Wherever Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor goes, a certain bearded Jedi follows. In 2019, when McGregor and his travel writer friend Charley Boorman arrived in a small South American town (McGregor thinks it was in Peru) amid a long motorcycle journey, so too did a legion of fans excited to meet Obi-Wan Kenobi.
“We were in a small town and there are these long winding steps all the way up to this famous lighthouse,” McGregor says. “We were going up and someone asked for an autograph. I was happy to do that. Then the same thing happened on another flight of stairs up. Then a bunch of people were arriving going, ‘Oh, we didn’t know where you’d be.’ Turns out (our location) was on a Star Wars social media platform or site. They were always very friendly though. It was never a chore.”
For now, Star Wars is in the rearview.

The new Apple TV+ series, Long Way Up, chronicles Ewan McGregor's and Charley Boorman's three-month trip from the bottom tip of South America to Los Angeles, through wintry mountain roads and sparse deserts to decimated jungles. That sounds like an intimidating journey on its own, but trouble began

To celebrate the release of Long Way Up, the eagerly anticipated reuniting of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman after almost 12 years, we sat down with the guys to chat about all things motorbikes.
Together again after their first two trips – Long Way Round and Long Way Down – McGregor and Boorman have mixed things up this time by deciding to do their newest trip on electric motorbikes which presented the duo with some amazing equipment but also proved to be a different challenge altogether, not least with trying to charge their new bikes in the middle of nowhere. But they told us that overall it was the right decision but did make for some heartstopping moments in the show, not least seeing McGregor having to be pulled along to make a once-a-day ferry.

The Boys in the Band
There is a party, and this party calls for games. The rules are simple: Make a phone call, get a point. Get more points if the person you call picks up. Get a bonus if you deliver your message. All would be harmless if the premise were lower-risk. Instead, the players must call the one person they believed they truly loved. Given that the friends are a group of gay men in an era that wasn’t yet willing to accept them, tensions – and stakes – run high.

Exclusive: Charley Boorman narrates Steve McQueen motorcycle doc.
TV presenter and motorcycle enthusiast Charley Boorman, son of director John Boorman, has lent his voice to new documentary about Steve McQueen.
Cardinal Releasing handles sales on Desert Racer about McQueen’s love of motorcycles, with the producers looking for final finance to complete the film.
Jon Brewer (B.B. King: The Life of Riley) directs and produces for Emperor Media from Laura Royko’s script. The feature includes interviews with Chad McQueen, Steve’s son.
The hour-long biopic documentary, currently in post-production, explores the iconic actor’s obsession for motorbikes, his relationship with stunt double Bud Ekins and the film they were in together The Great Escape.
Through their shared love of bikes, the duo created a new track-racing bike, which McQueen took to England where he met up with the Rickman brothers of Metisse motorbikes, and the ‘Desert Racer’ was born.

Ewan McGregor is planning another major global adventure which will involve boats and bikes and an expedition with the dog he adopted on the set of his 2011 film Beginners.
The Scottish actor has shot two international bike trek documentaries with pal Charley Boorman and now he's planning his most ambitious trip yet.
He explains, "I thought I'd build a boat, and then I thought I'd sail it from L.A. (Los Angeles) to the southern tip of the Americas... and ship a bike down there - maybe with my sidecar so my dog could come - and then I would ride back up. That would be cool."
McGregor insists the idea of building a boat from scratch is not a new one for him - he dreamed up the project on an island vacation many years ago.
He tells Nylon magazine, "Not having any sailing expertise or knowledge, or any carpentry skills, I became absolutely convinced that what I needed to do was build myself a wooden boat."...

He's turned 40, moved his family to Los Angeles and spends his time tinkering with motorbikes. Midlife crisis? No fear
In the corner of his regular haunt, a bustling restaurant in the posh suburb of Brentwood, Los Angeles, Ewan McGregor takes a break from his shrimp salad to consider the apocalypse.
"I'm not remotely worried," he says. "For all of the hurtling towards climate change, there's also a lot more understanding of it than there was when we were kids. They don't call environmentalists tree huggers any more, so there's hope!"
Doomsday would be an odd fixation for McGregor. After all, life is rather good. He has five movies coming down the pipe, and promising ones, too. There's Bryan Singer's sword-swinging fantasy Jack the Giant Killer and The Impossible, in which he and Naomi Watts face the 2004 tsunami. He also plays a stuffy scientist who falls for Emily Blunt in Salmon Fishing in the Yemen,...

Ewan McGregor will be celebrating on Thursday - the great Scot turns 40 years old.
Born in Crieff, Scotland, drama school drop-out McGregor has been working steadily on the stage, in Hollywood and indie arthouse flicks ever since he wowed with his break-out role as a junkie in 1996's Trainspotting.
He's proved there's no part he can't tackle, portraying everything from a glam rock star to a priest and, of course, a Jedi Knight.
To salute Ewan on his special day, WENN has opened up the archives and dug up 10 facts about his life.
- Early on in his career, McGregor shared an apartment with another aspiring actor - Jude Law.
- He met his wife, French production designer Eve Mavrakis, after he was cast in an episode of the U.K. legal drama Kavanagh QC.
- In 2001, McGregor received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland.
- McGregor was nearly a superspy - he was approached to play James Bond in the 2006 blockbuster but turned down the job, which went to Daniel Craig.
- Before playing Obi-Wan Kenobi, McGregor was already a Star Wars fan - his uncle, actor/director Denis Lawson, played an X-wing pilot in all three original Star Wars movies.
- McGregor is Hollywood's go-to guy for full-frontal nudity - he's bared all in a number of his films, including Trainspotting, Velvet Goldmine, The Pillow Book, and Young Adam.
- He and Mavrakis have three daughters, including Clara Mathilde, Esther Rose and Jamiyan, who the couple adopted from Mongolia.
- He was the best man at Dougray Scott's 2000 wedding to casting director Sarah Trevis.
- A motorcycle enthusiast since his youth, McGregor and his pal Charley Boorman hit the road for four months in 2004 to travel from London to New York. The pair embarked on another international motorcycle marathon in 2007, biking from Scotland to South Africa, and they have plans for a third adventure later this year.
- He shares his birthday with stars including Christopher Walken, AC/DC rocker Angus Young and Rhea Perlman.

Paranormal Activity 2; Easy A; Africa United; Due Date; Travellers
Oren Peli's (surprisingly un)original frightener Paranormal Activity was made for a reported $15,000 and scared hundreds of millions of dollars out of audiences who had presumably never seen The Blair Witch Project. Tod Williams's fatuous prequel, Paranormal Activity 2 (2010, Sony, 15), cost nearly 200 times as much and will surely bore the pants off even the most wide-eyed horror dilettante with its dreary, repetitive rehashing of an already derivative formula. Following an apparent burglary, a young family (including the diehard hackneyed horror triumvirate of teenage daughter, baby and dog) have their house fitted with security cameras which promptly start recording things going bump in the night. Or not.

Travellers sees four friends confronting horrors greater than those of a budget airline as they embark upon a motorcycle break in the country and things take a turn for the worse when they anger a group of Irish nomads.

The Green Hornet (12A)
(Michel Gondry, 2011, Us) Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, Tom Wilkinson. 119 mins
It's not going to give the Dark Knight a run for his money, but this unfancied vigilante movie is at least unpretentious, fun and well-lit – more like the light knight. Rogen's questionable charm and uneven writing skills just about power the shambolic "spoilt slacker turns crusader for justice" yarn (Waltz is another show-stealing baddie); Gondry provides some great action scenes (relying on Jay Chou's Kato rather than Rogen), a few of his trademark flourishes, and a very nice car …
Blue Valentine (15)
(Derek Cianfrance, 2010, Us) Ryan Gosling, Michelle Williams, Mike Vogel. 112 mins
After so many gimmicky romcoms over the years, it's refreshing to see a straightforward look at relationships. It switches between the happy beginnings and miserable ending of a damaged, hard-up couple, and leaves us to work out what went wrong in between.

Ewan McGregor is planning to take a break from his movie career to head out on another round-the-world motorbike trip. The "Trainspotting" star teamed up with his pal Charley Boorman for a marathon motorcycle trip in 2004. The pair spent four months on the road traveling from London to New York and covered a cumulative distance of 22,345 miles.
They filmed the trip for their "Long Way Round" television series, which also spawned a bestselling book of the same name. Now McGregor wants to do it all again - he's planning more adventures for summer after a family vacation with his wife, Eve Mavrakis, and their children.
He says, "I've done a lot of hard work recently and I admit that after a burst of intense creativity I've got a bit of wanderlust. I've still got the bike and it's now got a sidecar on it, so I'll take my dog Sid along with me this time.
