Along with The Mist and Dreamcatcher, Cycle of the Werewolf was one of my first introductions to Stephen King, so the Master of Horror's powerfully poignant prose in that novella—combined with the legendary Bernie Wrightson's amazing illustrations—will forever hold a special place in my horror-loving heart, and so too does its film adaptation: Dan Attias' Silver Bullet (which really captures the blood-soaked slice of small-town life in Tarker's Mills).
It's especially thrilling, then, that Scream Factory will be unleashing their Collector's Edition of Silver Bullet on 4K Uhd and Blu-ray just in time for the holiday season, and we have a look at the full list of bonus features fans can look forward to, including a new audio commentary with Eric Vespe and Scott Wampler of The Kingcast!

A new episode of the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series has just been released, and with this one we’re taking a look back at a werewolf movie that’s one of the more underrated entries in the sub-genre despite the fact that it was inspired by a Stephen King story. Sam Mendes is predicted to win the top prize at this weekend’s Directors Guild Awards for his work on the World War I drama “1917.” Scroll down for our forecasts in seven categories listed in order of our racetrack odds, with our projected winners highlighted in gold.
Our odds are based on the combined predictions of more than 1,600 registered Gold Derby users who have placed their bets here in our predictions center as of this writing. They think Mendes has the narrow advantage against Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”). Both of their movies were big winners last weekend when “1917” claimed the Producers Guild Award for Best Picture and “Parasite” took the Screen Actors Guild Award for its ensemble cast. A win here may solidify one film or the other as the Oscar front-runner.

‘Seven Seconds’ Trailer: New Netflix Mystery Investigates the Aftermath of a Possible Police Killing
The last time Regina King played a grieving mother on TV, it was on one of the best episodes of 2017. A year later, in a different city, and on a different network, she’ll do the same in “Seven Seconds,” the latest anthology series from Netflix.
In the first full look at the series’ debut season, King plays the mother of Brenton Butler, a teenager who dies after being hit by a white police officer. In the bloody snow in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty, assistant prosecutor Kj Harper (Clare-Hope Ashitey) looks for answers that might help illuminate the case.

Playing tough-loving single mother Cissy Saint on Snowfall, filmmaker John Singleton’s new drama about the origins of the crack epidemic in America, Michael Hyatt got the part the way she’s gotten countless others: Auditioning.
“I’m a working actor,” Hyatt tells Et. The explanation is so matter-of-fact that the question of how she got the role on the new FX series almost seems ridiculous -- but that’s to say she sees it that way. The opportunity for the part came along and “I auditioned for it.”

Our lookbacks at the film adaptations of Stephen King arrive at Silver Bullet, starring Gary Busey...
The film: Horrific murders start taking place with mutilated bodies found across the small community of Tarker’s Mills, causing widespread panic. Sheriff Joe Haller (Terry O’Quinn) is out of his depth and, with Reverend Lester Lowe (Everett McGill), trying to stop the townsfolk forming a militia to go after whoever is doing the killings. In the middle of it all is wheelchair-bound Marty (Corey Haim) who starts to suspect there might be a real monster, perhaps a werewolf, who is committing the killings. Together with his Uncle Red (Gary Busey, in typical form), and his begrudging older sister, Jane (Megan Follows), they form a plan to try and stop the wolf.

Manhattan, Season 2, Episode 2, “Fatherland”
Written by Scott Brown
Directed by Dan Attias
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on Wgn
A major theme of Manhattan‘s season premiere “Damnatio Memoriae” was “Where is Frank Winter?”. This week’s “Fatherland” answers that question but now asks, “Who is Frank Winter?”. Or more specifically, what role does the erstwhile leader of the implosion team play in the grand scheme of things?
When Frank told his wife Liza about the gadget during Manhattan‘s first season finale, “Perestroika,” he said the weapon is so powerful it will stop all future wars. “We’re writing the prologue to a new era: The history of peace,” he said. It wasn’t clear if he was simply telling her what he thought she wanted to hear, or if perpetual peace was a fairytale he told himself at night to lull his demons to sleep. But if Frank...

With “True Detective” wrapping up, there’s a possibility we might even miss this show. Yes, it’s easy to make fun of, but that’s just the thing: there’s some fun to be had, even if it’s at the show’s expense. You can’t say they didn’t try, and if it was a big swing and a miss, a big swing is at least worth discussing. The penultimate episode, “Black Maps and Motel Rooms,” directed by veteran TV director Daniel Attias, was, in a way, one of the best of the season. But like many of the episodes, while it had its moments of real intrigue and suspense, it also drifted into a noir fantasy-land where the characters in no way resemble or act like real people. If one thing is consistent, though, it’s the season’s nihilistic worldview, which truly comes into focus in this episode.

True Detective, Season 2, Episode 7, “Black Maps and Motel Rooms”
Written by Nic Pizzolatto
Directed by Daniel Attias
Airs Sundays at 9pm (Et) on HBO
That is not the type of penultimate episode that True Detective needs right now. After a rollercoaster of quality over the last handful of episodes, this second to last installment is decidedly one of the lesser entries of the season. It is a confusing mush of all of the storylines covered thus far but with none of the curiosity-spurring or artistic moments of the last two weeks. At this point, half the conversations Frank finds himself involved in are either pointlessly dull or too confusing to follow why they are happening in the first place. The Caspere murder is so far in the rearview mirror that its supposed purpose as narrative propulsion of the season is a sad thing to think about rather than an exciting mystery to solve.

Welcome to the second installment of our summer trip through "The Sopranos" season 1. When I revisited early seasons of "The Wire," as well as the whole run of "Deadwood," I did separate versions of each review for newcomers and veterans, but over time realized that the newcomers weren't commenting much, if at all, and that it therefore made sense to simply do one review. Any significant spoilers for episodes beyond the one being reviewed will be contained in a separate section at the end of the review; so long as you avoid that, and the comments, you should be fine. Thoughts on the second episode, "46 Long," coming up just as soon as I finish unscrewing my belly button... "But she's my mother. You're supposed to take care of your mother." -Tony Second episodes are hard. Almost every TV writer will tell you that. With your pilot, you get to set up the premise,...

It has been a year since the first season and fans have been itching to see what is next for the acclaimed HBO series, True Detective. Now, a teaser gives them a small glimpse into what this season has to offer.
HBO released the first teaser for season two on Thursday with glimpses at stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch. The series steers into a new direction and story after Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson led the first season.
The new season will diverge from the model of the first one with director Cary Fukunaga (who directed every episode of the season) leaving the show. Fast & Furious veteran Justin Lin helmed the first two episodes of the season followed by Janus Metz Pedersen, Miguel Sapochnik, and Daniel Attias.
Nic Pizzolatto is still on board as the showrunner and writer.

The black-sheep prophecy has been fulfilled, and you have reason to fear. "There's something off about (Danny)," Diana says. "You don't see him clearly." That's John's problem, and maybe it has been ours, too. Maybe we've given him too much credit. Written by Arthur Phillips, "Part 8" shows a Danny who's lost in the depths of his decadence. When he stares down Diana in her living room, there's a look in his eyes that would have you believe he's a stranger. The way Danny barges into John's home, wakes up his family, and throws his drunk brother under the bus is almost sociopathic.I was floored by some of the darker moments in this episode (directed by Dan Attias), mostly because Danny seems like he's reached the point of no return. Mendelsohn's behind-the-beat lines and drawn-out scenes this episode reinforced that uncomfortable notion — that some insidious plant is blossoming inside him.

The Americans, Season 3, Episode 8: “Divestment”
Written by Joshua Brand
Directed by Dan Attias
Airs Wednesdays at 10pm (Et) on FX
Calling attention to the lies told in an episode of The Americans might feel like spotlighting the sex in an hour of Game of Thrones, or the cringeworthiness of an installment of Girls, but this week’s “Divestment” is particularly filled with mendacity. As with the violence (which shall be discussed in a bit), it’s not the amount of it, but the severity of the obfuscations of truth which impacts viewers the most. Accordingly, “Divestment” contains some of the most painful and exaggerated lies seen on the show in recent memory.
The discomfort begins in the first scene of the opening act, where Martha is interrogated by the titular character of last week’s episode. His curiosity about her pens brings steadfast denials from her. It’s hard...

Starring: Gary Busey (Uncle Red), Everett McGill (Reverend Lowe), Corey Haim (Mary Coslaw), Megan Follows (Jane Coslaw), Terry O’Quinn (Sheriff Haller), Robin Groves (Nan Coslaw), Leon Russom (Bob Coslaw), Bill Smitrovich (Andy)
“Silver Bullet”, based on a Stephen King novella “Cycle of the Werewolf”, is a worthy entry in the werewolf sub genre of horror. A good chunk of werewolf films are rather predictable in having the werewolves being the complete center of attention from start to finish but “Silver Bullet” takes the opposite route. The film has a lot of suspense building up to the eventual reveal, which I liked. I don’t know why I hadn’t watched this film before until now but I am glad I did.

The Directors Guild of America released their list of nominees yesterday. The shows that were recognized included previously nominated series like Game of Thrones, Modern Family, House of Cards, and Homeland but also a great deal of newcomers, such as True Detective, Orange Is the New Black, Silicon Valley, and Transparent, which all scored first-time nominations. Game of Thrones‘ Alex Graves and True Detective‘s Cary Joji Fukunaga receiving nods for their work was expected. However, what was surprising was that the only series to receive two nominations from the DGA was Homeland, which was recognized for the work of both Dan Attias in the episode “13 Hours in Islamabad” and Lesli Linka Glatter in “From A to B and Back Again.” If that second nomination had to go one of the already nominated series, I would have expected the DGA to honor Game of Thrones again for the technical achievement...

Between certain producers, the subject matter, the controversial depiction of Muslims, the Emmy wins and the genuine thrills that come from each episode, it is not original to discuss the similarities between Homeland and 24. “13 Hours in Islamabad,” which comprises 45 of the best minutes of Showtime’s Emmy-winning series so far, is as close as the thriller has gotten to the territory of its network precursor. Regardless, even with many similarities, the series still triumphs at following its own creative game. (Also, you wouldn’t hear the line, “I’m trying to kill the motherfucker who’s trying to kill us!” on 24, due to network constraints.)
The episode is divided into two halves. For the first 22 minutes – which take place in a form of real time that quickly conjures memories of the ticking-clock drama – the American embassy is under attack from Haqqani and his radicalized thugs. They reach the hidden stairwells...

“The Deal,” the fifth episode of The Americans’ second season, is one of the greats. Running longer than normal and giving every major character plenty to do, it could have been titled “Quartets.” Written by Angelina Burnett and directed by Daniel Attias, it boasted more plot than some shows pack into a season, yet it was all not just intelligible, but fascinating. One story followed Elizabeth as she closed off her relationship with Brad, the young Navy seaman whom she had convinced to steal the files of a Navy Seal who could lead her to the assassins of Emmett and Leanne. The second story line found Philip in an abandoned restaurant with a Mossad hitman who had interrupted his and Elizabeth’s kidnapping of Anton Baklanov, a dissident Russian Jewish scientist. The third plotline, centered on the FBI, saw Stan Beeman enlisting the help of previously pushed-out Agent Gad to find Anton.

The Americans Season 2, Episode 5 “The Deal”
Written by Angelina Burnett
Directed by Dan Attias
Airs Wednesday nights at 10pm Et on FX
A fundamental lesson for any “budding capitalist” (I’m talking to you, Oleg) is understanding the concept of value: and in the spy world, this idea does not boil down to dollars and cents, but advancements of principles and ideologies. With the life and loyalties of the very valuable mind of a Jewish physicist living in the United States available for trade, “The Deal” is an episode about value – not only what these characters value in their world, but how easy it is to reduce human life to a single metric, fighting a war to “save” humanity in the most inhumane way possible, another fascinating hour in a season of The Americans that’s beginning to build towards larger stories.

Back in the Game, Season 1, Episode 6, “Night Games”
Directed by David Katzenberg
Written by Scott Boden Hodges
Airs Wednesdays at 8:30pm Est on ABC
Back in the Game loses its way again this week as it continues to stick to a structure that simply doesn’t work. Once again we see those horribly distracting titles at the beginning of the episode that introduce characters we should already know by now. This show is quite similar to some of its competitors, Trophy Wife and The Goldbergs in particular. With each of these shows airing Halloween episodes this week, and each being family-driven comedies, these similarities stand out. “Night Games” is a combination of the two story lines that can be seen in both last night’s episodes of Trophy Wife and The Goldbergs. Similarly to Pete from Trophy Wife, The Cannon is motivated by his annoyance of youngsters on Halloween.

Directed by Joe Nussbaum
Written by Eric Goldberg & Peter Tibbals
Airs Wednesdays at 8:30pm Est on ABC
After last week’s mess of an episode, last night’s Back in the Game is quite an improvement. Although it doesn’t do everything right, “She. Could. Go. All. The. At first it is a little odd to watch her struggle with asking Jack out because she is usually so confident, but Terry soon turns this around and then continues to remain strong throughout the episode. Once again, Back in the Game struggles with the message it sends this week. Last week we saw Danny fight through humiliation to...

Back in the Game, Season 1, Episode 3, “Play Hard or Go Home”
Directed by Eyal Gordin
Written by Gregg Mettler
Airs Wednesdays at 8:30pm Est on ABC
Wednesday’s line-up is continuing to be the strongest this fall as the new shows begin to find their footing. Back in the Game is a lot stronger this week, as “Play Hard or Go Home” starts to follow a more enjoyable format. The episode is much more entertaining than the first two, as it finds a way to include all of the characters. So far the focus is usually just on Terry and while it is entertaining, the show really feels like it’s missing something. The strongest part of this episode is that The Cannon gets a bigger and more meaningful storyline. Back in the Game, Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot“
Directed by Robb & Mark Cullen
Written by John Requa & Glenn Ficarra
Airs Wednesdays at 8:30pm Est on ABC
Following the success of HBO’s Eastbound and Down and FX/Fxx’s The League, it was only a matter of time before more sports-driven sitcoms emerged. The Back In The Game’s pilot isn’t the strongest or the most inspiring, but it’s certainly not the worst either. The premise of the show is quite promising because it’s focused on likeable, underdog type of characters instead of just obnoxious men (unlike some of the other new shows). Although there are a few horrible and sexist men present, the pilot suggests that the rest of the series will be spent exploring how our female leads challenge and outsmart them. Although that’s the driving force of the show, a large part of...

Ray Donovan, Season 1, Episode 5: “The Golem”
Written by: Sean Conway
Directed by: Dan Attias
Airs Sundays at 10 Pm (Et) on Showtime
This week’s Ray Donovan is dark, dismal and ultimately useless. For the past four episodes, the show has been two completely separate entities, but as the season creeps towards its eventual conclusion (we’re one episode from the halfway point) those two entities will be escalating in vastly different ways. Ray Donovan‘s thriller angle needs to push its pieces in place to set up big reveals, plot twists and dramatic payoffs. Its comedic side needs none of this. Comedies can (and often do) establish season-long arcs, but rarely do they need the kinds of intricacies inherent in a crime story.
“The Golem” is an episode that shoves the laughs bluntly out of the way to advance the story forward. In doing so, it makes it painfully...

Apologies for missing last week due to technical difficulties. As The Killing continues its third season, one thing is very clear: this is a much different show in many ways from its first two seasons. I also expressed my reservations with regards do the storyline that has seemed to take its place – the one revolving mainly around the character Bullet and her orphan friends who hang around the slums of Seattle. “The Sun”
Written By: Angela Robinson
Directed By: Dan Attias
Original Airdate: 23 June 2013
In This Episode...
On a bridge, an inter-dimensional portal opens up, and something is struggling to exit. It succeeds.
Jason is now at the wheel of the old man’s car. The old man appears and slams Jason. He is not Warlow, as I originally thought; he is Niall, and he is Jason and Sookie’s fairy godfather. Niall has been watching Jason for years, and he doesn’t think Jason is “ready for what comes next.” Jason takes Niall back to Sookie’s house, where he examines the portal Warlow tried to come through. Niall goes into the portal, comes out a few minutes later: “It’s worse than I thought.”
Before the boys arrived, Sookie was hurrying to work (yes, apparently she still has a job) when she heard someone in pain...
