Dave Matthews — yes, the one with the band — joined Dinosaur Jr. onstage during their show in Seattle Wednesday night (January 12th), where they all did a cover of Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer” together.
Dino Jr. like to bring their friends onstage. While they were in London last November, they brought out My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields to shred on a cover The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” In just the past week alone, they’ve recruited Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus, Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, Red Fang’s Bryan Giles, and The Dandy Warhols’ Peter Holmström at various shows.
And Matthews wasn’t the only guest Wednesday, either: Mudhoney’s Mark Arm also assisted J Mascis and company for covers of The Stooges’ “T.V. Eye” and “Real Cool Time,” while Pearl Jam/Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron sat in during “Yeah We Know.” See some fan-captured clips...

Cheryl Fair, the president and general manager of ABC-owned Kabc Los Angeles, is departing ABC’s owned TV stations group after 50 years with the company. Fair, who has spent the last 30 years at Kabc and before that, 20 years at Wpvi Philadelphia, revealed the news to staff on Tuesday.
Attending the meeting to share the news were Debra OConnell, president of Disney Entertainment TV’s networks and TV business operations, and Chad Matthews, the president of ABC Owned Television Stations.
Fair told her team that she will be retiring at the end of March, marking the anniversary of first joining ABC stations five decades ago. “The most difficult part of making this decision is leaving all of you, my Kabc family – and we really are a family,” she wrote. “I have had the distinct honor to work with all of you through some of the best and worst times in our lives.

Welcome to this week’s review of Aew’s latest television show, Collision, which brings wrestling back to Saturday nights! We’ve got the commentary team of Nigel McGuinness, Kevin Kelly and Tony Schiavone calling the action, so let’s get into the review!
Match #1: Adam Copeland def. Lee Moriarty The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:
Collision kicked off with the “Cope Open”! Copeland whipped Moriarty into the turnbuckles. Copeland clubbed Lee with forearms. Copeland swept out Lee’s legs. Moriarty wrenched Copeland’s arm over the top rope and followed up with a dropkick. Moriarty went for the Border City Stretch. Copeland powered himself to the ropes, reaching out and grabbing the bottom rope, forcing the ref to break the hold. Moriarty climbed to the top turnbuckle, but Copeland knocked Moriarty off balance. Copeland tossed Lee with an avalanche fallaway slam. Copeland was contemplating a spear, but...

Plot: A mild-mannered academic (Nicolas Cage) discovers that he’s the center of a strange phenomenon, with people worldwide suddenly seeing him in their dreams. At first, thrilled with the attention and sudden fame, he finds himself despised and “cancelled” when the dreams turn violent.
Review: Dream Scenario is a very “now” movie, with it a blazing satire of sudden fame and “cancel culture,” with director Kristoffer Borgli showing utter contempt for both. It’s the perfect vehicle for Nicolas Cage, as perhaps more than any actor, his likeness has been commodified over the years, being used and manipulated in meme after meme in a way that’s totally out of his control.
Likewise, his character, Paul Matthews, has no control over how people view him. Sporting a bald pate, a beard and the kind of nasal voice he used in Peggy Sue Got Married, Cage fully inhabits the role...

Six weeks after being convicted for possessing and transporting child sexual abuse material, former ABC News producer James Gordon Meek and his footprint in the world of investigative journalism are quietly disappearing.
Hulu removed Meek’s Emmy-nominated documentary “3212 Un-Redacted” from its platform this past week. The film, which delves into the deaths of four U.S. Special Forces soldiers in Africa and exposes a government cover-up, was produced by ABC News and first launched on Hulu in November 2021.
A source familiar with the matter says the film’s licensing window expired and will not be renewed. Although the film, which is based on Meek’s reporting, was considered an impressive feat of investigative journalism, the prospect of keeping it on Hulu became untenable given that the disgraced producer is featured prominently on camera.
Likewise, ABC News also has quietly removed a tagline from all of Meek’s work that read:...

If dreams could predict the future, Nicolas Cage and film team should be toasting awards success with Dream Scenario for its on-point and absurdly funny representation of the subconscious mind, fame and social media and cancel culture.
Like the random firings of neurons that form dream scenarios, this compelling collective tale of utter ‘ordinariness’ escalating into extreme ‘extraordinariness’ follows unremarkable, middle-aged Professor Paul Matthews (Cage) as he navigates appearing in people’s dreams like some divine intervention, from family to total strangers.
The film opens with Matthews raking leaves by a swimming pool, simply observing, as chaos swirls all around him. In reality, the scholar lives a quiet, modest life and is happily married with two daughters. However, the mediocre-achieving biologist has one nagging regret that he missed his chance of academic notoriety with his ‘ant-elligence’, a theory that is then robbed before his very eyes.

Willie Nelson is now officially a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Just don’t ask him what he has to do with rock & roll. “It’s been a long ride from my first DJ job to being here with y’all,” he said during his acceptance speech. “And as a DJ, I was playing those first songs by Elvis. I remember writers calling that ‘rockabilly’ rather than rock & roll, and I never did pay much attention to categories, and I’m not sure the fans did either.

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
For the 25th entry of this editorial series (!), we’re looking at the lone Amityville directed solo by a woman: Rebecca Matthews’ Witches of Amityville Academy (2020). Also known as Amityville Witches or Witches of Amityville, this British production is another “Amityville in name only.” That means the characters say the word, but it has no bearing to haunted objects and/or its DeFeo predecessors. In fact, the film is closer in tone and visual aesthetic to a soap opera than the preceding 26 titles.
Screenwriter Tom Joliffe opens the film with not one, but two cold opens. The first features witches being hanged in 1602, while the second jumps ahead to the present day as white magic sisters Sam (Kira Reed Lorsch), Lucy (Donna Spangler...

Exclusive: A Broadmoor hospital doc featuring “brand-new testimony from ex-patients and ex-staff” is in the works at Paramount UK network Channel 5.
Inside Broadmoor [working title] will feature interviews, archive and stylized reconstructions revealing stories about one of the nation’s oldest and highest security psychiatric hospitals. The institution in Berkshire was built in 1863, at which point it was called Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, and it has gained notoriety down the years and housed high-profile patients including Charles Bronson and Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper. The late Jimmy Savile, who was posthumously outed as a serial sexual abuser, was later accused of abuse while doing voluntary work at Broadmoor.
Channel 5’s four-parter will tell the stories of patients doing time for the most high-profile cases. Key contributions from ex-staff will reveal secrets including stories of brutal attacks, fights, and murders, while the series will examine what makes dangerous people mad as well...

A24 after a raucous Midnight Madness premiere of Dicks the Musical brought the funny again tonight with the world premiere of Kristopher Borgli’s Dream Scenario, another ode and self satire of Oscar winner Nicolas Cage if there ever was one.
Cage said onstage tonight that Dream Scenario was one of a few projects in his career, that after reading it and seeing it “perfect on the page,” he had to play it; the other titles being Raising Arizona, Vampire’s Kiss, and Leaving Las Vegas. The pic follows Paul Matthews, a humdrum professor, who starts appearing in other people’s dreams, both sexually and brutally. Matthews becomes something of a social media sensation, err meme, and that was something that Cage could relate to.

As Hollywood waits to see what may come out of Friday’s meeting between the WGA and the AMPTP, filmmakers and producers at all levels have been engaged in a complex dialogue on the lightning-rod topic that has emerged during the concurrent actors strike: the SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement.
As of Tuesday, a total of 123 interim agreements have been handed out in both film and TV since the guild’s strike began, to projects from “truly independent producers” that have agreed to abide by the terms of the new contract SAG-AFTRA is pushing for with the studios and streamers.
The topic of the interim agreements, which are being studied and handed out by a group within the actors union, are being discussed, dissected and debated on the picket lines and social media, with actors such as Sarah Silverman voicing their concern that such a policy could prolong the strike.

“The Talk” showrunner Kristin Matthews is stepping down from her post after 13 years with the CBS talk show, she announced Friday.
The series’ longtime EP helped launch the show as coordinating producer 13 years ago. A replacement has not yet been announced.
“After 13 years, the time was right for me to make a change and I won’t be returning next season,” Matthews said in a statement provided to TheWrap. “I helped launch ‘The Talk’ in 2010 and I am so proud of all that we have accomplished with the show over the past 13 seasons. We have worked together to achieve so much success, laughter, ratings, Emmys, love and tears — everything you can experience producing over 2,500 episodes. I’m truly grateful to the incredible team I’ve had the opportunity to lead, as well as all the outstanding staff, crew and hosts I’ve worked with during my time on the show.

Exclusive: The Talk will have new leadership.
Kristin Matthews, who serves as showrunner and exec producer on the CBS daytime series, is leaving after nearly three years in charge. She helped launch the show as coordinating producer in August 2010.
She took the top job in September 2020, initially shared with another The Talk veteran Heather Gray, who died in 2022 after battling “an unforgiving disease”.
Matthews was named co-exec producer in August 2012, two years after launch and she earned two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment in 2016 and 2018.
Prior to joining The Talk, she was a producer at The Early Show at CBS News and previously worked at NBC Nightly News and Today.
CBS is expected to reveal her replacement soon.

A key ingredient for a well-made survival drama is showcasing how different characters respond to a common set of conditions or external influences. MGM+’s sci-fi mystery thriller gains strength in this particular aspect as an ensemble of talented cast members manages to capture the viewers’ awe through deft characterization and a story that always keeps them guessing. The hellscape of Fromland traps unaware victims in its clutches in regular intervals or cycles, and in the present cycle, which the series begins with, two groups of newcomers get ensnared at the same time. Among them are Tabitha, from the Mathews family, and Jade, one of the two friends, who in the course of the two seasons of the series, prove themselves to be pivotal in their ‘destined’ role in the context of the fate of other trapped victims of Fromland. The way their roadmap has been charted out so far...

The makers of MGM+’s sci-fi horror drama From have a great way of maintaining suspense throughout, so much so that even as the second season has ended, viewers hardly have a concrete idea about the central mystery. Much of this is achieved by withholding information, as shown through the role of Victor, who might be the most important character of the series so far. The seemingly frail, mentally broken, eccentric middle-aged man has lived in the godforsaken place for the longest period, and as the series has shown so far, his experience is going to play a vital part in learning about an escape route.
Victor, from his initial interactions with the townsfolk, is considered an oddball of a character by viewers, whose intellectual growth has remained stunted at a child-like phase. However, as we got to know more about his past, fans even started speculating that everything that...

Horror-thriller is a confusing mashup of science, religion and spiritualism, cursed with a sloppy script and bad acting
This horror-thriller occupies the same Victorian shadowlands as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Penny Dreadful; a not-quite-modern epoch, with its zesty mashup of science, religion and spiritualism, retrofuturist tech and plain retro beliefs. It makes an invigorating backdrop for Irish director Stephen Hall’s second feature. But his script isn’t quite sharp enough and – apart from John Rhys-Davies, who goes at his role with his customary fiery traction, and villain Richard Brake, as ever exploiting a face like an open grave – too many of the supporting cast fall into the distinctly ordinary bracket, acting-wise.
We open with the bobbies bursting in on London’s most-wanted serial killer: William Colcott (Brake), about to dispatch another victim in a long string he is apparently offering up in an occult attempt to resurrect his dead wife.

In one of his seminal works, Shawshank Redemption, Stephen King remarked through his character, Red, about the dangerous capacity of hope, which can turn a person insane. The series finale of MGM+’s From evokes a similar sentiment, as by the end of the episode, viewers are left to question everything that they had assumed about the mystery regarding ‘Fromland’. In the previous episode, an ominous rhyme in the form of a warning was heard by a number of townsfolk from the other side, which mentioned the demise of three people. In sync with what was foretold, Marielle and Julie get trapped in a nightmare scare, and Randall seemingly falls prey to the same as well. Tabitha learned from Victor that his mother considered that going to the lighthouse and saving the kids—the same disfigured ones Tabitha had been seeing in her vision—could have been a way to...

Looking for a leading figure in times of distress is instinctive for human beings, more so when the reality is so incomprehensibly scary as it is in MGM+’s mystery horror drama From. In a story that revolves around people who have been caught inside a virtually unknown town infested with murderous nocturnal monsters from which there is no escape, looking up to someone feels to be the need of the hour. The viewers were introduced to Sheriff Boyd Stevens in the very first episode of the series. Boyd is the unofficial leader of the townsfolk, just like Jack Shepherd in Lost (produced by the same creators), who took it upon himself to protect the hapless residents and find a way out for them from their hellish existence. But as the story progresses through two seasons, it gradually reveals that Boyd’s role as a leader is more intricately connected...

Documentary follows stolen generations member Brenda Matthews’ search for her white foster parents
Get our weekend culture and lifestyle email
The inherently fragmentary nature of memories is a difficult thing to visualise, but The Last Daughter’s co-directors, Brenda Matthews and Nathaniel Schmidt, do a fine job of it in this tenderly crafted documentary. Imagery throughout the film is tuned to the testimony of Matthews, a Wiradjuri woman and member of the stolen generations who was removed from her biological family when she was very young. She was placed in the custody of white foster parents who raised her in a loving home for five years before being directed to return her to her Aboriginal family. This created, in the long run, a large gap in her understanding of her past.
Matthews’ first memories were of growing up in a white family but where did they go? Why did they leave her life?...

Match #1: Double Jeopardy Match – Claudio Castagnoli def. Rey Fenix The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:
The winner earns a shot at the other man’s championship. Claudio ducked a reverse kick from Rey Fenix. Claudio caught a flying Rey Fenix and nailed him with a vicious backbreaker. But then Claudio got bounced around with two tope suicidas from Rey Fenix. The third time was not the charm, though, as Claudio caught Rey and then dropped him across the barricade outside the ring. Rey Fenix walked the top of the barricade and clobbered Claudio with a hurracanrana onto the floor. Bryan Danielson and Wheeler Yuta watched the match on a monitor backstage.

The press release and IMDb page for The Artifice Girl describe it like this “ A team of special agents discovers a revolutionary new computer program to bait and trap online predators. After teaming up with the program’s troubled developer, they soon find that the AI is rapidly advancing beyond its original purpose.” It’s also tagged “Mystery” “Sci-Fi” and “Thriller”. Sounds like a potentially exciting crime film with some topical AI elements, right? Not exactly.
Deena is asking Siri the difference between right and wrong. Unsurprisingly her virtual assistant doesn’t have an answer. Her partner Amos arrives with Gareth, played by The Artifice Girl’s writer/director Franklin Ritch. It seems the two agents want to ask him some questions about some pictures found on his computer.
That’s when he drops a bombshell on them.

After the eventful second episode of the second season, MGM+’s sci-fi thriller series From slows down the pace to better settle all the new characters and realign some plot points from the first season. In the previous episode, we saw Boyd getting back into the town after the mysterious person shackled in chains. infected him with skin-crawling worms. A number of people lost their lives because they were unaware of the dangers of nocturnal shapeshifting monsters, including the newcomer bus passengers and the town barkeep Tom, who was stuck inside the collapsed house of the Matthews family. Tabitha and Victor found their way out of the underground maze, which was the resting place of the monsters, and along with Boyd and a newcomer named Elgin, they finally made it back to town in the morning. We also saw a newcomer couple, Brian and Kelly, responding to unknown persons at...

Just call them the Rolling Stoners.
You know you are music royalty when Keith Richards shows up to pay his respects. And the Rolling Stones icon was on hand Sunday for the second and final night of Willie Nelson’s epic, 90th birthday concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
At 79, Richards was the youngster in this pairing of living legends, and the two harmonized sweetly on two songs: Waylon Jennings’ “We Had It All” and the late outlaw Billy Joe Shaver’s “Live Forever,” particularly poignant with its refrain, “Just like the songs I leave behind me / I’m gonna live forever, now.”
The Richards surprise came shortly after 10:00 p.m. on this cool, overcast night in the hills above Hollywood, nearly three-and-a-half hours into the evening’s celebration.

After leaving the fates of major characters dangling with a cliffhanger of an ending in the finale of the first season, MGM’s “From” has returned with its second season, which has raised more questions than it’s answered. In the final episode of the first season, we saw Boyd and Sara venturing further into the wilderness to find an escape route for the residents of the hellish town, and as the duo reached the farthest point, they spotted a lighthouse. With worsening weather and lessening daylight, they became concerned about shelter, and the mysterious boy dressed in white communicated with Sara and asked both of them to seek refuge inside a faraway tree. Boyd enters and gets transported to a deep drywell in an unknown location. Meanwhile, at the Matthews household in town, Tabitha searches through the hole in the basement and ends up at the lowest level after it collapses further.

‘The Artifice Girl’ Review: A Thought-Provoking Speculative Drama About AI Bait For Online Predators
Artificial Intelligence has been increasingly in the news of late, with observers worried that it will soon become difficult for teachers to tell if students actually completed a project themselves (or a program did it for them), for anyone to recognize whether a supposed breaking evidential video is in fact a deepfake, and so forth. “The Artifice Girl,” however, frames the problems raised by ever-growing technological sophistication in a familiar narrative framework: that of the machine intelligence that begins to surpass its human “masters.”
Unlike portrayals from “2001” to “Ex Machina” and beyond, however, Franklin Ritch’s debut feature does not treat that dynamic in thriller terms, as a hostile takeover. Instead, this smaller-scaled speculative fiction is more concerned with ethics, as pondered in a series of dialogue sequences that aren’t static but might also have worked on stage, and require nothing in the way of FX. The results may...

It is said that places change people. Just like the place someone belongs to shapes up their worldview and psyche, similarly, the ability to adapt to a place that subscribes to unfavorable characteristics, or lack thereof, can affect people differently. Epix’s mystery horror series “From” examines that as the setting of the narrative itself plays the role of a character that oppresses its inhabitants to their breaking point—to such an extent that, bereft of hope, the prospect of escaping seems as fantastical to some as the fear of change, even from a nightmarish existence, grasps others. The series definitely takes elements from the popular supernatural survival series of yesteryear, “Lost” and probably as a nod to that, Harold Perinneau, who played the role of Michael Dawson in “Lost,” also plays the lead role of Sheriff Boyd Stevens in “From.” As the second season of the series is about...

The Duffer Brothers are staying strong at Netflix with a new supernatural series. But instead of teenagers leading the narrative, a group of senior citizens will make up The Boroughs. Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), the mystery series is set in a seemingly idyllic retirement community, where an unlikely group of residents team up to thwart an otherworldly force threatening their livelihood. The premise sounds like a more sinister Cocoon, and we all know how much the Duffers and even Addiss and Matthews love '80s references. As we wait for more updates on the show’s production, here’s everything we know about The Boroughs so far.
According to the official logline: “In a seemingly picturesque retirement community in the New Mexico desert, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have…...

After the huge success of "Stranger Things," it's no surprise Netflix would want to stay in business with the Duffer Brothers. And as that show heads toward its highly anticipated conclusion, the duo is revving up future projects for the streamer.
When Netflix signed Matt and Ross Duffer to a nine-figure deal last year, one of the projects they were attached to was a mysterious science fiction series from creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the guys behind Netflix's beloved, canceled-too-soon fantasy epic "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance." Today, we finally have more information about that project.
The eight-episode series is called "The Boroughs," and it sounds like it could be tonally similar to "Stranger Things" despite having a completely different setting and group of characters. Here's the official logline:

Boy Meets World, starring Danielle Fishel, Ben Savage and Rider Strong, was a hit coming-of-age TV series that ran from 1993-2000. It provided plenty of young viewers on-screen proxies for their own ups and downs with adolescence and young adulthood. Without a doubt, the element that made the show so meaningful to so many was the connections between the characters.
It’s hard to imagine that the show almost didn’t include one of its most famous couples: Cory and Topanga.
On ‘Boy Meets World,’ Danielle Fishel played Topanga
Boy Meets World is remembered today for its core cast of characters. That includes best friends Cory (Ben Savage) and Shawn (Rider Strong), their teacher Mr. Feeny (William Daniels), and Cory’s brother Eric (Will Friedle). The list would not be complete without Cory’s long-time girlfriend and eventual wife, Topanga (Danielle Fishel).
Topanga was an important part of the series for its entire seven-year run.

Gordon Ramsay says he gets particularly upset when people suggest he uses cocaine due to his strict anti-drugs stance.
The celebrity chef discussed his itinerant upbringing on various council estates and his brother’s heroin addiction on the latest episode of Spencer Matthews’s podcast, Big Fish.
“Growing up in multiple s***holes, you get one’s s*** together early,” Ramsay told the former Made in Chelsea star.
“I just wanted to better myself and get out of a situation that was unfortunate. I had grown up on 15 council estates.”
He continued: “I set out to change and give my family the security and everything that I had wished for at their age. I never expected that level of success, like any success it's worked for.”
The 56-year-old explained that while he was becoming more successful, his brother’s addiction issues were escalating.
“The flipside to my success is my brother’s addiction to heroin.

The Sydney Film Festival, which this year will celebrate its 70th edition, has unveiled its first dozen selections. Seven are feature films, five are documentaries.
“The 2023 program will expand on this legacy, promising to ignite stimulating dialogues and present powerful ideas that will broaden audience perspectives,” said festival director Nashen Moodley. He noted that over the previous 69 editions the Sydney festival has showcased more than 10,000 films.
Highlights among the documentaries are two Australian titles. “Rachel’s Farm” follows actor-director Rachel Ward as she revitalizes her beef farm using sustainable farming practices. In “The Last Daughter” Wiradjuri woman Brenda Matthews documents her search to uncover the truth about her government-ordered abduction as a child and to find her white foster family. Both Matthews and Ward will attend the festival in person.

Mumbai, March 4 (Ians) Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s impressive fifty (65 off 30), followed by Saika Ishaque’s sensational four-fer (4/11) led Mumbai Indians to a dominant 143-run victory over Gujarat Giants in the opening match of the Women’s Premier League (Wpl) 2023 at the Dr Dy Patil Sports Academy, here on Saturday.
Kaur’s historic fifty powered Mumbai Indians to an imposing 207 for five in 20 overs. Apart from Harmanpreet, Amelia Kerr (45 not out off 24) and Hayley Matthews (47 off 31) also played valuable knocks for Mi.
Chasing a huge total, Gujarat batters had immense pressure on Gujarat and they crumbled under that. With Mooney getting injured in the first over, they were already staring down the barrel.
Very soon Gujarat lost four wickets inside the powerplay which completely pushed them back. They couldn’t recover from there. Only two batters got into the double digits, with Dayalan Hemalatha being the top-scorer beat Gujarat Giants Innings 64-9 in 15.1 overs by 143 runs.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Tanuja Kanwar in her first over sent Yastika back cheaply. But, the two experienced internationals, Matthews and Sciver-Brunt were in their elements and batted brilliantly.
