You can take Soleil Moon Frye out of Punky Brewster, but you can’t take Punky out of Frye, as actress said she and her character are nearly one in the same.
During Peacock’s leg of the TCA Winter Tour on Wednesday, Frye joined fellow cast members Quinn Copeland, Cherie Johnson, Laurien Lindsey Donzis and Freddie Prinze Jr. and executive producers Jim and Steve Armogida to tease the upcoming Peacock revival.
“Punky is such a part of me. I don’t know where she ends and I begin because we are so much the same,” Frye said during the panel.
The reboot sees Frye reprise her childhood role as the grown-up Punky Brewster, a single-mother of three trying to keep her life on track when she meets Izzy (Copeland), a young girl in the foster system who reminds Punk a lot of her younger self. The “continuation,” as Frye dubbed the series,...

In the mid to late-1980s, the titular character on “Punky Brewster” (played by Soleil Moon Frye) was a free-spirited, elementary school student coming of age while being raised by a foster father Henry, played by George Gaynes. Now, almost four decades later, Punky is a newly single mom experiencing a second coming-of-age when she bonds with young, free-spirited foster girl Izzy, played by Quinn Copeland, in Peacock’s continuation series of the same name.
“Really through Izzy’s character Punky finds so much of her Punky power again,” Frye, who also serves as executive producer on the new show tells Variety. “I feel like so many of us grow up and it’s so easy to forget that inner spark. So, to feel that coming back again and reigniting is such an amazing and incredible feeling for both me and for Punky.”

If there are three things that Richard Linklater‘s School of Rock taught us about the fine art of hard rocking and getting good grades in elementary school, it’s that rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme and you better get to school on time. Those timeless lessons, drilled into audiences’ heads by the grand master of rock n’ roll Dewey Finn, played by Jack Black, would be immortal by themselves, but now Linklater and Scott Rudin are bringing School of Rock to Nickelodeon as a TV show so the children of the world never have to go without that sweet, sweet hard rocking. The live-action series has an immediate order for 13 episodes with production begining this fall, and it will follow the same premise of the movie: Finn, a rocker who has seen better days (he will totally have his rent by the end of the week, dudes...

For those about to rock, Nickelodeon salutes you.
The kids’ network has just picked up a straight-to-series, 13 episode adaptation of School of Rock, Richard Linklater’s 2003 family comedy starring Jack Black, THR reports.
A School of Rock kids show is a no-brainer. Not only did the kid-centric, family friendly film make up to the tune of $131 million, it’s a great opportunity for Nick to trot out a cast of talented, singing and dancing actors/pop stars as they and the Disney Channel are so committed to churning out.
It’s frankly amazing it didn’t happen sooner. What’s even more amazing is this comes after news from earlier this year that Andrew Lloyd Webber is developing a School of Rock musical that may premiere on Broadway.
The show will be a live-action series, not a cartoon, and will follow the same storyline of the Linklater film, in which Dewey Finn (ahem,...

Nickelodeon has signed up for the School of Rock.
Based on the 2003 film of the same name, the kid-focused network is launching a new live-action musical-comedy series also titled School of Rock. Nickelodeon has already ordered 13 episodes of the series, which will follow Dewey Finn, the “down-on-his-luck rocker who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school as he teaches his eccentric, unconventional, and overachieving students to play and love rock ‘n’ roll.”
The straight-to-order series marks studio Paramount Television’s first foray into kids programming. The series will be written by Jim and Steve Armogida, who will also serve as showrunners.

Nickelodeon hasn’t been making headlines for good reasons lately. The kid-targeted network lost its popular Victorious/iCarly crossover series Sam & Cat sooner than expected due to a clash involving its stars Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy, and it also recently moved animated fantasy series The Legend of Korra online after extremely low ratings. However, things may be turning around for the network today, with word that it has partnered with Paramount TV to revive the 2003 Jack Black comedy School of Rock as a live-action series.
The new show, which has landed a 13-episode, straight-to-series order from Nickelodeon, will follow the same premise of the film, in which rocker Dewey Finn (Black’s role) posed as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school, imparting to his young pupils the skills necessary to play and appreciate rock ‘n’ roll.

A School of Rock television show is to be aired on Nickelodeon.
The series will follow the same premise of Jack Black's 2003 hit film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It will revolve around Dewey Finn, a failing rocker who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious school and teaches his students how to play rock music.
Nickelodeon is teaming up with Paramount to create the show, which will be Paramount TV's first attempt at kids programming.

While Richard Linklater's "Boyhood" continues to do strong box office, becoming the third highest grossing IFC Films movie ever, the film has a long way to go to reach the financial heights of "School Of Rock." The director's 2003 comedy starring Jack Black was a surprise hit, earning over $80 million at the U.S. box office, prompting discussion of a sequel. While that project never came to pass, last year it was reported that Andrew Lloyd Webber was considering bringing the concept of a down-and-out rocker impersonating a substitute teacher to the Great White Way. In the meantime, the further adventures of Dewey Finn are set to take place on the small screen. THR reports that Nickelodeon has given a straight-to-season, thirteen episode order for a live action "School Of Rock" series, with Linklater and Scott Rudin to executive produce the Paramount TV show. Jim and Steve Armogida ("Crash & Bernstein,...

The kid’s show Crash & Bernstein only just began its first season last fall. The fun series follows the misadventures of Wyatt Bernstein, a young man who is 12 years of age and lives with three sisters. When he wishes for a brother, he gets his wish come true as a “Build-a-Bestie” puppet comes to life. Hijinks most definitely ensue. Does it remind anyone else of Calvin and Hobbs? Wyatt is acted by Cole Jensen and the series is created by Eric Friedman. Its executive-produced by Friedman, Mike Larsen, Jim Armogida and Steve Armogida.
Production for the show takes place in Van Nuys, California, where season 2 will develop starting in July in preparation for a fall 2013 premiere on Disney Xd,...

Vince Vaughn will executive produce and develop a show for TV network Fox and and 20th Century Fox TV studio, together with his sister Victoria Vaughn. No title has been suggested yet for their series, but it is known that it will be a single-camera comedy about two young men adjusting to life post college years.
The Vaughns are reportedly in final negotiations with Fox for the half-hour pilot which release date is still a question mark. Vince will be assisted by sibling scribes Jim and Steve Armogida who had credits in "Grounded for Life", "My Family" and the short-lived "Courting Alex".
As the producer, Vince will have the authority to pick the cast and contribute in the artistic direction of the show.
