Following the success of Star Wars, America’s TV networks tried their best to launch new shows set in outer space. NBC offered the somewhat tongue-in-cheek Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, a show that paired out-of-this-world adventure with many moments of levity, many coming from the show’s requisite robot, Twiki. Felix Silla, the actor who played beloved hairy Addams family member Cousin Itt, has died. He was 84.
His “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” castmate, Gil Gerard, confirmed the news on Twitter. “Felix died just a few hours ago and the only good I can draw from his passing is that he didn’t suffer any longer,” he wrote. “I will miss him terribly, especially the time we had at our panels. Just telling me to ,” go ‘ f ‘ myself”.”
Silla’s death on Friday comes after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a longtime resident of Las Vegas, where he used to perform with his own musical combo, “The Original Harmonica Band,” between movies.
Born in a small village just outside Rome, Italy in January 1937, Silla came to the United States in 1955. A trained circus performer, he toured with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Show, which ultimately led him to Hollywood.

Felix Silla, the actor best known for playing Cousin Itt on “The Addams Family,” has died at the age of 84.
The news was announced on Friday by actor Gil Gerard, who co-starred with Silla on NBC’s “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” in 1979. “Felix died just a few hours ago and the only good I can draw from his passing is that he didn’t suffer any longer,” Gerard wrote. “I will miss him terribly, especially the great time we had at our panels. Just him telling me to go ‘ f ‘ myself.”
Silla recurred on ABC’s “The Addams Family” as the hirsute Cousin Itt for much of the show’s original run from 1964 to 1966. In a 2014 Los Angeles Times profile, Silla reflected on the character, who was created specifically for the show.
“A producer dreamed it up in some nightmare,” he said, adding that the original costume was made of real human hair.

Felix Silla, best known as the gibberish-spouting Cousin Itt on the 1960s TV sitcom The Addams Family, died today from pancreatic cancer. He was 84 and died in Las Vegas, according to a tweet from Gil Gerard, who costarred with him on the 1979-81 NBC series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.
Silla donned a full-body hairpiece, sunglasses and a bowler hat to achieve the role of Cousin Itt, who could only be understood by members of the Addams Family, thanks to his strange mumbling. The role was one of several where Silla’s face went unseen, including appearances as robot Twiki on Buck Rogers and as a hang-gliding Ewok in Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi.
One role where he could be seen was as the villain Litvak, who took on George Segal’s Sam Spade Jr. in The Maltese Falcon sequel The Black Bird (1975).

Exclusive: A growing dust-up over classic outer space hero Buck Rogers isn’t a fight over rights, and it won’t be warming up to become one if Legendary Entertainment has anything to say about it.
The Buck Rogers estate, overseen by the Nowlan Family Trust, on Tuesday fired off a cease-and-desist letter to Legendary about its recent announcement that it was developing a TV reboot of the popular sci-fi property. George Clooney and his Smokehouse partner Grant Heslov are set to executive produce Legendary’s Buck Rogers project with a script by Brian K. Vaughn and Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford also producing.
In the brief-ish letter sent by email and snail mail to Michael Ross, Legendary Entertainment’s EVP Business Affairs, the estate contends that “the Buck Rogers interests” have already penned an agreement with David Ellison’s Skydance Productions to exploit the property.

Former Buck Rogers in the 25th Century star Gil Gerard has come aboard a sci-fi project that wants to recapture the spirit of the late 1970s-early 1980s NBC series.
The actor will be an executive producer and series regular on 2491, a drama from creator Salvatore Verini (Fyi's Country Daze). Verini grew up as a fan of the Gerard-led show and says the new project was influenced by it — down to the title, which refers to the year 20th-century astronaut Buck Rogers returned to a future Earth on the series.

Andrew time travels 35 years back to revisit the theatrical release of the Buck Rogers In The 25th Century film...
Once synonymous with science fiction, the phrase ‘That Buck Rogers Stuff’ once called to mind everything the average person thought about Science Fiction - ray guns, rocket ships and robots. Certainly in the 1928, when the then-christened Anthony Rogers made his debut, he was something pretty unique in Sci-Fi - the space adventurer as swash-buckler. Given the nickname ‘Buck’ by John F. Dille, the novel, Armageddon, was adapted into the comic strips in 1929 and then in 1932, Buck Rogers became the first major Science Fiction radio drama. 1939 saw Larry ‘Buster’ Crabbe take on the role for a 12-part serial. All of this is to say that Buck Rogers was around for quite a while before many people of my generation discovered him.
Buck Rogers In The 25th Century arrived on UK shores via the medium of cinema.

When Good Holiday’s Go Bad: Rise of the Fiend: “Halloween, that magical night that compels adults to act like children, children to gorge themselves and a host of creatures and ghouls, those nasty beasties that hide under your bed, in your closet or the deepest recesses of your mind, all come out to play, scaring and frightening their human victims; at least, that’s how it was in the old days.

Columbus, Oh -- If you're dying to know what intergalactic badass Billy Dee Williams wants as his final meal, and if a guitar serenade from "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"'s James Marsters melts your heart like butter, you may have been one of the thousands of sci-fi and fantasy fans geeking it up this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Comic Con.
Just be warned that at this bash, Adam West, TV's "Batman" from the 1960s, is still too big a star to pose for a photograph, unless you pony up $125 (which I didn't do).
But for the most part, it was a swinging costume party, with star-studded guests. Burt Ward, who played the Caped Crusader's sidekick Robin, more than made up for West's misplaced arrogance. And the costumes these people wore were not to be missed.

Gil Gerard played Buck Rogers in the TV show Buck Rogers in the 25th Century for two years starting in 1979 and is co-starring as Buck Rogers’ dad in a new reboot. Between deep space adventures, he’s kept busy as a TV actor and can soon be seen in the new horror flick Blood Fare.

When the leaves begin to change and people start wearing jackets it can only mean one thing. It's September and it's time for Tiff. 9 days of films, plus 3 concerts and a football game to cap it all off. Oskee wee wee. I headed up to Toronto on Thursday afternoon. I've realized it's best to take the train into town, so I don't have to pay for parking, plus it's really not that much of a burden. On the train ride up, I was looking at the route map for the train service and looking at all the different routes and station names. Apparently, on the Richmond Hill route there's a station stop named "Old Cummer". I would not want to get off at that station. Gotta watch your step. I also spotted the emergency tool compartment. No, that's not where they put The Situation, but in fact where they put...

When last we reported on Fred Olen Ray’s newest foray into CGI-free creature featuredom, it was titled Dire Wolf. The distributors must not have liked the word “dire” because the title is now Dino Wolf. Hey, that “dino” suffix sure has done b-movie wonders for crocs and sharks so why not a mammal for a change?
Maxwell Caulfield (Empire Records) and TV’s “Buck Rogers” Gil Gerard star in this bloodbath from the venerable b-moviemaker responsible for such cult favorites as Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Evil Toons/ about scientists regenerating a dire wolf from a nearly fossilized skeleton using human stem cells that results in the spawning of a human-dire wolf monstrosity that breaks loose and terrorizes the small nearby mountain village of Santa Mira Springs.
Dino Wolf will be making its world premiere at the B-Movie Celebration in Franklin, Indiana, for any of you in that area September...
