We got a full trailer for the new season of "Reacher" at the beginning of the month but, you know, there's really never enough "Reacher" to go around. To Reach around, if you will. That trailer opened with a glimpse at a suspensful scene in which our hero Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) stands behind a woman at an Atm who's clearly going through something traumatic. Now we've been gifted with the scene in full. It's a perfect action amuse-bouche, showcasing the exquisite harmony of elements this adaptation of Lee Child's books has achieved. It's also preceded by a front-facing thank you from Alan Ritchson for watching the clip, which is nice!
The scene that follows begins with Reacher in line for an Atm -- a likely place for him to be. He notices the woman in front of him is shaking, murmuring to herself, and punching in a large...

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 12
“Now at least you can become the man you were destined to be.”
Despite the evil travails of everyone from The Black Hood to the Gargoyle King, the most noteworthy of Riverdale‘s rogue’s gallery of Big Bads remains Hiram Lodge. So it isn’t much of a surprise that the series finally got around to giving him an origin episode, nor is it particularly shocking that said origin was a pastiche of The Godfather and Goodfellas.. Rags-to-riches tales of this sort have been done often — and better — but there are a few things happening in “Citizen Lodge” that somehow manage to make this a standout in this disjointed season.
First and foremost is the great performance by Michael Consuelos as Jaime Luna, the troubled teen whose employment by gangster Vito results in him adopting his Hiram Lodge persona…and makes...

Unlike last year's two filmmaker/film horse race between Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique and Xavier Dolan's J'ai tué ma mere, this year it was all "Villeneuve" and "Incendies". Repeating his wins in all the same categories it won at the Canadian Oscars (Genies) this week (this includes Editing, Screenplay, Best Cinematography by the excellent André Turpin, Best Actress in Lubna Azabal (who forced here co-star Melissa Desormeaux-Poulin to give her own thank you speech). These wins more than makes up for his loss last year when Villeneuve won the Best Director honor for Polytechnique, but lost in the Best Film category to J'ai tué ma mere. The predictable 13th edition also saw a Genie-Jutra winner from Barney's Version and in the Animated Film category, the Nfb (naturally) supported Theodore Ushev added a Jutra to his Genie for Lipsett Diaries. Best Film/meilleur film 10 1/2 - Pierre Gendron (Zoofilms) Les amours imaginaires - Xavier Dolan,...

The nominees for the 31st Annual Genie Awards, Canada’s answer to the Oscars, were unveiled at simultaneous press conferences in Montreal and Toronto yeseterday. After being snubbed by the major Hollywood awards, only receiving 1 nomination and win for Paul Giamatti at the Golden Globes, Barney’s Version has been highly recognized by Canadian audiences. This is no surprise as its source material is a novel from beloved Canadian treasure Mordecai Richler and the film was partially shot in Montreal. Barney’s VersionIncendies leads the pack with 11 nominations including Best Motion Picture and populating most of the acting categories including one for Paul Giamatti for a Performace by an Actor in a Leading Role and Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Dustin Hoffman. Following closely is the other Canadian darling this year, Incendies , which garnered 10 nominations such as Adapted Screenplay (Denis Villeneuve) and Performance by an Actress...

Release Date: Out Now Director: Daniel Grou Starring: Rémy Girard, Claude Legault Cinematographer: Bernard Couture Studio/Run Time: Sundance Selects (Video-on-Demand), 105 min. Half-baked Haneke The Québécois film 7 Days prods the same nerves that contemporary Gallic guignols have been working since Gaspar Noe’s Irreversible, but it should have prodded more. The film begins with an unforgivable crime—the rape and murder of a schoolgirl by a convicted sex offender. Her father, a wealthy surgeon (Claude Legault), chains the alleged killer in a secluded dungeon, savoring his captive’s (Rémy Girard) slow torture. As the film gingerly shifts the balance between good...

This afternoon, the nominees for the Jutra Award, Quebec's own Oscars, were announced. Unlike last year, there are two new things that we should expect to see. The first one being that the jury will be formed by 18 people. Secondly, all members of the jury have seen the films that are nominated. Besides, the host of evening will be Patrice L'Écuyer and the ceremony will take place at La Tohu on March 28. Also note that the Jutra Award will be broadcasted live on Radio-Canada. Anyway, the following is the list of nominees.

Your 8-year old daughter is kidnapped, raped and murdered. Her body is left out in the open, exposed to the elements to be found by whoever happens upon her. As a parent, what do you do? How do you cope? What form of justice seems fair in a world where something so terrible can occur? If these questions sound shocking and extreme, its because 7 Days deals with shocking and extreme subject matter.
Daniel Grou tackles these questions in 7 Days, or Les 7 jours du talion, his feature film directorial debut, adapted from and written by novelist Patrick Senécal. This French-Canadian production is a disturbing and poetically accomplished film of revenge and regret. 7 Days is at times terribly difficult to watch, but at other times is mesmerizing with its quiet, contemplative approach. The audience is taken inside the mind of a father who has tragically lost his 8-year old daughter in the most horrible way imaginable.

There's an epidemic going around during past couple of months. People are killing young women-in the movies. In Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones," 14-year-old Susie Salmon played by Saoirse Ronan is raped and murdered near her home. The dead girl is intent on killing the murderer, whose death would release her from the clouds and gain her entrance to heaven. In Pierre Morel's "Taken," Bryan Mills, played by Liam Neeson, suffers the murder of his daughter. His response? "I know who you are. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not lok for you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you." Martin Campbell's "Edge of Darkness" finds Thomas Craven in pursuit of the shotgun slaying of his 24-year-old daughter. Forget the law. Justice is too slow. These survivors want revenge.
