One of the juiciest much-awaited stories this season is Universal Pictures’ She Said, the Maria Schrader-directed telling of the investigation behind New York Times’ 2017 exposé of Harvey Weinstein that launched the #MeToo movement in Hollywood. Based on the 2019 book by the story-breaking journalists Jodi Kantor and Meghan Twohey, Zoe Kazan will be here to talk about her role as Kantor, starring opposite Carey Mulligan as Twohey.

It feels inappropriate to call the true crime genre "entertainment," but it's never been more evident that audiences can't get enough of dark stories based on real-life events. The true crime bubble keeps getting bigger, and Netflix is cashing in on these stories in a very big way. Despite the protests from the living family members of the victims of Jeffrey Dahmer, Netflix forged through with Ryan Murphy's "Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," and the show was a massive success. Murphy's follow-up project, "The Watcher," was so popular it impacted the sales of home security cameras, and the recent release of "The Good Nurse" is proof the streamer doesn't have any intention of changing pace anytime soon.
The latest true crime adaptation is based on Charles Graeber's book " The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder," which detailed the shocking story of nurse Amy Loughren,...

Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne passed through the Toronto Film Festival Monday morning where they discussed their true-crime thriller The Good Nurse.
The film centers on Amy Loughren (Chastain), a nurse who starts to believe that her colleague Charlie Cullen (Redmayne) is responsible for a series of mysterious patient deaths and risks her own life to uncover the truth.

I don’t wanna celebrate or have the media glorify what happened to another human being. I wanna celebrate humanity, which is why I was excited about this.”

Netflix has a knack for getting a lot of very talented people together in movies that seemingly just wouldn't get made at a traditional studio anymore. Case in point, "The Good Nurse" is a movie that features two Oscar winners in the form of Jessica Chastain ("It Chapter Two") and Eddie Redmayne ("The Theory of Everything") front-and-center in a thriller that is based on true events.
As the title implies, they are nurses working at a hospital but, as it turns out, only one of them is good and the other might actually be very bad. For a movie with such a seemingly innocuous title, the body count certainly stacks up in a hurry here. Let's take a gander, shall we?
The Good Nurse Trailer Is Full Of Murder And Intrigue
Things don't take long to get a little twisted as Chastain's character Amy meets up with Redmayne's Charlie at a coffee shop.

Production budgets on U.S. independent movies are regularly too high to make them viable in the international sales marketplace, but it’s no easy task for producers to cut them, said speakers at the Zurich Summit yesterday (September 28).
Talking at the event, Thorsten Schumacher, founder and CEO of international sales outfit Rocket Science, said that budgets have been getting tighter in recent years, but they still need to decrease by up to half to make them realistic prospects.
“Budgets have come down but they still should come down a lot more”, the sales vet posited. “U.S. films often need to come down by up to 50%. It feels like if you’re making European films, budgets are ok.”
Speaking on a later panel, Black Swan and Jackie producer Scott Franklin said that he was constantly aware of the need to keep budgets in check.

Studio 8 plans to build a franchise around title character, John Prophet, a DNA enhanced super-soldier placed into a cryogenic freeze for a future mission only to awaken in the wrong time (current time) searching for a mission that does not exist. Pitched as very much the anti-Captain America across the board. He’s a ruthless berserker that must find his humanity.
Liefeld, Adrian Askarieh and Brooklyn Weaver will produce.

Hustler, dealer, kingpin, informant, legend … teenager. It’s 1984 Detroit — and the only thing hotter than the Tigers that year was crack cocaine. Well, maybe the War on Drugs. Kids asks, “How come we stay [here], Dad?” He replies, “Son, a lion don’t leave the Serengeti.”
Here is the first trailer for White Boy Rick, starring Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey as the father and Richie Merritt as the 15-year-old. Here’s the logline: Based on the moving true story of a blue-collar father and his teenage son, Rick Wershe Jr., who became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison.
Little Rick gets mixed up in deep in some stuff but handles and does it well. “You wanna move weight, you come to me,” he’s told — and the kid is on his way to being “legit.

Now that it’s screened at both the Venice and Toronto film festivals, “mother!” isn’t quite the mystery it once was. As most of the world has yet to see Darren Aronofsky’s new thriller, however, questions remain — and, with his film unveiled to the world, Aronofsky is slightly less tight-lipped than he has been in recent months.

"I would like for someone to say that they're sorry for killing my family." Lionsgate Premiere has released a trailer for a film titled Aftermath, about the lives of two people intertwined after an airplane accident. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a father who struggles with grief after his wife and daughter are killed in a plane crash. Scoot McNairy plays an air traffic controller who makes an error that leads to the accident. The cast includes Maggie Grace, Kevin Zegers, Hannah Ware, Glenn Morshower, and Mariana Klaveno. In addition, Darren Aronofsky is listed as a producer on the film, along with his co-producing partner Scott Franklin. This looks quite solid, even though it seems like such a sad story for everyone in this. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Elliott Lester's Aftermath, direct from YouTube: Two strangers’ lives become inextricably bound together after a devastating plane crash. As expected, Fox Searchlight Pictures took advantage of its first and last dibs on Pablo Larraín’s hot acquisition title “Jackie” to acquire U.S. rights. “Jackie,” which tells the JFK assassination aftermath from the perspective of widow Jacqueline Kennedy (Natalie Portman), was not a Tiff debut; that honor went to Venice, where it was a hit and Noah Oppenheim won for best screenplay. However, it was Tiff’s Sunday night screening where the bidding began in earnest — and with it, the possibility that the Chilean filmmaker’s film would be an Oscar contender. (Chile has submitted his Tiff title “Neruda” as its official foreign language Oscar contender.)

Domhnall Gleeson and Michelle Pfeiffer are set to join Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem in the new and currently untitled film from acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky that's set up at Paramount Pictures.
The story follows a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. The tone is completely unknown at this point, meaning the film could run the gamut from being either a talky dark comedy like "Carnage" to a disturbing and even gory home invasion film.
Ed Harris and Brian Gleeson also star in the project which will shoot this spring for a 2017 release. Aronofsky is set to write, direct and produce through his own Protozoa Pictures along with Scott Franklin and Ari Handel.

Danish actor Caspar Phillipson will star opposite Natalie Portman’s former First Lady as John F. Kennedy in upcoming political drama, Jackie.
Though a prominent figure in modern American history, Phillipson’s casting as JFK doesn’t necessarily open up much screentime for the actor, given that Pablo Larrain’s feature will place Portman’s grieving Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy into the limelight soon after her husband’s assassination in Texas in 1963. Our guess? Jackie will incorporate Phillipson’s fallen president via some form of flashback sequences, as Portman’s reminisces about happier days spent walking Washington’s corridors of power.
Filming is still ongoing on the set of Jackie, and recent, sombre photos have showcased the actress donning the black veil for what we assume to be her late husband’s funeral circa November 22, 1963. It’s that trying period following JFK’s death that will serve as the basis for the movie,...

Entertainment Weekly has unveiled a new photo for Pablo Larraín’s Jackie, placing Natalie Portman into the role of the former First Lady.
Production continued over the weekend on the Washington D.C. set of the director’s Jacqueline Kennedy biopic, and here we get a glimpse of Portman’s widow covered by a black veil for what we assume to be her late husband’s funeral circa November 22, 1963.
Adapted for the screen by Noah Oppenheim (The Divergent Series: Allegiant, The Maze Runner), Jackie largely revolves around the emotional and political fallout in the days after the assassination of JFK, and today’s sombre new still gives us an indication of Jacqueline’s fractured mindset – portrayed with delicacy by Portman.
Behind the lens, Jackie marks a reunion for Portman and Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, who despite emerging as an early frontrunner to take the reins of the film, remains attached as producer.

Darren Aronofsky‘s next project, one which he’ll write, produce and direct, is beginning to pick up speed after finding a home at Paramount. Not only that, but according to Variety, the untitled 2017 release looks to have cast Javier Bardem opposite Jennifer Lawrence, though representatives for the former declined to confirm the casting coup at this time.
Though it’s still shrouded in mystery, the outlet notes that the director’s latest creative venture will revolve around “a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence,” with Lawrence and Bardem presumably in contention to topline the drama as the troubled pairing.
Eyeing a spring start date for the project, Aronofsky will produce the feature in collaboration with Scott Franklin and Ari Handel. Indeed, the film set up shop at Paramount after New Regency – where Darren Aronofsky holds a first-look deal – opted...

Darren Aronofsky will return for the first time since the divisive "Noah" (2014) with his untitled 2017 relationship drama, starring Jennifer Lawrence and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Javier Bardem is in talks to co-star. Produced under the writer/director's own Protozoa Pictures label with Scott Franklin and Ari Handel, the project was passed over by New Regency, with whom Aronofsky has a first-look deal. The film will be the rather deliberate filmmaker's seventh feature since he debuted "Pi" in 1998, including "Black Swan" (2010), for which he received his sole Oscar nomination. (Aronofsky, whose filmography is defined by challenging, jet-black examinations of characters experiencing physical and psychological, has been better received by the Indie Spirits, from which he's landed five nominations and three wins.) The new project, planned for release in 2017, "centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at...
