Aang is told he needs to master the Avatar State but admits he has no idea how he can be expected to save the world if he doesn’t know what he’s doing in the latest trailer for Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. The minute-and-a-half final trailer was released just days ahead of the series’ premiere on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
The eight-episode first season stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sooka, Dallas Liu as Crown Prince Zuko, Ken Leung as Commander Zhao, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh, and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai.
“Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world.

They include hourlong Snap at Fox, from Whiskey Cavalier creator David Hemingson; Love And… at NBC, from Greek creator Sean Smith; and The Bunker at NBC, from graphic novelist and writer Joshua Hale Fialkov; as well as single-camera half-hours The Park at NBC, from A. P. Bio creator Mike O’Brien & Shelly Gossman; and Post Office, also at NBC, from writer Amy Hubbs.
All five projects hail from Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios. They stem from the new first-look deal BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated director Robinson inked at the studio in July. She is executive producing and attached to direct all five, with CannyLads Head of Development Kelly Pancho co-executive producing.
Snap, which has a script commitment plus penalty, is co-production between between Universal TV and Fox Entertainment.

David Goodman has been convincingly re-elected to a two-year term as president of the Writers Guild of America West, beating Phyllis Nagy in a bitter contest that became a referendum on the guild’s ongoing battle with talent agents.
Goodman received 4,395 votes to Nagy’s 1,282 in an election that yielded record turnout among the WGA West’s nearly 10,000 members — more than half of eligible voters cast ballots. Goodman’s allies also won all 10 other seats that were up for election.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Nicholas Kazan has attacked leaders of the Writers Guild of America for “vitriol” in their hardline stance on Hollywood agents.
“This Guild is in crisis,” he said in an email sent Monday to members. “It’s not the crisis you think…it’s not whether or how to negotiate with the Ata or the individual talent agencies. The crisis is internal. The agency campaign has divided membership in a dangerous and unprecedented way, turning writer against writer, friend against friend…in an atmosphere dominated by distrust and vitriol.”
Kazan, who is the father of actress and writer Zoe Kazan and the son of Oscar-winning director Elia Kazan, is part of the WGA Forward Together slate. His group is contending that the WGA needs to get back to the bargaining table after two months of staying away from bargaining. WGA West president David Goodman declared on June 20 that the...

The election for the Writers Guild of America West remains heated with dissidents attacking the guild’s hardline stance on Hollywood agents.
The latest salvo came Sunday from “Wonder Woman” writer Jason Fuchs, who’s part of the WGA Forward Together slate. His group is contending that the WGA needs to get back to the bargaining table after two months of staying away from bargaining. Fuchs, who is seeking a seat on the WGA West board, hasa story credit on “Wonder Woman,” a shared screenplay credit for “Ice Age: Continental Drift” and is a co-producer for “It: Chapter 2.”
“The current approach of our WGA-w leadership is a failing strategy,” Fuchs said. “Negotiating with small and mid-size agencies — most of which don’t even package — does nothing to put pressure on the Big 4, and this strategy is exactly the reason for this long and pointless stalemate. It does nothing to raise writers’ incomes,...

A fourth candidate for the Writers Guild of America West’s board has dropped out of the race in order to support the guild’s hardline stance on Hollywood agents.
Joshua Hale Fialkov made the announcement Friday, three days after Rob Forman, Ed Herro and Chris Roessner all announced they had withdrawn from the contest for the same reason. The four dropouts mean that there are now 17 candidates for eight open board seats in a contest that’s viewed as a referendum on the WGA’s hard-nosed approach. Election results will be announced on Sept. 16.
Craig Mazin dropped out of the election last week as a vice presidential candidate due to concerns over a family member’s health. Mazin was a running mate with Phyllis Nagy, who is challenging WGA West president David Goodman on a platform that the WGA needs to get back to the bargaining table after six weeks of staying away.

Another board candidate has dropped out of the WGA West election and thrown his support to incumbent president David A. Goodman and his running mates. Joshua Hale Fialkov is the fourth board candidate to drop out – leaving 17 candidates vying for eight board seats.
Fialkov, who was selected to run by the guild’s nominating committee, was running independently of either of the two slates headed by Goodman and opposition presidential candidate Phyllis Nagy.
Indie board candidates Rob Forman, Ed Herro and Chris Roessner had previously dropped out of the running, as had vice presidential candidate Craig Mazin, Nagy’s running mate.
Here is Fialkov’s full statement issued Friday:
Like many of my fellow nominees, I’ve made the immensely difficult decision to step away from the election. As has been said more elegantly by them, this election has become about picking sides, and either you’re with our current...

The final list of candidates in the WGA West’s upcoming election has been unveiled, giving members a clear choice between supporters and opponents of the guild’s current course in its 102-day standoff with Hollywood’s talent agencies. New board candidates include high-profile names like Power‘s Courtney Kemp, the Arrowverse’s Marc Guggenheim, The Affair‘s Sarah Treem and Wonder Woman’s Jason Fuchs. Ballots won’t be counted until September 16.
As previously reported, incumbent president David A. Goodman, one of the leaders of the guild’s attempts to realign the agency business, will face two challengers opposed to the guild’s hardline strategy: Phyllis Nagy and William Schmidt.
Nagy, who’s been one of the most outspoken members opposed to the direction the guild has taken, is teamed with Craig Mazin, who’s running for vice president, and Nick Jones, Jr., who’s running for secretary-treasurer.

The WGA West has unveiled the slate of candidates for officer posts and board seats in the election that reflects the divisions among members over the guild’s handling of the campaign to reform its rules governing talent agents.
Scribes Phyllis Nagy (“Carol”) and William Schmidt (“Yellowstone”) are set to challenge David Goodman for the president’s post. Nagy and Schmidt have been vocal in her opposition to the guild’s reform campaign that led to more than 7,000 WGA members firing their agents in April.
The guild has been in a standoff with the largest talent agencies since then, although two boutique operations have signed on to the WGA’s new terms. Goodman, elected in 2017, has been a key face of the agency effort along with WGA West executive director David Young.
The higher volume of candidates for board seats this time around surely is a byproduct of the agency discord.

David A. Goodman is running unopposed for a second two-year term as president of the Writers Guild of America West.
Goodman, who has become the public voice of the guild during its bitter standoff with Hollywood agents, also ran unopposed in 2017 when he succeeded Howard Rodman in the post.
The WGA West announced Friday that its negotiating committee had sought a second unidentified candidate for the presidency but that person opted not to run. Goodman could still face opposition if another candidate opts to run by petition, which would require submission of 25 member signatures by July 23.
Goodman served as executive producer of Seth MacFarlane’s “Family Guy” between 2005 and 2012. He broke into the business in 1986 as a story editor on “The Golden Girls” and has writing and producing credits on “Enterprise,” “American Dad,” “Allen Gregory,” “Futurama,” “Babes,” and “Stark Raving Mad.”
The WGA standoff with agents appears to have no end in sight.

I recently had a chance to speak to Joshua Fialkov (Last of the Greats, The Bunker) about his newest project, Pacific Rim: Tales From The Drift. Join us as we talk about this book of giant robots and monsters with a very intimate tale of two people at its core.
Matt Mueller: To start off, what drew you to create something in this universe? Were you a big fan of the film?
Josh Fialkov: I am. It has been about 6 months since I’ve taken on any work for hire, so I haven’t been working for anyone else, I’ve got all my creator-owned books that I am doing all over the place, and they keep me super busy. I made an active decision that I’ve gotten to play with every toy I wanted to, I’m good, now I want to play with my toys,...

One can use a lot of adjectives to describe the sci-fi comic The Bunker — thrilling, mysterious, innovative, and clever all spring to mind — but you certainly can’t call it optimistic. The sleeper-hit indie series by longtime writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and artist Joe Infurnari has about as low an estimation of human nature as anything on the comics market these days, which is one of the many reasons it’s worth picking up. It follows a group of present-day teenage friends who stumble upon the titular bunker, a strange structure in the woods that appears to contain letters written to them by their future selves — selves who have made devastating compromises and sacrificed much of what makes them worthwhile members of society. But not all is as it seems. There is indeed time travel, though its nature and scope remains elusive. It appears that each friend is in some...

The Life After #2 (Oni): The first issue of Josh Fialkov and Gabo’s The Life After was one of the best first issues I’d read in a while—a twist on purgatory guest-starring Ernest Hemingway and some mysterious figures. But this one? Whole different ballgame. Hemingway’s still around for comic relief, but there are also tentacle monsters and a horrifying dreamscape full of teeth and blood and misery. People are jumping off bridges for eternity, and there is a not-so-subtle indication that “God” is a giant pile of mouthy flesh. In short, this is one weird book, and that makes it a must-read. I honestly can’t wait to find out what happens next, as cliché as that phrase is. I hope it involves more monsters and Hemingway with a shotgun, because what else do you really need in life? 9/10

The Devilers just kind of throws you into the middle of a story. Normally, a first issue sets some context for you to work with, but the story just sort of explodes around you here and you have to piece together what’s going on. The issue has a sort of interesting premise, but everything else that’s going on is pretty uninteresting.
A man named Father Malcolm is reviewing some presumed examples of demonic possession to a skeptic named Mr. Lieb. Mr. Lieb doesn’t buy any of this, including Father Malcom’s own experience with demons. TV footage shows the Vatican in flames. Suddenly a Cardinal named David Michael Reed bursts through the door and tells Michael that “they” have broken through. With some bear-like entity named Rex, they are teleported to the...

In what appears to be yet another move in the Fox lockout, Marvel are cancelling the (new) Ultimate Fantastic Four after just six issues. The book's writer Joshua Hale Fialkov took to Twitter to announce that the book would end, saying the following, "Sad to say that Uff is finished with issue 6 and due to my illness last month, my last issue is 5. Heartbroken but extremely grateful." Marvel have since confirmed Fialkov's statement, increasing suspicions that Marvel intend to decrease the popularity of their comic book properties owned by 20th Century Fox after reports last month claimed that publishers were restricting Fantastic Four comics. What do you think? Is Marvel deliberately trying to force Fox's hand into releasing the team's film rights? Or are the team just not pulling in enough money? Sign off your thoughts below! As the new and improved Future Foundation, they are all that stands between us and cosmic level threats that would see the entire universe extinguished.
But world ending threats are not their only problem! And old foe has returned…and he’s joining their team?! Doctor Doom has resurfaced, and he is their only hope to stop the oncoming destruction!
Though they survived the cataclysm, the Earth lay in ruins. And though Galactus and his Gah Lak Tus swarm was defeated – the Ultimate Universe is breaking apart, and fast. The world’s greatest minds – Sue Storm, Tony Stark, Sam Wilson and Machine Man must band together to solve problems too big to tackle alone.

Week after week, the shelves of local comic book stores nationwide are packed to brim with shiny new comics. Sure you’re a smart cookie and probably have tonnes of grabs already but many books do go unnoticed and its my job to make sure you are getting your moneys worth. I could ramble on for a bit but I sincerely doubt you’re still reading this paragraph and have long since scrolled down to the good bits– So without further to do, enjoy and note this is preference, what’s exciting to me may not be exciting to you and hey friend, I’m Ok with that:

Revealed earlier today via the Associated Press, Marvel has announced that they will be adding three new titles to their Ultimate universe – All-New Ultimates, Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, and Ultimate Ff. Intended to give a much needed boost to the publisher’s 14-year old Ultimate line, the titles are part of Marvel’s new Ultimate Marvel Now! initiative which will begin to roll out in April just as the events of Marvel’s Cataclysm come to a close.
Brian Michael Bendis has been quoted as saying that the events at the end of Cataclysm are “so huge that it changes the entire landscape. It creates a place that demands a fresh start from everyone who surveys it.”
Bendis will remain with the Ultimates line by writing Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man while being joined by artist David Marquez, both of whom were the creative team for the recent Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man series.

This is the final issue in the Galactus mini-series, Hunger, where Marvel 616 Galactus enters the Ultimates Universe after the crazy ending of Age of Ultron, and merges with Ultimate Gah-Lak-Tus to create a super-powerful hybrid Galactus – and only Rick Jones and the Silver Surfer can stop him!
On the face of it I thought this series was going to be a lot more fun than it turned out to be. A Galactus mini-series, brilliant! But writer Joshua Hale Fialkov hasn’t done anything different with the character, besides merge the two versions of Galactus into one, which didn’t turn out to be very exciting after all. Instead this is your standard Galactus story – he shows up, tries to eat a planet, heroes fight to stop him.
Rather than focus on Galactus, this series has really been about Rick Jones – whiny, teenage Rick Jones aka Ultimate Captain Marvel. His character is pretty dislikeable,...

Spinning out of the aftermath of Age of Ultron, Galactus has crossed into the Ultimates Universe – and he’s hungry!
I was looking forward to this comic as it’s been a while since I read a Galactus-centred book, so it’s disappointing that even in his own series, he barely shows up. Instead, the bulk of the comic features Rick Jones, a herald of the Watchers (kind of like the Ultimates version of the Silver Surfer), as he tries to get a burger then gets teleported out into space to witness a battle between the Chitauri and the Kree.
If you’re not a fan of Rick Jones (which is almost everyone), you’re unlikely to be swayed by the annoying chatterbox who blathers his way through this mediocre comic, complaining like a twenty-something Bart Simpson to the stoic personality-vacuum of the Watcher. The entire time I was reading...

Age of Ultron #10
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artists: Alex Maleev, Bryan Hitch, Butch Guice, Brandon Peterson (cover), Carlos Pacheco, David Marquez, Joe Quesada
Colorists: Paul Mounts, Richard Isanove
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Because of the events and format of this book, it is extremely hard to write about. The last issue and ending of Age of Ultron #10 will be debated about for years to come by Marvel fans. However, I actually enjoyed this issue which finally had a fight with Ultron, some great characterization of Hank Pym, and events that will affect all the Marvel books across the board. There are some weak points, like Alex Maleev’s art clashing with the other pencilers’ and the Angela reveal being a little underwhelming, but I think that Bendis stuck the landing and wrapped up all the main plot points of Age of Ultron while leaving room for developments in future books.

Unveiled in the August solicitations for comic book releases, Marvel has revealed that a new 4-issue mini series called “Hunger” is on its way from writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and artist Leonard Kirk. The upcoming mini was previously solicited back in July under the name “Age of Ultron” #10Uc before receiving a name change in the latest round of solicitations.
The teaser that first arrived for the series back in April presents a backdrop of outer space with the words “Hunger” overlaid in purple font. Given these combined elements, it’s very likely that we may be getting a tie-in featuring the iconic Marvel villain Galactus.

We live in a media world that has been oversaturated with vampires; particularly in recent years, as the young adult fiction market seems to have blossomed into an excuse for girls to be whisked away by creatures of the night. It’s ruined the entire concept of vampirism, really; with very few exceptions in cinema or literature.
Thank the gods we have comics to remind us that even when it comes to a monster as overused as the vampire, there are still stories to be told, if done well. I give you three examples from this week’s hefty load of quality material.
I, Vampire #19
Story: Joshua Hale Fialkov
Art: Fernando Blanco & Andrea Sorrentino
Why It Works: Narrative intelligence. The problem with a lot of vampire stories is that they focus entirely on the state of vampirism without venturing outside of it to bring in antagonists or storylines that might feature well otherwise.

Unlike the recent professional and creative differences which led to Andy Diggle and Josh Fialkov walking away from DC Comics, Tony S. Daniel will remain at the publisher but Not on Action Comics. As you can see from the following post on his Facebook page, he has confirmed that while he will indeed take over scripting duties to finish of the arc, he will Not remain on the series after that time. He claims this was always the plan, this goes against a lot of reports we heard in the build-up to the highly publicised run. However, it's interesting to wonder what exactly the "massive project" he will be working on for DC is. Check out his comments below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts on them in the usual place! Will you still buy the series? Yes, many have heard, Andy Diggle left Action Comics after...

In yet another shocking real-life twist, it has today been confirmed that writer Josh Fialkov and DC Comics have parted ways. Below is a statement from his blog, further elaborating on why he will no longer pen Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns after this June's creative team shake-up's. It has since been confirmed that Pinocchio Vampire Slayer will co-plot Green Lantern Corps with Robert Venditti (The Surrogates), while new Swamp Thing scribe Charles Soule will take over Red Lanterns. Just a quick note to confirm what everyone knows, I am no longer the writer of Glc and Red Lanterns for DC Comics. There were editorial decisions about the direction of the book that conflicted with the story I was hired to tell, and I felt that it was better to let DC tell their story the way they want. I’m grateful for the opportunity and I’ll miss...

Shocking rumors out of DC Comics quickly became fact when Joshua Hale Fialkov abruptly left both of the Green Lantern books that he was to begin writing shortly. Fans may remember that Fialkov had just been announced as the new writer for “Green Lantern Corps” and “Red Lanterns”, just two of the entire line of Green Lantern books that had recently received new creative teams.
The company has already put out a statement announcing the replacement writers for both books. According to the release, Van Jensen will be taking over “Green Lantern Corps” with co-plotting assistance from “Green Lantern” writer Robert Venditti while “Red Lanterns” will now be written by Charles Soule, the man tapped to replace Scott Snyder on “Swamp Thing”.
According to Bleeding Cool, Fialkov has chosen to walk off of his yet-to-be-released books due to issues with the editorial department. Such issues have been popping up more and more frequently at DC,...

"Avengers Disassembled" was a popular 2004 Avengers story arc from Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch. The story arc unfolded to reveal various Avengers members under physical and mental attacks that ultimately proved to be the machinations of an insane Scarlet Witch. At the conclusion, and a few deaths later, the team 'disassembles'. The Ultimate Universe have tackled some classic 616 storylines before but there's always new twist and turns introduced and expect the same to hold true in "Ultimates Disassembled'. The preview art (see below) alone indicates that this new take will most likely only share a link to the original thematically. Joshua Hale Fialkov on the new series: "Our first story arc is called "Ultimates Disassembled." By the end of this arc, we will have an entirely new set of Ultimates. Steve Niles, Matt Pizzolo, and Brett Gurewitz are getting into the comic book publishing game with the new comic book company, Black Mask Studios.
