This is it, folks! It’s time to blow the dust off the fedora, oil the whip, and venture into the unknown one last time as we celebrate the end of an era with a look back at the fifth film in the Indiana Jones franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny!
Unleashed 15 years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and presented as Harrison Ford’s final performance as Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr., Dial of Destiny finds a disillusioned Indy haunted by a villain from his past and pulled into a chase to recover the Antikythera, an Ancient Greek hand-powered orrery capable of predicting astronomical patterns and eclipses in advance. Commonly referred to as the first analog computer, the Antikythera is more than it seems in Dial of Destiny. In the film, the Antikythera can chart fissures in the fabric of space-time. Open...

Harrison Ford has found a great resurgence with his acclaimed shows, the Yellowstone prequel series 1923 and Shrinking on AppleTV+. In addition, the legendary star will also join the MCU as he takes over the role of General Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World. But this summer sees Ford donning the fedora one last time as he stars in the swan song for Henry Jones Jr. in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The fifth and final film in the franchise recently had its premiere, and a familiar face would sneak up behind Dr. Jones.
Variety reports on Ke Huy Quan, the former child star who portrayed Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, as he surprises his old co-star by sneaking up behind him during an interview on the red carpet for a photobomb before finally grabbing his attention. Ford erupts into a...

While many remember the charming rogue of an archaeologist from the original Raiders of the Lost Ark, Dr. Henry ‘Indiana’ Jones’ second cinematic adventure, Temple of Doom, revealed a much darker side to the character. Set in 1935, the film opens with Indiana escaping from a deal gone wrong in Shanghai. After crashing a plane in the Himalayas and surviving a harrowing raft trip down raging rapids, he finds himself in a remote Indian village where the sacred Sankara stone has been stolen. Enlisting the help of a nightclub singer and a precocious child sidekick, Indiana is determined to recover the stone from the sinister Thuggee cult in their palace of death. What follows is a disturbing descent into a hellish underworld of ritual sacrifice, black magic, mind control, and even human heart extraction. While Raiders cemented Harrison Ford as a leading man and the fedora and whip as iconic, Temple...

During its release in 1981, Raiders of the Lost Ark took moviegoers on an unforgettable adventure that transported them to exotic locations in search of a mystical relic. Now over 35 years later, the magic of Raiders of the Lost Ark continues to endure and delight new generations. Set in 1936, the film follows the daring archaeologist Indiana Jones as he races against time to find the Ark of the Covenant, a biblical artifact of untold power. Under the direction of Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford portrays the charismatic and quick-witted Dr. Jones as he outsmarts sinister villains and navigates dangerous booby traps in the jungles of South America and the deserts of Egypt. An homage to the pulp adventure stories of the early 20th century, Raiders of the Lost Ark reignited interest in adventure films and established Harrison Ford as one of the greatest action heroes of all time in his career-defining role as the legendary Indiana Jones.

Somewhere out there in the world are cinephiles and film journalists alike, decked out to the nines in tuxedos and gowns, basking in the glow of having just watched Harrison Ford in the final Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, while mere feet away from French beaches overlooking at the Mediterranean Sea. Sadly, those journalists do not include us.
Nonetheless, it is pleasant to hear that James Mangold’s swan song for Harrison Ford’s signature role engendered a six-minute standing ovation from the people in the room. As you can see in the below tweet, the reaction to Indiana Jones left the crowd jubilant and Harrison Ford in tears as he accepted the cheers on the same day he received an honorary Palme d’Or at the prestigious film festival, which recognized a lifetime of work.

Back in 1993, Hollywood had the shot of a lifetime. A shot at an opportunity to change the movie industry forever. They had all the ingredients: the rights to the highest-selling Nintendo video game and an untapped market greedy for more content. But they missed. The arrow didn’t even hit the board.

Every October, we stab them with knives, killing their regular appearances and bringing them to new life with sharpened teeth, ghoulish gazes, and impossibly wide, sinister smiles. We make pumpkins into little monsters every year, but what if they came to life on their own... and wanted revenge for the years of jack-o'-lantern carvings, discarded guts, and baked seeds? Darin Beckstead's Proof of Concept for his planned feature film, Evil Nature, expertly explores this unnerving "what if?" with ample amounts of holiday humor and creature-centric horror. We've been provided with the fun and frightening Evil Nature Proof of Concept to share with Daily Dead readers, along with an exclusive Q&A with director Darin Beckstead.

“Stranger Things 2” returns just in time for Halloween, both in the real world and in the eerie town of Hawkins, Indiana conceived in the nostalgic minds of The Duffer Brothers. The action picks up three days before Halloween 1984, which means that the year will soon be coming to a close. For those who may not have been alive or perhaps have a shaky memory of the time, 1984 was a big year for memorable events and in pop culture.
The first season reveled in bringing the time period alive in all of its totally ‘80s glory, from Dungeons & Dragons gaming sessions and Eggo waffles to homages to “E.T.,” “The Shining,” and “Rambo.” Hell, even star Winona Ryder’s presence is a timely tribute since she made her early career in such iconic ‘80s films as “Lucas,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Heathers.”

I recently rewatched Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull for the first time since I first watched it in theaters. It was actually a little better than I remember it being, but for the most part, it was still a dud and the worst film in the franchise. Like many of you, one of the characters that I couldn't stand was Shia Labeouf’s Mutt Williams, who is Indiana Jones' son. If you didn't care for the character either, you'll be happy to know that there will be no place for him in Indiana Jones 5.
During a recent interview with EW, screenwriter David Koepp talked about the next chapter of the Indiana Jones story and confirmed Mutt will not be in the movie:
"Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say… and the Shia Labeouf character is not in the film."

There’s a new option for people who can’t seem to get enough of the dimples belonging to stars like Gabrielle Union, Miranda Kerr and Brad Pitt’s — a procedure called dimpleplasty.
Plastic surgeons have seen a rise in requests for surgically-created dimples, something Dr. Wright Jones, MD and founder of Muse Plastic Surgery, credits to social media.

For 17 long, long years, Hugh Jackman brought Wolverine to life with such a raw intensity that it’s difficult to imagine anyone else donning those iconic adamantium claws anytime soon. That saga, one with many ups and downs, reached its conclusion back in March with the release of Logan, James Mangold’s poignant, R-rated finale that struck a chord with critics and X-Men fans the world over. And even now, almost three months since it hit theatres, the film continues to find itself making headlines.
As you probably know, the threequel hit Blu-ray last month and brought with it a ton of special features. From a director’s commentary to a black and white cut of the movie and of course, an extensive making-of documentary, there’s a lot there for fans to dig into. What was once a joke on Late Night TV 17 years ago, seems more like prophecy today. During a guest appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien back in 2000, Harrison Ford told Conan O'Brien that he would like to reprise his role as Indiana Jones, but at the time they did not have a script. Conan then joked that the Indy franchise is so popular that he would watch it even if Dr. Jones was 80. Little did he know just how close to predicting the future he was.
Ford did eventually reprise his again role as Dr. Jones in 2007's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which many thought would be his last time. But now Ford is currently gearing up to don the fedora and whip one more time in 2020. Which means Ford will be in his late seventies when Indiana Jones 5 opens in theaters on...

The title for Madam Secretary Season 3 Episode 17, "Convergence," couldn't have been more on the nose. We don't usually spend a lot of time talking about titles, but they're usually a little more enigmatic then this.
The long running arcs finally started to fit together, and thank god we don't have to have another tease about Henry worrying about Ian. Personally, I don't care if we never see him again now that the whole point of the religious cult storyline is clear.
Okay, it was clear before. I've been saying for a while that this is where it was headed, and while it's always nice to be about to say "I told you so," I was so tired of waiting for things to resolve.
Drawing out obvious plots is like enduring bad dental work. Why would the writers inflict that upon fans?
Let's all try to come up with ideas for...

Supergirl gets all X-Files in this episode when some kind of alien parasite infects an environmental activist, Dr. Jones. The parasite gives its host powers to suck energy from whatever it comes into contact with, which makes it very hard for Kara to fight.
While this monster of the week is scary and formidable, once again Supergirl's greatest strength comes from the personal relationship of the characters. The episode, aptly titled "Changing," deals with the biggest new developments of the season: Mon-El's existence, Alex's sexuality and James' burgeoning vigilante career. (I bet you can't guess which of that trio is the weakest story! Hint: it's James ... again.)...

Around the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, artist and animator Patrick Schoenmaker was commissioned by Topps to make special artwork for an Indiana Jones trading card set. This artwork was then joined by two more pieces for Acme Archives, and instilled in Schoenmaker a need to see Dr. Jones, a movie character he had loved since he was a child, in animated form. Five years later, this particular passion project has finally bore fruit in the form of this gorgeous animated short, which sees Indy doing what Indy does: exploring temples, fighting Nazis, and doing blood thirsty locals. While Lucasfilm have had great success spinning Star Wars into animated t.v. shows, good ol’ Indy has always remained in the realm of the big screen (with the exception of the short lived Young Indiana Jones Adventures), and that really should change. This shows how...

There are few film characters who are so closely identified with a single actor as Indiana Jones is with Harrison Ford. It’s hard to imagine someone else wearing the fedora. Could anyone else play the role as well as Ford? We’ll probably never know, because the part is unlikely to ever be recast. Here are 5 reasons why no one else will pick up the whip other than Ford.
Although there were rumors a few years ago about recasting the role of Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones with a new, younger actor like Chris Pratt or Bradley Cooper, the odds are that we will not see anyone else playing this character (at least, not for a long, long time.) Here are the reasons why…

With Indiana Jones well and truly ensconced in the House of Mouse, and Disney committed to bring us another adventure for Harrison Ford’s heroic archaeologist, I think we all assumed quite a few movies starring Indy are on their way, but a curious piece of information has come out of Star Wars Celebration Europe suggesting that Dr. Jones and co. will be getting the Marvel and Star Wars treatment with series of interconnected movies set in the same universe. Speaking at the Art of Storytelling, which shone the light on the Lucas film Story Group and their work crafting the different movies that make up the Star Wars franchise, Ilm president Lynwen Brennan said, Kiri [Hart] and her group have mapped out a story and timeline across multiple platforms many years in advance, many exhausting years in advance. … We have a great honor to have responsibility for, so we want...

Did you ever see an actor/actress in a famous role and then hear later that they were not the first, or even the second choice to play the iconic part? Many of the legendary movie characters began as a vehicle for a different star than the one who we know-and-love in the part. Here are a few of the greatest examples of famous "Almosts'.
Christopher Walken As Han Solo: George Lucas had a very hard time finding his Han Solo in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977). This character was the last of the lead figures to be cast. Lucas’ leading contender at one point was none other than Christopher Walken. Just think about the possibilities in that performance! However, a chance meeting with Harrison Ford (Who was working as a carpenter at the time) inspired Lucas to cast Ford in the part instead, which launched him into super stardom in the 80s.

Last month came the news that Lucasfilm was finally moving forward with a fifth film in the "Indiana Jones" franchise, one which Steven Spielberg will direct from a script by "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" writer David Koepp.
No further information was revealed at the time, but now producer Frank Marshall has revealed to Variety that the story will continue on from where 'Crystal Skull' left off and won't be a prequel as previously rumored. Whether it will pick up any of the threads left by the last film - Indy's marriage, Indy's son Mutt Williams, etc. is unclear.
One thing that Marshall does clearly spell out though is that you shouldn't expect anyone else to step in and take over the title role - he has little desire for a reboot: "It's all about the story. I think both in the Jason Bourne series and on Indiana Jones,...

It was recently announced that Lucasfilm would once again be teaming up with Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford for Indiana Jones 5. During his cinematic adventures thus far, Indy has gone after the Ark of the Covenant, tracked down a stolen sacred stone, found the Holy Grail, and uncovered an alien UFO.
The last Indiana Jones movie was set in 1957. I imagine Indiana Jones 5 will be set either in the '60s or '70s. There are a number of adventures that Indy could find himself in, but what’s next for the adventurous archeologist? Officially, we’ll have to wait and see — but in the meantime, here’s a list of mysterious archeological discoveries and legends that could spark Indiana Jones on his next adventure.

As "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" heads to home video next week, Harrison Ford popped up on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Ellen" this week to promote the release with talk turning towards arguably his two most iconic characters - Han Solo and Indiana Jones.
Specifically it focused on the new films on the way in 2018 and 2019 respectively that would see the return of those characters. In regards to the former, a young Han Solo film from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Ellen DeGeneres asked him if he had any advice for a young actor taking on the role. It was simple: "Don't do it. First, it seems like everything's going swimmingly, and you put in 25, 30 years, and then they just let you go. And they show you the door and say, ‘We're done with you, thanks very much.'"

David Koepp has been hired to pen the screenplay for the fifth film in the "Indiana Jones" franchise at Disney Pictures.
It will be a familiar job for Koepp who penned the previous film, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," along with numerous other Spielberg films including "Jurassic Park," "The Lost World," and "War of the Worlds".
Harrison Ford is set to return to the role of Dr. Jones once he wraps work reprising his role of Rick Deckard in Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" follow-up. Producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are also onboard, but - for now at least - it looks like neither George Lucas or Shia Labeouf will be involved.

Here's some weird timing: I was already working up this week's column when today's news broke. Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will reunite for the fifth Indiana Jones movie, currently scheduled for 2019. First of all, I'm perfectly thrilled with the announcement. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was garbage, but it was the kind of garbage with enough strength in it - Ford's performance, and some compelling ideas around the life of Dr. Jones in the post-nuclear world - that I'm more than happy to see the team take another crack at it, if only in order to redeem themselves. Moreover, this is a great opportunity to do with Indiana Jones what Lucasfilm just finished doing with Star Wars: relaunch the...

I for one thought Indiana Jones belonged in a museum – the series had three stellar entries in the eighties that now sit as blockbuster classics, but the Part Four That Shall Not Be Named seemed to undercut any chases of Indy having much of a cinematic future.
Well, we said the same thing about Star Wars and look where we are now; in what is presumably Phase Two of Disney’s plan to rule the world (well, the box office) with their acquisition of Lucasfilm, the company has just announced plans not only for an Indiana Jones 5, but an Indiana Jones 5 starring Harrison Ford and directed by Steven Spielberg (George Lucas is conspicuously absent from screenwriting duties).

The comments follow on from remarks by Kathleen Kennedy, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford in recent months about desire to reunite for another story with Dr. Jones and even a potential 2018 release date being rumored.

Okay film fanatics, when you hear the word archeologist, who do you immediately think of? That’s simple, you picture the rugged Harrison Ford as the dashing, whip-crackin’ Henry Jones, Junior better known as Indiana Jones, first introduced in 1981’s Raiders Of The Lost Ark (hmm, that itself may be an ancient artifact). First and foremost he’s a dashing action hero, but he’s also a man of ethics and morals, stated in his catchphrase “It belongs in a museum!”, along with his other sayings “Snakes. I hate ’em!” and “It’s not the years, it’s the mileage”. So are all seekers of the past, so noble? Well, the title character of the new film from the makers of Napoleon Dynamite certainly doesn’t follow in the well-worn boots of ole’ Indy. He’s got few qualms about fudging the facts and digging where he’s not permitted.

As much as we all hate to admit it, Harrison Ford is getting up there in years. That's not to say his days are anywhere near numbered, but when it comes to physical movie roles, there's only so much the 73-year-old actor can do in terms of stunts, and only so much an audience can buy. I'll stop beating around the bush. I'm talking about Indiana Jones, and what seemed like the character's eventual recasting. Recently, producer Frank Marshall confirmed that recasting Indy for the fifth film would be out of the question, but does that mean we'll never get a new Indy? After all, this is a franchise that, given the right direction, can exist forever, with new version of the character popping up every three or four movies (a la James Bond).
In a recent conversation with Screen, director Steven Spielberg gave his thoughts on replacing Harrison Ford.

There’s only one Indiana Jones. Quite literally, apparently.
Steven Spielberg has spoken with Screen Daily and made it very clear he doesn’t think “anyone could replace Harrison as Indy.” Whilst a lot of people out there were suitably intrigued by the rumour that tipped wunderkind Chris Pratt as the frontrunner for a reboot (it does make sense, if it had to be anyone), there are always going to be purists (myself included) who’d rather they just let it lie; Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones, end of. If you want to make an adventure flick with a charismatic lead actor, go create a new one. Spielberg also had this to say:
“I don’t think that’s ever going to happen… It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman.

The "Indiana Jones" franchise will come back sometime in the near future, but in what form is what has gotten everyone speculating in the past year or so.
After Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012, it was clear the franchise had been put on the backburner until the Mouse House had re-launched the "Star Wars" universe. With that now about to happen, talk of the return of Dr. Jones has picked up in recent months with some reports suggesting a reboot with someone like Chris Pratt taking on the role.
Producer Frank Marshall essentially dismissed those reports the other month, saying a fifth film in the series would involve Harrison Ford returning or wouldn't happen. Ford himself has expressed a desire to return as well, and now one person with a large amount of say has weighed in - Steven Spielberg.

Throughout the course of cinema, few actors have been as synonymous with one specific role as Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones, joining an echelon of stars such as Bruce Willis (John McClane), Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator). For better or worse, each role has and continues to be a permanent fixture on the actor’s résumé, and that doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon for one Harrison Ford.
Now that Indiana Jones 5 is looming on the horizon, buoyed by Steven Spielberg’s interest in the swashbuckling sequel, many believed Disney and Lucasfilm would look to recast the titular maverick and archaeologist, with Chris Pratt frequently cropping up in conversation. But according to producer Frank Marshall, it is Ford who will once again be picking up the whip and fedora for the follow-up, as the House of Mouse has no initial plans to “do...

There is one genuinely entertaining moment in the conclusion to Tom Six’s ass-to-magnum opus, The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence). Following a particularly nasty encounter with an inmate, penitentiary warden Bill Boss (The Human Centipede’s Dieter Laser) proudly, arrogantly reiterates to the prisoner’s doctor, “I castrated him.” Without missing a beat, an exasperated Dr. Jones…

"It belongs in a museum!" Indeed it does. Or maybe on your wall, in your living room, next to your big TV and endless collection of DVDs. Yea that's the perfect spot for this art print. Our friend Rob Loukotka, who goes under the name "Fringe Focus", has recently debuted a new print called The Desk of Dr. Jones and it's awesome. Loukotka's style utilizes very, very tall (or very wide) prints that feature lots of lush detail. This time he has decided to imagine what the desk of Indiana Jones would look like, featuring some of the famous "MacGuffins" and artifacts he has collected/stolen/interacted with at various points in his wild life. I love all the little the details and cinematic gems hidden on this "The Desk of Dr. Jones" print, which is now available in the Fringe Focus shop for $45 for a 36" x 12" screen print. He...

Harrison Ford has always known the most important part of flying is the landing ... and we have the video to prove it. Who knew the video would be so telling ... back in 2013, Colin, our D.C. photog. asked Dr. Jones for an aviation tip ... and he gave us a short, but right on the mark answer. Following Thursday's near-tragic crash, Ford is being hailed by some as a hero for avoiding disaster and landing the plane on a golf course.

Before taking on the Nazis in the search for the Ark of the Covenant in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, archeologist Indiana Jones faced off against a human sacrificing cult (some viewers may still hear “Kali Ma” chanted in their nightmares) in the 1984 prequel, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. With lead roles in this summer's Guardians of the Galaxy as well as next summer's Jurassic World (pictured above), Chris Pratt's star is quickly skyrocketing and it isn't hard to see why. He's got the good looks, the charisma, the dance moves and a wicked sense of humor. He's everything you want in a leading man, really, and his role as Star-Lord in Guardians has already drawn comparisons to a young Harrison Ford. So, naturally, stuff like this has popped up. It's a pretty good Photoshop job showing us what Pratt would look like as Indiana Jones, should that franchise ever reboot in a way that tosses it to a younger Dr. Jones. It might be the 30th anniversary of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but it's also the 25th anniversary of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. And there's no better way to commemorate the anniversary of what should have been the last film in the Indiana Jones franchise with an awesome new piece of artwork from Dave Perillo, who also debuted some great work for Mondo's Disney exhibition earlier this year. This piece comes from The Acme Archives who will release the print for sale today sometime between 10am and 11am Pst. It's a big, awesome piece of work for any fan of Dr. Jones. Look! Here's Dave Perillo's artwork for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (via SlashFilm): The print is a 12x36 silkscreen with an edition of 250, so good luck getting ahold of one. But for anyone who was able to get Perillo's pieces for Raiders of the Lost Ark...

Has it really been 25 years since we first met Indiana Jones's father?
"Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," the third film in the globe-trotting series, opened on May 24, 1989, returning our favorite dashing archaeologist to fighting Nazis and searching for Biblical treasures. It was the second-highest grossing film of 1989 with $197 million in the U.S. alone, surpassing 1984's "Temple," which earned just under $180 million.
While we are all as much scholars of these films as Dr. Jones is of collectible relics, we've unearthed some details you might not have known about the making of the film, including its many James Bond connections and why Steven Spielberg was so reluctant to make a movie about the Holy Grail.
1. Although George Lucas and Spielberg had always intended to make the series a trilogy, Spielberg also wanted "to apologize for the second one" by returning to the spirit of the original, hence the welcome...

Terminator When Arnold Schwarzenegger says he'll be "back," you better believe him. Schwarzenegger has said for years that he would love to reprise the role of the Terminator and now he has revealed to MTV News that he will return to the role that made him famous in next year's Terminator: Genesis, possibly even as multiple iterations of the classic cyborg. Before you get all armchair geek on the news, let us remind you that this is the "Austrian Oak" we're talking about, so even in his '60s we're pretty sure he could crush your skull if he wanted to. And, as far as the whole robots-don't-age argument goes, well, let's just let Ahnuld explain:
The way that the character is written, it's a machine underneath. It's this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator's flesh ages, just like any other human being's flesh.
