In April, the Sundance Institute announced its intentions to consider alternative locations for its film festival outside of Park City, Utah starting the year 2027 and beyond. Since then, multiple bids have been entered by cities hoping to take over hosting duties including huge metropolises like Atlanta, San Francisco, and Chicago, and even smaller cities like Buffalo and Santa Fe. However, Utah isn’t going down without a fight. This week it was reiterated that the Sundance Institute is allowing the state of Utah to go forward as a viable option for the festival, though a specific city has not been selected yet.
Plans to keep the festival in Utah were spearheaded by state leaders Gov. Spencer Cox, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, Park City Mayor Nann Worel, Utah Film Commission Director Virginia Pearce and Park City Chamber of Commerce CEO Jennifer Wesselhoff, all operating under the banner of the...

Elizabeth confronts an unwelcome figure from her past in the May 12 episode of When Calls the Heart. But who is Thomas Higgins, and why does his arrival in Hope Valley unsettle the schoolteacher so much?
Elizabeth confronts Thomas Higgins in ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 11
In When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 6, Elizabeth crosses paths with a man who will be familiar to long-time viewers of the show.
Last week, Elizabeth learned that a plan to merge Hope Valley with the neighboring town of Benson Hills meant that her school would come under the jurisdiction of the larger school district. She’s fought to maintain her independence in the past but now says she’s willing to give up that freedom for the good of the town. (The merger would allow a plan to build a larger resort that would bring jobs and new residents to the town to move forward.

General Hospital spoilers claim Avery Corinthos (Grace Scarola) has been delighted to live under one roof with both her mother and father.
Seeing Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Ava Jerome (Maura West) get along so swimmingly has helped the three of them blend their way into being a family — something they’ve never really experienced with each other before.
Sonny has welcomed Ava with open arms, and she’s taken advantage of that situation by trying to push Nina Reeves Corinthos (Cynthia Watros) completely out of the picture and inserting herself in her place.
But Ava may be blind to the real concerns everyone else has about how things turn out when Sonny isn’t properly medicated — a truth Ava stumbled upon but hasn’t shared. So when he starts behaving rather recklessly and his actions put their daughter in danger, will Ava stand by him, or protect her daughter...

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) said the city’s corrections officials “will be ready” to hold former President Donald Trump at the notorious Rikers Island prison, known as one of the worst in the United States, should the judge in his hush-money case send him there.
“Our amazing [Department of Corrections Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie], she is prepared for whatever comes on Rikers Island,” Adams said when asked about Trump’s possible incarceration. “I’m pretty sure she would be prepared to manage and deal with the situation.”
“As you see with Harvey Weinstein, we have to adjust,” Adams said, in reference to the Hollywood mogul who was held for medical treatment at Bellevue Hospital.
Adams acknowledged that while dealing with hypothetical situations is not ideal, the city’s law enforcement entities must be prepared for any possibility. Trump currently faces trial in Manhattan on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to alleged hush money...

Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has lost his daily radio talk show after being suspended by the broadcaster over policy violations.
The suspension came after Giuliani received repeated warnings to not offer unsubstantiated views about the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election. Giuliani is one of several figures who painted the outcome of the election as fraudulent, and has been criminally charged in two states for allegedly helping then-incumbent Donald Trump overturn certain election results. Trump lost the election to then-Senator Joe Biden.
Giuliani’s show was one of several hosted by right-of-center personalities as part of a strategy to develop Wabc Radio into a conservative powerhouse under the guidance of the station’s current owner, Red Apple Media founder John Catsimatidis.
But Wabc is not an outlet where anything goes, Catsimatidis said...

Avengers Star Jeremy Renner ‘Actually Died’ After Fatal Snowplough Accident, Reveals Co-Star - Main Image
Jeremy Renner proved he’s a real-life hero after saving his nephew from being hit by his snow-removal tractor, leaving him suffering a fatal snowplough accident on New Year’s Day in 2023. But though everyone knows that he has successfully survived after fighting for his life, his Mayor of Kingstown co-star Michael Beach revealed the Avengers star “actually died.”
Renner was trying to stop his snowcat from sliding and hitting his nephew when he ended up being pulled under the vehicle and crushed.
After being rushed to the hospital, the actor who plays Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) underwent multiple surgeries after breaking 30 bones in the incident.
He also reportedly suffered “blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries.” But due to the severity of what happened, not everyone knows that his heart stopped beating.

Former Georgia Republican Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan said he would vote for President Joe Biden instead of former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
Duncan explained his decision in an op-ed he wrote for The Atlanta-Journal Constitution titled, “Geoff Duncan: Why I’m voting for Biden and other Republicans should, too.”
In his op-ed, he stated how it was “disappointing to watch an increasing number of Republicans fall in line behind former president Donald Trump,” including “some of his fiercest detractors.”
He mentioned detractors such as “U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu and former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr, who raised eyebrows during a recent interview by vowing to support the Republican ticket.”
“Yes, elections are a binary choice,” Duncan admitted. “Yes, serious questions linger about President Biden’s ability to serve until the age of 86. His progressive policies aren’t to conservatives’ liking.

Exclusive: Peter Morgan’s next project for Netflix is likely to be a film adaptation of his stage play Patriots rather than more of The Crown, according to sources close to the writer.
There has been a flurry of reports in the UK this week about The Crown returning following the success of Scoop, but Deadline understands that Morgan is planning to take a break from the royals.
One project Morgan is prioritizing is a screen version of Patriots, which chronicles the rise of billionaire Boris Berezovsky and the deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin.
The play recouped during its 12-week run at the Noel Coward Theatre in London’s West End, helping it transfer to Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
Netflix backed the Broadway show, marking its Broadway producing debut. A source said the deal also included a commitment to develop a Patriots film. The project is yet to be fully greenlit.

Jeremy Renner is the strongest real-life Avenger and there’s no denying it after his recovery from last year’s accident. The Hawkeye star was run over by his heavy snowcat when attempting to stop it from running over his nephew. While fans read about his broken ribs, legs, and other numerous injuries, one recent revelation from his Mayor of Kingstown co-star not only paints a picture of the horrible nature of the accident but also of the resilient Renner.
Jeremy Renner will return in the third season of Mayor of Kingstown
Michael Beach revealed that Renner clinically died when he was first admitted to the hospital right after the accident. The Dahmer actor has been consistently posting about his recovery process to his Instagram. He recently appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for Silk Protein Almondmilk.

In a surprising moment during a regularly scheduled press briefing about public safety statistics, the Columbia University protests, migrant centers, the proliferation of illegal weed shops and Mayor Eric Adams’ upcoming trip to meet the Pope in Rome, a curveball question pressed Adams on the possible, if unlikely, jailing of former President Donald Trump.
Asked whether New York City’s Rikers Island complex would be prepared to handle the jailing of Trump, or if the city had any plans in place for such a situation, Adams said the city’s corrections officials “will be ready.”
“Our amazing [Department of Corrections Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie], she is prepared for whatever comes on Rikers Island,” Adams told reporters. “I’m pretty sure she would be prepared to manage and deal with the situation.

Ahead of the movie's world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, the first trailer for Francis Ford Coppola's sci-fi passion project, Megalopolis, has been released online.
Really more of a scene preview than a proper teaser, the footage sees Adam Driver's character, Caesar, step out on to the ledge of a building and walk precariously towards the edge. Caesar then begins to topple forward, but before he falls, he yells "time stop," and freezes in place. After a few moments, he snaps his fingers and the world around him returns to normal.
Coppola shared the clip on Instagram, with a sad addendum.
"Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th. But sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf."

A committee of bankruptcy creditors found out that Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani spent nearly $120,000 in January after he agreed to abide by a $43,000 budget.
On December 21, 2023, Giuliani declared bankruptcy six days after a jury in Washington, D.C., ordered him to pay $148 million to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the two Georgia election workers whom he falsely accused of stealing the 2020 presidential election from his client Donald Trump.
Judge Beryl A. Howell said she was concerned that Giuliani would try to conceal his assets.
The budget Giuliani promised to adhere to was drawn from funds from Social Security and retirement accounts.
His committee of bankruptcy creditors told a bankruptcy judge, who controls his spending that they will not let the former New York City mayor drive his creditors “off a cliff.”
“Unfortunately, the committee is not surprised by the Debtor’s failure to file complete and accurate financial disclosures,” they stated in a court filing.

Adam Driver is on the edge in the first official teaser for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis.”
“Megalopolis,” which will premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, has been a project years in the making for the director, who first began work on the screenplay in the 1980s. The legendary filmmaker behind “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now” has invested $120 million of his own money into the film.
When asked by GQ about the potential repercussions of self-funding such a massive endeavor, the director responded, “I couldn’t care less about the financial impact whatsoever. It means nothing to me.”
“Megalopolis” sports an all-star cast, with Driver leading the pack alongside Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman.

Adam Driver is an architect who can control time in the first-look clip for Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming, self-funded film, Megalopolis.
In the more-than-two-minute video, Driver’s Cesar Catilina makes his way onto the edge of a skyscraper, seemingly considering jumping. As he’s about to fully step off the building, he shouts “Time stop” and the cars below him pause at his command, and he leans back onto stable footing.
The film, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17, is a Roman Epic set in an imagined Modern America, according to its description.
“The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests and partisan warfare,” the logline reads. “Torn between...

Francis Ford Coppola's "Megalopolis" has been in the works for decades, and at last, the first clip from the film has been released ahead of its Cannes Film Festival premiere later this month. It's just two minutes long, but the film finally feels real, not like a vanished dream.
We at /Film named "Megalopolis" one of our most anticipated movies of 2024, and it should be one of yours too. It's the "Godfather" director's first film since 2011's "Twixt," and it was self-financed (meaning creative freedom for Coppola). It also boasts an incredible ensemble, led by Adam Driver and Giancarlo Esposito.
In "Megalopolis," a city is destroyed in a natural disaster. Idealistic urban planner Cesar (Driver) and Mayor Frank Cicero (Esposito) clash on their visions to rebuild the city, with Cicero's daughter Julia (Nathalie Emmanuel) coming between them. The first look at the film suggests it may be even...

A clip for one of the most anticipated films of Cannes has been unveiled this morning by writer/director Francis Ford Coppola. Opening with that famous American Zoetrope logo from the 1970s, the clip begins with Adam Driver’s character exiting a window at the top floor of a skyscraper and slowly inching towards the building’s sloped edge. As he bends to look down at the street below, then lifts a leg to step off, he loses his balance and yells, “Time stop!” The world freezes and Driver’s character is able to lean back and regain his footing before snapping time back into action. If one looks deep enough, a metaphor can be found for Coppola’s entire cinematic career within this simple two minute scene.
The film’s official description reads: “Megalopolis” is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change,...

I’ve predicted Megalopolis, anticipated as it is, will have a clear dividing point: the cultural commentariat hoping to see “another film by the director of The Godfather” and those who appreciate “something that looks and sounds like a Star Wars prequel.” I am very firmly in the latter, was duly excited by the first image, and can only be pleased with the time-stopping debut teaser, arriving today via Le Pacte.
It comes with a sad addenedum. Coppola, sharing the teaser on Instagram, noted:
Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th. But sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.

After Hunter Biden’s attorneys threatened to sue Fox News for defamation, the network removed the six-part miniseries, The Trial of Hunter Biden.
Hunter’s attorneys threatened to sue Fox News for violating “revenge” laws and publishing since-debunked bribery accusations as part of a scheme to portray him inaccurately.
The letter, which President Joe Biden’s son’s counsel delivered to Fox News attorneys last week, includes a request for the network to “preserve all documents potentially relevant to the allegations in this letter” – a common precursor to litigation.
“We anticipate that litigation against Fox … is imminent,” the letter read.
Hunter’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, has represented well-known people like Michael Jackson, Chris Brown and Winona Ryder.
Geragos demanded Fox News issue numerous retractions and corrections for reporting on Hunter’s overseas business schemes.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “With So Little to Be Sure Of,” the sixth episode of the final season of ABC’s “Station 19.”
Boris Kodjoe is ready to start his next chapter. Since wrapping production last month on the final season of ABC’s venerable firefighter drama “Station 19,” the 51-year-old actor — who rose to fame in the early aughts in the Showtime drama “Soul Food” — has set his sights on broadening his horizons.
Chief among them is working more behind the camera. After directing his wife (and former “Soul Food” costar) Nicole Ari Parker in the Lifetime movie “Safe Room,” Kodjoe expressed an interest in helming an episode of “Station 19,” and his wish was granted midway through the show’s final 10-episode run. It was the ideal training ground for Kodjoe, whose exacting nature earned him a special nickname on set.

Exclusive: Like an applause filled debut at Park City’s Eccles Theatre, the Sundance Film Festival’s potential move in 2027 to a new location is attracting a lot of big bidders, as well as a significant swing from the hometown crowd.
San Francisco, Minneapolis, Santa Fe, and Atlanta, the home of Hollywood South, are among the jurisdictions that have notified Sff organizers they are raising their paddles for a chance to have the festival based in their town. Chicago has also allegedly made a move to bring Sundance to the already film festival rich Windy City, I hear. A couple of locations in Upstate New York as well as Savannah, Ga are in play too.
Last year, with Santa Fe champing at the bit, Deadline exclusively reported that Sundance was considering a move as its current over a decade old contract with Park City winds down. Bursting with infrastructure, production,...

On Tuesday night, Columbia University president Nemat Shafik called upon the Strategic Response Group of the New York Police Department (NYPD) to clear protesters who had occupied a campus building.
The action followed New York Mayor Eric Adams‘ assertion that the protests had been “co-opted” and his warning to Columbia students to leave “before the situation escalates.” Subsequently, over 100 police officers swept the campus and arrested nonviolent student protesters for the second time in as many weeks.
The officers forcibly dragged students from Hamilton Hall, the briefly occupied building and witnesses said that the officers entered the premises with drawn guns and deployed tear gas in the raid, which resulted in at least one student’s loss of consciousness. Shafik has also requested that the NYPD maintain a presence on campus until at least May 17, two days after this year’s commencement ceremony.
