John Travolta is in talks to star in the Chuck Russell-directed indie action-thriller "I Am Wrath" for Patriot Pictures. Michael Mendelsohn, Nick Vallelonga and Richard Salvatore are producing and filming begins next month in Ohio.
Travolta will play a man out for vigilante justice after a group of corrupt cops are unable to catch his wife’s killer. Paul Sloan penned the script based on a story by Yvan Gauthier, and the hope is this will be to Travolta what "Taken" was to Liam Neeson. [Source: The Wrap]

Adding to her to-do list, Halle Berry has sold an action-comedy pitch to Universal Pictures, after what Deadline says was some competitive bidding - i.e., other studios wanted the project too. Titled "Mother," plot details are currently underwraps, but Berry will star in it. Pablo Fenjves, primarily a TV writer, has been hired to pen screenplay. Berry and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas will produce through their 606 Films Production banner, which they launched last year to produce "socially conscious" work, in the spirit of the company's name (after the anti-paparazzi bill that Berry pushed, which California Gov. Jerry Brown signed...

Man On A Ledge
Stars: Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Genesis Rodriguez, Kyra Sedgwick, Anthony Mackie, Edward Burns | Written by Pablo F. Fenjves | Directed by Asger Leth
Man on a Ledge’s director, Asger Leth, has few other credits to his name; the only other of note being his assistant director and co-writing role onThe Five Obstructions, Lars von Trier’s experimental documentary in which he challenged the filmmaker Jørgen Leth (Asger’s father) to remake his 1967 film, The Perfect Human in five different ways. What then, could we expect from Man on a Ledge? Surprisingly, it’s fairly slick and mainstream American thriller.
The plot is relatively simple – a man stands on a ledge of a building in New York, but rather than being suicidal, he is distracting attention from the diamond heist his co-conspirators are undertaking in the opposite building. Of course, there’s a...

After seeing Man on a Ledge I actually felt like jumping off of a building. The film stars Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Genesis Rodriguez, Anthony Mackie, Edward Burns, Ed Harris, and Kyra Sedgwick. Part heist movie, part mystery, with way too much going on, this movie will leave you unimpressed with everyone involved.
First-time director Asger Leth helmed the thriller based on a dreadful script by Pablo F. Fenjves. The story follows ex-cop Nick Cassidy (Worthington), who is framed for stealing David Englander's (Harris) diamond - a crime he supposedly did not commit. Cassidy is sentenced to jail and forced to escape. To prove his innocence, he steps out onto a Manhattan hotel ledge and threatens to jump to his death in order to gain attention for his case. While all eyes are on the man on a ledge, his brother and his girlfriend are hard at work...

Chicago – New York City. Mid-day. A man steps outside the window on the edge of the Roosevelt Hotel. Is he jumping? That’s the question that street level onlookers and moviegoers want answered from Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell and Ed Harris in “Man on a Ledge”
Rating: 3.0/5.0
This trifle of an action film does have some mojo going for it. It’s played a bit tongue-in-cheek, with the wry Banks filling the role as the hard-drinking New York Police suicide negotiator. The tension in this film is wholly exaggerated, to a point where it teeters on the brink of parody. All the ensemble cast has their game faces on, however, as the somewhat overly complex plot unravels.
Sam Worthington is Nick Cassidy, introduced as a cop-turned-thief doing hard time at Sing-Sing. His brother Joey (Jamie Bell) is embarrassed that Nick has sullied the family name, but does manage...

HollywoodNews.com: This week’s main offering at the movies is “Man on a Ledge”–described as “ludicrous” by some critics and certainly not an Oscar nominee. (It was a lowly 20% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is like an F.) It’s January, of course, and if you couldn’t release a movie by December 31st, you know what January means. But “Man on a Ledge” has another reason of interest. Its screenwriter is Pablo Fenjves. Don’t recognize his name? He ghost wrote O.J. Simpson’s infamous confessional book, “If I Did It,” which outlined how O.J. murdered in cold blood his ex wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman.
The ironic part of that is that Fenjves, creepily, was a witness in the Simpson murder trial. He was the neighbor who testified he’d heard a dog’s plaintive wail near Nicole Brown’s house in Brentwood.

In the opening minutes of Asger Leth’s Man on a Ledge, Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington) checks into the Roosevelt Hotel, climbs out his window, and stands on the ledge outside. A few pedestrians spot him and soon the TV cameras arrive, but all anyone knows at first is there is a man on a ledge.
It’s more complex than that, but it’s a simple concept for a movie. One that immediately brings to mind other confined thrillers like Phone Booth, Panic Room, or recently, the under-appreciated Buried. The key is to allow the audience to put themselves in the fixed character’s shoes, in this case Nick’s at the edge of a 200-foot drop, while keeping the escalating environment around him anything but static. But Leth and writer Pablo Fenjves miss the mark on both sides of the window, and the film feels as flat and generic as the title.

I laughed when a friend recently asked me, "What's that movie where the guy is on the ledge?" I looked at him a bit cross-eyed and said, "You mean Man on a Ledge?" Fortunately, had he wanted to see the film, I don't think he would have had a problem buying tickets for the right one, but I wouldn't ever suggest he pay full price for it. After all, just watch the trailer, all that's missing are a few stunts, a cliched rooftop moment and the end credits. Is any of that really worth the price of admission? To answer my own question, no, it's not.
In case you were even more confused than my friend, Man on a Ledge is about a man on a ledge. That man is Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington), an ex-cop and now escaped fugitive. What did Nick do that landed him in prison? Well,...

Man On A Ledge is a film that will be revered in Screenwriting I classes all across this great nation. Like a beacon of hope, this “action thriller” will embolden film students to shrug off their professor’s instance on featuring characters instead of caricatures, avoiding deliberately on the nose dialogue and setting up credible conflicts with a true sense of risk involved. This film goes to great lengths to show that none of these issues seem to get in the way of turning your amateur script into a big-budget Hollywood flick. Congratulations on the ignominy, screenwriter Pablo F. Fenjves!
The film is less of a standalone piece and more of a composite of other, far better genre films, all melded together like money-making stew. A dash of The Fugitive, a heaping helping of Inside Job and just the right amount Dog Day Afternoon (with requisite “Attica!!” homage), then add...

If your impressions about the new action thriller "Man on a Ledge" are based on the film's very-literal title, you're very likely correct in assuming to know a decent amount about the film before entering the theater. "Ledge" is the story of ex-cop and fugitive Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington), whose seemingly obvious suicidal plan to jump off a building is slowly revealed to be something much more.
Thus far, the critical reception for the film is very different from initial audience reactions. The Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer has "Ledge" at a 22 percent fresh rating from critics, versus a 65 percent fresh audience rating.

Screenwriter Pablo F. Fenjves deserves a bit of credit for the unique, albeit gimmicky, story found within Man on a Ledge. The idea of focusing a thriller around a man threatening to jump to his death in an effort to distract police while a mysterious crime is being perpetrated is pretty fresh. In this film we meet Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington), a prisoner who is allowed to leave the penitentiary for one day to attend his father’s funeral. But once at the ceremony, a fight between Nick and his brother Joey (Jamie Bell) breaks out, giving Nick the opportunity to outsmart two officers and escape custody. Once free, he heads to the Roosevelt Hotel and climbs out onto a ledge, threatening to jump unless the police send Lydia Mercer (a feisty detective whose claim to fame is failing to save...

The opening of Man on a Ledge today marks the end of an odd 10-year journey for the movie's writer Pablo Fenjves. Most edgy thrillers are written by hotshot 20- or 30-somethings, but Fenjves is just starting to hit his stride in Hollywood as a spry 58-year old scribe. His previous claim to fame was being known for his involvement as a key witness in the Oj Simpson murder trial. "In a weird way, I'm peaking," Fenjves said at the movie's premiere afterparty Monday night, as a security guard kept guests from getting too close to

Though Man on a Ledge is certainly a shoo-in for the most unimaginatively to-the-point film title of 2012, this feature debut of Asger Leth invites certain expectations after his 2006 documentary Ghosts of Cité Soleil proved to be an unexpected and hugely affecting treat. Disappointing it is, then, that this slick thriller is also an awkward, oddly lifeless one, directed with a surprising anonymity, which gives it the generic, homogenised feel of a bland yet overproduced TV show you might see on a network like Fox.
The film opens with a man, escaped convict Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington), climbing out onto the ledge of his hotel room, apparently intent to jump if the police do not bring troubled negotiator Lydia Mercer (Elizabeth Banks) to the scene immediately. U.S.A, 2012
It feels safe to assume that ensemble pieces are rarely an easy proposition. The matter of juggling good writing and proper screen time between a great number of solid characters requires some highly regarded skill, both from the standpoints of a director and a screenwriter. Casting also comes into play in a significant way. When faced with a pool of especially gifted thespians, the task can prove to be all the easier, for their individual talents can lift the project up, or it can all backfire, as is the case whenever great actors are criminally under-used. Relative newcomer Asger Leth (his only other feature being a 2006 documentary, Chosts of Cité Soleil) accepts the challenge with a New York shot heist film, Man on a Ledge.

Chicago – Sam Worthington is instantly recognizable for his break out role in “Avatar,” playing the Marine turned blue citizen of Na’vi. After a trio of high-profile blockbuster movies in 2009 (Terminator Salvation and Avatar) and 2010 (Clash of the Titans), 2011 was something of a slow year for Australian actor Sam Worthington, with neither The Debt nor The Texas Killing Fields drawing much attention (or attendance). Fenjves, Man on a Ledge sees Worthington playing a wrongly-accused disgraced cop who escapes from prison to steal the $30 million diamond he was originally convicted of stealing. What makes this different than your average run-of-the-mill heist movie? Worthington's character co-ordinates the heist while pretending that he...
