In early 2003, the American Society of Cinematographers held the first meeting of its Motion Imaging Technology Council, made up of Asc members, associates and entertainment technology leaders. Since then, the group chaired by member Curtis Clark has done pioneering work in advancing entertainment technology. The Visual Effects branch of the Academy announced its shortlist in the Best Visual Effects category at the 2019 Oscars, advancing Marvel’s “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” in the race.
After announcing its initial field of 20 films earlier this month, the VFX branch whittled that list down to just 10 vying for the final five Oscar nominations announced on Jan. 22.

Richard Glickman, who served as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Awards Committee for more than 25 years, has died. He was 91.
Glickman died Feb. 18 in Sherman Oaks, Calif., his daughter, Katherine Moore, announced.
A consulting engineer and expert in the field of lighting and related technology for film, television and the stage, Glickman in 2003 was the recipient of the Academy's John A. Universal’s Les Misérables was honored for Best Sound Mixing for a motion picture and Disney/Pixar’s team for Brave took the award for animated feature film tonight as the Cinema Audio Society handed out prizes for Sound Mixing for 2012 in six categories plus a separate pair of awards for technical achievement.
