Actor Jamie Hector has played dozens of characters since costarring on The Wire in his breakout role as Marlo, a sinister drug dealer with a penchant for murder.
But Hector, who has had turns as everything from detectives to superheroes since the David Simon drama came to an end in 2008, credits the series for opening up a whole new world of acting on the big and small screen. This is one of the reasons he delighted in reuniting with Jermaine Crawford on this week’s We Own This City, he says.

“For All Mankind” will return for its third season on June 10, Apple TV Plus announced Monday.
Created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, the critically-acclaimed science fiction drama imagines an alternate history where Russia beat the United States in putting a man on the moon first. As a result of this historical divergence, the space race between the two countries never ends, leading to a world where both nations have advanced moon colonies staffed 24/7 and the Cold War has led to much quicker technological advances. The series focuses on the exploits of the astronauts and staff of NASA in this alternate universe, delving into both their professional and personal lives.
The first two seasons of “For All Mankind” covered a span of almost two decades, starting in 1969 and ending in the late ’80s. Season 3 again jumps ahead into the early ’90s, as the space race expands to the exploration of Mars.

Twenty years after “The Wire” revolutionized the TV landscape, the team behind the critically acclaimed HBO series returns to Baltimore with “We Own This City.”
Based on true events and adapted from Justin Fenton’s non-fiction book of the same name, “We Own This City” is developed by “The Wire” creator David Simon and George Pelecanos, also a producer and writer on that series. The limited series, directed by “King Richard” filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green, premieres April 25 on HBO. The cast includes Jon Bernthal, Jamie Hector, Josh Charles, and Wunmi Mosaku.
“We Own This City” chronicles the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force (Gttf), where corruption ran rampant amid policies of drug prohibition and celebrated mass arrests in lieu of detective work.
The Baltimore Police Department struggled to respond to crime with meaningful police work in the 2000s, giving itself over to mass arrest and drug warring instead.

“We Own This City!” would appear to be the chest-beating battle cry of a corrupt Baltimore Pd task force, as seen in the trailer for HBO’s upcoming crime drama from The Wire‘s David Simon and George Pelecanos.
Premiering Monday, April 25 at 9/8c, the six-episode limited series, which is based on the book by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, chronicles the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force, and the corruption and moral collapse that befell an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest were championed at the expense of actual police work.

"Janice - why you out here looking like My Little Pony, girl?" There is nothing like a scary white girl. This short first premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival (and hit BAMcinemaFest) and it's finally showing on the web this year after the director's first feature just played at the 2022 festival. Hair Wolf is a horror comedy short written & directed by filmmaker Mariama Diallo, and it's a must see stylish horror creation. Diallo's debut feature is called Master and just premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival last month - I really enjoyed it and can't wait for everyone to get a look at it. This short shows how talented she is and I'm glad she's working on more film projects. And don't miss Master. Hair Wolf stars Kara Young, Taliah Webster, Trae Harris, Madeline Weinstein, and Jermaine Crawford. Highly recommend watching. Thanks to Vimeo Staff Picks for the tip on this one.

The Wire’s Michael K. Williams broke the news that co-star Robert F. Chew (“Proposition Joe”) has died, quietly passing along a short statement on his death via a photo on his Instagram account (picked up by Uproxx), captioned, “R.I.P. to the talented Mr. Robert Chew #propjoe.” Williams’ sentiments were quickly echoed by other members of the cast, in tweets from Wendell Pierce, Jamie Hector, and Jermaine Crawford. These were followed by this obituary in the Baltimore Sun that confirms Chew died of heart failure at the age of 52, and includes some typically lengthy thoughts from David ...

Propagated by doofi (the plural of doofus), the fraternities of Seven Oaks have de-evolved into a state of idiocracy; the situation is so grim that two male characters do not even know the names of the basic colors. (Did writer-director Whit Stillman's name of one of these dimwits Thor [Billy Magnussen] as a reference to the Norse god or the Avenger?) We can only assume that this fictional New...

Here's the first trailer to a new film written and directed by Whit Stillman called Damsels in Distress. The movie is a quirky kind of indie comedy that stars Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, Analeigh Tipton, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Carrie MacLemore, Hugo Becker, Billy Magnussen, Ryan Metcalf, Jermaine Crawford, and Aubrey Plaza.
The movie looks like it could be entertaining, this is the first film Stillman has made in 14 years. The last movie he made was The Last Days of Disco back in 1998. Just to give you some perspective, this is the guy that inspired filmmakers such as Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach.

Tiff 2011: Ricky D’s 10 Alternative Picks #5: Three clips from Whit Stillman’s ‘Damsels In Distress’
Would you believe it has been 13 long years since Whit Stillman’s last film, the much overlooked and highly underrated Last Days of Disco. The director first broke into the scene with Metropolitan in 1990 which received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay launching him to the forefront of the American independent filmmaking movement of the ’90s. Now his fourth film, Damsels In Distress, is expected to be released in 2011, and is screening at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival. This time around, mumblecore alum Greta Gerwig stars as Violet, the know-it-all leader of a group of alpha girls at an elite East Coast liberal arts college. The film is essentially about three young women at the university who become romatically entangled with three young men. There is a reason why Damsels In Distress was chosen as the closing night film at Venice, and to quote one of my colleagues, “Stillman is...

Last I reported, the pilot was set to be made by CBS, produced by Jj Abrams’ Bad Robot production company, written by Jonah Nolan, and starring Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson. Since then CBS has picked up the show to series and announced that it will be debuting this fall. It will be pushing veteran CSI out its marquee time-slot of 10 years; Thursdays 9:00 at Pm. This goes to show you the confidence CBS has in the show, with many claiming that the network is using it has its front-runner for its new fall line-up. We’ve also learned that...

Chicago – “Deadwood” and “The Wire”, two of the best television programs of the last decade, have been given lavish, must-own treatment by HBO with spectacular season sets available just in time for the holidays.
HBO has been criticized for stretching their shows out over too many discs with bloated season sets that take up twice the actual shelf space as most shows with double the actual episodes. The three seasons of Deadwood take up more than a foot of shelf space for only 36 episodes. But when shows have run their course, HBO Home Video does a spectacular job of compressing everything previously available into a well-packaged and space-saving complete series set.
Whether or not simply saving space and providing only a few new special features is worth the upgrade depends on how rabid a fan of “Deadwood” and “The Wire” you are, but if there’s anyone in your circle...

Can you list the most underrated teen stars of this century, like maybe Leighton Meester, or, uh, Brenda Song? —F.S.G. If I say Leighton Meester, will you stop sending me questions about Brenda Song? Please? Do we have a deal? Meantime, forget Miley Cyrus. Rent season four of The Wire and check out Jermaine Crawford, now 16, and the ridiculously hot, cradle-robbery-worthy Tristan Wilds, 19, who's currently being wasted on the revamped 90210. I am a huge Jonas Brothers fan, and I was wondering if either Joe or Kevin voted? If so, who did they vote for? I'm hoping that if they did vote that they voted for John McCain. —Bethany Per their publicist, "We don't...

Recently, reports about a spin-off for the 1990's most popular teen soap, Beverly Hills 90210 circulated. Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas was hired to write the pilot for the spin-off, which would hopefully be picked up by one of the major networks. In fact, as the pilot is currently in the works, casting rumors and announcements have circulated, bringing into discussion names such as Tristan Wilds, Michael Steger and teenybopper Hilary Duff. One thing's for sure though, The Wire actor is certainly taking the lead on the newest remake of all time.
Hot off the press is news about the 19-year-old Tristan Wilds, who plays Michael Lee on The Wire. In the HBO series, Wilds plays a troubled young man who struggles to support his younger brother and drug-dependent mother. Battered by the past, he forces himself to move forward with the help of his friends, Namond (Julito McCullum), Randy (Maestro Harrell...

The following piece discusses the series finale of "The Wire" (which aired Sunday on HBO). If you're a "Wire" fan, I recommend watching the finale before reading what's below.
An image has been in my mind since I watched the series finale of “The Wire.” It’s a scene of a character named Dukie preparing to shoot up drugs.
It’s only a brief glimpse at Dukie’s fate, but it’s heartbreaking.
We met Dukie (Jermaine Crawford) and three other eighth-grade boys two years ago, in Season 4 of “The Wire.” He was a shy, smart, gawky youth who didn’t quite fit in on the tough streets of West Baltimore.
He blossomed when his teacher, a former cop, started giving Dukie clean clothes and soap and showing him how to use a computer. As he gained confidence and shed some of his reticence, it was impossible not to care about Dukie,...
