The latest act in the very public unraveling of Johnny Depp began last week in a courtroom in northern Virginia, pulling back the curtain on the secretive world of celebrity enablers and hangers-on.
Depp is suing his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for 50 million for describing herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse” in a 2018 Washington Post opinion piece. That revived allegations she made when the couple divorced in 2016 — about which they had each promised to remain silent — and in Depp’s view the public characterization could not go unchallenged.
But after Depp lost a similar case in London in 2020, his public reputation — and career — are in tatters. He has not appeared in a major studio film since “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” in 2018, although he has starred in smaller indies such as “Minamata.” Relitigating these issues, which entails resurfacing text messages in which he called Heard a “c—” and fantasized about her “rotting corpse,...

A therapist who worked with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in 2015 testified that the couple engaged in “mutual abuse,” and that Depp could be “triggered” by Heard.
Laurel Avis Anderson’s testimony was played for jurors on the third day of the 50 million defamation trial underway in Fairfax, Va. Depp has sued Heard for publishing an op-ed in 2018 in which she alluded to domestic violence claims that she first made in the context of their 2016 divorce.
Anderson testified via video deposition in February, and the video was played for the jury on Thursday morning. Anderson said she saw the couple several times between October and December 2015, and that the sessions could be stormy — with both of them threatening to walk out at times.
Anderson said Heard reported that Depp had been violent toward her. She also said both parties could initiate fights, as Heard feared abandonment from Depp. She also...

One of Johnny Depp’s childhood friends testified Wednesday that he never witnessed any physical abuse by the actor, nor did he detect any bruises or marks on Amber Heard’s face when he saw her shortly after a stormy May 21, 2016, argument at their downtown Los Angeles home.
Taking the stand in the Depp-Heard defamation trial in Fairfax, Va, Isaac Baruch offered some colorful observations and descriptions as he described living next door to Depp and his then-wife in the art deco Eastern Columbia building. The actor had been Baruch’s benefactor as he pursued his art, giving him about 100,000 to support his endeavor.
Baruch described seeing Heard on May 22 in the aftermath of an argument she’d with Depp the night before.
He said that Heard told him, “Johnny came by last night and he became violent.”
Later, he said that he questioned Heard, asking, “He hit you?”

Christi Dembrowski says ex-wife Amber Heard called Depp an ‘old, fat man’ and resented his job offer from fashion house Dior
The contours of the high-stakes legal battle between Johnny Depp and his former wife, Amber Heard, became clearer on Wednesday, as Depp’s older sister sought to refute Heard’s claims that her brother was a violent, unaccountable, childlike drug addict.
Christi Dembrowski, who is also Depp’s personal manager, said she did not share Heard’s concerns – also advanced by a doctor who was treating Depp’s addiction to pain medication – that the actor was dependent on drugs and that he despaired of ever kicking his habit.

Johnny Depp’s defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard opened Tuesday in Fairfax, Virginia with explosive allegations of “excessive” drug and alcohol use, and claims of physical and psychological abuse in the couple’s marriage.
Depp’s attorneys Benjamin Chew and co-council Camille Vasquez painted Heard as the aggressor, telling the jury that the actress and model concocted stories of abuse because Depp “wanted out” and told his wife it was time to divorce.
Depp is suing his ex-wife for 50 million claiming she libeled him in a 2018 op-ed piece in the Washington Post, costing him a lucrative role in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. Although Heard didn’t name Depp in the article, she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”

Apparently, Johnny Depp tried to get ex-wife Amber Heard fired from her role as Mera in Aquaman.
The legal battle between the former married couple continues to rage on, though the odds are not in Depp’s favor following the UK libel case that recently went against him. The Pirates of the Caribbean star had attempted to sue British newspaper The Sun for labelling him a “wife beater” in response to Heard’s domestic abuse allegations, but the judge ultimately declared their statement to be “substantially true.”
The Hollywood Reporter has now released an in-depth article which reveals some new details from the case, including a text sent by Depp to producer Christi Dembrowski, who had connections at Warner Bros. “I want her replaced on the WB film,” the message reads. THR says that in the trial, the actor admitted that the film in question was the DC blockbuster Aquaman,...

Now that he and Marvel's "Ant-Man" film have gone their separate ways, many fans of beloved British filmmaker Edgar Wright have already begun wondering what he will tackle next.
One possibility that has come up today is a project he was linked to back in 2012 - Disney's cinematic reboot of the "Night Stalker" franchise.

Exclusive: Warner Bros is in early talks with Garth Davis to make his narrative feature directing debut on Shantaram, the adaptation of the Gregory David Roberts novel that has Joel Edgerton attached to star and Inifinitum Nihil partners Johnny Depp and Christi Dembrowski producing with Gk Films’ Graham King. Davis is an Australian helmer who was Emmy nominated for Top Of The Lake, five episodes of which he directed with Jane Campion. The mini premiered at Sundance. This is quite an ambitious move, taking on Shantaram so early in his run as a filmmaker. It’s pretty sprawling stuff. The film has been with Warner Bros since the studio paid $2 million for screen rights in 2004, back when Depp wanted to star, only to see the film stall and fall apart because of the writers strike. Depp recently jump-started the process as producer by personally courting Edgerton. The lead character starts...

“The Great Gatsby” star Joel Edgerton is in talks to replace Johnny Depp in Warner Bros.’ adaptation of Gregory David Roberts’ novel “Shantaram,” an individual familiar with the long-gestating project has told TheWrap. Depp remains onboard to produce the movie along with Christi Dembrowski through their Infinitum Nihil banner, along with Graham King of Gk Films. Warner Bros. paid a steep price of $2 million to acquire rights to “Shantaram” in 2004, though the project languished in the wake of the Writers Strike. Following a couple of stalled attempts to get this movie up and running after the studio paid $2 million for the rights in 2004, Depp himself jump started the process by personally courting Edgerton to play a role Depp once intended to play before the film was derailed by the Writer’s Strike.
