All-New Hawkeye #1
Written by Jeff Lemire

There are two Hawkeyes in the Marvel Universe. Clint Barton, the original article, who has been carrying the bow, arrows, and occasionally a purple mask since he was a member of “Cap’s Kooky Quartet” back in the 1960s. However, he also passed down his bow and name to Kate Bishop, the most competent member of the Young Avengers back in the mid-00s when the Superhuman Registration Act was still a thing. They went their separate ways during Matt Fraction and Dave Aja’s Hawkeye run, but storytellers Jeff Lemire and Ramon Perez along with colorist Ian Herring bring both Hawkeyes together in All-New Hawkeye #1 through a dual narrative structure, different, yet complementary art styles, and a heavy helping of banter.

Spider-Man writer Dan Slott has announced a Year One-esque Spider-Man mini-series to coincide with Peter Parker’s return to the Marvel Universe, the AP reports.
Peter Parker has been absent for nearly a year and a half while his nemesis Doc Ock has occupied his body as the Superior Spider-Man. That storyline is coming to a close and Peter will be returning as the one and only Amazing Spider-Man this summer.
To celebrate this, Slott – who has written Spider-Man since 2008 – will go back to his origins when Peter first became Spider-Man and explore his reactions to his new superpowers, becoming a masked vigilante, and juggling school and the loss of Uncle Ben at the same time.
Slott says the series will pay homage to Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s comics from the early 60s, while also filling in a lot of the blanks their run brought up:

This May, writer Dan Slott and artist Ramón Pérez will shed some light on Peter Parker's early days as Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man, Year One: Learning to Crawl. "When you're looking at things in those issues, you're going: 'Wait a minute! How did this happen? How did he get this? Where did this come from? Why didn't Aunt May ever wonder about that?'" Slott said in an interview with The Associated Press today. "Learning To Crawl" kicks off in May with Amazing Spider-Man #1.1, and Alex Ross has painted a cover for each instalment of the new series. However, what will it add to the already very familiar tale? "Someone's running around trying to be just like Spider-Man and there's no way in Peter's mind that he's not responsible for everything that guy's going to do," Slott revealed. "He's got his first villain who is his own age, someone...

Picking ten artists out of the vast array of talent working in comics today is an impossible task. These artists were chosen based on the uniqueness of their style compared to the “house” style of Marvel and DC, their ability to create character, setting, and plot through their art, and also on the quality of the covers that they’ve done. All of the artists on this list have regular interior work so artists like J.H. Williams, Bryan Lee O’Malley, and Alex Ross can’t be found here (even though Alex Ross’ Justice League is the cover image). Without further ado (and in honor of the late Wizard magazine), here are the top ten hottest current artists in comics in no particular order.

With Hugh Jackman's The Wolverine gearing up for a July screen debut and the massive crossover event X-Men: Days of Future Past in production for a 2014 debut, the mutants are proceeding with their cinematic evolution.
And there's plenty afoot in the comic books too. Marvel very much had X-Men on its mind when it gathered the troops at Chicago convention C2E2 2013 to lay out the mutants' path in the printed world.
Kicked off by moderator Arune Singh, the panel featured editors: Tom Brevoort, Jordan White and C.B. Cebulski (also Marvel's talent scout) as well as the writer and artist talents of Rick Remender, Paul Cornell, Brian Wood, Declan Shalvey, Ramon Perez and Jordie Bellaire.

Last year’s graphic novel and Tpb Top 10, was filled with some modern classics including Parker: The Outfit, Northlanders, Scott Pilgrim, and Beasts of Burden, so 2011’s offerings have a lot to live up to. As with last year’s this chart will only contain books released in 2011 that I have personally read.
1: Daytripper | Vertigo | Fábio Moon & Gabriel Bá
Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá can do no wrong, and Daytripper is their best and most personal work to date. The Brazilian twins tell the story, or rather stories, of writer Brás de Oliva Domingos; each chapter is a day in the life of Brás, with each day ending in the same way. Daytripper is one of the most poignant comics I have ever read, chapter 8 especially, which is odd as Brás is absent for that story. I look forward to seeing how Moon & Bá follow this. I should also...

Discovered in the Archives of The Jim Henson Company, Tale of Sand is an original graphic novel adaptation of an unproduced, feature-length screenplay written by Jim Henson and his frequent writing partner, Jerry Juhl. Tale of Sand follows scruffy everyman, Mac, who wakes up in an unfamiliar town, and is chased across the desert of the American Southwest by all manners of man and beast of unimaginable proportions. Produced with the complete supervision of Jim’s daughter, Lisa Henson, Tale of Sand will allow Henson fans to recognize some of the inspirations and set pieces that appeared in later Henson Company productions.
The book will be on sale in comic shops tomorrow in limited quantities, and on a wider basis on Jan. 17.

Last weekend would've been Jim Henson's 75th birthday, but the beloved Muppets creator's legacy continues to live on in various forms -- including an upcoming graphic novel based on one of his unproduced screenplays.
Archaia Entertainment debuted a 20-page preview of Jim Henson's Tale of Sand this week, offering fans their first look at the project.
Based on an unproduced screenplay co-written by Henson and his longtime collaborator Jerry Juhl, Tale of Sand chronicles the adventures of a man who wakes up in a strange town with no memory of who he is or how me got there. After he's kicked out into the desert, the man must cross the increasingly bizarre landscape while avoiding a mysterious figure that's pursuing him.
The story was developed from ideas Henson had while creating "Timepiece," his Oscar-nominated short film.

It’s been a busy year for the Toronto Cartoonists Workshop. The second volume of their flagship product, Holmes Incorporated, launched earlier this month – a comic book written, drawn, inked and lettered by students of the workshop. In the near future, the descendants of legendary detective Sherlock Holmes and Watson, have established an agency dedicated to solving the world’s most puzzling and dangerous mysteries.

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

With every comic book movie adaptation, there is a flood of new titles that showcase the soon-to-be silver screen hero. Captain America: The First Avenger will be no different, and in addition to the regular on-going series, this week saw the arrival of three different comics with the star-spangled hero headlining.
The least enticing of the bunch, admittedly aimed at readers 10 and younger, is Captain America: The Korvac Saga. Unless you are a major completionist, give this one a wide berth. Definitely a lot better and improving with each issue is Captain America: Hail Hydra. A four issue mini-series, that covers all the classic Cap time periods, threading in a unique take on the super-soldier serum. The best of the lot though is Captain America and the First Thirteen #1.
A one-shot, stand alone story that takes place during World War II, it features the creative talents of not one,...

Noted nerd Patton Oswalt called for the death of geek culture in a Wired piece this week and ruffled a few feathers. Jeff Parker sounds he's got the comedian and writer's back, however, and thinks geeks at large need to learn to take their criticism in stride.
And speaking of criticism, there's been no shortage of it mixed in with the compliments for "Tron: Legacy." More responses rolled out in the Twitter Report feed today, along with Eric Powell's reaction to Brett Favre's $50K fine, Kalman Andrasofszky's new webcomic idea and the identity of a confessed Spider-Man Snuggie owner.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for December 30, 2010.
@GerryDuggan Tron romanticized horrible arcades. The truth is back in the 80's they were filled with half-working machines, cigarette smoke & mustaches.

Penthouse founder and publisher Bob Guccione may not have been someone that comics creators talk about every day by name, but everyone seemed to know who he was this morning in the Twitter Report feed. Guccione reportedly died of cancer, as did former singer for the Slits Ari Up, who also showed up in today's posting, where they're commemorated by Ande Parks, Chris Onstad and John Allison.

A couple of comics luminaries fulfilled their dreams this week, as Brian Michael Bendis was recognized for calling in to Howard Stern's show and Bill Amend announced that he has completed the campaign mode in "StarCraft 2." Elsewhere, "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" continued to win over movie-goers, even if it didn't win in the weekend's box office rankings.
Accomplishments in creativity were recorded, too, as Mark Millar received something impressive from Leinil Yu and Simon Spurrier wedged something unique into a Marvel story he's been working on. Find out what that was after the jump along with a belated "Inception" appraisal.

I’m writing this from Wheatfield, Wyoming, in the middle of nowhere, a very small, cool town, on a road trip to celebrate the constantly changing state of being alive. This weekend I’ll be celebrating other things, as I wend my way to Seattle for Crypticon. I’ve never done this show before, but my experience of horror cons is that they’re even wilder than comic cons. Looking forward to this weekend in Seattle a lot, although it’s gonna be weird to meet all these new faces after a week of solitary traveling.
And it’s ironic to be going to Seattle for a horror convention, because the last time I was in Seattle, a few months ago, it was for a comics convention, and a little something extra which derailed my writing of this blog.
