Faye Webster, the War on Drugs, and David Byrne and Devo have contributed tracks to the second Noise for Now benefit compilation, which will raise money for independent abortion providers across the country via the Keep Our Clinics campaign.
The album announcement pointedly coincides with the return of abortion rights to the Supreme Court today, March 26. The court will hear arguments for a case regarding the availability and accessibility of mifepristone, an Fda-approved drug that’s frequently used in abortions. Brittany Howard has shared another single, “Prove It to You,” ahead of her upcoming studio album What Now.
“My next song is one I’m really proud of,” Howard captioned a TikTok teasing the song last week. “It’s different than anything I’ve ever done but felt like a cornerstone of the new record. The band and I are excited to perform this one live for you all.”
On “Prove It to You,” which Howard co-produced with returning collaborator Shawn Everett, the Alabama Shakes singer goes full-on house. It’s backed by a chugging four-on-the-floor beat and a deep, heavy bass, as Howard takes on the persona of a disco diva: “Every time I try it comes out incomplete,” she sings, lamenting her inability to adequately express her love for her partner. “All I wanna do is prove it to you.”
Watch the lyric video for “Prove It to You” below.

13 October 2023 – Brittany Howard, the five-time Grammy Award®-winning powerhouse shares the first single and video off her forthcoming solo album, What Now. The title track is a thriller of a song and offers a taste of what to expect on the full-length. “What Now” was written and produced by Brittany with co-production from Shawn Everett (Kacey Musgraves, Sza), with whom she has a longstanding creative relationship since Alabama Shakes. Recording took place at the legendary Sound Emporium and historic RCA Studio B in Nashville, Brittany’s hometown. The accompanying cinematic and action-packed video was directed by Danilo Parra (known for his work with A$AP Rocky) and produced by Adam Braun (070 Shake, P!Nk).
“What Now” takes on a potent urgency fueled by its syncopated grooves, blistering guitar riffs, and fiercely honest lyrics (“I’ve been making plans that don’t include you anymore/My heart wants to stay but...

Brittany Howard has readied her second solo album, What Now. Along with the news, she’s shared the record’s title track, and announced a new run of tour dates for 2024.
What Now marks Howard’s first release on Island Records, which she signed to back in September. There’s no release date for the project as of yet, but based on its title track’s lyrics (“I’ve been making plans that don’t include you anymore/ My heart wants to stay but I don’t know what for”), the record signifies a time of transition.
“‘What Now’ is maybe the truest and bluest of all the songs,” Howard said of the single. “It’s never my design to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I needed to say what was on my mind without editing myself. I like how it’s a song that makes you want to dance,...

Brittany Howard has announced a handful of tour dates in North America for Fall 2023. The announcement coincides with her signing to Island Records.
After hitting Bourbon & Beyond Festival in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend, Howard’s live shows will resume in November, where she’ll kick things off in Birmingham, Alabama on the 6th. From there, she’ll make stops in Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas throughout the month, before wrapping things up at Corona Capitol Festival in Mexico City on November 17th. L’Rain will be supporting Howard on a few of the dates.
The Alabama Shakes member hasn’t put out a solo album since her 2019 LP Jaime — released via Ato — but the news of her joining Island means we can likely expect some new music imminently. Howard said in a press release: “I couldn’t be happier to announce my new partnership with Island Records, a label...

Track by Track is a recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through every song on their latest release. Today, Becca Mancari takes us through their latest record, Left Hand.
Becca Mancari returns today with their third full-length album, Left Hand. A collection of tracks journeying through love, queerness, family, and trauma, Left Hand may have been born from despair, but it always strives towards hope.
Over delicate, indie pop instrumentation, Mancari’s vocals imbue their songs with a certain vulnerability. On their follow-up to 2020’s The Greatest Part, they mine from their tumultuous relationship with their family, the harmful experiences from their past, and the grey area of reconciling with people who have hurt them, all while maintaining a tangible sense of love and empathy.
“I know for me, my mom getting cancer really made me stop and see her… even though she hurt me so badly when...

Jack Tatum has readied Hold, his first album as Wild Nothing in five years. The record arrives October 27th via Captured Tracks, and along with it comes a North American tour slated for this fall. Additionally, Wild Nothing has shared the new song “Headlights On” featuring Hatchie, which you can listen to below.
Self-produced by Tatum and mixed by Geoff Swan, Hold features contributions from Molly Burch, Becca Mancari, Tommy Davidson of Beach Fossils, Hatchie, and Tatum’s his wife, Dana. A press release describes the record as more electronic and dance-inspired than Wild Nothing’s previous releases, and the artist spoke anxiously about releasing it (and finally following 2018’s Indigo) in a statement.
“I’ve sat with this record for a very long time now, so naturally I’m both excited and apprehensive to let it see the light,” Tatum said. “It’s my first record as a father.

Becca Mancari has shared “Don’t Even Worry,” another single from their upcoming album Left Hand that features Brittany Howard. Listen to the artists’ friendship anthem below.
Mancari and Howard are best friends and Bermuda Triangle bandmates, and “Don’t Even Worry” is about the love they (and any close friends) share. The track “started as two best friends hanging out, exploring what it would be like to write and produce a song together,” Mancari explained. “After a night of simply enjoying whatever flowed out, Brittany sent me a 1-minute instrumental track that I started building melodies and words over. As I sat with the music, I kept hearing this phrase, ‘Don’t even worry, I got you!’”
“This song, to me, is an anthem of the deep bond of friendship that Brittany and I have; she is my chosen family who has been with me every step of the way in my musical journey,...

Becca Mancari has readied a new album called Left Hand. The artist’s third solo LP arrives August 25th via Captured Tracks, while lead single “Over and Over” is out now.
Mancari has been a beloved figure in the Nashville indie rock scene for a while now, frequently collaborating with local figureheads Julien Baker and Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Zac Farro. When they released their last album, 2020’s The Greatest Part, they were named a Consequence Artist of the Month. That success, of course, doesn’t excuse the artist from the traumas of life. Left Hand was made in the aftermath of a family illness, as well as Mancari coming to terms with an unhealthy dependence on alcohol.
“I didn’t realize it then, but looking back, I was a passenger in my own life,” Mancari said in a statement. “Producing this record was life-giving. It was scary, at first,...

Radical joy and consistent action were the messages at Nashville’s Love Rising benefit concert on Monday, an event that drew supporters to the city’s downtown Bridgestone Arena. Hosted by Drag Race alumna Asia O’Hara and featuring performances by Hayley Williams, Hozier, Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, Maren Morris, Allison Russell, Joy Oladokun, and Nashville’s drag artists — among many others — the concert raised money for four Tennessee organizations working to fight the state government’s ongoing legislative attacks against the LGBTQ+ community.

As Tennessee lawmakers attempt to push some members of the LGBTQ+ community out of the public sphere, Jason Isbell and Allison Russell organized Love Rising, a joyous fundraising event that offered support for those under attack. The March 21st concert hosted sets by Sheryl Crow, Brittany Howard, Julien Baker, Hozier, several members of country supergroup The Highwomen, and more, including Hayley Williams with the live debut of “Inordinary” and a cover of Deana Carter’s “Did I Shave My Legs for This?”
The fundraiser benefited Tennessee Equality Project, inclusion tennessee, OUTMemphis, The Tennessee Pride Chamber, and The Looking Out Foundation, which offered to double any donations it received up to $100,000. Donations remain open and ongoing.
Love Rising came as a response to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signing a law on March 2nd that lumped “male and female impersonators” with “topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, [and] strippers,” as a group banned...

During a performance at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, Paramore’s Hayley Williams showcased a dynamic cover of Deana Carter’s hit Nineties single “Did I Shave My Legs for This?,” off the country singer’s debut album of the same name.

This evening, The Tonight Show will feature a musician who, about three weeks ago, was ready to start looking for a new job. Thad Cockrell will perform his song “Swingin’,” with some remote accompaniment from the Roots, in a performance that was booked because Jimmy Fallon happened to be buying a light switch at the right hardware store at the right time.

Hayley Williams performed three songs from her solo album Petals for Armor live for the first time for the latest installment of NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert.
For the mini-set — recorded in Williams’ home — the Paramore singer played “Pure Love,” “Taken,” and “Dead Horse” alongside a band that included Becca Mancari and Julien Baker.
“I’ve never done this without Paramore,” Williams admits during the performance; Petals for Armor, written during a period of self-imposed isolation, arrived amid the coronavirus pandemic, preventing the singer from touring behind the LP.
