On Thursday morning, the director uploaded images from a camera test on Instagram, featuring Bale’s latest onscreen transformation into Frankenstein, along with his paramour, the eponymous bride (Buckley). The photos were taken by film photographer Niko Tavernise.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has offered the first look at The Bride!, revealing Christian Bale in character as Frankenstein’s monster and Jessie Buckley as the eponymous bride.
Gyllenhaal’s take on the Bride of Frankenstein also stars Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Bening. The plot sees “a lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
The Bride!, which marks Gyllenhaal’s second directorial effort, is scheduled to open in theaters on October 3rd, 2025.
Incidentally, it’s not the only Frankenstein movie in the works, as Guillermo del Toro is making his own version starring Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth.

Nerds of a particular disposition once had to seek out a little red book by Ruth S. Noel called “The Languages of Tolkien’s Middle Earth,” from which you could learn two of the seven writing systems and look up definitions in 14 of the 15 languages that J.R.R. Tolkien spent his life inventing. But the internet has increased the accessibility of many things and therefore increased the hunger for many things: among them fan wikis with definitions for every thrown-away word in a made-up language in every fantasy story ever written. Frank Herbert’s “Dune” is no different.
But it is one thing to pepper in some extra js and dhs and q-apostrophes to make certain words look fantastical to native English speakers and another thing entirely to create a language system that makes sense. This challenge is precisely the task facing linguists David and Jessie Peterson for “Dune: Part 2,” which...

At 28, Timothée Chalamet is five years older than he was when he shot Denis Villeneuve’s first iteration of “Dune” (2021), adapted by Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts from Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi saga, which Villeneuve had adored since his early teens and had the sense to split into two parts. That film ran 155 minutes and cost $165 million against a pandemic global gross of $404 million, controversially released day and date by Warner Bros. in theaters and on HBO Max. It scored 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won six craft categories.
Villeneuve, who mixes the sensitivity of an artist with the drive of an ambitious studio director, revels in big-scale epics like 2017’s “Blade Runner 2049” ($260 million worldwide). This time, with “Dune: Part Two,” he has the chance to smash a global blockbuster. Ten minutes longer than “Part One” and budgeted at $190 million, after strike delays, “Part Two” finally explodes in...

Dune: Part Two is that rare sequel that totally crushes expectations and bests its successful predecessor. Writer/director Denis Villeneuve transports audiences to Arrakis, delivering an enthralling experience through flawless special effects and the exceptional cinematography of Greig Fraser. The performances match the breathtaking visuals, making Dune: Part Two a captivating and immersive cinematic experience.
Wow, that’s a lot of adjectives, isn’t it? I’d also throw in spectacular and stunning or any of their various synonyms.
The film picks up immediately after the events of Dune: Part One. The year is 10191, and House Atreides has been wiped out, leaving House Harkonnen in control of the spice mining operations on Arrakis. The corrupt and greedy Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard) stands in stark contrast to the murdered Duke Leto Atreides. Under the Baron’s watchful eye,...

Rachel Weisz in ‘Dead Ringers’ (Photo Credit: Niko Tavernise/Prime Video)
As a horror fan, I was delighted that 2023 not only delivered some top-notch genre films but also that there were enough directed by women to create a 10 best list. Women created a diverse array of horror from psychological thrillers to over-the-top gore comedy to creature features. They looked beyond just final girls to create fascinating, flawed, and sometimes deeply disturbed characters.
I measure progress not by how many positive female characters we get on screen but rather by the diversity and depth of the women driving the stories we see. Kudos to the female talent in front of and behind the camera that created these bold, original works in 2023.

Interestingly but not surprisingly, the acclaimed director Martin Scorsese has used a very special combination to shoot the masterpiece ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. The movie was shot by his cinematic partner, Rodrigo Prieto Stambaugh, ASC, AMC, on the Arricam (St & Lt), combined with the Sony Venice and Scorsese’s own 1917 Bell & Howell.

Tom Hanks is Otto Anderson in Columbia Pictures A Man Called Otto. Photo by: Niko Tavernise Director Marc Forster has worked on plenty of high-profile films in the last couple of decades. He directed Halle Berry’s Oscar-winning performance in Monster’s Ball, he directed the seven-time Oscar-nominated film Finding Neverland, and he was the youngest director ever to make a James Bond movie (Quantum of Solace). His latest film is A Man Called Otto, starring Tom Hanks. And, after working with Hanks for the first time, Forster told us he’s 100% deserving of the title “living legend.” (Click on the media bar below to hear Marc Forster) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Marc_Foster_Tom_Hanks_A_Man_Called_Otto_.mp3 A Man Called Otto is now playing in theaters.

Tom Hanks stars as Otto in Columbia Pictures A Man Called Otto. photo by: Niko Tavernise With January coming to a close, the year’s fourth-biggest movie so far at the box office is A Man Called Otto, which has come as a surprise to many. After all, it’s not a Marvel movie, it’s not a sequel, and it’s not driven by CGI. And actually, that’s exactly why producer Rita Wilson thinks people have been going to see the movie in theaters, because instead of making a movie that dazzles the eyes, she says the film aims squarely at the heart. Tom Hanks is Otto Anderson in Columbia Pictures A Man Called Otto. Photo by: Niko Tavernise As Tom Hanks recently told us, A Man Called Otto is not the kind of movie that relies on special effects or contrived plot points. It’s the kind of story-driven film that Hanks loves to make; as Hanks has gotten more successful and more selective in the roles he’ll choose, he says he’s chosen films — like A Man Called Otto — that enhance his reputation as a storyteller. So, we’re almost a week into 2023 and all that holiday cheer is so…last year. What a perfect time for a film centering around an older fella’ who’s…well, a human version of the grinch, sans green fur and the larceny. And who’s taken on this role? It’s none other than the movie’s “Mr. Nice Guy’ himself, “America’s dad” (perhaps grandpa; now), and two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks. Hey. we all need to “shake things up” a bit, and get out of our “comfort zone”. But are his filmgoing fans ready to accept him as a real grouch Aka A Man Called Otto? Btw, this has no connection to A Fish Called Wanda or The Man Called Flintstone, in case you’re wondering.

Even if you’ve become one of the world’s biggest stars, that won’t erase the memories of holidays past, and that’s certainly the case with Tom Hanks. From Darren Aronofsky comes The Whale, the story of a reclusive English teacher who attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter. Starring Brendan Fraser and based on the acclaimed play by Samuel D. Hunter.
According to Deadline, “Fraser is now seen as a frontrunner in the best actor category of the Academy Awards.”
Sitting at 72 on Rotten Tomatoes, Fraser’s career has taken many turns, from blockbuster epics, beloved comedies, and a highly acclaimed role opposite Ian McKellen in the Oscar®-winning Gods and Monsters. But The Whale was something else entirely, with a set of demands that would make for a particularly courageous return to a major dramatic role. Fraser is open about the fact that he wrestled with doubts before production. “I admit I was intimidated. I had real fear going into this, but that just underlined for me the importance of digging...

Naomi Watts once again leads an American remake of an acclaimed international horror film. This time, she stars in an English language update of the 2014 Austrian horror movie by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, Goodnight Mommy. This remake may not drastically shake up the story, but it does alter its approach to psychological horror and serves as a solid introduction for the unacquainted.
Dad (Peter Hermann) drops twins Elias (Cameron Crovetti) and Lukas (Nicholas Crovetti) off at their mother’s countryside home for a stay. The boys are immediately taken aback when greeted by the heavily gauzed appearance of their Mother (Watts). While she apologizes, blaming a cosmetic procedure, it’s not just her covered head that leaves the twins on edge. Mother is quick to anger, and that’s only the beginning of her peculiar behavior that leaves Elias and Lukas suspicious that she’s not who she says she is.

Comedy and catastrophe collide in Don’t Look Up, the sly new feature from Adam McKay that has both a killer comet and a to-die-for cast. Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence take the lead as astronomy professor Randall Mindy and grad student Kate Dibiasky, who discover a Mount Everest–size orb headed straight for Earth. (Credit: Niko Tavernise/Netflix) With just six months until impact and the end of the world as we know it, the pair try to warn the masses, only to find the self-centered U.S. president and her nitwit son/chief of staff (Jonah Hill) hilariously unfazed by the news. Ironically, the film came together just as the real world was falling apart. “When the pandemic hit, it was probably the strangest six months of my life, seeing an actual disaster unfolding,” admits McKay. “I remember turning off the news one night and rereading the script.

Whatever you do, do not skip the postcredits of Don't Look Up! The movie, which is being released in theaters on Dec. 10 and is coming to Netflix on Dec. 24, is a satirical take on how the US approaches natural disasters from the perspectives of scientist Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), his astronomy graduate student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), President Orlean (Meryl Streep), Orlean's son and chief of staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), journalists, and civilians. Ultimately, after not listening to scientists like Randall and Kate, a meteoroid wipes out planet Earth.
Honestly, we all saw that coming. But a scene in the postcredits of Don't Look Up takes it a step further and shows what happens next. People on social media often joke about how Jeff Bezos and other millionaires are visiting space to scope out their second home - and that's exactly where the movie goes.

What if the world did not respond the way it always does in every disaster movie to an impending doomsday invasion, meteor or – comet? What if the real world faced a giant “planet-killer” comet on a collision course with Earth? Would they come together to save the planet, like they always do in the movies? That is the question Oscar-winning director/writer Adam McKay (The Big Short) asks in his satiric comedy Don’T Look Up.

(This post contains Spoilers for Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7” on Netflix)
Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7” is loaded with moments that will make you laugh, cheer or be outraged. But one of the film’s most alarming moments comes when Bobby Seale, the Black Panther party leader as portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is ordered bound and gagged in his courtroom seat by judge Julius Hoffman.
The scene is a horrifying moment of racial injustice and prejudice that finally boiled over after numerous scenes of Seale being denied his rights, representation and more. It’s such an outrageous sight in a movie that prides itself on its accuracy that it begs the question, was Seale really bound and gagged in the way the movie suggests?
The truth is, yes, Seale was tied to his chair and gagged in full view of the jury,...

It’s such an outrageous sight in a movie that prides itself on its accuracy that it begs the question, was Seale really bound and gagged in the way the movie suggests?
The truth is, yes, Seale was tied to his chair and gagged in full view of the jury,...

You’d think that a bunch of Yippies nominating a 145-pound pig, cheekily dubbed “Pigasus,” for president would need showcasing, but Aaron Sorkin is of a different mind. The venerable writer/director’s criminally pigless picture, The Trial of the Chicago 7, focuses instead on the eponymous group’s protracted trial following its heavy involvement in anti-war protests in ’60s Chicago.
Fiery bellies and a gravitational pull toward positive change drove these men to become ardent faces of a festering distaste for the United States’ wartime priorities. And Sorkin’s searing film does a decent job driving that earnestness home. It may skimp on necessary emotional beats and become more innocuous than it intends, but there’s an undeniable relevance to Sorkin’s latest effort that ultimately makes it a worthy expenditure of cognitive juice.

(This post contains Spoilers for “The Trial of the Chicago 7” on Netflix and directed by Aaron Sorkin)
The first trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s rousing and inspiring courtroom drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7” features a rallying cry that seems tailor-made for the protests that have engulfed the 2020 election and the Black Lives Matter protests around the globe: “The whole world is watching.”
The phrase repeats several times in the trailer and during the film as we see protestors clashing with Chicago police outside of the Hilton Hotel at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. In fact, the chant is so powerful in the trailer that at the premiere drive-in event for “The Trial of the Chicago 7” at the Rose Bowl Netflix held on Tuesday, the chant was repeated on speakers on a loop every few seconds before the screening began.

Netflix has debuted the first trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s star-studded feature ‘The Tail of the Chicago 7’.
What was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest—including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale—were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.

Hollywood union publicists have selected Warner Bros.’ “Joker” and Disney’s “The Mandalorian” as winners of the Maxwell Weinberg Awards for top publicity campaigns last year.
The awards were announced Friday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton by the International Cinematographers Guild Publicists.
“Joker” won the feature film award and topped the publicity teams behind Netflix’s “The Irishman,” Universal’s “Us,” Sony’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” Paramount’s “Rocketman” and Disney-Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.” The Joaquin Phoenix vehicle was a smash with more than $1 billion in global box office along with receiving 11 Academy Award nominations.
The first season of Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian” took the television awards over the campaigns for “Catch 22,” “Fosse/Verdon,” “Pose,” and “Stranger Things.”

Oh, the irony! I’ve been covering Hollywood industry awards as a journalist for 30 years and now I’m nominated for the Press Award bestowed by Hollywood’s leading PR guild: Icg Publicists. It’s so gracious of them – thank you, huzzahs to all – but now I’ll get a toxic dose of what I report on all the time: nominee jitters.
Uh-oh: do my Hollywood industry peers really, really like me? Should I campaign aggressively? Rent out billboards on Sunset Boulevard? What should I wear on Feb. 7 when the winner is revealed at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in the same room where the Golden Globes are doled out?
Lucky for me, I know the drill. I’ve been nominated, and lost, twice in the past. Only 16 more defeats and I’ll be the Susan Lucci of the Publicists’ Award! So, please, save me: spread the word across town — Vote for Tom!
