“My mouth is the Don King of my penis,” John Mayer once wrote on Twitter. We don’t totally know what it means, but it sounds vulgar and gives our brain the bad touch. And that, dear friends, is the general sensation we get when reading John Mayer quotes! They’re so confounding, we bet they even make Charlie Sheen scratch his head in bewilderment. Whether he’s describing his past sexual conquests, what it means to be a man, or even what it is that makes him so damn popular, Johnny has found ways of pissing people off left and right with his loose lips. Everyone remembers his infamous 2010 Rolling Stone profile, but the guitar hero has had a way with words much longer than that. He has since apologized for “those dumb interviews,”…but not for breaking Taylor Swift’s heart. John turns 35 years old today, and he...

Ding ding! Round three! We’ve been following the progress of unlikely old-timers boxing comedy Grudge Match since word of the project first surfaced in October 2010. It took until July of this year for Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone to start circling the roles of retired pugilists stepping back into the ring, and yet more time for them to commit and for Warner Bros. to ring the bell to start work on the film. But ring it has, with Peter Segal still aboard to referee/direct the thing and Think Like A Man’s Kevin Hart now cast as the Don King-style fight promoter who arranges the fight card. The film’s script, meanwhile, has been beaten into shape (or submission – it remains to be seen which) by Entourage creator Doug Ellin on a screenwriter-for-hire gig.Our money’s still on Stallone winning this one, even if De...

The latest trailer for Laika stop-motion animated 3D adventure ParaNorman is out, and it’s got a creepier edge than the earlier trailers, which were much lighter. The Focus Features movie about little Don King-haired 11-year-old Norman Babcock — a boy who sees dead people and battles zombies — opens wide this Friday.
“The witch’s curse is real! And you’re the one who has to stop it!” shouts Norman’s Uncle Prenderghast, voiced by John Goodman.
“Me? No, you must have it wrong,” meekly replies Norman, voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In and The Road). Scariness ensues.

One-man show gets off to a surprisingly good start before going off the rails when Tyson tries to talk about women he's known
Mike Tyson's one-man show, Undisputed Truth – or Undisputed Troof, in his lisping, snuffling delivery – is a very weird production. Written by Tyson's third wife Kiki and directed by Spike Lee, it opened Thursday night on Broadway after transferring from Las Vegas. Donald Trump was in the audience, and the baseball star Derek Jeter, and an odd combination of big men with thick necks and skinny hipsters unsure of what to do when Tyson starts throwing the word "faggot" around. To give you an idea: two of the biggest cheers of the night go up for "I didn't rape this woman" and "I lost 150lbs."
Firstly, the show's inbuilt drama – can Tyson carry almost two hours of wordy monologue without a prompter, and the answer is yes.

On this week’s episode of The Walking Dead the long simmering relationship between Rick and Shane finally became physical. No, the show’s central love triangle did not become a ménage à trois, as much as that might have pleased slash fiction devotees. Rather the pair beat the hell out of each other in what I’m going to call “The Jackpot in the Parking Lot.” (Okay, that’s garbage. Oh, where is Don King when you need him?)

Fresh off picking up a BAFTA for outstanding debut for Tyrannosaur, his first feature as director, Paddy Considine has confirmed that he will be adapting Jon Hutton's book, The Years Of The Locusts, for his next stint as director. Set in world of professional body building, the book is based on the true story of amateur boxing promoter Rick "Elvis" Parker and his loyal, but naive, fighter Tim Anderson. It is a story of intrigue, paranoia and murder, as Rick tries to set himself up as the next Don King. Considine is also writing a ghost story called The Leaning, and will next be seen, acting wise, in Now Is Good and Girl On A Bicycle. Source: Deadline...

After proving himself to be a bold new directing talent with last year’s storming Tyrannosaur (which scooped the Outstanding Debut award at the BAFTAs this past weekend and is out now on DVD), Paddy Considine is now looking towards his next stint behind the camera. And he’s confirmed that he’s hard at work adapting Jon Hotten’s book The Years Of The Locust. Hotten dropped word of Considine’s interest in his blog last year and now, talking to Deadline on the BAFTA red carpet, Considine said that he is indeed cranking out the script.Locust is a true story of murder, money, intrigue and paranoia set in the world of professional bodybuilding. Sizzling in the heat of the 1990’s Deep South, the plot finds two characters – sociopathic door-to-door salesman Rick “Elvis” Parker and his loyal, incorruptible fighter Tim Anderson as they get caught up in a trail of fixed fights,...

Living in a smaller market that doesn’t typically get access to slightly esoteric pleasures — such as foreign films in a theatrical environment — one of 2011′s biggest cinematic misses for yours truly was Paddy Considine‘s feature directing debut, Tyrannosaur. I, unfortunately, still have to wait a couple of months for that one to be on my Netflix queue, but that doesn’t mean I can’t already look forward to his recently confirmed follow-up, The Years of the Locust.
After grabbing a Best Debut by a British Director, Writer or Producer award at the BAFTAs this very evening, Considine announced that, for his next turn behind the camera, he’ll be adapting Jon Hotten‘s book, which takes a look at “the world of professional body building.” Enticing, but not entirely new; this has been public knowledge since he revealed it in an Empire web chat at the end of September,...

Mount Vernon, N.Y. — Heavy D was remembered with laughter and tears Friday during a star-studded funeral service that included Jay-z and Will Smith, humorous anecdotes from longtime friend Diddy, and words of encouragement for the late rapper's family, delivered in a letter from President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers," read the note from the Obamas, according to the Rev. Al Sharpton, who quoted from it during the service.
Xea Myers, Heavy D's 11-year-old daughter, also spoke briefly, telling the audience that her father was "still here, not in the flesh, but in the spirit."
Grace Baptist Church was filled to capacity for the two-and-half-hour service, which was also streamed live on the Web.

Boxer Chuck Wepner inspired Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky" films -- and the fact that he never got a cut of the billion-dollar franchise inspired him to sue. Both events inspired "The Real Rocky," the entertaining Espn documentary that gives the colorful Wepner the chance to finally get his due. The specific event that led to Stallone's Oscar-winning "Rocky" movie was Wepner's 1975 fight against Muhammad Ali. A 40-to-1 underdog, Wepner had put together an uneven record. Anthony Mackie first gained acclaim for his turn as a bomb squad member in "The Hurt Locker." In the new film "Real Steel," out in theaters this weekend, the actor plays Finn, a cocky boxing promoter who plays an important role in Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo's lives. TooFab's Lawrence Yee spoke with Mackie about his inspiration for the role and why he thinks the current state of boxing is a joke. TooFab: This role is a real departure from some of your heavier former roles. What attracted you to this project? Mackie: I really wanted to work with [director] Shawn Levy , who I've been tracking since the first "Night at the Museum." I love boxing. I was so excited by the idea of capturing this world. I feel like a lot of movies rely on CGI and the audience leaves asking "where's the story?" Real Steel is a great family story as well.

Billy Corben is a bit of a badass in the documentary game. Through his Miami-based media studio Rakontur, he produces down-and-dirty docs on everything from college sports to cocaine. I really dug it, and you will too, so see it at New York's Landmark Sunshine Cinema while you still can.

Muhammad Ali: The Greatest (2001) Direction and narration: Carlos Larkin Muhammad Ali Growing up in the 1970s, the specter of heavyweight boxer Muhammad Ali — whom I could never stand — was everywhere. Contrary to opinions voiced about him post-Parkinson's Disease, Ali was the most despised athlete of that era. The most beloved was actually soccer superstar Pelé. Nonetheless, from that time on a raft of mediocre documentaries-cum-hagiographies have been made of the man. Not surprisingly, none has gotten to that rotten core. Here are three that I've recently watched in consecutive order: Muhammad Ali: The Greatest, Muhammad Ali: Made in Miami, and Muhammad Ali a.k.a. Cassius Clay. The first documentary I streamed was Carlos Larkin's Muhammad Ali: The Greatest (2001) — not to be confused with William Klein's 1969 Ali documentary of the same title. Of the aforementioned trio, The Greatest is undoubtedly the most hagiographical, as the...

But the best show on the flailing channel is easily Oprah 25: Behind The Scenes, an incredibly rewarding peek into Oprah’s life at her production company and what went into the final season of Oprah’s talk show. Poor Pedro Almodóvar. His new movie, The Skin I Live In, is suitably lush and twisted, but especially after the Lars von Trier Nazi fiasco yesterday, the press conference after the well-received screening was restrained to the point of snooziness. Even Almodóvar's famous shock of hair looked relatively tame this morning, a little less Don King than usual. Sitting up there with his key actors (Antonio Banderas, Marisa Paredes and Elena Anaya, among others) and his brother/producer Agustín Almodóvar, he looked like a polite schoolboy in his green jacket and striped polo shirt.

Dinner planning: It's the bane of every five o'clock shopper who can't bear to serve up frozen pizza one more night. Now, with the help of some spooky video analytics, Intel and Kraft aim to help harried shoppers come up with better--or at least different--solutions, right in their grocery aisles.
Debuting at this week's 2011 National Retail Federation show (along with an amazing checkout counter of the future from Adidas), The "Meal Planning Solution," part of Intel's "Connected Store," is a sort of kiosk you might find in an upscale suburban market, catering to families desperate to find something the kids will eat.

Comedienne Roseanne Barr has very fond memories of the time she spent with boxing champ Mike Tyson in Las Vegas immediately following his release from prison in 1995.
The fighter spent three years of a six-year sentence behind bars after he was convicted of raping Desiree Washington in 1992 and when he got out he insisted that his first TV interview should be with Roseanne, who had a show at the time.
Barr recalls, "He called me up and he's like, 'You're the only person that I wanna tell my story to...' I went to Mike's house in Las Vegas and spent all day with him and we had the greatest talks."
But when the cameras stopped rolling and Tyson's manager Don King took the pair shopping at Caesar's Palace, Barr realised the boxer was nothing like the convicted thug he was often portrayed as.
She adds, "We walked through the mall and I was behind Mike, so I got to see the looks on the people that approached him and it wasn't like nothing (sic) you'd ever see for any other star... It was just like, 'Mike...' love, love, love, and Mike was so good and kind to everybody. It just kind of blew me away... I really liked Mike.
"He went into Versace... and he spent $25,000 on towels. I never saw anything like it. It was awesome. That's when he had some money."...

The idea of a social media game based on such a spectacularly bloody franchise as Starz' "Spartacus" series seems, at first, counterintuitive. But Starz Digital Media's new "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" game for Facebook doesn't attempt to exactly replicate the very visceral, guts, gore, and steel esthetic that makes the TV show so immediately titillating.
Rather than get your hands dirty as a gladiator, here you play as a "lanista," or manager of gladiators, pitting your best men against other players and trying to Don King your way to the top. Anyone who watches the show knows there is as much dirty-dealing and backstabbing behind the scenes of the gladiator school as there is, well, front stabbing in the arena. If, as co-developer 6waves' website suggests, the game can recall even a hint of that intrigue, "Spartacus" could be a worthy enough time-suck.
The game's beta launches today. The series returns January 21st.

She was the world's most famous female boxer. He was her trainer and loving husband. But when she tried to leave him for a woman, he hatched a plot to K.O. her for good.
There is a story Jim Martin liked to tell about the first time he met the woman who transformed female boxing, who put the sport on the map, about the first time then-Christy Salters walked into his gym in Bristol, Tennessee, her mother and a Pomeranian in tow.
Related story on The Daily Beast: Manny Pacquiao, Boxing's Biggest Star
Jim took one look at the entourage and figured on the best way he could scare her off: He'd put her in the ring with a male boxer, maybe have the guy crack her ribs, and she'd be out of his hair.
That's not the way the story goes, though-at least not for the next two decades.

So really, dearest reader, what scares you the most? Speaking for myself, the answer is clear: the enigma that is Don King's Afro and the mystery that it represents. Okay, never mind ... it is frightening though. Filmmaker Adam Barnick has gone to great lengths to try and answer this question, and his new documentary, What is Scary?, is almost ready to shed some light on the subject.
"What is Scary? is an independent documentary that asks and analyzes a basic question that everyone has an answer for, if not an easy answer. While not intending to simply be a list of fears, phobias or 'what scares you', we hope to provoke thought and discussion while entertaining an audience, inside and outside of fans of the horror genre," says Barnick.
"Initial production was simple: A voicemail was set up, and people were encouraged to call in and answer the question 'What is scary?...

Poor Sham.
In 1973, the magnificent chocolate stallion ran the second fastest time in the history of the Kentucky Derby. His mark remains to this day. He probably had the talent to win horse racing’s Triple Crown. Instead, he has gone down as the forgotten rival to a horse whose only real competition was the limits of reality.
There is a very good movie to be made about Sham, an artsy, angsty Sisyphean drama about the horse that never quite could. Needless to say, that film won’t be made by Walt Disney. Instead, the Mouse House has made an inspirational sports film about Sham’s great rival, Secretariat.
The 1973 winner of horse racing’s Triple Crown, the first horse to achieve that cherished feat in twenty-five years, became a national sensation.

We all know Russell Crowe for making movies, making music and fighting around the world. But now during a press conference, professional heavyweight boxer Mark "The Dominator" De Mori (pictured) has actually challenged the actor to a boxing match. "I was a bit insulted when he trained for a boxing movie (Cinderella Man) and said that he could be a professional boxer," said De Mori. "So, all in good fun, I'd like to challenge Russell Crowe to a charity sparing match and maybe afterward I'll re-ask him the question: 'Does he still think he can be a professional boxer?'" For those who don't know De Mori, he is an Australian boxer managed by Don King, who recently stated that De Mori "has huge potential to win a heavyweight championship belt." The boxer is currently ranked #17 in the world and planning to begin his climb to the top next summer.

Dude, we’re sorry… we’re sorry that it took us a couple of days to put this up. We’ve just been really busy. It’s not you, it’s us. We just needed some space. (Or we had technical difficulties. Either way, I think that covered it. ) Last Thursday, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg graced St. Louis with their presence at “The Other Premiere”. St. Louis won by banning together via Fcebook to win the online contest with the most votes. Good job Stl, now if only we could all do something about the pot holes… The Red Carpet was a barrel of monkeys! It was super fun! Local celebrities Ozzie Smith, Chingy, Murphy Lee and some of the Rams players all walked the red Carpet… and even Don King showed up. (You will find out in my video why this is so funny. I believe it goes...

When it comes to appealing to children, Hollywood is nothing if not uncreative and prone to copycatting. If there exists an old toy or cartoon (or preferably both) lying around, some writer will come up with a way to cram it on to the big screen. Recently we were introduced to the horrific and nightmarish teaser trailer for The Smurfs. Now we learn that another short, ridiculous doll from the past will grace us in film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dreamworks is planning a movie based on the Good Luck Trolls or Troll Dolls. You know, the things with big eyes and crazy Don King-like hair that you used to buy, laugh at for two seconds, then forget about. Yeah, they.re going to be made into a movie. Dreamworks, who is at least responsible for the first, good Shrek, partnered with Troll rights controller Dam Things to...

Ufc 112: Invincible marks the Middle Eastern debut for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. As with the promotion’s previous invasions of new markets there is more at work than simply who is fighting in the cage.
Huge Favorites and Big Underdogs
When Manny Pacquiao fought Joshua Clottey no one gave the fighter from Ghana much of a chance to defeat boxing’s reigning pound-for-pound king. The fight was unbearably one-sided (it may have been the diarrhea causing Banku and Okra stew that Clottey ate the night before) but that didn’t stop the fans from buying over 700,000 pay-per views.
Ufc 112 finds itself in a similar situation. Two pound-for-pound kings in Anderson Silva and B.J. Penn plus a fading legend in Matt Hughes provide the card big star power. Yet, according to the odds-makers, their collective opponents have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning.

The film poster for Between the Cup and the Election, which makes its U.S. premiere April 9 at Walter Reade Theater during the 17th New York African Film Festival. Ask nearly anyone living outside of central Africa to name the biggest sports news to come out of Zaire in 1974, and you’re likely to get the same response: the heavyweight title fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, held in Kinshasa in October of that year. The legendary bout—packaged by Don King, funded by Mobutu Sese Seko, and known to all as the Rumble in the Jungle—reinstated Ali as world champion and outlandish showman, while giving rise to the rope-a-dope strategy that would see Ali through to the end of his career. But for those living in Kinshasa and throughout the rest of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), the year 1974 is important for another, more bittersweet,...
