Boy Kills World looked to be a cool action flick – and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said it was in his 8/10 review, where he wrote, “I had a total blast with this demented actioner.” But even with producer Sam Raimi’s name on the film, it didn’t draw in much of an audience during its theatrical run. According to The Numbers, it only made $3 million worldwide. Now it’s heading to home video, where hopefully it will have more success. Boy Kills World is getting a digital release next week, on May 28th, and Amazon is already accepting pre-orders at This Link.

Amy Adams has been tapped to star in At the Sea, a new drama from Kornel Mundruczó and Kata Wéber — the director and writer of such acclaimed films as Pieces of a Woman and White God — as well as Hammerstone Studios, Ryder Picture Company and Ar Content.
Set to enter production in Boston in June, the film follows the life of Laura (Adams) after a long rehabilitation, as she returns to her family at their beach holiday home where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune and, most importantly, identity.
Pic will be produced by Alexander Rodnyansky of Ar Content, Stuart Manashil, Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett for Ryder Picture Company, Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici and Jon Oakes, and Viktória Petrányi and Mundruczó. Exec producers are Paul J. Diaz, Maria Breese of 3:33 Creative, Lee Broda of Lb Entertainment, Jeff Rice of Jeff Rice Films, and Michael Kupisk. Zsofi Oblath and Rachel Rubin will co-produce.
Ar Content, Paul J. Diaz, and Hammerstone Studios will finance the film, with WME Independent to rep domestic rights, Capstone Pictures handling international, and Sacker Law to oversee production legal.
A six-time Academy Award nominee, Adams most recently wrapped production on 3000 Pictures’ Klara and the Sun, the next film from Oscar winner Taika Waititi, which adapts the dystopian sci-fi story from Kazuo Ishiguro. Up next, she’ll be seen starring in Searchlight Pictures’ Nightbitch from filmmaker Marielle Heller, a dark comedy she also produced through her production company Bond Group Entertainment that hits theaters December 6.
A married director-writer pair out of Hungary, Mundruczó and Wéber are perhaps best known for their 2020 pregnancy drama Pieces of a Woman, which premiered in Venice and brought star Vanessa Kirby her first Oscar nomination following its release on Netflix. Prior to that, the duo collaborated on White God, which won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes in 2014; Jupiter’s Moon, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or; and Evolution, which also played the French festival. Separately, Mundruczó directed the pilot of the Apple TV+ limited series, The Crowded Room, starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried.
Most recently, Hammerstone produced the action thriller Boy Kills World starring Bill Skarsgård, which will release wide on April 26, and the horror-thriller Don’t Move, starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock, for Netflix.
Ryder Picture Company has produced acclaimed titles like Dumb Money and Bruiser.
Ar Content is known for Cannes prize winners like 2019’s Beanpole, from filmmaker Kantemir Balagov, and 2021’s Unclenching the Fists from Kira Kovalenko.
Adams is represented by WME, Linden Entertainment, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Mundruczó and Wéber are repped by United Agents and Novo.

Famke Janssen is not sure what Marvel has planned for the X-Men saga but doesn’t shut the door on the idea of reprising her role of Jean Grey / Phoenix.
Janssen originated the X-Men role in the 2000 film and would go on to play the mutant in 2003’s X2 and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. The actress also made cameos in 2013’s The Wolverine and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t expect to come back after dying as Jean Grey,” Janssen told ComicBook in an interview. “I came back as the Phoenix [The Last Stand], and I came back in flashback scenes in The Wolverine, and then in Days of Future Past.”
Janssen noted that reprising the role following the initial films “were all surprises that I never anticipated” and didn’t put past appearing in this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine,...

When director Damian Szifron’s serial killer thriller To Catch a Killer was first announced (under the title Misanthrope), Glen Basner – CEO of financier FilmNation Entertainment – said he believed the project could turn out to be “a decade defining film”. Distributor Vertical Entertainment has now announced that To Catch a Killer will be receiving a VOD release later this month. It will be available on all On Demand platforms as of May 16th.
The film stars Shailene Woodley (Divergent), Ben Mendelsohn (Captain Marvel), and Jovan Adepo (the Watchmen TV series).

Offering rides to strangers can often lead to trouble, and in Sympathy for the Devil, one driver is about to discover that not every passenger is worth picking up. Production is underway in Las Vegas on Sympathy for the Devil, starring Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman.
Yuval Adler directs from a script written by Luke Paradise (Lost on a Mountain in Maine). Sympathy for the Devil follows “The Driver” (Kinnaman), who finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being forced to drive a mysterious man, “The Passenger” (Cage). As their white-knuckle ride progresses, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems.
“This is a tour de force featuring two incredible actors,” said producer Allan Ungar. “As an acclaimed filmmaker, Yuval has assembled the perfect cast and brought a unique and gritty vision to this film that will be sure to capture audiences.

French director Olivier Assayas walked a tightrope with his 1996 unclassifiable, meta-moviemaking drama “Irma Vep.” It starred Hong Kong icon Maggie Cheung as herself, starring in a French film whose director was played by cinema legend Jean-Pierre Leaud, as they attempted to remake Louis Feuillade’s classic silent film serial “Les Vampires.” A treatise on Hollywood? A lampoon of the French film industry? A meta exercise in the negotiations between a major actress and a serious director? All of the above.
Now, Olivier Assayas is remaking his own movie for television with “Irma Vep,” coming to HBO and HBO Max on June 6 and now with Alicia Vikander in the role originated by Cheung. The show is first set to stop off at the Cannes Film Festival — Assayas’ stomping grounds with films like “Personal Shopper” and “Summer Hours” in competition and also the original “Irma Vep” in Un Certain Regard — before hitting the small screen.

HBO released the trailer for its upcoming limited series “Irma Vep,” from writer-director Olivier Assayas, based on his 1996 film of the same name. Starring Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (“Ex Machina”) and produced in partnership with A24, the series premieres June 6 on HBO and HBO Max.
Vikander plays Mira, an American film star fresh out of a relationship and disillusioned by her career. She comes to France to play the role of Irma Vep — an anagram for “vampire” — in a remake of the French silent film “Les Vampires.” As she takes on the role, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur, and Mira struggles to grasp the world around her.
Assayas’ original film starred Maggie Cheung as herself and functioned as commentary on the state of French cinema at the time. Like the limited series, the film debuted at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. HBO’s “Irma Vep” will...
