As I mentioned back in June, Miss Melanie De Biasio truly transcends description and/or refuses to be boxed into any one musical genre. Her latest nine-track album Lilies was released last month. This captivating Belgian artist incorporates jazz, classical, nufolk, even electronica into her musically rich vocabulary to create her truly unique and atmospheric sound; imagine Nina Simone meets Talk Talk.
Like the video above for her smoldering ballad "Your Freedom Is The End of Me," the tension she creates with minimum accompaniment of voice, bass, drums and piano is so dynamic on this track as well as the slow-burning, 6:41 long "All My Words," and the spoken-word poetry of "And My Heart Goes On," that I can't help but wonder if she might be paying homage to the early Roxy Music classic "In Every Dreamhome A Heartache". Moreover, the finger snaps and naked vocal brilliance of "Sitting In...

Stars: Pierce Brosnan, James Frecheville, Anna Friel, Stefanie Scott, Jason Barry, Brian F. Mulvey, Martin Hindy, Clare-Hope Ashitey, David McSavage | Written by Dan Kay, William Wisher | Directed by John Moore
When his daughter complains about their home’s dodgy Internet connection, high-flying executive Mike Regan (Pierce Brosnan) brings in I.T. guy Ed (James Frecheville). Overestimating the breadth of their friendship – by assuming that they have one – the spurned tech guy turns stalker, using his computer skills to infiltrate and attack the family on every level. They’re gonna need a better firewall.
It may have a grizzled, craggy former James Bond as the lead, but this is no Taken riff. In spite of its ultra high-tech trappings, I.T. is a remarkably old-fashioned stalker movie, reminiscent of the likes of Prey, Pacific Heights, One Hour Photo or, um, The Cable Guy. It’s the sort of thing you might see Nicolas Cage...

DJ Snake has earned such a reputation as a hitmaker in recent years that his latest release is bound to garner some attention – whether or not it’s actually deserving of it. The French DJ/producer has offered up “Talk,” which features vocals from Australian songstress George Maple that originally came from her 2014 track, “Talk Talk.”
First of all, how is this song not listed as a remix? DJ Snake’s 2013 remix of AlunaGeorge’s “You Know You Like It” featured entirely different production elements than the original, but even then he didn’t list it as an original track. “Talk,” meanwhile, borrows heavily from the chord progressions of its source material, so to imply that it’s an original track seems kind of unfair.
For that matter, the sound design of DJ Snake’s reimagining doesn’t come close to competing with that of the original. Its sample pack-y...

Ever get a feeling of déjà vu while you're watching The X Factor? That's because after 11 series and hundreds of contestants, the live shows have seen a whopping 728 tracks performed so far. But like a wedding DJ reaching for his failsafe party anthems CD, the top five most popular songs have been dusted off and rolled out over 33 times between them.
Our geeky rules state that we're counting all live show performances and group songs, but not repeat performances from the same act in the same series.
=5. 'Feeling Good': 6 performances
Performed by: Beverley Trotman, Rachel Hylton, Stacey Solomon, James Arthur, Rebecca Ferguson, Andrea Faustini
Made famous by Nina Simone, this classic usually pops up in the traditional 'Big Band Week', and is a good excuse for an act to show off their sultry side. Stacey had a go with Michael Bublé in 2009, while Andrea tried out a more powerhouse version last year.

The Siouxsie and the Banshees singer's haunting, strings-laden track was spearheaded by the serial killer show's music supervisor Brian Reitzell, who spoke to Entertainment Weekly (via Pitchfork) about how he coaxed Sioux to record the track despite the singer stating she hadn't written a song or entered the studio in nearly a decade.

Londoners were treated to a surprise performance on Wednesday 17th June 2015 as more than 50 dancers descended across the capital to take part in the UK’s biggest Bollywood ‘flash mob’ its seen. Starting with just six dancers, the ‘flash mob’ group quickly grew, with the performers emerging from all corners of the crowd dancing to catchy Bollywood tunes, as bystanders looked both delighted and bemused.
Calling themselves BollyMobUK, the dancers, mainly students from the Shiamak Davar’s London Dance Academy, stated they were inspired when watching the popular Indian dance show Nach Baliye on Star Plus (literal translations “Dance with me my beloved”).
Gurjeev Singh Kapoor, President – Star International said: “We are extremely pleased that one of our ongoing dance shows Nach Baliye on Star Plus has inspired a group of dancers to take the joy of dancing to the streets of London. We would like to take this opportunity...

The Killing was an American remake from AMC based on the nordic noir show popularised over here by showings on BBC 4. The Us version moved things to Seattle where it rained constantly and revolved around the murder of Rosie Larson. Unfairly compared to Twin Peaks when it debuted, it was nonetheless something of a hit on Channel 4 for at least two seasons. I lost track of it around the mid-point of season two, not because I didn’t like it, I enjoyed it lots despite its grimness but it became impossible to keep up with the weekly scheduled showings and 4Od was, and still is not very good. From what I hear season two wrapped up the murder of Larson and season three moved on to a new mystery which was just as gripping.

The British government is taking a different approach to piracy of the software and multimedia variety...

Dubbed the Voluntary Copyright Alert Programme, or Vcap for short, a new scheme hatched by the British government will do away with criminal charges for file-sharers and downloaders, including torrents. This includes movies, music and games, and it takes effect in 2015.
The scheme will replace any legal proceedings and pursuits of individuals, and will instead take a more awareness-generating direction. Those who download such content will be sent four cautionary letters that explain such actions are illegal. If users ignore these warnings, no further action is to be taken, not even the threat of disconnection from the Internet, as has been tried in the past.
Vcap is all about “persuading the persuadable, such as parents who do not know what is going on with their net connection,” said Geoff Taylor, the chief executive of the BPI.

History has shown us that not every musical hit is unique to the artist. Take Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You." When that catchy tune fell into the hands of the late Whitney Houston, the powerful ballad became an instant success, but many of the people caught humming the melody had no idea a blonde bombshell was the mastermind behind the hit.
Houston's rendition is just one a number of cover songs that eventually became more famous than the originals. We've compiled a list of some of these beloved gems below; let us know which ones surprised you in the comments.

The London Olympics opening ceremony highlight has edged out such contenders as Live Aid and, er, the Moon landing as TV's most defining event, according to a poll of the 10 moments that changed TV for ever
Every now and then, audiences will witness something so seismic that it changes the way we watch television. Think of Vietnam, the first time that technology allowed the horror of war to be beamed into homes. Or the slow-motion Oj Simpson car chase, which for hours gripped America and the world.
But not those. Because none of those events are apparently as iconic as, say, the Queen meeting James Bond. According to a new YouGov poll for Talk Talk promoting YouView, this is – and I'm quoting directly here – the top moment that changed TV forever. "What makes this television moment so iconic is the juxtaposition of the Queen and James Bond together," says Professor Jonathan Brignell.

The 31-year-old former Wag missed out at Louis Walsh's Judges' Houses in the 2011 series and she believes that it was partly down to eccentric acts such as Frankie Cocozza and Kitty Brucknell hogging the limelight. Speaking to X Factor sponsors Talk Talk, Poole said: "This year is different for me. I'm not standing in the background this year. No way, no way. "Last year I just stood back and let everyone else take centre stage with their flashing pants and tattooed (more)...

"Crash" writer/director Paul Haggis has revealed that his next project will be titled "Third Person" according to Vulture.
Gossip columns last week overheard that the project would revolve around a reporter on the social party circuit - a claim Haggis has denied. Instead, "It's about three story lines, three love stories, three relationships in three different cities that combine in a very odd way: New York, Paris, Rome" Haggis told the paper.
The New York scenes will have a party reporter character however, one who will be played by Olivia Wilde. Haggis also confirmed that Liam Neeson also stars in the film and his emotionally distraught author character has a relationship with Wilde.
Talk Talk adds that Jude Law has a role in the film.

Leo Records was founded in 1979 by Leo Feigin, a Russian who had emigrated to England. Early in its history, back before the glasnost era, it was most noted for releasing avant-garde Russian jazz at a time when government authorities discouraged the style. As Alexander Alexandrov of Moscow Composers Orchestra says, "What the authorities really hated was free jazz and improvised music – for the reason we loved it, because it was a powerful symbol of individual freedom." Although somehow the Ganelin Trio's first album came out on the official Soviet record label, Melodiya, it was the group's many albums on Leo that earned both the band and Leo world-wide reputations.
Eventually Leo expanded enough that it even had offshoots: Leo Lab for new artists, Golden Years of New Jazz for vintage material. Especially notable from the latter are four superb four-cd sets comprising a series entitled Golden Years of the Soviet...

Ofcom's study involved conducting interviews with 3,000 service users during September. The participants were asked if they had contacted their supplier within the past three months, and whether the outcome was satisfactory. No Doubt has not released an album since 2001's "Rock Steady" -- or a single since the cover of Talk Talk's "It's My Life" off of the 2003 greatest hits compilation. But the '90s super-group has been in the studio again, and we may soon reap the benefits.
EW has a new interview with the band, and in addition to confirming the previously assumed news the singer Gwen Stefani won't likely return to her solo career, the magazine teases that an announcement is on the horizon for the band.
June 10, in fact.
Promising "big news" when the full interview hits newsstands, it seems like new No Doubt material is imminent.
No Doubt had previously promised a new album in 2008, when they originally returned to the studio, but Stefani's pregnancy with second son Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale and an eventual tour sidelined any release.

Though he emerged from the ‘90s pop scene, singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik is now probably best known as a Broadway composer, whose rock score to “Spring Awakening” earned two Tony Awards in 2007. Since then he’s been juggling multiple theater projects, but recently carved out time to record an album. Set for release Tuesday, “Covers 80s” is a collection of hits and obscurities by acts such as New Order, Tears for Fears and the Thompson Twins, which Sheik presents in hushed acoustic arrangements.

‘X Factor’ contestant Cher Lloyd reportedly has a therapist on call 24 hours a day.
Insiders say that the 17-year-old singer – who was booed by the audience on Sunday night’s show when it was announced she had got through to the semi-finals – tearfully stormed out of a secret Talk Talk concert and now she is being given professional help as producers are worried about her state of mind.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Cher is struggling again. She keeps threatening to quit the show, saying if it wasn’t for her contract she would be out. The therapist has her own room in the house and is on call 24/7. It’s hoped that Cher can be calmed down in time for Saturday’s live show.
“She’s had a series of strops and rants and has been a bit of a nightmare. The patience of some staff has finally run out.

X Factor contestant Cher Lloyd reportedly threw yet another strop with backstage staff this week and refused to attend the London premiere of ‘Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyager of the Dawn Treader’ on Tuesday.
The 17 year old is said to be melting down and worrying about that fact that she may be eliminated from the ITV show this weekend and miss her chance of appearing on the final.
A source told The Mirror:
“Cher was all scheduled to go but threw a massive strop at the last minute. She’s paranoid she’s going home and her dream will be over.
“Everyone was set to go but she sat in her room in the dark crying her eyes out.”
Mary Byrne also missed the event due to a throat infection, while Matt Cardle and Zayn Malik both missed out on performing at a secret Talk Talk gig in London last night.

It's hard to remember it now, but there was a time when Donnie, Danny, Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, A.J., Brian, Nick and Howie ruled the world. In their prime (roughly 1984-2000), the members of the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block ruled the teen pop world. That explains why the news about their blockbuster joint tour has set hearts aflutter across the popscape. And though some of their vocals were rough trade at points during Sunday night's (November 21) American Music Awards TV debut, the energy, dance moves and magnetic pull of the respective bands' greatest hits were undeniable.
But that's not what excited me.

London -- After regulatory deliberations that have taken almost a year, he U.K. antitrust body the Office of Fair Trading has decided that the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5-backed Internet TV platform Project Canvas has no regulatory case to answer.
The Oft said Wednesday that after reviewing the case it had concluded that the partnership did not technically qualify as a merger, and so was "outside U.K. merger control jurisdiction."

After years away from the recording studio, No Doubt are back as promised. The foursome tweeted pictures of themselves as they recorded the first batch of new songs for their first studio album in nearly ten years.
"The 4 of us are 2gethr in Hllywd today- 2 start recording the first batch of new Nd songs," the band tweeted. The band has been filling fans in on progress, where they were experimenting with new synths and basslines at the beginning of the year.
