Donald Glover is busy, apparently so busy as per fans that the Community movie, based on the hit NBC drama of the same name, keeps getting delayed due to his busy schedule. Starring as Troy Barnes in the hit TV series, the actor is one of the several lead characters of the show based on the lives of Community college attendees in the fictional town of Greendale.
A still from Community
First announced in 2022 by Peacock, the movie is yet to start filming. And several fans believe it is because of Glover and his busy schedule that is allegedly causing repeated delays. Even after the Mr. and Mrs. Smith star revealed it is not his fault that the movie hasn’t begun filming, fans refuse to believe him.

Not every TV show can hit a home run right out of the gate. Often, they need time to settle into a routine or win over audiences, especially when they are more character-driven. Normally, things start to shake out after the pilot episode, which is where we usually see the growing pains of a show trying to figure out exactly what it is. But every once in a while, there's a show -- sometimes even one that will go on to become legitimately great -- that needs a little more hand-holding.
Maybe the characters aren't gelling the right way, the showrunners are attempting to retool the series in real time, or they were simply experimenting stylistically. Whatever the reason, it's not impossible for a show that requires some extra time to cook to become beloved by audience. Here are some of our favorite shows that, despite eventually aspiring to greatness,...

Donald Glover has been booked and busy, but those rumors about his schedule holding up production on Peacock’s Community: The Movie aren’t accurate, according to the multihyphenate.
“It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” Glover told Deadline earlier this week at the Deadline Studio at Prime Experience in support of his Prime Video series Mr. and Mrs Smith. The video can be watched above.
When asked if it was his busy schedule holding up production, he said while laughing, “Everybody is hating on me on the internet and it’s not me! They’re like, ‘We know that you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year — maybe — but not this time.”
Created by Dan Harmon, Community, a comedy series set at a community college in a fictional Colorodo town, ran for 110 episodes across six seasons between 2009-2015, first on NBC...

It seems John Cena is quite serious about turning from a professional wrestler into a recognized actor, as the movies starring him took over the streaming platforms charts. These include Prime’s prominently top-tier comedy Ricky Stanicky, Apple TV’s Argylle and we’re not talking about the hyped Barbie, where he has made a hilarious cameo.
Gained enough credit as an actor by portraying Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad in 2021 and the eponymous 2022 television series, Cena is only starting to explore his acting talent. However, one of his last years’ movies shows it not from the best side.
Featuring Cena’s Mason Pettis, a former special forces operative, it follows him on a freelance gig in South America. There he needs to protect disgraced journalist Claire Wellington as she goes to the fictional authoritarian country to interview its dictator.
As it always happens in similar movies, nothing goes according to the plan,...

“Get ready for a wild night,” host Zooey Deschanel improvised, as she waited for the starry crowd to take their seats inside the tented dinner held in the backyard of a sprawling Beverly Hills estate on Tuesday. The actress kept things moving with a series of lighthearted jokes between awards. “It’s clear the world needs fashion more than ever because without fashion, all the problems of the world would still exist but everyone would be naked and naked is boring.”

Alison Brie has responded to Chevy Chase’s remarks about Community not being funny and “hard hitting” enough.
While appearing on Watch What Happens Live on Monday night, the Apples Never Fall star was asked by a fan what she thought about her former co-star’s comments.
Brie, who noted that the remark was made on her former Glow co-star Marc Maron’s Wtf podcast, of which she’s an avid listener, said she heard the comment live before it was covered online. “I actually think that was the better way to digest that information because I could hear Chevy’s tone,” she explained. “When you read it on a headline, it reads much harsher. I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s just Chevy being Chevy,’ and he’s entitled to his opinions and his experience of the show.”
The actress added that she doesn’t “take it personally.”

Rebel Wilson Says There’s No Amount of Money That Would Get Her to Work With Sacha Baron Cohen Again
There’s no amount of money that would get Rebel Wilson to work with Sacha Baron Cohen again.
Amid the release of her memoir Rebel Rising, which has made headlines for what she writes about Baron Cohen’s alleged inappropriate behavior while they were filming The Brothers Grimsby, Wilson appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where she played a round of “Plead the Fifth.” “How much money would it take for you to work with Sacha Baron Cohen again?” asked Andy Cohen.
“No money ever,” responded the Pitch Perfect star. “I have now a no a-holes policy with work.” Her remark was applauded by the audience and fellow guest Alison Brie. The host then mentioned a series of high sums to see if Wilson would do it, but the actress stood by her decision.

“Animal Control” star Joel McHale is keeping the vermin off his “Community” movie set. McHale told The Post that Chevy Chase is not welcome back for the upcoming Peacock movie adaptation.
“I don’t think he’s allowed to [return],” McHale said. “I don’t think it would happen. I don’t think [him returning] is a thing. Obviously his unceremonious departure in Season 4 pretty much did that in.”
McHale added: “I’m guessing if you asked him, he wouldn’t be interested” in starring in the movie.
The “Community” movie is the culmination of Dan Harmon’s preordained six-seasons-and-a-movie destiny for his NBC sitcom. The series debuted on March 14 and, in its first weekend on the platform, it racked up 400M minutes watched, according to Nielsen data.
That’ll place it at No. 5 among streaming originals on the upcoming Nielsen streaming charts. The series is also the No. 3 streaming original drama series in the U.S.
The Nielsen charts won’t be publicly available for another month, so it’ll be quite a while before there’s more details on how it stacked up against competitors’ streaming originals.
Since only four days of viewing were captured in this measurement interval, it’s possible that the series will maintain this spot or even move higher in its first full week of availability. It’s worth noting that all seven episodes were released at once, which usually means a series will fall off the...

Structurally, it was a brilliant conceit having six of the seven episodes of the “Apples Never Fall” limited series (currently streaming on Peacock) revolve around a different family member in this twisted jigsaw puzzle of a mystery. Score one for showrunner Melanie Marnich, who had a lot of bitter-tasting family dynamics to work with in adapting Liane Moriarty’s (“Big Little Lies”) page-turner novel. It’s about the tennis-obsessed Delaneys, who unravel when matriarch Joy (Annette Bening) suddenly disappears and hot-tempered patriarch Stan (Sam Neill) becomes the prime suspect in what eventually becomes a murder investigation.
As a result, their four adult children — Troy (Jake Lacy), Amy (Alison Brie), Logan (Conor Merrigan-Turner), and Brooke (Essie Randles) — are forced to confront their dysfunctional upbringing, competitive natures, and toxic relationships in realizing that they function more like a South Florida cult than a loving family.

Peacock’s Apples Never Fall, which is based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, tells the story of the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family. However, when Joy (Annette Bening) goes missing and dark secret after dark secret is revealed, we quickly see just how twisted this competitive family truly is. While it is in our nature as an audience to attempt to put the puzzle pieces together until the very end, this series gives us the answer fairly quickly, hiding it in plain sight as it throws other suspects in the path to distract us.
Why do we choose to ignore what’s clearly wrong right in front of us? It’s not only a question that the members of the Delaney family, specifically the kids, should be asking themselves when Joy does return, but the audience as well. While we could not...

Editor’s note: The below contains spoilers for the series finale of “Apples Never Fall.”
Still reeling from that “Apples Never Fall” ending? Well, actor Sam Neill is about to take a bite out of just how that shocking finale came to be – and (surprise) it wasn’t even the original conclusion planned by showrunner Melanie Marnich.
“Apples Never Fall” strayed from the Liane Moriarty novel source material, and due to the WGA strike in 2023, production was halted in Australia. Showunner Marnich told IndieWire that due to the strike, she was no longer on set as a writer and executive producer, but that the directors and actors continued until the SAG-AFTRA strike subsequently went into effect.
“They were true to the scripts which I really appreciated and they were so respectful,” Marnich recalled. “But then the actor strike hit and we of course shut down. Honestly, when we came back,...

Chances are you have heard of author Lianne Moriarty. If you haven’t read her novels, you likely have seen the series based on her books Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers. Comprised of ensemble casts involved in intricate murder mysteries, these series are a blend of dark comedy and biting melodrama and have become big hits thanks to stars ranging from Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, and more. Now, Moriarty’s recent novel Apples Never Fall becomes the latest to be adapted as a limited series (read our review).
Apples Never Fall follows the Delaney family, led by Stan (Sam Neill) and Joy (Annette Bening). Running a tennis club in Florida, the Delaneys are parents to Troy (Jake Lacy), Amy (Alison Brie), Logan (Conor Merrigan Turner), and Brooke (Essie Randles). Empty nesters who have just retired, Stan and Joy welcome in stranger Savannah (Georgia Flood) whose presence...

The Liane Moriarty cinematic universe has now come to Peacock, but how does one adapt the author behind “Big Little Lies” and “Nine Perfect Strangers” work for the screen?
“Apples Never Fall” showrunner Melanie Marnich told IndieWire that maintaining beloved novelist Moriarty’s “page-turner energy” was key for adapting the twisted family drama starring Annette Bening and Sam Neill.
“The pacing of those kinds of moments was to make the TV show have the same page-turner energy of the book,” Marnich said. “It was something I had to really be aware of. In the writer’s room, we worked really hard to craft the sort of constant turn of the story. It was so juicy. I’m a huge fan of Liane. I really, really worked to capture that same page turner energy in the show to keep things moving, but also never at the sacrifice of character development.”

The finale of “Apples Never Fall” on Peacock fills in all the gaps left behind by the six episodes before it by pulling back the curtains of what happened to missing matriarch Joy Delaney (Annette Bening) from her own perspective.
After Joy, mother and core of the Delaney family, goes missing, her husband Stan (Sam Neill) and four children — Amy (Alison Brie), Troy (Jake Lacy), Logan (Conor Merrigan Turner) and Brooke (Essie Randles) — are forced to hash out long-simmering resentments and regrets while trying to figure out where Joy went.
The series is divided into standalone episodes through each family member’s perspective, with Stan and Joy’s episodes being the climactic final two as the mystery finally comes together.
“Getting to the Joy and Stan of it, what is true is how many of us kids ever see our parents as people? Of course, you have the kid episodes,...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers for “Apples Never Fall,” now streaming on Peacock.
Known for her twisty and darkly humorous thrillers, Liane Moriarty is the author behind the source material for TV hits like HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers.” Like many of her stories, the newest Moriarty adaptation — Peacock’s “Apples Never Fall” — is centered on a suspenseful mystery, but showrunner Melanie Marnich was just as interested in what the author had to say about the complexities of family dynamics.
“You have to know these people love each other, otherwise they can’t cause each other pain,” Marnich told Variety at an early screening event for the series. “There’s a phrase in [Moriarty’s] book that’s something like: ‘You can love somebody and hate somebody. Both things can be true.’ You can look across the table at your husband, your wife or...

Alison Brie’s character Amy in “Apples Never Fall” does not operate like your typical eldest sibling. She lacks a steady source of income, is emotionally erratic and her housing situation is one shared with a group of graduate students.
But as the Peacock limited series’ third episode shows, she’s also perhaps the only Delaney with a healthy amount of emotional intelligence.
In the TV adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s 2021 novel of the same name, Joy Delaney (Annette Bening), matriarch of a competitive brood of tennis players, goes missing, prompting the four children and their father to revisit old wounds and unearth family secrets.

Australian author Liane Moriarty is known for her layered characters, complex family dynamics, and intriguing mysteries. After the success of her book-to-screen adaptation of Big Little Lies on HBO in 2017, she's been in high demand.
In 2021, Hulu adapted another novel, Nine Perfect Strangers, which expanded on the characters' arcs from the book. It became a hit because of the humor in the series.
Peacock's Apples Never Fall combines the best of both, but it was most like the book and a fun, binge-worthy watch. I couldn't stop watching because I couldn't wait to see the next twist.
Apples Never Fall explores the complexities of marriage and family when you peel back the layers. This isn't a cookie-cutter happy family. The Delaneys are raw and honest, but they love each other deeply.

A new miniseries has been announced, and it looks fantastic.
We look at the cast list. What do we see? Oh, another show starring Nicole Kidman. Or Jake Lacy. Or Kate Winslet. Or Betty Gilpin.
You get the idea.
Look, we get it. A miniseries has limited episodes to make an impact, and a recognizable name can be a big draw.
Since it's become commonplace for renowned movie actors to make the move to television, particularly miniseries, why wouldn't a studio jump on the chance to nab a big name?
It's a winning formula -- literally.
Nicole Kidman is an Oscar winner. What television producer wouldn't want her attached to their project?
She's also snagged a couple of Emmys for her work on HBO's Big Little Lies. She's proven her worth as a TV star.
The same can be said about Kate Winslet, who similarly made the jump from movies to television.

Throughout its six season run, "Community" encountered a genuinely impressive set of challenges. First of all, series creator, Dan Harmon, was kicked off his own show, which considering his behavior wasn't all that shocking. An admitted heavy drinker, Harmon also became notorious for what The Hollywood Reporter referred to as his "eleventh-hour rewrites, or 'Harmon passes,'" which he would foist upon the cast and crew during filming. Harmon also fell out with star Chevy Chase, and the show was known for its long shooting days and erratic schedule. No wonder Alison Brie described the "Community" set as "frantic, frenetic, chaotic"
Then, there was the constant threat of cancellation, which loomed over "Community" until the show was actually canceled by NBC after its fifth season. Yahoo's then-new streaming service, Yahoo! Screen, picked up the show for its sixth and final season that seemed destined to fail. And fail it did.

Just days after attending the 2024 Oscars as a best actress nominee for her performance in Nyad, Annette Bening is already on to her next project: starring in the Peacock limited series Apples Never Fall.
Based on the bestselling novel from Liane Moriarty — who also wrote Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers — the show follows former tennis coaches Joy (Bening) and Stan (Sam Neill) as they retire from their successful tennis academy and look forward to spending time with their four adult children (Jake Lacy, Alison Brie, Conor Merrigan-Turner and Essie Randles); everything changes, though, when Joy suddenly goes missing.
Bening, who also served as an executive producer, had never done a limited series before but was drawn to shooting to Australia and working on an ensemble type of project. And filming a year after Nyad, “I wanted to do something different and not in the water and not with swimming.

In the opening scene of Apples Never Fall, Joy Delaney (Annette Bening) takes a leisurely bike ride through West Palm Beach, Florida. She’s got the time, having recently retired after decades of coaching tennis alongside her husband, Stan (Sam Neill). Joy cycles by palm trees and mansions and stops to browse stands of impossibly perfect fruit. But as she passes tennis courts bustling with players, her mouth curves into a wistful frown.
A sense of melancholy nags at the superficial idyll of Joy’s excursion, only to burst into outright dread when we see her bike overturned in the street, its back wheel still spinning and its frame splattered with blood, and Joy nowhere to be found. This scene introduces an alluring air of mystery regarding Joy’s inner life and the nature of her seemingly utopian environment. Exclusive: Melanie Marnich is a huge fan of Big Little Lies scribe Liane Moriarty’s work, but when showrunning an adaptation of Moriarty’s Apples Never Fall, Marnich blocked the HBO hit from her consciousness almost entirely.
Peacock’s Apples Never Fall, which stars 2024 Oscar-nominee Annette Bening, launches tomorrow and is in international competition at next week’s Series Mania, was made with a Big Little Lies-free lens, Marnich explained to Deadline.
“I admire Big Little Lies and think it’s brilliant but I had to literally put it out my mind,” she said in the days leading up to the Lille market. “I knew I had to quite quickly ignore all [Moriarty’s past work] and ask what this book wants to be and what the best way is to honor it. How do I ignore all that came before to find the best voice and vision for this translation?”

“It’s important to remember that before Molly Ringwald was the iconic young star of John Hughes’ teen angst-driven comedies such as ‘Sixteen Candles,’ ‘Pretty in Pink’ and ‘The Breakfast Club,’ she first starred in Paul Mazursky’s contemporary update of Shakespeare’s ‘Tempest,’” said Steve Gaydos, Variety EVP of Global Content and Executive Editor. “This is important because the secret of Ringwald’s early success and career longevity is the simple fact she has always been one of American film and television’s most gifted and versatile actresses. Oscar-nominated “Nyad” star Annette Bening on Peacock? Well, sometimes miracles do happen.
“Apples Never Fall” creator Melanie Marnich wanted to swing big when it came to pitching her take on the Liane Moriarty thriller novel adaptation. Despite never having showrun before, she was determined to cast A-lister Bening as Joy Delaney, a tennis pro coach matriarch who goes missing. While all signs point to her husband Stan (Sam Neill) as the most likely culprit, Joy’s case unlocks further Delaney family secrets swirling around their four children, played by Jake Lacy, Alison Brie, Conor Merrigan-Turner, and Essie Randles.
Bening, in fact, was at the center of Marnich’s initial pitch to Peacock.
“When [producer] David Heyman was looking for writers for the project I was like, ‘I’m going for it. I want this one,'” Marnich told IndieWire. “I think in my initial pitch to him, I was like, ‘I see Annette Bening as Joy.
