Updated: Netflix has renewed Ginny & Georgia, starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, for a third and fourth season. Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has been named showrunner for the upcoming seasons. She replaces Debra J. Fisher, who served as showrunner on the first two seasons.
Given Ginny & Georgia’s very strong performance and very appealing economics, the two-season order is not a surprise; Netflix has done it on other series with similar pedigree, including Virgin River.
What is surprising was the four-month wait for a series of that level of ratings success to be renewed. According to sources, the pickup was done awhile ago but held for Netflix’s upfront.
As for the showrunner change, there had been rumors about friction between Fisher and Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert. By April, there was speculation that Fisher would be departing the series.

Netflix‘s Ginny & Georgia has become the latest viral sensation. The series follows Georgia (Brianne Howey), a young mom who is constantly on the run from her dark past. When Georgia moves to a new town with her angsty teen daughter, Ginny (Antonia Gentry), and Ginny’s younger brother, her secrets come to light as Ginny realizes who her mother truly is and what she’s capable of. The mother-daughter series is filled with teen drama, love triangles, murder, and lies, but is Ginny & Georgia a true story? Here’s what to know about the inspiration for the series.

Ginny & Georgia has dominated the Netflix charts since the second season debuted. Set in Wellsbury, Massachusetts, the drama series follows 31-year-old Georgia (Brianne Howey) and her 16-year-old daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) as they navigate their relationship and their personal lives.
The series revealed so much in season 2, but who is Mary?
Brianne Howey as Georgia Miller in ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Season 2 | Amanda Matlovich/Netflix ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Season 2 revealed more of Georgia’s backstory
Fans learned a lot more about Georgia’s past this season, which also informs the way she examines her life and how she parents her children.
“Georgia’s worldview is oddly limited for a woman with all these experiences that are contained, unfortunately, in this trauma, this grief,” Howey told Tudum. “It’s hard for her to open her worldview and see and imagine that Ginny has all of these other thoughts, opinions, feelings, and beliefs.

Netflix has a major hit on its hand with Ginny & Georgia. The series centers on a young mother/daughter duo Georgia (Brianne Howey) and Ginny (Antonia Gentry), who are trying to fit into their new community while coming to find a place in their new community.
While the pair had a decent relationship in season 1, the series’ second season showcased them at odds with one another. This is why Georgia had so much trouble seeing things from her daughter’s perspective.

Netflix‘s Ginny & Georgia Season 2 faced what many ongoing streaming series encounter – picking up a continuous storyline, but filming it months or even years later.
How do the filmmakers and actors recreate the same magic from the previous season after significant time has passed?
Ginny & Georgia Season 1 ended with Ginny (Antonia Gentry) learning that her mother Georgia (Brianne Howey) had murdered her stepfather. Angry and confused, Ginny steals Marcus’s (Felix Mallard) motorcycle and rides off into the night with little brother Austin (Diesel La Torraca) on the back.
Director James Genn, who was charged with knitting together Ginny & Georgia Seasons 1 and 2 recently reflected on the challenges he faced.
“I came to the series like everyone else,” Genn told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “I didn’t have anything to do with the first season and was introduced to it like the rest of the world, by turning on Netflix and bingeing the whole first season.

The official trailer for season two of Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia suggests fans should buckle up because we’re in for a bumpy ride. I’m a damaged, trailer-park, teen-mom murderer.” Nailed it!

The show’s name is Ginny & Georgia, so it clearly wasn’t going to keep the mother and daughter apart for long. Following the Season 1 finale cliffhanger, in which Ginny and her little brother skipped town after she discovered that their mom had poisoned their stepfather, the Season 2 trailer features Georgia and her kids back under the same roof in Wellsbury.
Ginny is trying to live with her mom’s deadly secret while acting normal, which is proving rather difficult, and tensions rise between the two.
“I’m not normal, I’m a damaged trailer park teen mom murderer,” Georgia exclaims at one point.
While Maxine still appears mad at Ginny for hiding her relationship with her twin brother from her, Ginny and Marcus’ romance is back on despite the “mistake” comment he made in the Season 1 finale.
“You make sense to me,” Marcus tells Ginny but also adds, a little ominously,...

Netflix has set January 5 for the Season 2 premiere of Ginny & Georgia, starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry. The streamer also released some first-look photos of the upcoming season, which shed some light on what happens after the Season 1 finale cliffhanger that saw Ginny and her little brother on a motorcycle, leaving town after she discovers that her mom had poisoned her stepfather.
The photos (you can launch the gallery above), indicate that Ginny (Gentry) and her brother return home. The expectation was that they fled to Ginny’s father Zion in Boston, which still could be the case as a photo has Zion confronting his ex in the family kitchen. Ginny also is back with her friends at school and shares a moment with her on-again off-again love interest Marcus, while Georgia (Howey) is seen embracing her fiancé Paul.

Years ago I was very ill with stomach pains but was socially obligated for some reason to see the film Juno with a friend. The film made me so angry that I forgot all about my illness, and instead of shaking with pain I was trembling with rage. I tell this story because it's the last time I can remember being so disgusted at a movie which treated its audience with such utter contempt. With Old Stock I got some serious deja vu, as director James Genn and writer Dane Clark have obviously been watching the back catalogue of Wes Anderson and Miranda July (a very, very dangerous combination) and have been taking notes. I suspect they also watched Garden State. [Continued ...]...

Old Stock
Directed by James Genn
Written by Dane Clark
Canada, 2012
We live in a youth-obsessed culture. That much we know. We worship at the altar of infinite possibility, saying “youth must have its fling” – and we bemoan those lost opportunities to “make our mistakes”. But there’s nothing bracing or invigorating about living through a real folly of youth. One that hurts the ones we care about. Those kinds of mistakes can make people instantly old, no matter what their calendar age. Old Stock explores the consequences of two such follies: one that engulfs its title character at the end of high school, and another committed by an older man in the grip of second child(hood)ishness.
When we first meet Stock Burton (Noah Reid), he is living in a retirement home with his grandfather (Harold, played with old-time Allen Jenkins-ish charm by Danny Wells), who is...

Toronto – The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (CBC) is weighing "Fancy," a half-hour comedy pilot about a complicated kids TV host from Vancouver-based indie producer Gang of Two and Crescent Entertainment, as a possible 2010 series pick-up.
James Genn directed the "Fancy" pilot for executive producer Jayme Pfahl and producers Wendy Hopkins and Ken Lawson.
The comedy pilot, written by Hopkins and starring Kate Hewlett, Pat McKenna and Jana Peck, follows the host of a kids TV show, Maureen Fancy (Hewlett), who is perky and happy on camera, and anything but off camera as she fends off endless complications in her personal life.
A CBC spokesman said the public broadcaster has just received the pilot, and will decide on an additional 12-episode order early in the new year.
The public broadcaster earlier this week ordered two seasons of the new computer-generated animation series "Pirates!" from Halifax-based indie producer Halifax Films for its morning preschool block,...
