The Groundlings will host an improv musical fundraising event on Oct. 26, featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte. The event, held at the Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar, will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support below-the-line workers impacted by the strikes.
“One Night Only,” created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, is a full production of a well-known Broadway musical. The catch? The improvisers are given the script and their roles only 24 hours in advance.
“These strikes have taken a terrible toll on our amazing crews, and it isn’t over yet. Even with the WGA strike ending, most crew members won’t be able to start work again until the SAG-AFTRA deal is ratified,” Leeds said in a statement. “Even then, many will be fighting to survive as they wait for productions to start back up.

Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig, and Will Forte are among the performers scheduled to take part in One Night Only, a Groundlings musical improv show to benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund.
The show, set for Thursday, October 26 in Los Angeles, will be a “fully-realized production of a well-known Broadway musical,” the catch being that the performers won’t know what show or their roles until 24 hours before curtain. “The audience finds out what the show is when the curtain rises on the most terrified group of actors you will ever see,” the improv company says.
Created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, One Night Only will include performers Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig, Ana Gasteyer, Will Forte, Jim Rash, Nat Faxon, Edi Patterson, Julian Gant, Michaela Watkins, Greg Worswick, Lyric Lewis, Jim Cashman, Allison Dunbar, H Michael Croner, Michelle Noh, Patty Guggenheim, Stephanie Courtney, Matt Cook,...

Sarah Cooper may seem like a viral sensation, but that’s hardly the case for those familiar with her comedy career. Since 2014, Cooper focused on hilarious subversions of corporate culture and empty tech speak in books like “100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings” and “How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings,” both based on her time working at a tech company. It happened to be her Trump lip sync videos, which people either love or absolutely do not understand, that brought her the attention of Netflix and celebrities. With Maya Rudolph producing and starring and Natasha Lyonne directing, “Everything’s Fine” is a star-studded event.
Most viewers will probably watch out of curiosity. What could a comedy special from a viral lip sync comedian look like? Well, it looks like a non-stop parade of celebrity cameos and leftover “Saturday Night Live” sketches that often feel too long. As...

“Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine” finally dropped on Netflix on Tuesday — and your favorite Trump lip-sync star did not disappoint with the celebrity cameos.
In the roughly 50-minute comedy special, directed by Natasha Lyonne with Maya Rudolph, Cooper primarily stars as herself, the host of a morning news show called “Everything’s Fine” where, you guessed it, everyone pretends everything is just fine despite the chaos that is 2020 and the Trump administration.
If you’re looking for more Trump lip-sync moments, Cooper delivers — and adds a couple more people to her repertoire. But she’s also joined by a lengthy guest star list that includes Fred Armisen, Megan Thee Stallion, Jane Lynch, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Hamm, Aubrey Plaza, Connie Chung, Ben Stiller, Helen Mirren, Jonathan Van Ness, Winona Ryder, Marisa Tomei, Danielle Brooks, Tommy Davidson, Jordan Black, Marcella Arguello, Eddie Pepitone and Maya Rudolph.
Yup, that’s it.
So who’s who?...

Megan Thee Stallion and Helen Mirren are among the guest stars set for Sarah Cooper’s Netflix special entitled “Everything’s Fine.”
It is not yet known who the rapper and Oscar winner (respectively) will portray in the special streaming Oct. 27. But they are far from the only big-name special guests joining Cooper in sketches and interviews that comment on political and racial issues, as well as topics of gender and class. Other newly-announced guest stars for the special include Aubrey Plaza, Ben Stiller, Connie Chung, Danielle Brooks, Eddie Pepitone, Jane Lynch, Jonathan Van Ness, Jordan Black, Marcella Arguello, Maya Rudolph, Tommy Davidson, Whoopi Goldberg and Winona Ryder.
Comedian Cooper went viral a few months ago for her lip-synching videos on social media. The first was “How to Medical” in April 2020 and set Cooper down a path of portraying President Donald Trump as he talked about different aspects of the coronavirus pandemic.

So Long, Boulder City: You Can Now See a Drag Version of Emma Stone's One-Woman Show from La La Land
Here’s to the ones who dream … then make their version of La La Land‘s play-within-a-movie a reality.
Actor and comedian Jimmy Fowlie is staging (and starring in) a full-length drag version that imagines what the ill-fated one-woman show performed by Emma Stone‘s character in the 2016 film might have been. And it’s already so popular, the Celebration Theatre in Los Angeles had to add dates.
“I just have to be clear — this show is Absurd!” Fowlie told Queerty. “We are doing some justification of the facts from the film, but it’s also a comment on self-masturbatory one-person shows.

Eric Kissack's “The Gunfighter” is a finalist for the top prize at TheWrap's third annual 2014 ShortList Film Festival. Written by Kevin Tenglin, the story follows a weary gunfighter who walks into a bar, looking for a drink. What he finds instead is a building full of raunchy people and an audible, bloodthirsty narrator. The cast includes Shawn Parsons, Scott Beehner, Eileen O'Connell, Jordan Black and Timothy Brennan, though it's the unseen narrator voiced by “Parks and Recreation” star Nick Offerman who steals the show. A web series born from the frustration of its lead actress is becoming a big hit on YouTube. Ask A Slave, starring colonial reenactment actress Azie Mira Dungey, has scored 400,000 views and is one of the best new comedy series on the web. Ask A Slave is based off Dungey's experiences as an employee at Mount Vernon, George Washington's old home. At the popular historical site, Dungey was a "living history character," playing one of the Washingtons' slaves. As a result, she had to spend her work hours fielding ridiculous questions from tourists. In the web series, Dungey and director Jordan Black present some of the most ridiculous questions, ranging from curiously naive to absurdly ignorant. Dungey's Lizzie Mae responds by providing sarcastic, snarky, and ultimately informative answers. In the second episode, Lizzie Mae also talks to a white abolitionist, comically shining on the misinformed attitudes of Northern abolitionists. Ask...

I'd say this is quite timely, in light of what I previously fondly dubbed "slave movie fever," given the half dozen+ slave-themed films released in the last year, or that will be released in the next. It's a new web series titled Ask A Slave - a satirical work directed by Jordan Black, starring Azie Mira Dungey (also the writer, producer of the series), which is essentially a "talk-show" hosted by a character named Lizzie Mae, a housemaid to George and Martha Washington. The creators of the series say that it's based on the actress' time working at a popular historical site. So what you're getting heree are very real questions that were posed by attendees to the...

Since our last update in the form of a teaser trailer, it looks like the next drama from Jordan Roberts has officially gone with the title 3, 2, 1… Frankie Go Boom. Starring Bridesmaids supporter Chris O’Dowd, along with Sons of Anarchy leads Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman, the synopsis sees a YouTube video go viral, potentially ruining the lives of those involved.
We gave it a positive review out of SXSW, calling it “a good time” while the film jumps from “from absurd scenario to absurd scenario.” This trailer makes this seem certainly so, with a bunch of different wild situations happening and it also confirms that Perlman is indeed just a supporting character, despite what early drag-filled marketing may have suggested. Check it out below via Apple, along with the poster, for the film also starring Lizzy Caplan, Chris Noth, Whitney Cummings, Nora Dunn, Sam Anderson, Jordan Black and Adam Pally.

Despite starring both Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman, I can assure you that Frankie Goes Boom is no Sons of Anarchy spin-off. In fact, Perlman couldn’t be farther away from his character on that hit FX show. Director Jordan Roberts dressed the actor up in drag for the film that hit at SXSW and today, we’ve got the first trailer.
Although the response was mostly mixed, we gave it a positive review, calling it “a good time” while the film jumps from “from absurd scenario to absurd scenario.” In this first teaser, disguised as a clip, Bridesmaids star Chris O’Dowd introduces Hunnam to Perlman and it does look like some wacky fun, despite a poor production aesthetic. 2 Broke Girls 1.20 "And the Drug Money" Review - P for Progress
CBS
2 Broke Girls undergoes something of an experiment in its latest effort "And the Drug Money" from its first season, which sees Max (Kat Dennings) and Caroline (Beth Behrs) taking part in a drug trial to raise enough money to hire Caroline's lawyer in a deposition for her father. "And the Drug Money" makes some progress in correcting 2 Broke Girls on its low attention span, but still makes a few missteps.
Boy, we’ve reached that awkward time of year where (if you’re anything like me), good TV just winds further down and down, and we’re simply waiting for the network shows to run out the clock, coast by on the good Summer programming we know to be ahead, and end up right back where we started. It’s too early for season finales, but its not...

Funny or Die presents its own version of "Nurse Jackie" called "Nurse Jackee". Starring former "Sister, Sister" actress Jackee Harry, the spoof opens with the title character pushing away a woman who has an "ugly-ass haircut" which resembles to Jackie Peyton's.
Jackee is a brash, sexual nurse with obsession to cosmetics. Since using make-ups is forbidden for hospital staff, she sneaks out only to apply her pink lipstick. But she finds a partner in crime in a male doctor who is willing to apply nail polish on her toes.
Jackee's addiction is caught by a female doctor after her fake eyelash drops on a patient's exposed part during an operation. Confronted by the doctor about her problem, she takes out all make-up products from her pockets and admits that she is addicted to being fabulous.

What’s the only thing better than Community meets Sergio Leone meets Star Wars? An awesomely unnecessary and unexplained cameo by Laurie (Busy Philipps) and Travis (Dan Byrd) from Cougar Town. They appear for less than a second after Greendale wins the epic paintball battle. A wink at Abed’s love of the poorly titled Courteney Cox show, their cameo was an awesome gift of an Easter egg for those of us who love unapologetically quirky comedies. The thing that surprised me most, though, was that NBC let one of its shows give airtime to a non-nbc property. Bravo, and Pennycaaaaaannnnn!

Allison Strong, Union City, N.J.My boots were made for walkin.' Power walkin', that is. No matter what I'm wearing—boots or sneakers—I'm always headed somewhere and burning rubber while I'm at it. If you thought that after I retired my character shoes last month my power walking—and sometimes power running—days were over, you'd be wrong. All that's changed is the scenery. Now, instead of my former mission of making it to the job on time, I'm walking feverishly to University Hall for two-and-a-half-hour lectures like it's my job. Rather than dodging starry-eyed tourists armed with oversized cameras in Times Square, I'm dodging hazy-eyed college kids armed with backpacks so heavy they could probably squish my toes on my way to the theater building. Oh, and there are trees and dining halls with meal plans, instead of skyscrapers and overpriced delis. It's nice and normal...
