U.K. production, sales and distribution outfit Signature Entertainment said Tuesday that it will be acquiring Latin American production and distribution company Particular Crowd, saying the “strategic acquisition aims to solidify Signature’s position as a key player in the global entertainment landscape.”
Financial details weren’t disclosed.
Created as an international original movie label of Warner Bros. Discovery, the L.A.- and Buenos Aires-based Particular Crowd banner “was spun out as an independent company to help it leverage its unique position and take advantage of opportunities across the global market, whilst maintaining a close relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery via a volume production deal,” the film development, production and co-financing company says about itself. “Its films are produced in English, Spanish or Portuguese and cover the popular genres of comedy, romantic comedy, horror, thriller, teen and family films.”
Particular Crowd’s recent successes include such releases as La Extorsión and Casi Muerta.

Production, sales and distribution banner Signature Entertainment is to acquire Latin American production and distribution outfit Particular Crowd.
Based in Los Angeles and Buenos Aires and originally set up as a label at Warner Bros. Discovery before being spun out as an independent company, Particular Crowd has achieved success in recent months with the releases of “La Extorsión” and “Casi Muerta.” Both films secured top positions at the box office for local titles and performed well on Max, where Particular Crowd’s movies are exclusively available locally under a volume deal the company has with Warner Bros. Discovery.
Upcoming Particular Crowd projects include Brazil’s “Evidências Do Amor,” which will be released theatrically this month by Warner Bros. and “Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires,” an original Warner Bros. Animation feature that places the DC superhero against the backdrop of Mexico’s history.

Particular Crowd, the fledgling U.S.-based film division from WarnerMedia’s Turner Latin America, has nabbed all Latin American rights to Argentine filmmaker Marcos Carnevale’s latest film, the dramedy “El Cuartito.”
Shot and produced entirely in Puerto Rico, “El Cuartito” refers to the security screening room that five Latinos are confined in when they run afoul of U.S. immigration authorities at Puerto Rico’s San Juan airport. Donald J. Trump was still president when film was made so his portrait hangs on the wall of the tiny room and is a key prop in the dramedy. “Vicious Fun” tracks Joel, a mordant 1980s film critic for a national horror magazine, who finds himself ensnared in a self-help group for serial killers. To avoid becoming the next victim, Joel tries to blend in with the murderous pack.

Miami — In a big, bold affirmation of the value of movies in a new TV world, WarnerMedia’s Turner Latin America, one of Latin America’s biggest pay TV operators, is launching Particular Crowd, a film production-acquisition company with a 90 English-language movie slate for 2020.
Based out of Los Angeles, Particular Crowd will make many of its movies available on TNT and Space, flagship Turner channels in Latin America.

Exclusive: Numan Acar, who appears in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far from Home, is set to play opposite Sam Worthington and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Seacole, the Charlie Stratton-directed indie based on the true-life story of Mary Seacole.
Acar was most recently seen in Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake and is currently shooting the last season of Homeland after spending four seasons on the Showtime series.
Seacole follows Mbatha-Raw as Mary Seacole, a pioneering Jamaican nurse who became known during the Crimean War for her care of wounded British soldiers. Seacole’s self-sacrifice on the front lines and fierce, adversarial relationship with Florence Nightingale during the war made her famous in her time.
Acar will play The Pasha, a high-ranking officer in the Turkish army, a lover not a fighter who helps Mary build her hotel.
Sylvia Hoeks and Sean Delaney also co-star.
Dianne Houston and Marnie Dickens co-wrote the script with Stratton.

Even though Nicholas Cage has made some really dubious choices in projects to appear in, he has also made a fair few cracking ones too. Confirmation has just come through that Cage will be starring in Mandy, an action thriller from Beyond the Black Rainbow helmer, Panos Cosmatos.
The new project, which is due to start filming this summer in Belgium is set in the primal wilderness of 1983, where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life and is being described as “Heavy Metal Story of Demon Bikers”
“Panos is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making,” said Noah, SpectreVision’s Head of Development. “Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Yesterday I got to meet ad interview new upcoming talent, Aneurin Banard for his new movie, Elfie Hopkins where he plays a geek opposite non-geek Jamie Winstone (it’ll go live next week). I then get home only to find that the man who I tipped for great things has been cast in this brand new movie opposite the likes of Michael Sheen, Lena Headey, Sam Neill, Ioan Gruffudd and Keeley Hawes. Aneurin will play the lead in this latest film called Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box which is based on the teen adventure series by G.P. Taylor.
Exciting news for him and we look forward to seeing more info from it when it’s released. In the meantime though, here’s the press release with all the ins and outs that you need to know!
