Deadline at the Golden Globes at Los Angeles' Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (07.01.24), she said: "He's a fabulous person, great to work with. "It's hilarious to be fractionally vilified for saying something nice. What have we become if we can't say something nice? He's gorgeous, as is Chris McQuarrie, the director."During an appearance on the Christmas 2023 edition of ITV’s 'James Martin’s Saturday Morning', Hannah defended Tom, 61, against his critics after spending several days filming with him "intensely".She said: “I have to say, I have a real problem with anybody that goes at [Tom Cruise] now.

Tom Cruise can be a divisive figure; we here at JoBlo love the guy but he definitely has his critics, primarily those who hit at his personal life and dealings in Scientology. But if you take a look at any one of his insane stunts – or listen to his tirade against slip-ups during the Covid-19 pandemic that shut down production on Dead Reckoning – you’ll know this guy is the real deal when it comes to making movies. And if you have anything bad to say about the guy’s work ethic, you’ll have to answer to M:i co-star Hannah Waddingham.
Hannah Waddingham, who co-stars in 2025’s sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One – which has yet to be officially named, but we feel like the fates might align on this one… – suggested that her views on Tom Cruise changed while working with him on the eighth installment of the M:i franchise.

R.L. Stine, the famous novelist, had said that there wouldn’t be so many stories about zombies, undead, and other weird and strange creatures if they didn’t exist. Unfortunately, best friends Amy (Madi Monroe) and Mike (Marlon Kazadi) found out about it the hard way. Amy was a huge movie buff and had been obsessed with zombies and other creatures for as long as she could remember. Mike was just the opposite; he couldn’t stand these made-up stories written just for the sake of scaring children. Little did they know, Mike and Amy would soon unlock a century-old secret that would pin them against their own town. Zombie Town is one horror-comedy film you won’t regret watching.

Although her character, franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, was originally included in the script for Scream VI (watch it Here), Neve Campbell ended up passing on the offer to reprise the role for that film due to a pay dispute. Soon after the film was released, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich (who makes brief appearances in the 2022 Scream and Scream VI) said Campbell loved what they did with the latest sequel… but while doing a Q&a at the 2023 Monster-Mania Con, Campbell revealed that she only recently watched the film. It took her longer than we thought to see it, but her reaction was a positive one in the end.
Campbell told the Monster-Mania crowd (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “I hadn’t watched it until two weeks ago. It took me a minute, I don’t know why. I actually thought they did a really good job.

The mission will remain impossible to see for another year. The eighth “Mission: Impossible” film in the Tom Cruise action series, which is dropping the previously announced “Dead Reckoning Part Two” from its title, has been delayed from 2024 to 2025, as part of a sweeping shift in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming release schedule.
The direct follow-up to this July’s “Dead Reckoning Part One,” “Part Two” was initially scheduled to premiere June 28, 2024, just 11 months after its direct predecessor’s release. It will now be released May 23, 2025, almost a full year after its initial date.
The “Mission: Impossible” sequel faces the most significant delay, but it’s not the only big ticket item on Paramount’s slate to get majorly pushed back. The film takes the release date previously held by a fourth feature film spinoff of the “Spongebob Squarepants” Nickelodeon animated series. Julia Roberts was almost hired for a flashback scene in 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One' but was deemed too distracting.Director Christopher McQuarrie previously revealed he had briefly considered using technology to de-age Tom Cruise for a sequence in the new action film, and he's now revealed part of the proposal was to bring in the 'Pretty Woman' actress as his lover but the idea was ultimately dropped because he felt the audience would become “too distracted by how an actor that I had known for however long was now suddenly this young person.”Speaking on the 'Empire Spoiler Special' podcast, he recalled: “I said, ‘Ok, if I were doing this sequence, it would be Tom in, say, 1989. It would be Tony Scott’s ‘Mission: Impossible.’ That’s who would have been directing the movie before Brian De Palma, you know, in that era.

Director Christopher McQuarrie previously revealed that a flashback segment that would have de-aged Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One was briefly considered.
Now, McQuarrie is saying that the same segment — set in 1989 — also considered offering Julia Roberts a small role as a de-aged version of herself.
Speaking on the Empire Spoiler Special podcast episode, McQuarrie said Roberts was envisioned as agent Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) lover. But the sequence was scrapped altogether, McQuarrie said, because he felt that the audience would be feeling “too distracted by how an actor that I had known for however long was now suddenly this young person.”
Mariela Garriga eventually played the role in flashback. The film uses brief glimpses into Ethan Hunt’s life before he joined the Imf.

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” director Christopher McQuarrie revealed before the film opened in theaters that he rejected de-aging Tom Cruise for a 1989-set opening scene. Now on a new episode of “The Empire Spoiler Special Film Podcast” (via /Film), the filmmaker dropped that he considered reaching out to Julia Roberts to de-age her as well for the scene that never happened as planned.
The scene that made it into the film is a brief flashback that is interspersed throughout the movie. It depicts a young Ethan Hunt (Cruise) watching the villainous Gabriel (Esai Morales) murder his girlfriend, played by Mariela Garriga. McQuarrie looked into de-aging VFX in order to open the film with a more extended scene set around this fateful encounter.

A de-aged Tom Cruise wasn’t the only idea scrapped for “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.”
Christopher McQuarrie, director of this seventh film in the franchise, recently spoke on an Empire Spoiler Special podcast episode (via Slash Film) about how he considered featuring a de-aged Julia Roberts as Impossible Mission Force agent Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) ill-fated lover in a sequence that would’ve taken place circa 1989. McQuarrie previously told Total Film why he scrapped the sequence altogether, feeling “too distracted by how an actor that I had known for however long was now suddenly this young person.”

Don’t worry, Julia Roberts didn’t make a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, but there was a time when director Christopher McQuarrie was considering including her. Not only that, but she would have been digitally de-aged for the scene in question.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One included a few flashbacks to Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) life before he joined the Imf. I won’t elaborate further, but they involve a woman named Marie. While speaking on Empire’s Spoiler Special Podcast (via /Film), Christopher McQuarrie discussed how he wound up considering Julia Roberts for the role.
“I said, ‘Ok, if I were doing this sequence, it would be Tom in, say, 1989. It would be Tony Scott’s ‘Mission: Impossible.’ That’s who would have been directing the movie before Brian De Palma, you know, in that era,” McQuarrie explained. “We...

"Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" does something no other "Mission: Impossible" movie has ever done before: It shows us a quick glimpse into what Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise)'s life was like before he joined the Impossible Mission Force (Imf). As seen in the movie, that peek into Ethan's past takes the form of some brief black and white flashbacks revealing how Esai Morales' antagonist character, Gabriel, shares a history with Ethan. We learn Gabriel murdered a brunette woman named Marie and seemingly framed Ethan for her death, presumably leading to Ethan being presented with a choice: Go to prison, or put his skills to use for the U.S. government.
In the final cut of the movie, Marie is played by an actress named Mariela Garriga. But according to "Dead Reckoning" director and co-writer Christopher McQuarrie, he originally considered casting a superstar in that part: Julia Roberts.
