Boy Kills World is an extremely stylized dystopian action thriller revenge film directed by Moritz Mohr from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers. Based on the story by Remmers and Mohr, the brilliant action film is set in a dystopian film where the Van Der Koy family rules the city. We follow the story of a young boy known only as Boy who is hell-bent on becoming a living breathing weapon to take revenge against the Van Der Koy family. Boy Kills World stars Bill Skarsgård in the lead role with Jessica Rothe, Andrew Koji, Famke Janssen, H. Jon Benjamin, Yayan Ruhian, Cameron Crovetti, Michelle Dockery, Brett Gelman, Quinn Copeland, and Sharlto Copley starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved the stylized action, dark comedy, and brutal violence in Boy Kills World here are some similar films you could watch next.

Plot: Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal conjunction of the spheres, when the planets of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
Review: The appeal of The Witcher has been, at least for me, the performance of Henry Cavill. Having read the novels that inspired the video game and television series, seeing Geralt of Rivia embodied by an actor with as much presence as Cavill elevated the series from a pulpy distraction to destination viewing. Before Cavill’s third and final season as Geralt premieres in mid-2023, the first live-action spin-off series arrives on Christmas to tell the tale of how the Witchers came to be. Blood Origin, a four-episode prequel set twelve centuries before the main series, is...

Created and executive produced by Guillermo del Toro, the anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is now available to watch in its entirety, as all eight episodes have been released through the Netflix streaming service. And director Vincenzo Natali would like you to know that there is a black and white version of his episode Graveyard Rats on there as well. You just have to go searching for it a little bit.
Natali took to Twitter to inform us, “A reminder: Graveyard Rats is available in glorious Black & White in the ‘Trailers & More’ section of the Netflix Cabinet of Curiosities menu. I like the color version but this is the way I intended it to be viewed. Colin Hoult’s cinematography is gorgeous.“

This review contains spoilers for Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities: “The Viewing”
If you’ve seen Panos Cosmatos’ films Beyond the Black Rainbow and Mandy, you might have already had an idea of what you were in for before you hit play on his Cabinet of Curiosities installment, “The Viewing,” and that’s a wild, surreal ride with you in the passenger seat and no seatbelt. Cosmatos continues to speed down this particular genre avenue, and its one that has intoxicated his burgeoning fan base as the director always puts such a distinctive visual and aural stamp on his projects. There’ll be a woozy atmosphere hogging a fairly straightforward plot, dialogue just vague enough for your confusion to linger throughout, and a retro, claustrophobic and saturated color palette that makes you feel like you’re constantly trying to outrun something bad in a nightmare.
Incredibly, Cosmatos is...

Guillermo del Toro joins the ranks of episodic genre anthology curators like Alfred Hitchcock and Rod Serling with his “Cabinet of Curiosities.” Del Toro assembles a Murderers’ Row of horror filmmakers for his limited anthology series, each story contained within his ornate oddities cabinet. That singular, eponymous item doesn’t just anchor the anthology but serves as a visual representation of the type of vintage scary story collection that “Cabinet of Curiosities” unfurls.
Del Toro introduces each selected tale like a sophisticated carnival barker. A short monologue ensues as the genre maestro opens his cabinet and plucks out a representative item for each curated story along with a carved figurine of its director. Series creator and executive producer del Toro hand selected each story and director, uniting their distinct visions through a recurring theme of hidden, shifting realities. The episodes range from the macabre to classic frights to the fantastical,...

Netflix was the most talked about streaming service for the week of Sept. 19 to 25 thanks to the debut of “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” The Ryan Murphy-created series rose to the top of Variety’s Trending TV chart following its full season debut on Sept. 23 with more than 918,000 engagements on Twitter.
Over the weekend, the show shot to No. 1 on the streamer’s most-watched list in countries around the world. As some learned more about the story of the real-life serial killer through Evan Peters’ portrayal, others pleaded with viewers not to fantasize about him or romanticize the killer simply because of the actor portraying the figure. Many more urged people to remember the victims: the 17 men and boys that Dahmer was convicted of killing in 1992.
#DahmerNetflix is out, let’s not romanticize Jeffrey Dahmer just because he is played by Evan Peters.

A pioneering, revolutionary titan of the cinematic form, Jean-Luc Godard has passed away at the age of 91, as reported by French newspaper Liberation. The paper also reported he died by assisted suicide in Switzerland, where it is authorized and supervised. “He was not sick, he was simply exhausted,” noted a relative of the family. “So he had made the decision to end it. It was his decision and it was important for him that it be known.”
Born on December 3, 1930, Godard would go on to become a film critic for Cahiers du Cinéma before changing the very language of the cinematic medium with his French New Wave contributions, including Breathless, Vivre Sa Vie, Contempt, Band of Outsiders, Alphaville, Pierrot le Fou, and many more. Going through an evolution virtually every decade, the director recently delivered the most radical usage of 3D in a film yet with Goodbye to Language in 2014 and his last feature,...

In some ways the ultimate Nicolas Cage movie, Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy, gives the go-for-broke actor plenty of room to rage. Cage plays “Red”, a lumberjack seeking retribution for the unspeakable murder of his girlfriend—and the bloodier the revenge, the better (a chainsaw fight propels the hallucinatory climax). Andrea Risebourough plays the star-crossed Mandy, Cosmatos and Aaron Stewart-Ahn wrote the screenplay.

Netflix had announced that the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin, which is set in “an elven world” 1200 years before the events we saw in The Witcher, would have a six episode run. But now the Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligance reports that they’ve heard the show is being condensed from six episodes down to four.
Here’s the Redanian Intelligence report:
Keep in mind that the footage was already shot as six episodes, which likely means heavier editing and potentially lots of footage on the cutting room floor. To support that, we learned the writing credits for all of the Blood Origin episodes and they go like this:
Episode 1: Declan de Barra
Episode 2: Alex Meenehan/Aaron Stewart-Ahn
Episode 3: Tania Lotia/Kiersten Van Horne
Episode 4: Declan de Barra/Tasha Huo

Guillermo del Toro’s twisted fairytales come to life just in time for Halloween season.
The Oscar winner’s highly-anticipated horror anthology series “Cabinet of Curiosities” debuts October 25 with a four-day, double-episode event on Netflix. Co-showrunner, creator, and executive producer Del Toro curates eight stories of unprecedented terror expected to upend the genre itself.
Filmmakers onboard the horror omnibus project include genre favorites like Jennifer Kent (“The Babadook”), Panos Cosmatos (“Mandy”), Ana Lily Amirpour (“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”), Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight”), and Vincenzo Natali (“Splice”).
Per Netflix, the series ranges from the “macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy” across the “sinister” anthology which includes two original stories by del Toro. Co-showrunner J. Miles Dale (“The Shape of Water”) also executive produces the series, as well as Gary Ungar. Regina Corrado serves as co-executive producer

Ever since it started streaming on Netflix, S S Rajamouli’s blockbuster ‘Rrr’ has been acquiring a growing international fan following. The latest fan is Edgar Wright, the director known for his zombie-comedy film ‘Shaun of the Dead’, who recently saw the movie on the big screen and was left mightily impressed with its scale, grandeur and storytelling.
He took to Twitter and wrote: “Finally saw @RRRMovie on the big screen at the @BFI with a great crowd. What an absolute blast. So entertaining. The only film I have ever seen where the intermission card itself got a round of applause.” BFI is the British Film Institute.
Earlier, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ actor Joseph Morgan has showered praise on ‘Rrr’. He called it an “absolute masterpiece”. Other notable names to have praised ‘Rrr’ are director-writer Aaron Stewart Ahn, Jon Spaihts (the writer of ‘Doctor Strange’ and ‘Dune’) and screenwriter C. Robert Cargill.

Updated with latest reactions: Alan Parker, who died today at 76, was remembered Friday by colleagues and friends, with Andrew Lloyd Webber calling his Evita collaborator “one of the few directors to truly understand musicals on screen” and Matthew Modine, who starred in Parker’s 1984 drama Birdy, praising the director as a “great artist” who “transformed” the actor’s life.
And Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher explained the pivotal role Parker played in his life by casting the then-nine-year-old Fletcher as “Babyface” in 1975’s Bugsy Malone.
In a statement, Fletcher said:
Sir Alan inadvertently changed my life at the age of 9 when he stuck me at the end of a line of 30 kids, passing a baseball bat, all whilst saying ‘Give this to Babyface’. He told me to say something different on every take He generously made each moment unique and fun...

Christopher Nolan must have gotten tired of being called a grocery store manager on Twitter because he has released a statement refuting Anne Hathaway’s claim that he does not allow chairs on set.
The meme was created earlier this week from a “Les Miserables” reunion between Hathaway and Hugh Jackman for Variety’s TV series “Actors on Actors.” Hathaway, who worked with Nolan on “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Interstellar,” said during the interview that the filmmaker doesn’t allow chairs on set because he believes that “if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they’re sitting, they’re not working.”
“I mean, he has these incredible movies in terms of scope and ambition and technical prowess and emotion. It always arrives at the end under schedule and under budget. I think he’s onto something with the chair thing,” added Hathaway.

Christopher Nolan does not ban chairs from his movie sets, a spokesperson for the director has confirmed to IndieWire. Social media buzz over an alleged chair ban on Nolan’s sets erupted June 29 after Variety published an “Actors on Actors” video interview between Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman in which the former complimented Nolan’s decision not to allow chairs on set. Hathaway has appeared in Nolan’s blockbusters “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Interstellar.”
“For the record, the only things banned from [Christopher Nolan’s] sets are cell phones (not always successfully) and smoking (very successfully),” Nolan’s spokesperson Kelly Bush Novak of ID said in a statement. “The chairs Anne was referring to are the directors chairs clustered around the video monitor, allocated on the basis of hierarchy not physical need. Chris chooses not to use his but has never banned chairs from the set. Cast and crew can sit wherever...

Christopher Nolan’s “no chairs on set” rule has gone viral after the director’s “Interstellar” and “The Dark Knight Rises” actress Anne Hathaway brought it up during a recent interview with Hugh Jackman on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” video series. Nolan fans have known about the rule for quite some time, as “Dunkirk” actors Mark Rylance and Barry Keoghan told The Independent in 2017 that Nolan bans chairs and water bottles on set. Hathaway appeared complimentary about Nolan’s decision.
“He doesn’t allow chairs, and his reasoning is, if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they’re sitting, they’re not working,” the Oscar-winning actress said “I mean, he has these incredible movies in terms of scope and ambition and technical prowess and emotion. Oh, Mandy. Well, you kissed me and stopped me from shaking.
And I need you today. Oh, Mandy!
Lots of fun things have been said about the life, and the career of Nicholas Cage. He came from Hollywood royalty to be feted for his early works, such as Leaving Las Vegas before surviving a string of comically (and fascinatingly) bad performances in awful films have put his whole career up to be dismissed. The trouble is, his casually frantic facial expressions and voice often cause his performances to go all the way up to 11 in the first few minutes of a picture, and once you have done that you are leaving nowhere to go. People love to watch a successful and rich person’s career implode, but in Cage’s case it is genuinely interesting, how can he be so good and then so bad? A particularly hilarious, and awful...

Anna Karina, the French New Wave icon, has died at age 79, leaving behind an indelible body of cinema’s most charming and even radical work — including director Jean-Luc Godard’s “A Woman Is a Woman,” “Pierrot Le Fou,” “Alphaville,” “Vivre Sa Vie,” “Band of Outsiders,” “Le Petit Soldat,” and more.

The re-dubbed version of cult-classic ’90s anime series “Neon Genesis Evangelion” hit Netflix on Friday, but as many fans quickly noticed, its iconic “Fly Me to the Moon” outro wasn’t along for the ride — at least not in all territories.
Instead of hearing Karaoke-style covers of the Frank Sinatra hit, which is what was originally used for the series’ closing credits, U.S. subscribers were treated to a piano version of another track from the show’s score. “Fly Me to the Moon” was also replaced in other parts of episodes where it was originally included as background music.
However, Twitter users noted that this change isn’t universal, as Netflix Japan’s version of “Neon Genesis Evangelion” does have the original outro music.

Now in its 36th year, the Miami Intl. Film Festival continues to reflect the cultural vitality and international mindset of its home city. For festival director Jaie Laplante, the programming’s decidedly global focus is a way of accurately representing the city.
“Miami is a very dynamic and cosmopolitan place, really a crossroads between Europe and Latin America,” he says.
This year’s edition, which runs from March 1-10, will showcase more than 160 films from more than 40 different countries.
“We’ve always had a special affinity for works from the Ibero-American world — Spain, Portugal, the Caribbean, Central America, South America,” Laplante says. “It’s a reputation that has been built up over the years.”

Busting out of the gate at Sundance this past January, Panos Cosmatos' Mandy, starring Nicolas Cage, drew huge attention, especially, I suspect, from those who had disregarded Beyond the Black Rainbow, which was gorgeous and haunting in both spirit and visuals. And the passage of some eight years may have lowered expectations as well. In its simplest terms, Mandy is a tale of horrible, well-deserved revenge wrought by the character embodied by Cage. Under the raw yet elegant direction of Cosmatos, working from a script he concocted with Aaron Stewart-Ahn and bolstered by the less-heralded Andrea Riseborough, the film becomes a reckless fever dream. In his review for Screen Anarchy, Noel Lawrence noted: "Mandy may prove divisive; some people will have trouble processing a genre...

Taking place in 1983, Red Miller is a lumberjack who lives in a secluded cabin in the woods. His artist girlfriend Mandy spends her days reading fantasy paperbacks. Then one day, she catches the eye of a crazed cult leader, who conjures a group of motorcycle-riding demons to kidnap her. Red, armed with a crossbow and custom Axe, stops at nothing to get her back, leaving a bloody, brutal pile of bodies in his wake.
In recent years, it’s become increasingly harder to differentiate between what’s a profound performance of Nicolas Cage or the rage infilled meme that he’s become, to shockingly effective outcomes. The lines are blurred, to say the least, with every stoic and atmospheric...

Director: Panos Cosmatos. Writers: Panos Cosmatos and Aaron Stewart-Ahn. Cast: Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough, Linus Roache, Ned Dennehy, Bill Duke and Olwen Fouéré. Eight years have passed since Panos Cosmatos brought Beyond the Black Rainbow to screens. I was incredibly fortunate to have been able to experience Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy at its world premiere screening at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival this past January, and it’s a film that hasn’t left my psyche since. Cosmatos’ directorial follow-up to Beyond the Black Rainbow features stunning performances from both Nicolas Cage and Andrea Riseborough, and is truly unlike any other movie that you will see this year.
In anticipation of Mandy’s upcoming theatrical release on September 14th, I had the chance to speak with Cosmatos about the influences behind his latest feature, his experiences working with both Cage and Riseborough, as well as several key creative collaborators, including cinematographer Benjamin Loeb, co-writer Aaron Stewart-Ahn and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who sadly passed away earlier this year, and why he never imagined getting back into the director’s chair after Beyond the Black Rainbow.
