The legendary Rowan Atkinson will be French detective Jules Maigret for two new ITV telly movies…
Interesting news, this – ITV have announced two TV movies based on fictional French detective Jules Maigret. In the starring role will be Mr Rowan Atkinson. We assume you’re as intrigued as we are to see how this one turns out.
If you’re not familiar, Jules Maigret is the protagonist of Georges Simenon’s series of detective novels set in 1950s Paris. It’s a statement of confidence, surely, that ITV have announced two films from the off.
The first of these films will be Maigret Sets A Trap, followed by Maigret’s Dead Man. Treasure Island and Marple director Stewart Harcourt will helm both of them. This choice makes us think that a more serious tone than Atkinson’s Mr Bean and Johnny English exploits will be on the cards here, which should be interesting.

Over a glass of wine at a busy restaurant bar adjacent to a mall cinema on the west side of Los Angeles, British comic and actor Eddie Izzard shares his long-standing desire to be bald -- not permanently, mind you, but just for a role.
"I've been trying to shave my head in some role for eight years," he tells Zap2it. "I just thought it'd be an interesting take. ... To keep a comedic thing going and a dramatic thing, it's a tricky thing to do. If you can break a look, if you can make it so one is over there and one is, 'Oh, God, you look so different,' that really helps."
Izzard is at the cinema for a screening of the first half of his latest project, a new, four-hour version of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic "Treasure Island," airing all in one night Saturday, May 5, on Syfy.

The big Elijah Wood news in the past couple days was that the actor will appear in The Hobbit to reprise his character Frodo from The Lord of the Rings. (Details on that appearance here [1].) But he's also got another role booked: he'll be Ben Gunn in a Sky TV adaptation of Treasure Island, scripted by Stewart Harcourt and directed by Steve Barron (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Eddie Izzard is playing Long John Silver, which is brilliant. After the break, Neve Campbell books a role to follow Scream 4, and Michael Fassbender circles a Sean Penn film. The Glass Man is shooting now, with Neve Campbell, Andy Nyman and James Cosmo appearing, with Cristian Solimeno writing and directing. Called "a recession horror film," the plot goes like this: The Glass Man is about a guy with a nice middle class lifestyle who works in the financial sector. Thanks to the banking collapse he loses...

After internet rumors spread like wildfire over the past few days, Elijah Wood's publicist has now confirmed he's set to reprise his most famous role, Frodo, in Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit." Wood gained worldwide fame after playing J.R. Tolkien's selfless hero Frodo in Jackson's three "Lord of the Rings" films. While Frodo does not appear in Tolkien's "Hobbit" novel, it appears Jackson, Fran Walsh and Guillermo del Toro figured out a way for him to make an appearance in one or both films. In addition to "The Hobbit," Wood has also been cast in Stewart Harcourt’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s...

It was recently confirmed Warner Bros. will pay the entire cost of the two installments of The Hobbit, a price-tag that is expected to exceed $500 million. At the same time it was mentioned Elijah Wood may be returning to Middle Earth as Frodo and today I received confirmation this is in fact true.
For those wondering how Frodo would return to a story set before the Lord of the Rings trilogy, official fansite The One Ring writes: As readers of "The Hobbit" know, the tale of "The Downfall of The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit or There and Back Again," are contained in the fictional "Red Book of Westmarch." In Peter Jackson's Lotr films, the books are shown on screen and written in by Bilbo and Frodo and handed off to Sam Gamgee. Respected Lotr fansite TheOneRing.net have confirmed that Elijah Wood will indeed return to Middle-Earth for The Hobbit and that they’ve sat on the news for weeks, at least until Deadline caught wind of the cameo and told everyone yesterday. Spoilers Ahead
