Man walks into a bar… It’s the stuff dreams are made of. An unknown musician was plucked from obscurity Friday night to perform in front of a huge crowd and ended up stealing the show.
At pop band Take That’s gig in Glasgow, Scotland on Friday night, their scheduled warm-up act was established chart-topper Olly Murs, but he got stuck in London after his flight was cancelled.
Meanwhile in Glasgow, singer and guitarist Daniel Rooney was performing in the bar of the hotel across the road fron the venue, where he was spotted by entertainment journalist Ross King. The Daily Mail reports that, when King heard of Murs’s absence, he was quick to recommend Rooney be enlisted as his replacement – with just 30 minutes’ notice.
@TheRossKing epic!!! Well done you and Daniel Rooney for stepping in. Certainly didn’t expect to see you singing to a @takethat crowd...

When I heard that there was going to be a Coronation Concert at Windsor Palace to celebrate the crowning of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, my first thought was: “Wow, who would voluntarily perform at that?” Some international viewers might have expected the biggest stars the U.K. has to offer, like Adele or maybe even Elton John, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa or Ed Sheeran. But no, instead the baton seemed to fall primarily to people whose management didn’t get the memo that this was the most uncool gig ever: Americans!

The coronation of King Charles III on Saturday had all manner of bizarre rituals and moments, but perhaps one of the weirdest was revealed on Sunday night when the newly minted British monarch and his wife Queen Camilla made an appearance on American Idol.
In a pre-taped segment, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry had called into the latest episode of Idol to explain their absence as they were in London performing at Sunday’s The Coronation Concert in celebration of Charles acceding to the throne. Speaking to Idol host Ryan Seacrest, Richie and Perry appeared to be in a grand room inside Windsor Castle, where the concert took place.
Charles and Camilla then wander into the shot and rather awkwardly ask when Richie and Perry would be finished using the room they were filming the segment.

It was the U.K.’s first coronation in 70 years — a cause even Hugh Jackman, Tom Cruise and Pierce Brosnan had to celebrate.
A star-studded lineup for King Charles III’s Coronation Concert took to an enormous stage on Windsor Castle grounds, the historic building a shimmering backdrop for a crowd of 20,000 on Sunday night.
The polished gardens — tidy from the monarch’s “7 a.m. weeding,” joked Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, who served as host for the event — were a sea of red, white and royal blue as fans across the country gathered to toast to the king and queen.
In and among performances from Katy Perry, Nicole Scherzinger and Lionel Richie (the latter managing to tempt the king out of his seat for some bobbing to All Night Long) were video messages of congratulations and “Did you know?” facts about Charles from Hollywood royalty.

More star power is being added to the upcoming concert following the coronation of King Charles III.
Previous reports indicated that a bevy of big-name British musical acts — including Adele, Harry Styles, Sir Elton John, the Spice Girls and Ed Sheeran — turned down the opportunity to perform at the Coronation Concert. As a result, the show will feature a roster of decidedly non-British acts, including Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Andrea Bocelli.
Now, more information is emerging about the concert, with Variety reporting that Tom Cruise, Winnie the Pooh, Nicole Scherzinger and others will also be part of the festivities.

Olly Murs has responded to criticism of the “cruel” lyrics to his new song “I Hate You When You’re Drunk”.
Last month, the singer released his new single from his album Marry Me.
However, the lyrics were quickly dissected online, with critics suggesting that the song showed Murs attempting to humiliate a loved one for getting drunk and that the words were “misogynistic”.
While Murs’s fiancée Amelia Tank defended the former X Factor finalist, he has now responded to his critics while appearing on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday (6 December).
“I mean, it’s obviously upsetting to think that people took it that way because it was not that intention,” Murs told hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent. “It was a song that I really related to in the studio when it was a song that was [written] eight years ago.”

Shania Twain has given her hit song “That Don’t Impress Me Much” a 2022 update.
In the 1997 track, which featured on the smash hit album Come On Over, Twain sings about how she won’t be impressed by a man who’s “got a car”, is a “rocket scientist”, or is Brad Pitt.
However, while performing a medley of her songs at the People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday (6 December), the 57-year-old switched out the Fight Club star’s name for that of another actor.
Wearing a rhinestoned pink jumpsuit with chaps and a pink wig, Twain instead sang: “So, you’re Ryan Reynolds?” during her rendition of “That Don’t Impress Me Much”.
The camera then cut to an incredulous looking Reynolds as the Deadpool star mouthed the words: “Oh my god, me?”
Twain was honoured at the PCAs with the Music Icon Award, which was given to her by Billy Porter.

The Marvel director and British singer have been in a relationship since 2021 and are reported to have married this summer.

The couple were then interviewed by Theroux together, during which they both referred to the other as their “best friend”.
“Taika, were you conscious of being pulled more into the spotlight?” Theroux asked, with Waititi quipping back: “I don’t know about that, Louis. I think it was probably the other way around. Don’t you think, darling?”
Turning serious, Waititi then responded: “Erm, yeah. I...

Olly Murs’ fiancée Amelia Tank has hit out at criticism of the pop star’s new single.
Following its release on Friday (25 November), the lyrics of “I Hate You When You’re Drunk” were branded “cruel”, “disgusting” and “misogynistic” by some listeners.
The upbeat pop track, which was co-written by Murs, sees the singer lambast a loved one for getting drunk on a night out. Murs himself has said the song’s words can apply to a family, friend or romantic love interest.
One criticism came from DJ Shaun Keaveny, who wrote on Twitter: “Olly Murs is quite the sad, controlling boyfriend according to the lyrics of his new song, ‘I Hate You When You’re Drunk’.
“I look forward to her reply song ‘I Hate You When You Sing’.”
Tank, who has been in a relationship with Murs since 2019, responded to Keaveny on Instagram.

Dominic West has explained how he came to recreate King Charles’s “bizarre” breakdancing moment for The Crown.
The British actor plays the monarch, then Prince Charles, in the fifth season of Netflix’s historical drama.
Episode five of the series centres around the work of his charity The Prince’s Trust and ends with a surprise credits sequence in which Charles awkwardly breakdances at an event.

The Wire star said that he was later showed the footage by his co-star Olivia Williams, who plays Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Judi Dench has reflected on some of her naughtiest moments – including the time she accidentally yelled “w***er” at a stranger.
The actor, while in conversation with broadcaster Gyles Brandreth at London’s Gielgud Theatre on Sunday night (27 November), said she thought it would be funny to shout at someone she had mistakenly identified as her friend, the impressionist Alistair McGowan, only to realise afterwards that it wasn’t him.
“I was driving along and saw who I thought was Alistair McGowan and I shouted ‘w***er’… and it was a total stranger,” she said.
The 87-year-old star added that the sight condition she suffers from – macular degeneration – has got her into trouble numerous times over the years.
In another awkward mishap, Dench said she was once on stage and thought she saw theatre director Howard Davies in the audience.

Francesca Scorsese was cut from Luca Guadagnino’s film Bones and All, the director has revealed.
The recently released horror-romance stars Timothee Chalamet and Taylor Russell in a film adaptation of Camille De Angelis’s 2015 novel.
Bones and All was also supposed to feature Francesca Scorsese, daughter of Martin Scorsese, before her role as Harmony was cut.
Scorsese, 23, addressed her absence from the film, sharing a post on her Instagram story: “Rip Harmony lol.”
It appears there are no hard feelings, however, with Scorsese writing: “For those asking, Harmony is no longer in the film, she had fun though!!”
The actor accompanied her post with what appears to be stills from her deleted scenes, in which she is seen in character in a car with Russell and Chalamet.
Scorsese previously worked with Guadagnino on the 2020 HBO series We Are Who We Are.

The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Liverpool.
The winner was selected from a shortlist of seven U.K. cities. The news comes after months of uncertainty over where the contest would be held.

Liverpool’s win was announced on BBC’s “The One Show” on Friday evening (Oct. 7). The exact dates of the contest have not yet been revealed although it is always held in May.
It is likely the event will be hosted in the city’s biggest arena, the M&s Bank Arena, which has a capacity of 11,000. Currently there are two acts scheduled to perform there in May: Olly Murs on May 6 and violinist Andre Rieu on May 12.
Because the contest usually takes over an arena for two weeks in order for preparations followed by qualifying heats to take place, the contest may take place later in May.

Pop star Olly Murs has given up alcohol over the last 12 months, saying it can make him go “a bit mad”.
The ‘Heart Skips a Beat’ hitmaker, who shot to fame on ‘The X Factor’ in 2009, shared: “I’ve not been drinking for a year. I’ve done 365 days. Just a personal thing, I like little victories.”
Murs conceded that over-indulging on alcohol “can lead to bad s*** happening”, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
He told MailOnline: “I’m not someone who has ever struggled with drink – it was just something I felt like I wanted to for for a year and challenge myself. I just think sometimes drinking can lead to bad s*** happening.”
Despite this, Murs would’ve loved to have had a drink when he got engaged to girlfriend Amelia Tank earlier this year.
Asked if he missed anything about drinking, Olly replied: “I don’t miss it at all.

When I think of the soundtrack to my year so far, I imagine Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lizzo. I consider myself to have a finger on the pulse with new music and have danced in my kitchen to the sounds of "As It Was" more times than I care to count. But the new Spotify Pie Chart has served me a big slice of, well, humble pie. My musical taste is, in fact, embarrassing.
Every December, Spotify's end-of-year Wrapped feature details the music each user listened to on the app the most in the year, and I always suspected mine was skewed thanks to the cheesefest I turn to the second the festive season arrives. But thanks to a new tool, the Spotify Pie Chart, created by UCLA student Darren Huang, I can see in black and white that I am...

Soccer Aid for Unicef 2021, broadcast live and exclusively on ITV, Stv and the ITV hub this evening from the Etihad Stadium, has raised a record-breaking £13,014,769 so far for Unicef’s vital work keeping children around the world, happy, healthy and able to play.
Robbie Williams, Usain Bolt, David Beckham
This record-breaking amount was raised thanks to the generous support of the UK public, ITV and Stv viewers, and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (Ciff) who matched all public donations up to £6.3 million, meaning double the difference for children. This figure has smashed all previous records for money raised on the night.
The eagerly anticipated match took place once again in Manchester, and this time players took centre stage at the sold out Etihad Stadium with 51,674 fans in attendance, in line with current Covid safety regulations, following last year’s match behind closed doors. The match ended 3-0 to Soccer...
