The death of movie producer Jc Spink has been ruled an accidental drug overdose by the Los Angeles Coroners Office. Spink, who shepherded titles like “The Hangover,” “We’re the Millers” and “A History of Violence” with partner Chris Bender, was found dead at his West Hollywood home in April. His autopsy report indicates his death was accidental and cited “multiple drug intoxication.” Also Read: The Big Heart of Jc Spink Remembered by Hollywood's Players Originally from Philadelphia, Spink was one half of Benderspink, the management-production company that he founded with Bender. In 1998, while I was living with my parents in New Jersey, Fox Searchlight offered me a small amount of money to rewrite a movie for them. When I came to Los Angeles for my first big notes meeting ever, Lisa Fragner, one of the Fox execs, said I should meet with a couple of her friends who were just starting a management company.
So one afternoon I went to Chris Bender's and J.C. Spink's house, which doubled as their office during the day. I thought that was cool, two friends that struck out on their own, started their own...

As much as I want to support Elizabeth Banks' endeavors jumping behind the camera, between her non-distinctive touch to Pitch Perfect 2 to her equally unremarkable short in Movie 43, I can't quite say I'm a fan of what she's brought to the table thus far. But I like to think of myself as a pretty open-minded guy, and maybe she can turn my opinion with what looks to be her sophomore feature, an adaptation of Victoria Aveyard's Ya novel "Red Queen". Banks currently is in negotiations to helm the project for Universal, called a mix between "Game of Thrones," X-Men, Cinderella and her own Hunger Games. This would be a much bigger production than the $29 million budgeted one she spearheaded before, but based on her sequel's impressive box office numbers (they've already greenlit Pitch Perfect 3 as well), she's likely got enough clout to get herself in the door.

It seems that Elizabeth Banks’ directorial outing on Pitch Perfect 2 was only a prelude. Sources say she is in negotiations to board the project, which has shades of Hunger Games, X-Men, Game of Thrones and Cinderella. The project would be a major step up for Banks as far as budget and scope for a visual effects–driven feature. Producing are Jake Weiner, Chris Bender and Jc Spink of Benderspink. Elizabeth Banks ("Pitch Perfect 2") is in negotiations to helm the film adaptation of the young adult novel "Red Queen" at Universal Pictures.
A blending of "Hunger Games," "Cinderella" and "X-Men," the story is set in a world divided by blood color with the 'elite' sporting silver blood and supernatural powers as opposed to regular people with red blood and no powers.
When a red blooded street urchin saves her best friend, she is brought before the king and queen, where she suddenly displays special powers. To hide this startling news, the king invents a past for her as a lost princess and sets her up to marry one of his sons.
She soon finds herself conflicted as she becomes part of the silver world while at the same time aiding a group plotting a red rebellion. Gennifer Hutchison adapted the script.

Hot on the heels of the success of Cinderella, it's time for the House of Mouse to turn another one of their animated hits into a live-action film. THR reports Disney is now developing a live-action retelling of Mulan, the Chinese legend about a female warrior who disguises herself as a man in order to go to war in place of her father. Writing duo Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek (in their first feature film deal) have been hired to script the first pass at the project, but there will likely be a rewrite by another more established scribe before it goes in front of cameras. It's great that they brought female writers on to start. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (of Benderspink) are producing the new adaptation, and it's a smart project for them to jump on board. "Alice In Wonderland," "Malificent," "Cinderella," "Beauty & The Best," "Dumbo"....Disney has certainly found what they think is a winning live-action formula, and frankly I'm just surprised they haven't tried to cram all of this into one shared universe. Either way, another animated movie from the Disney vault is getting a live-action redo. THR reports that "Mulan" is getting a remake. There's a script in place from Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek, and Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (who both worked on "We're The Millers") are producing. The original movie did decent business in 1998, earning $336 million worldwide, along with a Golden Globe nomination, and it spawned the 2005 sequel, "Mulan II," which went straight to DVD, and that Disney would probably prefer you just forget about. So it's proven itself once, and Disney is betting on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan working again. No word...

After the runaway success of its (fantastic) Cinderella adaptation, Disney is hard at work developing more live-action takes on its classic animated films. And with Beauty and the Beast already in the works with Emma Watson starring, the studio is currently mulling Mulan as its next live-action retelling.
Disney has picked up a script by writing duo Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek that centers on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, a female warrior and the focus of Disney’s 1998 animated hit. The pair don’t have any feature credits yet, but they wrote for the Know Theatre of Cincinnati and rewrote an Amazon Studios script.
Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We’re the Millers) are taking producing roles in the project, which is on the fast track as Disney works to capitalize on Cinderella‘s success. Since opening three weeks ago, the Lily James-starring pic has earned $336.2 million worldwide.

One more film has been added to Disney’s ever-growing list of live action reboots of their animated classics, and it isn’t Bambi starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
THR is reporting that Disney has purchased a script of a live action version of Mulan, their 1998 animated hit about a young Chinese woman who disguises herself as a man to go to war in place of her father.
Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek wrote the script, and Mulan is to be produced by Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We’re the Millers).
An adaptation of Mulan sounds like the best and arguably most difficult reimagining Disney has dreamed up yet. Mulan is the fiercest and most feminist charged of all the Disney princesses. The story itself deals with subject matter that couldn’t be more topical. But it’ll also be an opportunity to give an Asian American actress some...

Image Comics’ literary-haunting saga Five Ghosts is coming to Syfy, with big producers backing it…
We’re hardly living in a world barren of comic book adaptations on the telly, with Gotham, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Flash and Arrow all gracing our telly-boxes right now.
There’s also Constantine, the Marvel/Netflix Defenders universe, Titans and possibly more coming to our screens in the near future.
Now, Syfy are getting involved - as announced earlier this year, they're developing Five Ghosts as part of their ever-expanding roster. Based on the Image Comics run of the same name, this new TV series will follow the adventures of gifted treasure hunter Fabian Gray.
Fabian has the ability to draw on the abilities of some (unnamed but fairly obvious) ghosts from literary history, dubbed The Wizard, The Detective, The Archer, The Samurai and The Vampire.
