Based on its setup, The New Daughter would appear to be a ghost story. A troubled novelist moves his two children into a large and isolated house in rural South Carolina, and immediately they start to experience things that cannot be so readily explained. The audience might soon expect to see spirits of the dead haunting the film’s family, yet the fact is, something else entirely lurks on this cursed property.
Kevin Costner was coming off positive reviews for his villainous role in the psychological thriller Mr. Brooks when he was cast as the father in The New Daughter. Sevendust have unleashed “Everything,” the first official single off the band’s upcoming studio album, Truth Killer, out July 28th via Napalm Records. The track follows the previously released teaser track “Fence,” which arrived last month.
The music video for “Everything” features band members Lajon Witherspoon, Clint Lowery, John Connolly, Vince Hornsby, and Morgan Rose performing the track, and it also brings the hypnotic album cover to life.
Musically, “Everything” is both heavy and melodic, with a huge, soaring chorus and Witherspoon’s powerful lead vocals, along with additional singing and screaming by Lowery and Rose, respectively.
A press release on the new album promises it will offer “the classic Sevendust sound with modern updates, pointing their lyrical lens at the world today and showcases the musical diversity that has won the band a legion of loyal fans.”

Grammy Award-nominated metal legends Sevendust are back with their 14th studio album Truth Killer, slated for worldwide release on July 28 via the band’s new label, Napalm Records.
The announcement comes with the first single and music video for “Fence”, which re-animates the band as zombies in a claymation epic (directed by Ollie Jones) that calls to mind Bloody Disgusting’s V/H/S/99. In the video, a venue is contaminated with toxic waste, turning people into the undead and pitting them against the band. The entire is quite the finale!
Here’s the video with full deets below.

Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment helped shape the childhoods of kids who grew up in the '80s and '90s with films like E.T., Back to the Future, and Jurassic Park. The production company creates a special brand of magical entertainment for kids. They are getting back into action with films like Jurassic World and The Bfg, and now they are developing another project called The Gates that could be a whole new family friendly sci-fi franchise.
The project is based on a novel by John Connolly and producer Michael De Luca has hired Blaise Hemingway to adapt the script. The Gates is the first of a trilogy that Amblin acquired last fall. The story follows an 11-year-old boy named Samuel Johnson who teams up with an outcast demon to stop hell on Earth. Here's a full story description from the first book in the series:

Amblin Entertainment has set Blaise Hemingway to adapt the John Connolly novel "The Gates" into a feature that could launch a potential franchise.
The middle grade science fiction novel trilogy follows an 11-year-old boy named Samuel Johnson and an outcast demon, who together must stop hell on Earth after escaped energy from the Hadron Collider pokes a hole in the proverbial time-space continuum.
Michael De Luca will produce the property which will adapt the two subsequent novels "The Infernals" and "The Creeps" should the first be a success.

You may have noticed, yesterday's start to my list of this year's most anticipated movies got off to a bit of a cynical start. Well, I hope to change that with today's batch of ten films as I think we are getting into better and better territory and a group of films I feel far more genuinely excited to see, and a couple of which that may end up being the most talked about films of the year. Again, featured directly below is a navigation for this year's most anticipated feature, linking to yesterday's ten films and I will be updating it with links for the installments to come. Chicago – From “The Exorcist” to “Orphan,” the horror genre has a long history of films about a young lady becoming something truly dangerous. The latest, “The New Daughter,” comes courtesy of the man who wrote the great “[Rec]” and stars Kevin Costner and Ivana Baquero (“Pan’s Labryinth”). Sadly, after a strong set-up and with gorgeous cinematography throughout, “The New Daughter” flounders in cliches and ends up too dull to be terrifying.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0
Costner plays single father John James, a man who moves to an old house in South Carolina with his daughter Louisa (Baquero) and son Sam (Gattlin Griffin). Faced with the struggle of fatherhood after his wife left her family would be scary enough but Louisa also happens to be on the cusp of adolescence, which allows writer John Travis (“The Haunting of Molly Hartley”), working from a short story by John Connolly, to play with the classic...

But when events around the James household start taking on an increasingly mysterious nature, John realizes that his family may be in mortal danger. The New Daughter, from Anchor Bay studios, will release May 18th on DVD and Blu-Ray formats, but what of the reviews? The Boston Globe newspaper describes The New Daughter as "few anticipated this under-the-radar supernatural thriller" (Boston). Apparently the film appeared in theatres without notifying anyone. Brad Miska, the managing editor at Bloody-Disgusting, says of The New Daughter: "I have to wonder why they even bothered...if no one came for the party" (Bloody)? So, there is a wide gamut of impressions on the film. With a large grace period between now and the release date, fans can do a little more digging to find out if the DVD is one of Anchor Bay's better releases.

Remember when Kevin Coster was considered by Hollywood to be a huge box office draw? No? Well it's true. And even if Costner's star appeal is on the decline, I'm still surprised to hear his new thriller, The New Daughter, is getting an extremely limited release. Tomorrow.

We’ve been very lax on getting you guys any updates about the upcoming thriller The New Daughter, mainly because every time I see a pic from it with Kevin Costner looking off into the distance, I get flashbacks of The Postman and have to curl up into a ball for an hour or so. Not very productive, that.
John Travis, who co-scripted The New Daughter, talked to Fangoria recently about his thoughts on the film, and it inspired me to move past my hang-ups and start talking about it again. For those unsure, Costner plays a father who relocates his daughter (Pan’s Labyrinth starlet Ivana Baquero) and son to a farm in South Carolina. Once there, a mysterious mound that the father believes to be an Indian burial mound is discovered on the property, the source of which turns out to be much worse than any of them imagined.

Word has come down via Variety this morning that a director has been chosen to helm Sanctuary, the Stephen Susco-scripted adaptation of John Connolly’s novel Bad Men.
Said helmer is none other than John Stockwell, who last underwhelmed us with 2006’s Turistas, but will hopefully show that it was just a fluke and he really can direct a good scary movie. He more than likely won't have hot girls in bikinis to fall back on like he did for Turistas and Blue Crush, which should force him to grow.
Sanctuary is the story of a woman who seeks the titular refuge on the eponymous island off the coast of Maine. Of course, the island is said to be haunted, which she soon finds out the hard way is very true.
