"Where did the money come from?" Another official trailer has arrived for the Hong Kong film called The Goldfinger, which is exactly what is listed (in English) in the title card of this trailer. The film is also going under the title Once Upon a Time in Hong-Kong, written and directed by the filmmaker Felix Chong. Set in the 1980s, the film is based on the story of Carrian Group, a Hong Kong corporation which rose rapidly before collapsing shortly afterwards due to a corruption scandal. Acclaimed actors Tony Leung & Andy Lau reunite after the seminal Infernal Affairs years ago. When a stock market crash causes the sudden collapse of a multi-billion-dollar company, an Icac investigator (Lau) uncovers a criminal conspiracy involving the company’s founder (Leung) and becomes entangled in a long-running investigation. The film's cast also includes Simon Yam, Charlene Choi, Tai-Bo, Alex Fong, Philip Keung, Kar Lok Chin,...

It’s been a long wait for The Goldfinger, which reunites Infernal Affairs stars Tony Leung and Andy Lau with writer-director Felix Chong: production began in February of 2021, our first look arrived spring 2022, and for some time it was all quiet on the eastern front. But a trailer this summer confirmed it’ll hit Hong Kong on December 30, and with only a month to go there’s a new, English-subbed preview that suggests the film will, at least for extravagance, have been worth the wait.
The thriller also stars Simon Yam, Philip Keung, Alex Fong Chung-sun, Charlene Choi, Chin Ka-lok, and Carlos Chan, and is inspired by the story of the Hong Kong conglomerate Carrian Group, which was embroiled in a scandal.
Set in the 1980s, the film depicts cut-throat machinations between Hong Kong’s jostling business elites amidst the backdrop of the tail end of British colonial rule.

Tony Leung and Andy Lau reunite in The Goldfinger, after many years apart. Here’s the trailer for the film, that arrives in the UK in December.
2002’s Infernal Affairs is one of the most iconic Hong Kong films of the early 2000s. The story of a cop who infiltrates the Triads and another officer who is secretly a spy for the same group was so popular that Martin Scorsese remade it in 2006 as The Departed. It also was followed by a couple of sequels, none of which were remade by Martin Scorsese.
Stars Tony Leung, Andy Lau and writer Felix Chong have reunited over 20 years later to make The Goldfinger, that Cine Asia has picked up for distribution in the UK.
The synopsis for The Goldfingerreads as follows:

For her debut on the director chair, popular and beloved Hong Kong comedian actress Sandra Ng has found a cunning way to play around a classic local comedy topic without alienating Mainland investors and unleashing the censors. Produced by her partner in life, Peter Chan (who seems to have a talent for promoting successful debuts), “Goldbuster” was released in China in December 2017, as a pre-festive treat.

A little group of tenants still lives there (without paying rent) as they have a variety of good personal reasons to stay; one widowed acupuncturist (Zhang Yi) and his little son are kept there by the painful memories of the late wife,...

The Hong Kong action movie has a distinctive love of guns since the evolution of the genre brought about by the “Heroic Bloodshed” genre from the mid to late 1980’s. Bullets would be fired in slow motion, with two handed gunplay exhibiting an almost fetishistic coolness by the leads as the screen would turn crimson. “Double Tap” would be the ultimate extension of this with its central characters obsessing over the speed and accuracy of their weaponry. The first of a loose trilogy featuring Alex Fong’s policeman Miu Chi-shun, it is the action movie as psychodrama.
Rick (Leslie Cheung) is a gun expert who spends his life modifying them to achieve a faster draw along with accuracy. Considered one of the best, he had recently retired from competition until policeman Miu Chi-Shun (Alex Fong) tempts him back. Before a winner can be declared, one of Miu...

The 1990’s found Hong Kong cinema exploding into the minds and hearts of cinema lovers across the world. “Heroic Bloodshed” had become a genre in itself, The “Girls with Guns” wave lead by Michelle Yeoh was proving popular and category III with an increase in sexually explicit content was also finding a profitable market. So naturally, in the commercial mindset of the industry, someone was meant to combine the three. That man was Godfrey Ho and the film was “Lethal Panther”

Alan Mak is a Hong Kong helmer whose legacy exceeds the boundaries of national cinema. The reason is quite simple and part of common knowledge: “Infernal Affairs” trilogy that has spread the influence of the contemporary Hong Kong genre cinema to the whole world. Mak was not the only person responsible for it since he collaborated with Felix Chong, with whom he also did another trilogy, “Overheard”. On his own, Mak has envisioned yet another crime thriller trilogy named Integrity, which is tonally different from his previous work. After a smart and out of the box theatrical release last year for the Chinese New Year (the slot is usually reserved for featherweight comedies and dramas) that resulted in decent earnings on the box office, “Integrity” is now available on video.

Legal thrillers are rarely seen in the Hong Kong cinema market and director Wong Kwok Fai has filled this gap with “The Attorney”, an intense character study that juxtaposes a veteran disenchanted lawyer played by Alex Fong, to an idealistic young lawyer (Carlos Chan) on the background of a political conspiracy, highlighting the limits of the judicial system when dealing with the power of money.
Veteran award winner actress Nina Paw, Liu Kai Chi and Patrick Tam are among the excellent cast.
Synopsis:
A jaded hot-shot attorney reluctantly takes a case of a young man being accused of murdering the daughter of the biggest tycoon in Hong Kong. Little does he know, he’s about to be swept up in a political conspiracy.

Five grandmasters hunted by a serial killer. This actually looks way better than it sounds, so give it a look. Well Go USA has released a trailer for Kung Fu Killer, a new film starring martial arts master Donnie Yen killer and a kung fu expert, who convinces the police to recruit him to track down a serial killer in return for his freedom. Sounds like the perfect kind of plot for a cheesy martial arts movie, but it seems to be a few notches above that. Charlie Yeung, Baoqiang Wang, Bing Bai, Deep Ng and Alex Fong also star in this martial arts thriller from Hong Kong. The big skeleton set piece looks cool, and all the action gets awesome in the second half of this trailer, so don't stop watching too early. I really want to see this! Enjoy. Here's the official Us release trailer for Teddy Chen's Kung Fu Killer,...

Distribution Workshop just dropped a cache of marketing materials for Insanity, the Derek Yee-produced psychological thriller written and directed by David Lee Kuan Yew. We first reported on the project when it was announced back in October 2013. Lee apparently spent five years developing the script to meet his producer's expectations, which pits Huang Xiaoming's hotshot psychiatrist against Lau Ching Wan's intelligent psychopath. Nina Paw, Alex Fong, Michelle Ye and Michelle Wai also star and the film is slated for an April 2015 domestic release, which places it as a likely target to premiere at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in March. Below you can find the film's poster, together with a selection of stills portraying the principals - Paw in particular - embodying the...

You may remember us bringing you news of The Extreme Fox way back in November of last year. It won't suit everybody, that's for sure, but this looks like a joyous throwback to yesteryear. It’s all looking rather good fun, in a very old school kind of way, and seems to owe more than a nod of “inspiration” to - in both look and storyline - Ching Siu-tung’s 80s classic ‘A Chinese Ghost Story.’ Based on a story in the famous Liaozhai Zhiyi (a.k.a. Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio) by Pu Songling, 2014 fantasy romantic comedy The Extreme Fox is directed by Qian Sheng Wei (Jiang Shi Fu Huo) and stars Alex Fong (Delete My Love) as a Ming dynasty scholar who has a fateful encounter with Chrissie Chau's (Mr. & Mrs. Player) beautiful fox demon. The Extreme Fox is available to buy on English subtitled...

Felix Chong and Alan Mak are getting ready to unleash the third in their Overheard series of audio surveillance thrillers, and have just released these images of their rogues gallery. The previous films did not follow the same characters, and the third installment will also feature an entirely new story, but many of the same cast will return. In the images below we see Lau Ching Wan, Alex Fong, Gordon Lam, Lam Ka Wah, Kenneth Tsang and Ng Man Tat, who are being billed as the "Hong Kong Tyrant Full Collection", and the plot of Overheard 3 this time revolves around a group of unscrupulous land owners looking to increase their fortune. Daniel Wu and Louis Koo also star in the film, but clearly appear on...

It’s been at least five days since we carried any news on a big budget martial arts movie, so we had best rectify that right now with some early doors info on a new action/adventure, fantasy movie - starring actress/model and all round babelet Chrissie Chau - The Extreme Fox. Hong Kong acting vets Alex Fong and Suet Lam are also on side to round off the main cast. Right now all we got is a teaser poster and a brief summary of the plot. But that’s enough to be going on with. The Extreme Fox is currently in post production so we expect to see more, hopefully soon! Synopsis: Wang Sheng, a Ming-Dynasty scholar who just failed the Imperial Examination, works together with his fellow villagers through many strange but fantastic approaches to change his hometown’s backwardness and his own fate. He accidentally meets...

Overview:
The original movie was well-received by critics and the viewing public alike. The thrilling sequences and the conflicts faced by the main characters between ethics and compassion; add that to a refreshing premise, everything about Overheard was begging for a sequel- except one minor issue- two thirds of the main cast had met their demise in the show, so had the main villain, the love interests and even the team leader of the other squad played by a typically over-the-top Alex Fong.
So what do the producers do to keep us hungry fan-boys at bay? Run another movie based on largely the same premise (phone tapping) featuring the same main cast members but otherwise an entirely different film. Sufficient elements are retained to justify categorizing it as part of the same series, in order to ride on the fame of the original movie.

Director: Alan Mak & Felix Chong. Review: Adam Wing. It’s that time of the month again; the hardest working action hero in Hong Kong is back in business, doing what he does best in the name of entertainment. Infernal Affairs writer-directors Alan Mak and Felix Chong stand in the shadows, hoping to bring Romance of the Three Kingdoms back to life with their latest assault on the senses, The Lost Bladesman. Donnie Yen serves as both action director and star, boasting solid support from the likes of Betty Sun, Andy On, Nie Yuan and the screen-munching Jiang Wen. Guan Yu (Donnie Yen) is a historic figure known for unparalleled bravery, supreme honour and unwavering loyalty. That would be Donnie Yen then, complete with chin stroking pointy beard and toughness aplenty. In the final years of the Eastern Han dynasty, the Prime Minister Cao Cao (Jiang Wen) is so powerful even...

Stateside fans of Donnie Yen should be happy right now — the actor’s latest Chinese epic “The Lost Bladesman” has been acquired by The Weinstein Company for North American distribution. Hopefully TWC won’t do what they normally do with their Chinese acquisitions and sit on it for years before unleashing it in limited released and a big DVD dump shortly thereafter. In the film, a tyrant forces the greatest warrior in the land (that would be Donnie Yen) to battle his greatest friend by holding the woman they both love hostage. Also starring Andy On, Wen Jiang, Betty Sun, and Alex Fong. “The Lost Blademan”, which will open in Chinese theaters last this month, is directed by Felix Chong and Alan Mak, the guys behind the “Infernal Affairs” films. No word on a Stateside release date yet. An English-subtitled trailer and a batch of images from the movie below to whet your appetite.

This sucker might be only a minute and thirty seconds long, but it certainly packs one hell of a punch. Alan Mak and Felix Chong’s “The Lost Bladesman”, which stars Donnie Yen, Sun Li, Jiang Wen, Alex Fong Chung Sun, Andy On, Chin Siu Ho, Wang Xue Bing, and Shao Bing, has the potential to be pretty darn snazzy. Not surprisingly, I tend to flock towards anything that involves Donnie Yen in some form or fashion. The guy is, simply put, extremely badass, and I’m always down for watching him pummel his on-screen companions. From the looks of the embedded trailer, there is definitely some pummeling going on. Which is always a good thing, in my opinion. “The Lost Bladesman” slices its way into Hong Kong theaters on April 28th, 2011. Many thanks to the folks at Film Smash for posting this kick-ass little teaser. function getVideo() { var so = new SWFObject("http://cdn.

I never grow tired of watching Donnie Yen kick loads of ass on the big screen. The guy is insanely talented, and when you sit down with something he’s involved with, you know you’re in for one hell of a good time. The boys and girls over at Film Smash got their nifty little hands on the new poster for Alan Mak and Felix Chong’s upcoming epic “The Lost Bladesman”, which co-stars Sun Li, Jiang Wen, Alex Fong, and Andy On. Not only does Mr. Yen star in the flick, he also serves as the action choreographer. Sweet. Here’s what it’s all about: During the warring period of the three kingdoms, ancient China is in turmoil. To unify the country general Cao Cao, the real power behind the emperor, enlists the aid of the greatest warrior in the land Guan Yun Chang (Donnie Yen). However,...

Derek Yee, currently one of the hottest thriller directors working in Hong Kong at the moment after the likes of “Shinjuku Incident” and the awesome “One Nite in Mongkok”, returns with “Triple Tap”. A follow up of sorts to the 2000 Leslie Cheung starring “Double Tap”, the film again takes place in the world of sharpshooting and men driven to the edge by the dangerous power of wielding a gun. This time around, the lead roles are taken by popular actors Daniel Wu and Louis Koo, with support from a returning Alex Fong and female eye candy in the form of Charlene Choi and Li Bing Bing (recently in Mainland thriller “The Message”). The film begins with investment banking hotshot Ken (Louis Koo) and police detective Jerry (Daniel Wu) coming up against each other in a sharp shooting competition, which Ken wins by a narrow margin. On the way home afterwards,...

Killer Imports [1] is a regular feature on Film Junk where we explore foreign-language films from around the world that haven’t yet had their chance to shine. Kung Fu Cyborg: Metallic Attraction opens with a promising title sequence. On a plain white background befitting a technologically sterile environment, a headless robotic body performs various human movements like training on a Wing Chun dummy and playing an erhu, a Chinese musical instrument. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie was rather disappointing although it does have a certain amount of charm. I had not heard or seen anything about this movie when I noticed its clunky title on the DVD cover. Since the images on the cover were rather indistinct, I imagined either a martial arts Terminator wreaking havoc or an Ultraman-like hero dispatching evil-doers. What I got instead were Transformers in a meandering mess of a plot meant to please everyone.

With so many Chinese films still being called ‘Kung Fu’ something or other, and with the continuing global success of Michael Bay’s blockbuster “Transformer” franchise, “Kung Fu Cyborg: Metallic Attraction” was pretty much inevitable. The Hong Kong director getting in on the act is none other than Jeffrey Lau, who previously had hits with the likes of “A Chinese Tall Story” and the classic Stephen Chow “A Chinese Odyssey” vehicles. Perhaps unsurprisingly given Lau’s predilection for the mass mixing of genres, although the film’s advertising suggested non-stop brawling robots, he delivers something quite different, backed by a top cast of Hong Kong and Mainland stars and some boisterously over the top special effects. The film follows Alex Fong (recently in the excellent “I Corrupt all Cops”) as K-1, a state built cyborg who for no discernable reason is sent by his creator (the inimitable Eric Tsang in...

Killer Imports [1] is a regular feature on Film Junk where we explore foreign-language films from around the world that haven’t yet had their chance to shine. Back in November, we reported Hong Kong director Jeffery Lau was developing Robot (working title), a futuristic sci-fi film he had been formulating in his head for the last ten years. It was only after he watched Transformers that spur him to shoot it. The cast is compose of actors/actress from mainland and Hong Kong, including Wu Jing, Hu Jun, Sun Li, Ronald Cheng and Alex Fong.

If I gotta choose a torchbearer for the next kick ass actor in Hong Kong actioner, Wu Jing would easily be high on my candidate list. Some pop singer/actor who attempt to pass off as the raising new action star doesn’t cut it for me whereas Wu, who trained in martial arts since he was young, has believable on-screen fight presence and charisma as already proven in Spl, Invisible Target and Fatal Contact. In the much awaited martial arts thriller Legendary Assassin, Wu will also get a chance to display his directorial chops for the first time, alongside action choreographer Nicky Li. Based on the trailer, the sweet action scene further validate why I believe Wu is the real deal. The rest of the cast member include Celina Jade, Kou Zhan Wen (a fellow Wushu teammate of Wu), Alex Fong and giant wrestler Jiang Bao Cheng. Heres the...
