"Do you feel sorry about what you did?" The Orchard has debuted the official trailer for an indie drama titled Savage Youth, which premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival last year and stopped by a few other small festivals. The second feature from director Michael Curtis Johnson, Savage Youth is set in small town America following a group of young people. Based on a true story, six young lives collide in the most horrific and twisted of ways. Described as a "brutal examination of doomed youth exiled to society's edge." The film stars Grace Victoria Cox, Tequan Richmond, Will Brittain, Chloe Levine, Mitchell Edwards, J. Michael Trautmann, and Sasha Feldman. Looks like yet another forgettable kids-are-crazy indie flick. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Michael Curtis Johnson's Savage Youth, direct from YouTube: The lives of six troubled teens in a racially-divided town take a violent turn when drugs and broken hearts intermix.

Michael Trautmann, Dana Melanie and Daniel Fredrick. Treehouse is a suspense thriller from four time feature film director Michael Bartlett (The Zombie Diaries). The film was adapted to screen from Alex Child and Miles Harrington's script. Thoroughly suspenseful, Treehouse is a well-paced thriller, which brings a lot of emotion to the screen. A supernatural or malicious physical element is plaguing a pair of teenagers and tension is built by this threatening element. This title is a standout indie feature, because of its attention to directing techniques and the performances provided by actors J. Michael Trautmann and Dana Melanie.

Recently, I had the esteemed opportunity to chat with writer-director Matt Orlando, who has successfully shepherded his first feature film to the big screen. That would be A Resurrection, which follows a troubled teen, his psychologist, and the tangled web his school becomes embroiled in. The suspense-horror film stars Mischa Barton, J. Michael Trautmann, Devon Sawa, and was Michael Clarke Duncan’s final film. You can find our review for the film here, and can find it on VOD and in limited theatrical release now.
The following interview delves into how a first time director lucked into such a great cast, his feelings on Michael Clarke Duncan, his intentions making the film, its journey to fruition, and his upcoming horror projects (Surfing + horror).
FM: What were your inspirations growing up that made you want to be a filmmaker, and what in particular brought you to horror?

Considering he started off his career in the genre world, it's certainly fitting that now Jamie Kennedy is producing horror movies, including Matt Orlando's A Resurrection, which arrived in limited theaters this weekend.
Written and directed by first-time filmmaker Orlando, A Resurrection stars Mischa Barton, Devon Sawa, J. Michael Trautmann and Michael Clarke Duncan in his final role and follows a mentally ill student named Eli (Trautmann), who believes his recently deceased brother is returning from the grave for revenge on the students who killed him. The project was produced by Jamie Kennedy Entertainment and Levine Pictures.
Dread Central chatted with Kennedy earlier this week for Indie Horror Month to talk about his first indie horror production, A Resurrection, and what the future holds for Jamie Kennedy Entertainment as they continue to produce independent horror films. Since we had him on the phone, we couldn't help but get nostalgic...

In Mischa Barton’s new film, the girl who was once killed off the hit teen soap The Oc in a tragic car accident is now the one trying to solve the murder of a high schooler who was killed by — you guessed it — a car accident. A Resurrection stars Barton as a high-school guidance counselor who is forced to deal with a bullying situation that quickly turns into a murder investigation when a student is run-over by a car allegedly driven by a group of mean cool kids. Eli, the victim’s brother (J. Michael Trautmann), takes his dying...

A Resurrection is the story of a down to earth high school psychologist Jessie (Misha Barton) who tries to help a mentally ill student Eli (J. Michael Trautmann) who actually believes his brother is returning from the grave for revenge on the students who killed him. As he slowly feeds Jessie clues into his brother’s mysterious death, she has the sheriff’s deputy (Devon Sawa) verify the less than believable and vague information. As she tries to connect with Eli she unwittingly falls into his plot keeping her and the other students locked in the school until his brother along with the evil spirit that now inhabits him can take his six souls and leave him whole again.

Jessie (Mischa Barton), a school psychologist tries to help Eli (Jonathan Michael Trautmann) who believes his dead brother is coming back from the grave to avenge his death. Naturally, bedlam ensues.
Devon Sawa has continued to work in genre fare, somewhat regularly, since his breakout roles in Idle Hands and Final Destination. He was a familiar and welcome face in A Resurrection. Sawa turned in a good performance, as Travis. And Mischa Barton successfully broke the mold of the roles we’ve seen her play time and again. The late Michael Clark Duncan was excellent as the high school principal. The entire cast actually turned in above average and authentic performances. I was surprised that first time director Matt Orlando was able to round up such great talent for his directorial debut. The cast helped turn what could have been a run of the mill, low budget horror film in to something more than that.

"He's coming for you."
Last September, Academy Award–nominated actor Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile) passed away from complications he suffered after having a heart attack, leaving Hollywood to mourn the loss of the Daredevil and Green Lantern actor. Duncan left one last performance, that of a principal of a high school in the upcoming horror-thriller A Resurrection (formerly The Sibling).
The movie follows a troubled student Eli (J. Michael Trautmann) who is having a difficult time dealing with the death of his brother (Patrick de Ledebur), who was murdered by his classmates. Mischa Barton plays Eli's school psychologist, who tries to help Eli despite his assertions that his brother would be returning from the grave to seek revenge. And of course, as the movie's first trailer reveals, it looks like someone is certainly trying to kill the guilty party.
Next Showing: A Resurrection opens on March 22nd

This review originally ran last November when 96 Minutes played at The St. Louis International Film Festival
Racism is never an easy topic to tackle in any medium, so when you add class warfare and the peer pressure of gang culture to the story, it triples the difficulty of pulling off a believable and sincere film. Against the odds, this is precisely what first time writer and director Aimee Lagos has accomplished with 96 Minutes. Inspired by true events, 96 Minutes is a story of four young lives, each of them on separate paths which violently collide.
Brittany Snow (The Vicious Kind) plays Carley, an upper-middle class hard-working white college student studying law. Evan Ross (The Family Tree) plays Dre, a young black man from a gritty part of town whose determined not to fall into the gangster life, despite retaining his friendship with Kevin, played by Jonathan Michael Trautmann, a 16-year old...

Title: 96 Minutes Director: Aimee Lagos Starring: Brittany Snow, Evan Ross, Christian Serratos, J. Michael Trautmann, David Oyelowo If “Crash” were re-cast and re-imagined as an Atlanta-set teen drama about a carjacking gone awry, it might resemble something like “96 Minutes,” a wan thriller whose reach for socio-economic/ethnic insight and relevance far exceeds its meager grasp. Despite a few good moments and performances, overly familiar plotting and a dearth of insight doom this padded, grandiloquent melodrama, no matter its claim that it’s based on true events. A morality play of sorts, the movie focuses chiefly on a quartet of youngsters. Despite tough circumstances, Dre (Evan Ross) is set to graduate high [ Read More ]...

You might as well be prepared: “96 Minutes” is one of those multi-strand indie movies where the chronology is distorted, and you spend the runtime putting the pieces back together. You may be interested in just how every piece fits, how we got to a girl bleeding out in the back seat of a car (probably not). But it doesn’t matter, since the same complaint for this film is the one that can be used for others of its ilk, that being that none of these stories hold up on their own. But forget all that: we need to talk about Kevin.
In “96 Minutes,” Kevin is a young sixteen-year-old white teenager living in a somewhat lower-class area of the suburbs. He comes from your garden-variety broken home, where mom comes home wasted and the boyfriend follows hours later to wail on her as Kevin plays hyper-violent video games. If you...
