A lot has been said about Sydney Sweeney in recent years. The actor skyrocketed to fame after delivering strong performances in Euphoria and The White Lotus. But many people have expressed concern with the way Sweeney’s character, Cassie Howard, has been portrayed in Euphoria. They have noted that the actor has had far more nude scenes and sex scenes than many of her castmates. But Sweeney has been candid about the fact that she feels safe filming intimate scenes on Euphoria’s set. Unfortunately, the same thing can’t be said for other projects she’s worked on.

Sydney Sweeney has spoken out a lot about sex scenes and the double standard of nudity in Hollywood. The actor has shared that men are often praised for choosing to do roles that require them to be nude, while women are put down for the same choice. However, Sweeney has shared that she plans to continue to do roles that require nudity and sex scenes as long as they are true to her character and serve the project’s overarching narrative. The Washington native also hopes to change the conversation about intimate scenes and make sure actors feel safe and comfortable while performing them.

Photo: 'Nocturne'/Amazon Studios “When you go see that concert, the big solo, the concerto, that’s not just music you’re watching. It’s sacrifice.” This is the thesis of Zu Quirke’s horror suspense film Nocturne, focused on Juliet Lowe’s unexpected and rapid rise to success within her competitive, musically elite boarding school. The pursuit of perfection is no stranger in the world of filmmaking, seeing the success of gritty film buff favorites like Black Swan or Whiplash, but Nocturne is a polished surface meant to reflect your deepest desires. The film begins with a note of sympathy as you are introduced to the Lowe twins, Vivian and Juliet, Juliet a mere shadow of her sister’s renowned talent that seems to eclipse the sisters’ life. They both attend Lindberg Academy with a focus on classical piano playing and this shadow becomes a hole for...

Faustabout: Quirke Dances with the Devil in Moody, Familiar Debut
Satan might be one of the most prolific talent scouts in this realm or any other, at least if we’re counting the number of Faustian tinged films about artists and other creatives selling their souls to get ahead in their chosen profession. Musically inclined young women seem to be especially prone to such psychological pratfalls in this sort of subgenre and director Zu Quirke lands squarely in this school with her debut Nocturne.
Effective as a moody psychological character study but perilously derivative in its supernatural reaches, much depends on the entrancing lead performance form Sydney Sweeney as the less-talented twin reared by a family and fostered by a school community to be a polished failure.…...

Arriving on Amazon Prime Video today is Nocturne, which is one of the first four films of the Welcome to the Blumhouse collection. Written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Zu Quirke, Nocturne follows twin sisters Juliet (Sydney Sweeney) and Vivian (Madison Iseman), who both attend a music school and dream of making it big as classically trained pianists. But when Juliet struggles to break out as an artist like her sister has, she makes a bargain that will forever change her life, and comes with a hefty price tag attached.
Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Quirke about Nocturne, and she discussed how the project ending up at Blumhouse was something of a surprise for her, and the inspiration behind the story. Quirke also chatted about her experiences collaborating with both Iseman and Sweeney as well as how she approached the music in Nocturne.

The deadly perils of music academies are a somewhat recurring horror-movie trope.

In Nocturne, first-time writer-director Zu Quirke adds a few of her own twists to the evil music school genre, including a bitter sibling rivalry and a mysterious book of sheet music that may have been written by Satan himself. Yet it’s not quite enough ...

The first four in a total of eight films will have dual premieres on Amazon Prime Video across two weeks, starting on October 6, with Black Box and Evil Eye, followed by The Lie and Nocturne on October 13.
