"Madame Web," released on Abraham Lincoln's birthday, frustrated audiences everywhere with its bizarre scripting, its lack of action, its weirdly unmotivated villain, and its staunch refusal to depict its lead characters actually turning into the superheroines they were destined to become. The title character was Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson) a New York paramedic in 2003 who discovers she has clairvoyant powers. She traces the origin of her powers back to her birth in the Amazon rainforests, where a rare, mystical spider bit her pregnant mother. Her powers also bring her inexplicably into the company of three New York teenagers who will all become Spider-Women someday -- but not in this film.

5 Essential Spider-Man Noir Comics You Must Read - Main Image
The live-action adaptation of Spider-Man Noir is coming to Prime Video, and Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as the alternate version of the Friendly Neighbourhood superhero.
It was in 2009 when Marvel Comics started creating a line of Marvel Noir comics that included Spider-Man Noir.
Unlike regular Marvel comics, the noir line takes place in an alternate universe where stories of familiar Marvel characters are reinterpreted to feature a hardboiled / crime noir atmosphere set during the Great Depression era in the US.
Here are the Spider-Man Noir comics you should read, created by David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky, alongside artists Carmine Di Giandomenico (who drew the first stories) and Marko Djurdjević (costume designer).

5 Characters We Could See In Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir - Main Image
MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video recently announced a new live-action adaptation of Spider-Man Noir. In addition to Nicolas Cage's portrayal of the alternate version of Spider-Man, several other characters could appear in the Noir series.
Set in 1930s New York City, fans are about to see a different Spider-Man in Noir. Compared to the usual bright red-and-blue Spider suit, Spider-Noir wears an all-black ensemble to tell a darker tale of the famous Wall Crawler.
But instead of using webs and sticking to the walls, he will be a gun-toting vigilante who prefers to parkour. In the place of supervillains, he will be fighting against corrupt politicians, crooked cops, and gangsters in his hometown of New York City.
So, here are the five characters we could see in Prime Video’s upcoming Spider-Man Noir.

Adam Scott might have the most thankless part in Madame Web. He exists simply to share the screen with a listless Dakota Johnson and trade expository dialogue about how her character Cassie Webb doesn’t like children or anything related to family—obnoxious signposts to give the movie something like a character arc. Cast to bring the good will he earned playing wholesome snarks in Party Down and Parks and Recreation, Scott delivers his lines with a wry reserve that feels like resignation.
And yet, Scott’s mere presence in the film gives Madame Web an important quality lacking in all of Spider-Man’s MCU appearances. Because Scott isn’t playing any guy who shows way too much concern for his co-worker’s disinterest in being a mother; he’s playing Ben Parker, beloved and ill-fated uncle to Peter Parker.

Here's a return no one saw coming: Aaron Stanford is appearing as the mutant Pyro in "Deadpool & Wolverine," reprising his role from "X2: X-Men United" and "X-Men: The Last Stand." It feels like the movie settling for whatever cameo it can secure since Pyro is very much a B-lister among the X-Men.
St. John Allerdyce (just John Allerdyce in the movies) has the mutant ability of pyrokinesis, or controlling fire (hence his adopted name of Pyro). However, it comes with a caveat. Unlike, say, Firebenders from "Avatar: The Last Airbender" or Colonel Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist, from "Fullmetal Alchemist", Pyro can't create fire. Hence, his comic costume has a dual hose flamethrower (with the tubes affixed to his wrist) to create the flames for him, which he can then manipulate.
Mr. Allerdyce is Australian (with the accent to show it), continuing the trend started in the reboot...

David Fincher is an excellent filmmaker, known for making cult classics like Fight Club and Seven. Known for his mastery of visual storytelling and creating deeply immersive cinematic scenes, Fincher is one meticulous filmmaker who has a knack for exploring dark and complex themes.

That’s undoubtedly why Sony has tried so hard to make a Sinister Six movie happen, first in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, and then in its Spidey-less Spider-Verse with Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web. In the early 1990s, Michael Jackson had plans to buy Marvel to play its most famous superhero, Spider-Man, in a film adaptation. He discussed his plans with none other than the creator of the superhero, Stan Lee, who was a friend of Jackson. However, his plans never materialized. According to one rumor, Jackson may have played a role in Sony acquiring the rights to the character from Marvel.

This rumor suggests that Sony was supposed to give the role of Uncle Ben in the Tobey Maguire-led film to the Smooth Criminal artist. However, Sony couldn’t cast him in the role and instead gave him a cameo role of Agent M in Men in Black II.

Bad movies are not uncommon at the box office and it has been this way since the very beginning of the film industry but bad superhero movies are a whole different category and are a bit more uncommon. However, it seems like Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web will be breaking all records and might just come out as the worst superhero movie of all time.

Tom Holland gained international recognition after he starred as Peter Parker a.k.a., Spider-Man in MCU. Holland took over the role from Andrew Garfield and first appeared in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Tom Holland’s standalone Spider-Man movies Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home earned him the title as the youngest actor to portray the title character on-screen.
With his exceptional acting skills and the way his character connects with the audience, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man became one of the fan-favorite characters in the MCU. Holland had described 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home as the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made and despite its release during the pandemic, the movie became the highest-grossing movie of 2021. The success of the movie left fans wanting a sequel soon and now there has been an update on the same.

Madame Web was a completely new direction for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. It introduced completely new characters for live-action and tackled a storyline that is very rarely brought up. Cassandra Webb’s story is specifically unique when it comes to the Spider-verse, with abilities like clairvoyance, telepathy, and precognition.
It was no surprise that a story as memorable as this would have been adapted into Marvel at some point or the other.
Sony’s Madame Web
With the distinctiveness of Webb, and an A-list cast full of actors, like Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, and Emma Roberts, playing different Spider-people, Madame Web had a lot going for it.
Despite this, it is extremely surprising to find out that the film had a disappointing debut at the box office. So much so, that it broke records and became one of the worst-performing films that Sony ever created.

While Miles Morales is thriving with an Oscar-winning film and an Oscar-nominated sequel, Peter Parker's future in film is uncertain. After the end of Tom Holland's trilogy, the partnership between Marvel and Sony has been nebulous. Sure, there was that "Morbius" post-credits scene, but things have been very quiet when it comes to the future of Tom Holland as Peter Parker.
It doesn't help that, in the time since "No Way Home," Sony has been making moves in their own universe, from the upcoming "Kraven the Hunter," hopes of another go at "Sinister Six," and even a live-action Miles Morales movie. All of this indicates that Sony wants a big spidey-future that does not depend on Marvel Studios. This includes "Madame Web," the latest movie that seems like it should involve Spider-Man, yet doesn't. The movie focuses on a different spider-powered hero...

We all love a good superhero origin story. Sure, it’s great to see Spider-Man swing from buildings, but it’s what Uncle Ben tells a young Peter Parker that touches us all. We all love seeing Batman kick the Joker’s teeth in, but we are all fascinated by that tragic night in Crime Alley. So it’s no surprise that the first and greatest superhero of all time should have a TV show about what defines him. There is a reason why Clark Kent is the best of us. While Batman may be the ultimate example of physical perfection, Superman is the pinnacle of the goodness of humanity. But fans have always debated: is Superman Clark Kent, or is Clark Kent just a disguise? I have always argued Superman is just a cape. Clark is the hero who wears it. Smallville is the case for my belief in...

We all know the story of Peter Parker, right? After the death/disappearance of his parents, Peter was raised by his kindly Aunt May and Uncle Ben, who gave him a happy life, despite the constant bullying he endured at school. After a bite from a radioactive spider gave him superpowers, Peter made one selfish choice that cost the life of his Uncle. As a result, Peter has spent the rest of his life as Spider-Man, living up to Uncle Ben’s teaching that with great power comes great responsibility.
At least, that’s how it is in most universes, including the original Ultimate Universe from the comics. But with a revamped Ultimate Universe returning to Marvel Comics, courtesy of writer Jonathan Hickman, Peter has undergone a significant change.

A trailer for Madame Web, the latest entry in Sony’s divisive live-action Spider-Verse, has finally dropped, giving us a hint of the movie’s intriguing time-travel plot, the young women set to develop spidey powers, and the villain hunting them all – Ezekiel Sims. But another thing that the Madame Web trailer has given us is a first look at who Adam Scott will be playing. His name is technically not uttered in the trailer, but according to IMDb he will be playing an important character in the Spider-Verse – Ben Parker.
Most people know Ben Parker as Uncle Ben, the man who raised Peter Parker alongside his wife May after the death of Peter’s parents. Uncle Ben has been played by Cliff Robertson in the Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man films and Martin Sheen in the Andrew Garfield-led Amazing Spider-Man movies, but has not yet been shown in the McU-connected Spider-Man movies.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when the multiverse becomes part of Spider-Man canon. The Spider-Man film franchise started simply enough, with 2002’s “Spider-Man.” Fast forward 20 years and three different actors have played live-action versions of the Wall Crawler, with the trio joining forces in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The most recent Spidey flick wasn’t just a fun family reunion. It also led to Marvel verifying the existence of the multiverse in its live-action productions. As the former Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange says in the film, “The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.”
While the establishment of the multiverse has a still yet-to-be-determined impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in the present it can make watching Spider-Man movies in order a little complicated.

Bonus, it’s not anything bad. It’s a glimpse of some shockingly dark kids’ movie you watched when you were nine, and it still haunts you at the worst times.

Sometimes the movie does it on purpose, like Neil Gaiman’s Coraline, which understands that kids are built differently when it comes to spooky stuff. Concept artist Phil Saunders took to social media to offer an alternate look at a scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home that was reworked in the finished film.
It’s a moment so critical in the story of Spider-Man that Sony’s Across the Spider-Verse dubbed it a “canon event:” The death of someone close to him. For Tobey Maguire, it was the murder of Uncle Ben. For Andrew Garfield, it was both Ben and Captain Stacy.
And for the MCU’s own Peter Parker, it was the untimely end of his beloved Aunt May, after she was caught in the blast of one of Green Goblin’s pumpkin bombs, as seen in No Way Home. However, due to pandemic-era constraints, the scene in question was not shot as originally planned.

One thing you can always count on from horror anthology shows is that eventually, they'll get to an episode about ventriloquist dolls. Don Rickles starred in an episode of "Tales from the Crypt" about a ventriloquist and his dummy and the granddaddy of them all, "The Twilight Zone," had multiple episodes centered around a ventriloquist and his little wooden pal.
And why wouldn't they? Ventriloquist dummies exist on that same uncanny valley plane as overly realistic porcelain dolls that everybody's grandmother collected for some reason. They're just creepy.
For episode 98, titled "The Dummy," the storytellers wanted to convey a tale about a down-and-out ventriloquist convinced his puppet is alive and being uncooperative. Of course, to the outside world it looks like the dude is having a mental break, but in true "Twilight Zone" fashion the big twist is that the main character's doll is indeed alive. The shocking reveal goes one step further because,...

Before the dawn of the Millennium, the prospect of a live-action Spider-Man meant Nicholas Hammond doing things slowly with a lot of string. The short-lived 1970s Spider-Man TV show perfectly illustrated that non-animated Spidey antics weren’t really achievable, although several – from James Cameron to Albert Pyun – tried to get projects spinning. But then came the arrival of CGI, and anything was possible…
Since Sam Raimi first swung Tobey Maguire into cinemas in 2002 there have been ten Spidey movies, three more Peter Parkers, and a Miles Morales, across four discrete franchises recently connected by Marvel’s multiverse shenanigans. Since Sam Raimi first swung Tobey Maguire into cinemas in 2002 there have been ten Spidey movies, three more Peter Parkers, and a Miles Morales, across four discrete franchises recently connected by Marvel’s multiverse shenanigans. If that sounds complicated, allow us to guide you through the Spider-Verse with our ranking of every big-screen Spider-Man outing.

This post contains spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
Spider-Man has almost as long a history in animation as he does in the comic pages where he originated. That's why the "Spider-Verse" films' conceit — placing different Spider-People together and representing them with different styles of animation — is so clever. While the original "Into the Spider-Verse" featured only six Spider-People teaming up, the sequel "Across the Spider-Verse" takes things into overdrive with hundreds of them. This fulfills the promise of a Spider-Verse.
Most of these Spider-People are simple cameos or easter eggs -- they're all going about their day in Miguel O'Hara's (Oscar Isaac) citadel on Earth-928 and the film rarely lingers on them. However, knowledgeable Spider-Fans will spot some stars among the crowd. "Across the Spider-Verse" treats all Spider-Man audiovisual media as part of one big web. So, like how "Spider-Man: No Way Home" united the live-action Spider-Man actors,...

Spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" follow.
There was a brief trend in blockbuster filmmaking in the mid-'00s that produced some of the most overblown sequels ever. "The Matrix" and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies were initially big and unexpected hits, each of them rattling the zeitgeist in their own way. Rather than merely make traditional sequels, however, both "The Matrix" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" offered audiences gigantic two-part mega-sequels, released as two separate features.
The Wachowskis' "The Matrix Reloaded" was released in mid-May of 2003, with a sequel, "The Matrix Revolutions," due the following November. The two films locked together in a massive, sprawling action spectacular that would expand "The Matrix" to apocalyptic territory. "The Matrix" was already a fascinating and heady sci-fi epic that flirted with revolutionary action filmmaking, ideas of gender euphoria and identity, and Cartesian existentialism.

This article contains spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," so proceed with caution.
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is now in theaters everywhere. The highly anticipated sequel expands the roster of Spider-People that was already jam-packed with a bunch of web-slinging superheroes from a variety of different universes in its predecessor, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." Since the sequel is concerned with the fate of the entire multiverse, there's room for a plethora of new characters, including some surprises. Along with the brief appearance of a couple of beloved animated Spider-Man variations from television's past, as well as a certain PlayStation version of the webhead and an endless array of comic book characters, there's a surprising amount of live-action references. But one stands out above them all.
When Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) first arrives in Nueva York, a futuristic version of New York in the universe occupied by Spider-Man 2099, he gets a...

The new animated film "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is going to aggravate hunters of Easter eggs. The sheer overwhelming volume of Spider-Man references, callbacks, and cameos will cause even the most stalwart, deep-cut Marvel Comics fan to go a little cross-eyed. There is a hilarious moment when Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) arrives at an interdimensional Spider-Man headquarters, populated entirely by thousands of Spider-People from other dimensions, and the camera pans over a crowd of them, introducing each with a miniature on-screen chyron. In the span of about four seconds, about a hundred chyrons speed past the audience's eyes. Sorry, Easter egg hunters. We're deliberately giving you more information than your brain can process.
Throughout the hundreds of Spider-Cameos, however, there is going to be one most people might recognize. As the various Spider-People speed through various dimensions, one might catch a glimpse of background TV screens and news broadcasts, depicting...

This article contains major spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
The central gimmick of both 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and its new follow-up, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," is that — thanks to multiverse shenanigans — any version of Spider-Man can appear and interact with any other version. The films center primarily on Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and a spider-powered version of Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), but incorporate dozens of other Spider-People in supporting roles, including some of the stranger ones, like the anthropomorphic pig Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) or the rumpled-rock-flyer-constructed Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya). Many Spider-Fans entered these films with mental notepads, eager to see their own favorite version of Spider-Man represented on the big screen. Personally, I was chuffed to see the Scarlet Spider (Andy Samberg), the 1990s Spider-Man clone in a ripped sweatshirt.
The "Spider-Verse" gimmick of "infinite inclusion" also tapped into the movies' thematic underpinnings. The 2018 film stated outwardly...

If you’re one of the many folks who flocked to see Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 3, you no doubt wiped away a tear or ten when you watched Rocket Raccoon’s tragic backstory play out. But, is his origin the most traffic MCU Original of them all? Indeed, the MCU has dominated cinema for the past decade and a half and has given audiences some of the most memorable on-screen moments in history. Fans have developed close personal relationships with the heroes and characters to the point that they feel as if they’re real people existing in the real world. While that may not be true, it’s still a testament to how emotionally powerful the MCU has become that it allows audiences to empathize and care about completely fictional beings.

Spoilers for "Fast X" follow.
Marvel Comics has long been notorious for dramatically killing off its star characters, only to resurrect them at a later date. Thanks to the byzantine machinations of superhero stories -- Time travel! Parallel universes! Sorcerer's magic! Cosmic deities! Clones! -- death has become resolutely impermanent for them. If anything, death is a mere inconvenience for a superhero, and they may just have to wait it out before an Infinity Stone or a time machine retrieves them from oblivion. One of the only Marvel characters that has stayed 100% dead in every iteration is Spider-Man's Uncle Ben. If Uncle Ben didn't die, then Spider-Man would not be motivated to become a superhero. And yes, there are some other minor Marvel characters who remain in the ground, but few miss, say, Thunderstrike.
Marvel's lack of death carried over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a rather disappointing way.

The 2018 animated adventure comedy "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was an audacious kick in the pants that brought Marvel's comics to life in astonishing new ways. It managed to not only be one of the earliest and best examples of the current boom in multiverse stories, but it also was just a darn good time at the movies. It was the cure for my superhero fatigue, and the latest trailer for the upcoming sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," has me excited for more.
The new trailer shows some of the same moments and characters as previous trailers, but it also gives us a look at a few new characters and seems to confirm that someone in Miles Morales' life is going to face the same fate as Peter Parker's Uncle Ben. That's pretty dark stuff, but the trailer also has a lot of gorgeous art to look at and plenty of...
