New Delhi, April 11 (Ians) Soon after he revolutionised Indian film music with ‘Babul mora naihar’, top classical musicians, meeting in Calcutta, decided that Ustad Faiyyaz Khan, who had sung the thumri earlier, should tie a ritual thread to K. L. Saigal to signify discipleship. The Ustad wanted to meet the singer alone first, and after an hour, someone checked to find that both, in high spirits, were insisting on calling each other their ustad.
This was revealed by santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, who heard it from music director S. D. Burman, a disciple of top ustads then and an eyewitness, but a more attested incident is of the Ustad, doyen of the Agra Gharana, telling Saigal that he had nothing to teach him that would make him a greater singer.

Raj Kapoor Was Known For Throwing The Best Holi Parties & Here’s How Amitabh Bachchan Was Reborn ( Photo Credit – Yrf / YouTube )
The 70s saw the rise of one of the biggest superstars in this country. When Amitabh Bachchan was born, it was just a matter of a few years ago, and he rose to the top as the Angry Young Man of Bollywood. But then came a time when he hit rock bottom, and it was none other than Raj Kapoor who cheered him up at a Holi Party.
The showman was famous for his Holi parties in Bollywood. At one such party, he noticed a disheartened Big B standing aloof. While everyone was too busy enjoying the Holi festivities, none noticed how distressed the Deewar actor was.

Shivkumar Sharma, Hindustani classical musician and co-composer of several memorable Bollywood film soundtracks for the late Yash Chopra, died on Tuesday in Mumbai. He was 84.
Sharma, addressed by the honorific Pandit, had kidney related ailments for the past six months and eventually succumbed to a cardiac arrest.
Born in Jammu, Northern India, Sharma became a exponent of the classical instrument santoor. Already well known in Hindustani music circles, he shot to international prominence in 1967 when he recorded the album “Call of the Valley” alongside his long time collaborator flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia and guitarist Brij Bhushan Kabra for Emi.
While their classical music careers flourished, Sharma and Chaurasia also composed several Bollywood film soundtracks for eminent filmmaker Yash Chopra, beginning with “Silsila” (1981), starring Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Jaya Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar. Under the screen credit Shiv-Hari, they composed seven more soundtracks for Chopra including “Faasle” (1985). “Vijay” (1988) “Chandni” (1989) “Lamhe” (1991) “Parampara...

Yash Chopra was always in love with “love”. He portrayed love on the silver screen with the imagination of the purest lover, including shades of different phases of love in life. “Chandni” was released in 1989 and was one of the matured love triangles of Indian cinema of that period, crafted with some brilliant acting, cinematography and music, under the guidance of a class director. Though for me “ Lamhe” (1991) has been the best movie by Yash Chopra, “Chandni” was more appealing to the masses and became a big hit in the late eighties, making Sridevi a household name in India.
“Chandni” screened at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles
Beautiful and bubbly Punjabi girl Chandni ( Sridevi) meets Rohit ( Rishi Kapoor) in a marriage ceremony. Rohit falls for the charm of Chandni instantly and proposes for marriage. But the complications start due to the social differences of the two families, although the love story continues.

New Delhi -- The walls of Sanjay Sharma's music shop are lined with gleaming string instruments and old photographs of legendary musicians.
Beatles George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Indian classicial musicians Zakir Hussain, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Vishwamohan Bhatt. And the man who brought these two very different musical worlds together: Ravi Shankar.
Like his grandfather and father before him, Sharma built, tuned and repaired instruments for the sitar virtuoso, who introduced Westerners to Indian classical music, and through his friendship with Harrison became a mainstay of the 1960s counterculture scene.
From his tiny shop tucked into the crowded lanes of central Delhi's Bhagat Singh market, Sharma traveled the world with Shankar. Late in the maestro's life, as his health and strength flagged, he even designed a smaller version of the instrument that allowed him to keep playing.

Bollywood is getting hotter by the day. Actors are hitting the gym even at wee hours of the morning just to stay in shape. Therefore, we’ve compiled a list of the most drool-worthy bodies that Bollywood has seen in 2011. This should motivate some of us lazy people (myself included) to get back on track after a long holiday break.
Hrithik Roshan (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara)
Hrithik, of course, has made it on our list every year. His perfect chiseled looks made many a heart flutter in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which was an instant hit. Remember the first look of the movie and the Tomatina Festival? Last year a wax statue of the hottie was added to Madam Tussaud’s museum in London, which features a bare-chested Mr. A aka Aryan in the hit movie Dhoom 2.
