Vampires might be immortal (unless they step out into the sunlight ... or they get set on fire ... or you stab a pointed wooden stake through their heart ... or you chuck holy water on them ... maybe we need to come up with a different word than "immortal"?), but TV shows, alas, are not -- not even our favorite ones. So it is that the sun will soon rise on "What We Do in the Shadows," the wonderfully weird and queer -- not to mention often gory and always horny -- supernatural horror-comedy mockumentary series spun off from the cult film of the same name.
Like so many other ongoing shows, "What We Do in the Shadows" was set to begin production on its latest season this year ... that is, of course, before the major American studios and streamers decided they would rather bring the film and TV industry to a standstill...

Last year, FX ordered two more seasons of their vampire comedy series What We Do in the Shadows, which would be the fifth and sixth seasons of the show. Season 5 started airing back in July and wrapped up at the end of August, and we can expect to see season 6 sometime next year. Unfortunately, there’s now a bittersweet edge to knowing that season 6 is on the way, as The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that the sixth season of What We Do in the Shadows will also be the show’s last.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX “will bring its comedy What We Do in the Shadows to a close with its sixth season. The series is entering the back half of a two-season renewal that will take the show to its conclusion.“

The series, created by Jemaine Clement based on his and Taika Waititi’s 2014 film of the same name, premiered in 2019. In mockumentary format, it follows the nightly exploits of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), and their vampire bureaucrat acquaintance, the Guide (Kristen Schaal).
Season 5, which concluded in August, sees Nandor feel Guillermo slipping away as he seems to be spending much more time with Laszlo, whose skills as a gentleman scientist are put to the test as he tries to solve the mystery of the strange and very secret changes Guillermo is going through.

Spoiler Alert: This contains spoilers from FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows” Season 5, Episode 7 now streaming on Hulu.
The human-animal hybrid has been done countless times before, so when “What We Do in the Shadows” prosthetics designer Paul Jones was tasked with bringing some hybrid creatures to the FX comedy, his approach was “to ground the designs in something that was realistic, and not funny.”
The latest episode, aptly titled “Hybrid Creatures,” sees Laszlo’s (Matt Berry) experiments yield some new results.
Over the course of the season, the Staten Island vampire has been curious as to why Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) — after taking things into his own hands finally to become a vampire — has had trouble transforming. It’s taking far too long, weeks in fact, and Guillermo can still go out in broad daylight.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “What We Do in the Shadows” Season 5, Episode 7.
There’s an unofficial rule on the set of “What We Do in the Shadows:” no fully CGI characters. So when Paul Jones, the series’ longtime prosthetics and animatronics designer, heard that there would be an episode filled with hybrid Guillermo creatures, he knew he was in for a challenge.
“Paul [Simms] knew right away that this was a lot of work for anybody, and he was able to schedule that toward the end of filming. I actually had probably about eight weeks lead up to it,” Jones told TheWrap.
That eight-week runway allowed for a lot of testing on one of the wildest episodes of the FX comedy series. All season long, Laszlo (Matt Berry) has been experimenting on Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), trying to determine what it means that his housemate is both a vampire...

This article does not spoil plot points What We Do In The Shadows season 5 episode 7, but reveals how certain special effect scenes are done.
The title of What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 7 “Hybrid Creatures” gives away the guest stars who hide their true selves behind bleats, ribbits, and floor-burning flatulence. Laszlo (Matt Berry) deems his experiments to slow vampiric progression a failure, and orders scientific containment. Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), the one evolving into a vampire, is the container. He is given a sidearm to dispatch of the monstrosities created when science gets mad.
To understand the workings of the former familiar’s curious evolution, and a few giggles, Laszlo has been splicing Guillermo’s DNA with stray animals. We’ve already seen Guillermo’s face on levitating frogs, but now there is a whole litter to be cleaned. The vampires have an infestation of Guillermo-things, and there...

“What We Do in the Shadows” will soon come screeching back to our TV screens as season five will premiere next month on July 13. But before that, season four will hope to have secured some well-earned Emmy nominations. The mockumentary vampire comedy show was created by Jermaine Clement and is based on his and Taika Waititi‘s 2014 film of the same name. It follows four vampires living together in modern-day New York City — Matt Berry‘s Laszlo, Kayvan Novak‘s Nandor, Natasia Demetriou‘s Nadja, and Mark Proksch‘s Colin Robinson. But while the vampires are the stars of the show, the unsung hero is Harvey Guillén as Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo.
Guillermo has hoped to be made into a vampire since season one but instead has remained his master’s long-suffering familiar. While the vampire actors get to hilariously ham it up as people from different time periods, Guillén is the grounding factor.

FX has launched the trailer for the fifth season of its mockumentary comedy series ‘What We Do in the Shadow.’
The fifth season picks up after Nandor feels his familiar (and sometimes friend) Guillermo slipping away as he seems to be spending much more time with Laszlo.
Laszlo’s skills as a gentleman scientist are put to the test as he tries to solve the mystery of the strange and very secret changes Guillermo is going through.
Guillermo himself is struggling with his vampire transformation after previously asking his friend Derek to finally turn him into one.
Nadja, suffering the effects of a previously-undiagnosed supernatural hex, reconnects with her family – or at least, a family – from the Old Country.
Colin pursues the path of so many energy vampires before him by running for political office, and The Guide tries to figure out where she fits in as the newcomer to this tightly-knit group.

The trailer for the fifth season of What We Do in the Shadows reveals that Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) does get turned into a vampire, as he has so long desired, or so he thinks.
After season four ended with Guillermo offering Derek (Chris Sandiford) money for the latter to make him immortal, the trailer for the upcoming fifth season shows Derek carrying out his request and biting Guillermo’s neck. However, it seems Guillermo is not able to access his new powers.
“I thought the transformation would be overnight but it’s been 16 days. I can’t turn into a bat yet,” he says as footage plays of him jumping off the porch and saying “bat,” like Laszlo (Matt Berry) does, but nothing happens: He just hits the ground.
Later Laszlo encourages Guillermo to leap off the balcony inside the house, causing Guillermo to fall flat on his face.

FX is celebrating Pride Month this year by giving fans a first look at their favorite queer vampires. The channel has released the trailer for Season 5 of “What We Do in the Shadows,” the critically-acclaimed sitcom adaptation of the mockumentary film.
Released in 2014, the original “What We Do in the Shadows” was directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who also starred in the film as immortal vampires living in suburban New Zealand. The show, which premiered in 2019, takes the basic premise but translates it to America, following another household of vampires living on Staten Island. The roommates in the show include former emperor Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), married couple Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Laszlo (Matt Berry), boring energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén).

Dark greetings are in order for Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) as it appears everyone’s favorite familiar is undergoing some unusual transformations in the Season 5 trailer for What We Do in the Shadows. Set to return Thursday, July 13 on FX, the offbeat comedy from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi continues the story of vampire roommates, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch). All the while, Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo is continuing to keep up appearances while he tries figuring out what’s going on with himself after paying his pal (and vampire) Derek (Chris Sandiford) to bite him. Roughly a month ahead of its return, “What We Do in the Shadows” has released its Season 5 trailer. The first two episodes are set to stream on FX on Hulu Thursday, July 13. After that, the series will return to a weekly release schedule.
Last season ended with Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), a longtime familiar and heir to the vampire-killing Hellsing family, paying the hapless vampire Derek (Chris Sandiford) to secretly turn transform him into an undead monster. That’s exactly where Season 5 picks up. As Guillermo navigates his new and lackluster vampiric powers, he’ll also have to hide what he’s done from his roommates, friends and master.
“I thought the transformation would be overnight, but it’s been 60 days,” Guillermo says in the trailer. “I can’t even turn into a bat.”
Dejected after trying and failing, he finally stands upright and says, “Human form.”

“What We Do in the Shadows” is in the hunt for more Emmy nominations this year after racking up a healthy collective 17 bids for its past three seasons.

The electric chemistry between Rick and Ilsa in "Casablanca" is the stuff of cinematic legend. Thanks to the lead performances from Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, the 1943 romantic drama is remembered as a gem of classic Hollywood, its reputation only growing in the 80 years since its initial release. But although the two leads deserve a lion's share of the credit for the success of the film, the devastating love triangle could never have been carried off half as well without the efforts of its third wheel, Victor Laszlo, played by Paul Henreid. An Austrian-born actor who took Hollywood by storm in the early 1940s, his contributions to the role give it an essential sense of balance -- without his commanding presence, the entire romantic equilibrium would be thrown out of whack.
Convincing A Leading Man To Take A Supporting Role
Getting Paul Henreid to take on the role of Victor Laszlo was no small thing.

What We Do in the Shadows gets a major infusion in season 4. Baby Colin, or “the thing which crawled out of the dead Colin Robinson’s chest cavity,” is a fount of fresh blood. He is a new take on an old character, who also energizes the cast around him, for now. Laszlo (Matt Berry), who passed on a chance to revisit the world to raise the budding energy vampire, is also the same hedonistic scatterbrain who lets the child explore dark gas leaks with lit candles. Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) almost learns to discern the baby from a raccoon. Nandor (Kayvan Novak), well, really doesn’t care, as long as Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) cleans up after all the messes.
This is undeath as usual on Staten Island.
In the season 3 finale, the main cast was thrown asunder to the world to embark on adventures beyond the vampire house which binds them.

"What We Do In The Shadows" may follow four variably inept vampires that live together in Staten Island, but one of the fab vamp four is quite unlike the others. While Nandor (Kayvan Novak) and lovers Laszlo (Matt Berry) and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) are the standard bloodthirsty variety, Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) is a rare energy vampire. Energy vampires drain the life force of their prey through eliciting various emotions, such as boredom or sadness, but are little understood even among their fellow vampires.

Romantic relationships can be tough. Romantic relationships that last for centuries are potentially much, much tougher. But on the FX vampire comedy series "What We Do in the Shadows," love is easy for two of its eternal paramours. Vampires Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Laszlo (Matt Berry) have ups and downs like any couple, but they're always fighting for the same team: their partnership. Whether they're working together to put on a vampire orgy, fighting against witches, or raising a baby Colin Robinson together, they do it with love and patience for one another. Many couples on TV are constantly at odds, creating comedic...
