“We accidentally summoned demons who used to rule the universe to come and take over the world,” says Terry (Louis Tripp), the troubled best friend of pre-teen Glen (Stephen Dorff in his film debut). He’s not joking. A steaming hole has opened up in Glen’s back garden, and while his parents are away for the weekend he’ll have to defend his home from a demonic invasion.
Glen’s main guardian is his older sister, Al (Christa Denton). Together, the siblings and Terry will face ghosts, poltergeists, zombies, moths and hordes of ankle-biting mini trolls. The ancient evil needs two human sacrifices in order to unleash its full power on the world. Any two will do. Can the kids survive the night?...

The History Channel has released a full trailer for their new four-hour Houdini miniseries. The show will follow the life of the legendary magician from his beginnings in desperate poverty to the worldwide fame that he gained. The series stars Adrien Brody, and it looks like it's going to be pretty damn good.
Before David Blaine and David Copperfield, there was one man whose name was synonymous with being the master of illusion and escape - Harry Houdini. Houdini follows the man behind the magic as he finds fame, engages in espionage, battles spiritualists and encounters the greatest names of the era, from U.S. presidents to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Grigori Rasputin. The drama will chronicle the life of a man who can defy death through his stunts, his visions and his mastery of illusion.

You know who would look good dressed up like a magician? Adrien Brody. The man has a certain quality to him that lends itself to the stage. And damn, does he look good in a tuxedo! Put a top hat on this guy, maybe a cape for good measure, and you could sell countless seats to a show. Of course, he’s not a real magician – for the record, I have no actual knowledge that Brody isn’t a practicing magician – but that doesn’t mean he can’t pretend to be one. He is, after all, an actor. The History Channel must have been thinking the same thing, because they’ve picked up Brody to play the star of its latest historical miniseries, Houdini.

Given its impeccable track record so far with megahits Hatfields & McCoys and The Bible, a miniseries greenlight at History is big news. The cable channel’s latest long-form project to go into production is Houdini, a four-hour miniseries about the famous magician. Oscar winner Adrien Brody, who had been attached to the mini since the development stage, will play the title character, joined by Kristen Connolly (House Of Cards) as Houdini’s wife Bess. The mini, from Lionsgate and A+E Studios, the recently launched A+E Networks in-house studio headed by Bob DeBitetto, will trace the arc of Houdini’s life from desperate poverty to worldwide fame. Filming is slated to begin this fall. “It’s not magic that History has established a strong track record with its high-quality historical dramas from quality auspices,” said History’s Evp and general manager Dirk Hoogstra. “We’re excited to build on that tremendous momentum with Houdini.

Talk about timely, Samuel L. Jackson is going to be playing a negotiator yet again. Only this time he'll be talking to pirates and ship owners in order to broker a deal that probably won't have anything to do with whether or not her murdered his partner, Nate. Also, these aren't pirates of the "Arrrrrrrrrr!" and "Polly wanna cracker?" variety, but instead are the Somali variety that have been in the news lately.
Variety reports that Jackson will be producing this film along with Andras Hamori. The two previously produced Formula 51 back in 2002 which featured Jackson in a kilt. Jackson will portray real-life pirate negotiator and freelance journalist Andrew Mwangura who has successfully worked out deals between pirates and ship owners before. Deals that often involve a lot of money, say to the tune of $3.4 million dollars. However, that's money paid to the pirates as a ransom, not Mwangura's take.

Samuel L. Jackson’s company Uppity Films and Andras Hamori’s H20 Motion Pictures have just secured the rights to the life story of Andrew Mwangura.
Mwangura is the current head of the Seafarer’s Assistance Programme, an organization founded in 1996 that monitors piracy that happens off the African coast. He is an ex-marine engineer who is not paid for his work negotiating between pirates and their captives – he is a freelance journalist.
Said Hamori, “(Andrew) has the trust of the pirates and the ship owners, and his loyalty is to the kidnapped crews that get caught in the middle of these episodes.”
The story of Mwangura is aiming to have Jackson play the lead role. As of now, there is no word of a script or even title for the project.

Samuel L. Jackson is following in Johnny Depp's buccaneer footsteps, and starring in a new movie about pirates.
But the Pulp Fiction star won't be portraying a swashbuckling villain - he's signed to play real-life pirate negotiator Andrew Mwangura.
Journalist Mwangura volunteers his time negotiating the release of vessels hijacked off the African coast.
The as-yet-untitled movie will be produced by Andras Hamori who has bought the rights to Mwangura's story - which has been thrust into the limelight after a recent surge in pirate activity.
Hamori tells Daily Variety, "Andrew has the trust of the pirates and the ship owners, and his loyalty is to the kidnapped crews that get caught in the middle of these episodes."...

No, Samuel L. Jackson is not contending with Johnny Depp. According to sources, the actor and his Uppity Films company have joined forces with Andras Hamori's H20 Motion Pictures to secure life rights of Andrew Mwangura, a negotiator between pirates and the owners of vessels hijacked off the coast of Africa. Jackson wants to play Mwangura who is freelance journalist and ex-marine engineer who runs the nonprofit group called the Seafarers' Assistance Programme that offers humanitarian aid to all seafarers. Apparently Hamori flew to Mombassa to negotiate a rights deal while Mwangura negotiated the freedom of the Ukrainian ship V.S. Faina and its crew and cargo for $3.4 million. Sounds incredibly interesting and something worth following...

Samuel Jackson's Uppity Films and H20 Motion Pictures have joined forces to secure the life rights of Andrew Mwangura, a negotiator between pirates and the owners of vessels hijacked off the coast of Africa. The two companies will together develop a feature film based on Mwangura, with Samuel Jackson set to portray the cinematic version of the character. Mwangura is a freelance journalist and ex-marine engineer who runs the Seafarers' Assistance Programme, a nonprofit group that offers humanitarian aid to all seafarers. No writer or director has been hired, as this project is still in the early developmental stage. "(Andrew) has the trust of the pirates and the ship owners, and his loyalty is to the kidnapped crews that get caught in the middle of these episodes," Andras Hamori said. While Hamori was in Africa coordinating the arrangement, Mwangura negotiated a $3.4 million deal for the crew and cargo of...

Here's a fast turnaround from real-life event to film: Samuel L. Jackson is set to star as Andrew Mwangura, the freelance journalist and hostage negotiator who recently played go-between when Somali pirates took several ships hostage.Mwangura is a journalist and ex-marine engineer who runs the Seafarers' Assistance Programme, a nonprofit group that offers humanitarian aid to all seafarers. He was flown in to settle the dispute, earning the trust of both sides and brokering a deal to recover the crew and cargo for $3.4million (a high price apparently reached after the pirates discovered a cache of Russian tanks onboard the Ukranian ship they seized). Jackson is working with producer Andras Hamori on the film: the pair previously worked together on The 51st State and are collaborating on Jg Ballard adaptation Running Wild, about a massacre in a gated community, which is still in pre-production. Meanwhile Jackson's shooting Iron Man 2,...

Variety is reporting Samuel L. Jackson and his Uppity Films have joined forces with Andras Hamori's H20 Motion Pictures to secure life rights of Andrew Mwangura, a negotiator between pirates and the owners of vessels hijacked off the coast of Africa. Jackson has set his sights on playing Mwangura in a feature film centered on the story of the man who serves as a journalist and ex-marine engineer who runs the Seafarers' Assistance Programme, a nonprofit group that offers humanitarian aid to all seafarers. A quick search around the Internet directed me to an article at The Scotsman headlined "Pirates stolen your supertanker off Africa? Here's the man to speak to" with an interview with Mwangura from March of 2008, saying he lives in a two-room shack and relies on internet cafes to communicate with his global network of contacts. Mwangura isn't paid for his negotiating work; he makes his living as a freelance journalist.

The talented Sam Jackson is doing a pirate movie. You know, desperate impoverished people from a horrible country run by warlords who instead of doing something to fix their fucked up part of the world start robbing people from the parts of the world that have their shit together. I’d probably do the same in their position. It’s easier than going through all the shit our forefathers went through to get this government thing right. I’m no Benjamin Franklin, though I have been known now and then, to fly a kite. Some of you are probably wishing I’d go fly one, right now.The movie in question will be based on the life story of Andrew Mwangura, a journalist and ex-marine engineer who runs a nonprofit group which offers humanitarian aid to all sailors. Mwangura played negotiator between west African pirates and the owners of hijacked vessels.

In the 1998 film The Negotiator, Samuel L. Jackson played a down-on-his luck police negotiator in Chicago who takes hostages to try to prove his innocence in a police conspiracy.

An odd announcement out of Cannes this evening as Andras Hamori's H20 Motion Pictures has green-lighted The Gate -- 20 Years Later, a sequel to the 1987 hit teen horror title. The film was originally announced here this past December as a 3-d remake, but it looks as it's now being billed as a sequel. Special effects wizard Randall William Cook, a three-time Oscar winner for his visual effects on "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, is still set to make his directorial debut with "The Gate -- 20 Years Later." The original film starred Stephen Dorff and Louis Tripp as kids who accidentally open a gate to hell in their backyard, releasing deadly pint-sized demons.
