Marvel Television as we’ve known it the past decade will be no more. With its slate dwindling over the past year and its head Jeph Loeb set to depart, the television-focused division of Marvel Studios will be phased out.
The Marvel TV projects that are currently in production will continue but any further development is being scrapped. As a result, a significant portion of the unit’s staff are being laid off, sources said. The executives impacted are said to include Cort Lane, Marsha Griffin, Mark Ambrose, Tom Lieber and Aimee Carlson.
A handful of current Marvel TV executives, led by Karim Zreik, Svp Current Programming and Production, will join the Marvel Studios group to oversee the remaining Marvel TV shows already on the books and on the go.
That includes the announced four animated series and the live-action Helstrom for Hulu and last season of ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,...

Marvel’s television division is officially winding down.
Variety has learned that Marvel Television will no longer be developing any new series beyond the shows that are currently in production. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Marvel will eliminate a number of positions in the near future as a result of the cessation of development at the division. Karim Zreik, senior vice president of current programming and production and members of his team will now join the Marvel Studios group. Zreik will lead the current projects in production. Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb will remain with the division during the transition.
The move to close up shop on Marvel Television was not altogether unexpected, as Variety reported in September that there was a growing perception in the industry that Loeb’s division was on its way out given that Marvel movies boss Kevin Feige was set to...

Everything's coming up Milhouse Venom in the first teaser for Spider-Man: Maximum Venom! Both Cap and Iron Man will be experiencing some serious symbiote vibes when the third season of the animated Disney show lands next year.
"This is the most epic conflict in the history of Marvel Animation," said Cort Lane, senior vice president of Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment, when the season's theme was first announced. "We planted the seeds in two seasons of Marvel’s Spider-Man and three seasons of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but you don’t need to have watched them to be blown away by this all-out symbiote invasion. While a ton of guest heroes will be on hand, Peter Parker’s special link to Venom makes him the only hero who can tip the scales to save humanity.

Well, this is awkward timing.
During Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment’s panel at Disney’s D23 Expo on Friday evening, the company announced a new original preschool animated series for Disney Junior, Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends. Set to debut in 2021, it marks the first full-length Marvel series for Disney Junior.
The news comes at the end of a tumultuous week for the Spider-Man live-action movie franchise. As Deadline first reported, a standoff between Sony and Marvel/Disney has led to Marvel chief Kevin Feige exiting the Sony’s Spider-Man franchise and a looming exit of Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Preschool kids already love Spidey, so they’ll be delighted to have Peter Parker thwipping across their screens in this new series” Cort Lane, Svp, Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment, said in the announcement of the new series.

Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for their Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, its animated take on the Spidey franchise masterminded by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The table is being set for a December 14 theatrical release, with a New York Comic-Con appearance later this week in the offing.
After the success in June of the first trailer, which scored 44 million views in its first 24 hours, comes more of the storyline this time around. It centers on a new Spider-Man, Brooklyn teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), who discovers he is only the only Spidey in his, well, “soggy, weird, gross” French Fry universe, as portals open and many other versions come through. Arriving includes a past-his-prime Peter Parker (Jake Johnson) who acts as Miles’ mentor, Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), Penny Parker and her robot Spdr (voiced by Kimiko Glenn) and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney...

Over the weekend, during New York Comic Con, it was announced by Marvel's VP of Animation Cort Lane that Marvel Animation would be teaming up with the Lego Group to make an animated Black Panther Lego Movie. The movie will be called Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda.
There are no other details than that, but I seriously doubt it will be up to the level of what Warner Bros. is doing with their Lego movies. This will probably just end up being a silly direct-to-Blu-ray/digital release.
Marvel Animation really isn't doing anything impressive with their projects these days, which is why I'm not expecting much. But, it might be something that will be fun for the kids to watch and it will certainly help them learn more about the character and who he is.

Fittingly enough, Ant-Man is going to flit between the big and small screens. Scott Lang is shrinking to telly size for Disney Xd, to appear in a series of shorts entitled Marvel's Ant-Man.

Josh Keaton (heard recently in Ben-10 and Voltron: Legendary Defender) will step into Paul Rudd's shoes to voice crook-turned-hero Scott.
The shorts will follow on from the events of Peyton Reed's 2015 Ant-Man movie, but, as with the Guardians Of The Galaxy animated series, we wouldn't expect them to be officially canonical with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The cinematic sequel Ant-Man And The Wasp, we expect, won't need to shape its script to account for these events.

Marvel and Funko have collaborated to create the first-ever Funko animated shorts. Three shorts in total and each one is ninety seconds in length and feature some of Marvel’s most popular Super Heroes and Villains, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Loki, Rocket, Groot, the Collector, Deadpool, and Venom.
We’ve already had the first short: Spellbound, which saw Spider-Man and Iron Man face off against Loki and his mind-controlling scepter; and the follow-up Bait N Switch, featuring Rocket breaking into the Collector’s museum to set his buddy Groot free. Marvel are starting to get a tiny bit silly now. Besides getting people all hot and bothered with teasers for teaser trailers for actual trailers, they’re now doing pre-announcements. This week Marvel’s VP Of Animation Development And Production, Cort Lane, mentioned at the Marvel Animation panel at WonderCon that the studio had a new animated project in the works. That’s all. Nothing special – they currently have Ultimate Spider-Man, Hulk: Agents Of Smash and Avengers Assemble.
Those three form a sort-of shared animated universe, much like Marvel’s nineties cartoons, but oh yeah – what makes this new project different is that it’s gonna be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So it’ll be sharing the same fictional space as the Avengers movies, Guardians Of The Galaxy, and that thing about the Incredible Shrinking Paul Rudd. Now that’s pretty exciting, whatever it is.

Marvel has already taken its ambitious shared-universe model and expanded it from film to television (and entered the realm of streaming with Daredevil‘s Netflix debut this weekend). Now, however, they may begin experimenting with a new medium altogether: animation. According to Marvel’s Vice President of Animation Development and Production, Cort Lane, animated tie-ins to the larger McU may be on the horizon.
During Emerald City Comic-Con last weekend, Lane was asked by a fan about the possibility of seeing animated projects set in the McU. Lane’s response was a non-committal but promising statement saying that while he couldn’t announce anything, “things are in the works.”
What “things” Lane is alluding to are a complete mystery, but he did point toward Daredevil as a “proof-of-concept” for projects that tie into the larger world that Marvel has created. On one hand, it makes complete sense that the studio...

P { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }A:link { } There's no arguing Marvel's dominance when it comes to big screen live action feature films. The same, however, cannot necessarily be said when it comes to the animation side of things, but that may soon change as we recently learned there's some Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover potential in the works. Per Newsarama, on the final day of this year's Emerald City Comic Con, the discussion of Marvel cartoon work was opened up at the "Marvel Animation Presents" panel and the company's Animation Development and Production VP Cort Lane answered a number of questions during the Q&A. When asked about whether the animation team might produce content within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he had this to say: I can't announce anything, but things are in the works. What "things" could he be referring to? That's the million dollar question. Most likely we're looking at more ...

Last weekend at Emerald City Comic-Con during the Marvel Animation panel, Marvel VP of Animation Cort Lane reportedly told fans in attendance that the House of Ideas is exploring animated tie-ins that connect to the McU. "I can't announce anything, but things are in the works," was Lane's reply to a fan question. Exactly what these "things" are is anyone's guess. Could the McU be looking to launch an animated series on Disney Xd that ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Currently, Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man air on the cable network but neither of the shows have the same buzz among fans that Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes commanded. Ultimate Spider-Man is currently in its third season while Avenges Assemble is currently in the middle of its second season run. Neither show has been renewed yet. When talking to Newarama about the second Season of Ultimate Spider-man, series producer, Cort Lane, revealed that the upcoming Hulk and The agents of Smash and Avengers Assemble are only few months away. Nrama: Since you mentioned them a little earlier — are there any updates on when Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. or Avengers Assemble might debut on air? Lane: They're only months away. I'm really thrilled. I'm a lifelong Avengers fan, so getting to work on an Avengers series is a dream job for me. At the same time, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. has really surpassed my expectations of what a series like that could be. It's a great story about a great group of characters who have a really interesting family-style dynamic.

We've been hearing rumors for awhile that Marvel would be cancelling their awesome animated series Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Today that rumor has been confirmed; the series is gone. It's a shame that this only got two seasons, as it was one of the best animated series on TV. The news was confirmed in a press release by Marvel that also revealed the show would be replaced by another Avengers series called Marvel's Avengers Assemble.
The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be renewed for the 3rd Season. Marvel Animation will present their newly developed series Marvel’s Avengers Assemble in 2013.
The image above was released to promote the new series, which looks like it's going to fall more in line with Joss Whedon's Avengers film. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more Marvel characters introduced in the series though. We should get some more details at this year's Comic-Con.

Marvel animation has never been a high point of their multimedia outreach but last year G4 aired four Marvel Anime series (X-Men, Iron Man, Blade and Wolverine), taking the beauty of the animation from Japan and the lively characters of Marvel’s mutant superteam, the X-Men. Unfortunately G4 doesn’t have the biggest coverage so this now it’s been collected Marvel Anime: X-Men The Complete Series on DVD. The X-Men Anime team is largely the one used in Astonishing X-Men, and since Warren Ellis wrote both this series and part of that comic series it makes sense that he would use that roster.
There are twelve episodes but the story is split into two halves. The first is seeing the X-Men team of Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Beast and Professor X trying to locate a young mutant in Japan. They are still in the wake of losing Jean Grey (especially...

Can’t get enough of The Avengers hype? Do you love Jon Favreau’s adaptation of Tony Stark/Iron Man? Do you want more Iron Man and less S.H.I.E.L.D.? Does your fandom spill into the realm of animation too?
If you answered yes to any or all of the above, then you need to check out the Marvel Anime: Iron Man The Complete Series on DVD. Using the first Iron Man film as the only required back-story, Sony and Madhouse Animation brought everything that’s great about Japanimation to Iron Man–the mecha look, the fast action, and a slightly edgier approach than what’s typically passed for as cartoons in the states.
The story is set up nicely to bring Tony Stark to Japan because he wants to bring free energy to Japan, applying his life-saving Arc technology to create a large reactor to feed the country.

Per Marvel.com: “We were inspired by things that fans had done on the internet with our old footage, and so we thought, ‘Well, what if we did some of that ourselves, but with a distinctive Marvel sense of humor,’” explains Vice President, Animation Development & Production Cort Lane of the series’ origins. “We started on a pilot,” recounts Lane. “We decided ‘Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends’ is such an iconic, classic cartoon that that’s the first one we’re using. We will also be using the ‘Incredible Hulk’ series from 1982, and later on we’ll be using the ‘Fantastic Four’ series from 1978.” “We just went at it, taking sections, re-editing them, trying to do dialogue with them, and we got in the booth with some amazing voice actors such as Tom Kenney, the voice of SpongeBob Squarepants and Doctor Octopus on ‘Ultimate Spider-Man.’ We even encouraged the voice talent...
