Not many would have expected to witness so many Spider-‘Men’ in action before Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hit the theatres. Into the Spider-Verse might have given fans a sneak peek into the ‘Spider-Verse’. But it was the sequel that really zoomed into the possibility of exploring the story of so many versions of Spider-Man.
But when you have so many characters, there are a few who make the cut even though they shouldn’t have. And Across the Spider-Verse had one such character as well; it was the antagonist himself.

Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is a box office behemoth, making $380 million in the U.S. and $690 million worldwide. What does composer Daniel Pemberton think about those huge numbers for the sequel? “It’s always really nice when a movie actually super connects with people,” he tells us. “I don’t think I’ve ever done any movie that’s connected as intensely as ‘Spider Verse.’ It is nice when [box office] does correlate to great work, and I’m really proud of what all of us did on this film.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Pemberton talks openly about the “collaborative process” between himself and the three directors, Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, plus editor Michael Andrews and writer/producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. He says, “I think one of the things that really works is we’re all throwing ideas backwards and forwards with each other being like,...

Heavy spoilers for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" to follow.
"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was a miracle of filmmaking, a movie that shouldn't work -- it has too many characters, drastically different visual styles throughout, and a story that is simultaneously too kid-friendly for adults yet too adult for the demographic normally associated with American animation. Yet not only did work, but the film became a smash hit (joining our list of the best movies of all time). More importantly, it proved that animated movies could look like stylized concept art and still find an audience, a big one at that. Since then, we've seen many other movies experiment with their own unique visual styles and with stories that are bolder and more mature than, say, "Minions" or "The Boss Baby."

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai
I have never seen the Gremlins movie, but I know that gremlins smell bad and want to eat us. Just watching five minutes of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, I think it is already a really good TV show.
The show is 25 percent happy, 25 percent sad, 25 percent funny, and 25 percent disgusting. The disgusting parts are when fingers come off. It’s about a kid, Sam (Izaac Wang), who says, “I have no faith in myself. I can’t do it.” He has to hide this gremlin named Gizmo, who is so cute, and return it to its home. He finds this girl, Elle (Gabrielle Nevaeh Green), and they go on a big adventure to find its home. He’s kind of like a goody-two-shoes and the...

Sixteen years after Sam Raimi’s first Peter Parker adventure and a decade after the introduction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse revolutionized superhero cinema. A visual marvel (pun intended) backed by witty humor, a deep heart and an understanding of what makes the character so beloved, it was not only the best Spider-Man movie, but potentially the greatest superhero movie ever made. Now, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse proves it was no fluke.
Building on the boundless creativity and imagination of its predecessor, Across the Spider-Verse infuses the genre with much-needed vitality and imagination, overwhelming audiences with an aesthetic audacity never seen in an animated film from a major studio. It stretches the boundaries of comic book cinema and takes advantage of the freedom animation provides without losing sight of what made the first film so special.

Spidey’s still got it. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” a sequel to Sony’s 2018 Oscar-winning “Into the Spider-Verse,” collected $120 million in its box office debut — a towering figure that’s more than triple the original’s opening weekend.
The first film, one of the intial cinematic introductions to the multiverse, started with a softer $34.4 million but turned into a word-of-mouth sensation during its theatrical run, which ended with $190 million in North America and $384 million globally. Now, thanks to the goodwill from “Into the Spider-Verse” and quality to match the hype, the follow-up film has managed to become a blockbuster from the jump. Already, “Across the Spider-Verse” has generated $208 million worldwide, including $88.1 million at the international box office. It cost $100 million.
“It’s really rare that sequels increase their box office,” says Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. “Usually, the law of diminishing returns applies.”

This article discusses major spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
Imagine you're an everyday citizen living in the biggest city in the Marvel world. You wake up, head out to grab some coffee, and make idle chitchat with your neighbors while minding your own business. Suddenly, you glimpse some brightly-colored figure swooping overhead and pay it absolutely no mind. It's just Spider-Man, likely on his way to save the day once again.
Every world in the Spider-Verse has its own spin on this typical series of events, from Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) in the Earth-1610 universe to Peter B. Parker's (Jake Johnson) Earth-616 to Gwen Stacy's (Hailee Steinfeld) colorful and impressionistic Earth-65. But while the broad strokes remain the same -- there's always a Spider-Person bitten by that radioactive spider, living in the big city, and protecting the people from all sorts of threats -- the details diverge in strange and unpredictable ways.

The long wait for "Across the Spider-Verse" is now over. Now, the wait for the trilogy-capper, "Beyond the Spider-Verse," begins. You may have heard that the Miles Morales-starring sequel ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, which means fans will have to remain patient if they want to see this grand, multiverse-spanning story through to its conclusion. We saw our young hero (voiced by Shameik Moore) reunite with his old pals Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), make a few new ones, and even cross paths with a couple of villains in Jason Schwartzman's The Spot and Oscar Isaac's Miguel O'Hara. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has finally arrived.
After a nearly five-year wait, the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s breakthrough (and Oscar-winning) “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is here. And it’s magnificent. Shameik Moore returns as Miles Morales, who thanks to his friendship with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) is drawn into a tangled web (get it?) of all-new Spider-characters like Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), Spider-Woman Jessica Drew (Issa Rae), Spider-Man India (Karan Soni) and the breakout new character Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya). Together, they are facing off against the evil new villain The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), a character that could threaten the existence of every dimension.
TheWrap spoke to Moore, Steinfeld and Johnson, as well as Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Vélez (who play Miles’ doting parents) about the new movie and what aspect they’re most excited about. (You can watch the video above.)
“This felt really ambitious.

The kid does so with unbelievable dedication and gusto — perhaps a bit too much because as he stretches himself thin while balancing his public and private personas, the weight of his double life is taking a swift toll on him. To complicate matters, a new villain emerges in the scene, harboring a vendetta against Miles for a string of unfortunate reasons, forcing Miles to once again step up to the demanding mantle of balancing great power with even greater responsibility.

When an antagonist of the barely villain-of-the-week variety shows up at the beginning of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," everyone, including Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), thoroughly underestimates him. Known as The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), this comic supervillain attempts to steal a convenience store Atm but is quickly intercepted by Miles after being nearly beaten up by the store manager. As Spot's arrival coincides with Miles' adjustment as the only Spider-Man in Brooklyn, it is easy to mistake this rather hilarious sequence as a tongue-in-cheek attempt at lightening the mood — while The Spot is pretty goofy, things quickly take a more sinister turn after his true motivations are revealed.
It is easy to deduce why The Spot is initially mistaken as comic relief against the backdrop of the solemn events that fuel the film, as his brand of villainy seems innocuous, even endearing at first.

In 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," different spider-powered individuals and villains from other dimensions converged on New York -- and also on the life of the newest Spider-Man, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore). In the long-awaited sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," Miles travels to some of those dimensions, and he's not the only one. Other major characters, like new villain The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), returning heroine Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and dubious ally Miguel O'Hara (Oscar Isaac) do their share of multiverse tripping as well.
Several universes are seen onscreen, including some only glimpsed through portals. We're ranking the ones that primary characters actually set foot -- or head, or arm -- in. If they do so only in flashback, that counts. From worlds inspired by one small change to others with wholly different aesthetics and physics, here are the 13 dimensions...

Are your Spider-Senses tingling? That's because this article is about to discuss major spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." You have been warned!
2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" had a lot of fun playing around with the idea that -- for most fans, at least -- if you've seen one "Spider-Man" movie, then you've seen them all. The screenplay relies on a series of recurring gags where various Spider-Mans recount their specific backstories and origins, humorously breezing past all the tropes we ought to know by now (a radioactive spider?? Uncle Ben dies?? What?!) so that the film could get to the really interesting stuff ... including the payoff where Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) finally narrates his own journey and earns his official comic book cover. The movie passes that baton on to "Across the Spider-Verse," though with one added wrinkle.
As we learn around the midpoint of the sequel,...

The ending of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has as many threads as a spider’s web.
The superhero sequel ends on a major cliffhanger, which co-director Joaquim dos Santos likened to “The Empire Strikes Back” in an interview with SFX Magazine.
“We hope that it’s a satisfying tee-up for what’s coming in the third film, because you want people to be excited about what’s coming next,” co-director Kemp Powers added. “And it helps that we knew going in that this was part two of a three-part story. Since you already know that that third story is guaranteed, you can tackle it a bit differently. That being said, there’s a lot of key characters in this film, and there’s a story in this film that has an arc of its own that we needed to complete.”

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" had big shoes and expectations to fill. The sequel is coming after an Oscar win and a revolution in Hollywood studio animation that has inspired experimentation in every major studio. And yet, the movie not only exceeded expectations but also crushes them. This is a grand achievement in myth building and deconstruction, with the film pulling not an "Empire Strikes Back" but a "Matrix Reloaded," interrogating the idea and tropes of the hero, while continuing Miles' poignant coming-of-age story.
Unsurprisingly, the film is gorgeous. It is easy to take that for granted but to see it with your own eyes defies description and expectations. Like the first film, it breaks apart the rules of animation to challenge the entire medium, but "Across the Spider-Verse" goes beyond, breaking film itself like it's the second coming of Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese's "Duck Amuck." The result is...

An odd notion you might say, but with this weekend’s huge film release, well you may just agree. So, it’s a sequel and yes, we’ve gotten a few of those already in this summer movie season. And it’s a superhero flick, along with three other flicks this year. And it’s also animated, just like that ground-breaking, game-changing Oscar winner from five years ago. Back then some thought, that this was a “cash grab”, that Sony was trying to squeeze the last penny from their live-action franchise. Wow, were those folks proven wrong. Hey, heads up the much-rumored “super-hero fatigue”, because here’s the “cure”. It’s finally time to swing into Spider-man: Across The Spider-verse, which might leave you with a big “Stan Lee-sized” grin on your face!

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Dan Baker on Wbgr-fm on June 1st, reviewing “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” another animated adventure for the web slinger in the multi-verse. In theaters on June 2nd.

The premise again is that there are that there are many Spider-Heroes, across multiple universes. We are back with Miles Morales (voice of Shameik Moore), who has settled into the spider role in his universe. He has a new nemesis, The Spot (Jason Schwatzman) a faceless humanoid whose spotted body can form real holes. Complications arise as The Spot gains more power, which has another universe’s Spider-Woman Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) visiting Miles again, renewing some feelings they had as a couple. When The Spot escapes into the multiverse, Miles follows close behind, ending up in several surreal places with several different Spider-Heroes, including his multi-universe mentor Peter Parker (Jake Johnson...

So it’s come to this: Spider-Man 10, technically. The future prophesied by many Hollywood alarmists, but now with more madness in the multi-verse (I cringe every time I hear it). Our prologue sees a super-powered Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) battling the iconic comic villain The Vulture, only to be interrupted by new variants like Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) and his pregnant wife Spider-Woman (Issa Rae) emerging from another universe to assist her. Come there be something a little nefarious with them?
We then catch up with the hero of the first film, Miles Morales, deep in the midst of anxiety about his secret identity being revealed to his parents. On top of this, when trailed by his own physics-bending villain The Spot (Jason Schwartzman)––who claims to have had a hand in Miles getting his powers––another complication arises as Gwen and Miles cross paths, again, across dimensions. These early...

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is looking like the very real deal, in the wake of so many mid superhero movies. To date, the Into the Spider-Verse sequel has a 95% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes, and most every review is loaded with superlatives.
But Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse came out so long ago (December 2018!), maybe you’d like a refresher before slinging yourself to the Cineplex to venture Across the Spider-Verse. Here is where and when you can rewatch (or enjoy for the very first time!) the Oscar-winning animated film.

Not to overstate the matter or anything, but "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is easily one of the most anticipated movies coming our way this year. Sure, superhero movies have made more money than 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," but few of them have had the same level of cultural impact and widespread acclaim. The movie's audience has only grown in the years since the release of the original, making the return of Miles Morales a true must-see for many Marvel fans out there.
Given that this is a Marvel movie we're talking about, one has to wonder what -- if any -- sort of post-credits scene is attached. We're here to give you the spoiler-free answer to that question so that you can head into the movie opening weekend armed with the knowledge you require to finally take that much-needed bathroom break. Seriously, there are no spoilers of any kind.

When 2018’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse introduced us to teenager Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), a new hero behind the web-patterned mask, it freshened up the by-now ubiquitous form of the superhero origin story in so many vital, bracing ways.

My great movie sense is tingling.
Like pretty much any cultural icon, the superhero we call Spider-Man has been through a lot of changes over the years. Different costumes, different characters inside of them, different universes. There’s a Spider-Man from Earth-5194 who defeats his enemies by distracting them with Hostess fruit pies. That’s not just a thing he did once. That’s his whole raison d’être.
The Oscar-winning film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was a beautifully animated story about Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), a teenaged Spider-Man who winds up at the center of a quantum singularity, which brought a whole bunch of different Spider-People into his world so they could save the multiverse. A dazzling fusion of impassioned superhero storytelling, humorous characters, and meta-textual insight, “Into the Spider-Verse” argues that every version of every character is equally important and valid. And after watching a movie that good,...

In 2002, Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" swung into theaters and changed everything. The film was a massive, massive success at the box office, and when that happens, producers and studios get itchy. If "Spider-Man" was a hit, surely more superhero movies would hit just as big! Of course, that wasn't true, and we got a series of mixed super flicks, some good, some not so good. Then 2008 came along and gave us the one-two punch of "Iron Man" and "The Dark Knight." The "realistic" superhero era was born thanks to "The Dark Knight," while "Iron Man" paved the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And we've been buried under the weight of it all ever since.
It is fair to say we're overloaded with superhero movies. I'm not here to deride anyone who still derives pleasure from these things, but as for me, I burned out on the subgenre a while ago.

We're a little over a week out from the release of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" — the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 Oscar-winning movie — and the first reactions to the film have arrived on social media. And according to critics who were lucky enough to catch an early screening, "Across the Spider-Verse" is "terrific," an "incredible accomplishment," and the "ultimate Spider-Man experience." As you might've expected, everyone is going ga-ga over the work put into the animation, noting how it's "impossible to see it all [and] experience it all in one sitting."
Collider's Steven Weintraub echoed that with his reaction: "Absolutely loved ['Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.'] Wanted to push pause about a hundred times to study the incredible artistry on display. Cannot recommend this film enough and already looking forward to seeing it again." Characters being highlighted include "Get Out" star Daniel Kaluuya's Hobart "Hobie" Brown/Spider-Punk who uses a guitar as a weapon,...

Miles Morales and the Spider-People Are Ready For Adventure in New "Across the Spider-Verse" Posters
The Spider-Verse is getting a massive expansion in "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," the animated sequel to the Oscar-winning film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."
Sony Pictures debuted the first official clip on Dec. 13, 2022, and in it, Shameik Moore's Miles Morales returns for an action-packed adventure that involves him and a whole lot of Spider-Men - also pictured in the film's poster that Sony released on April 26. This seems on par with what film producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller shared of the sequel at CinemaCon 2022, teasing that it's getting "way, way, way bigger."
The second official "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" trailer was released on April 4, 2023, teasing more shots of the movie's multitude of Spider-People and Miles's goal to control his own destiny. "Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go. Nah, I'm going to do my own thing," he says in the new three-minute preview.

Sony spun a golden web in 2018 with the smash-hit animated Marvel film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and this summer’s sequel is set to up the ante with another visually groundbreaking Miles Morales adventure.
In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles is flung into a wild multiverse where he meets a team of Spider-People who protect it. They’re called the Spider Society, and they’re led by a Spider-Man from the year 2099 called Miguel O’Hara (voiced by Oscar Isaac). While it might sound like a recipe for a wholesome team-up, Miles soon finds himself at odds with the Society in the midst of some multiversal chaos.
“Philosophically speaking, Miles holds our multiverse together,” director Kemp Powers tells Den of Geek. “He’s so different from the other Spider-People because he’s not so alone. He’s close to his friends and family and never hides anything from them.

The long wait for Sony Animation’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is almost over, and the film’s cast had a sneak peek to show attendees at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
Co-director Kemp Powers presented the film with Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, who play Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy in the “Spider-Verse” film. They were joined by Issa Rae, who plays Jessica Drew, another webslinger from another dimension.
In a 14-minute sneak peek, CinemaCon attendees saw an exhausted Miles get a surprise visit from Gwen that was teased at the end of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” She tells him about the multidimensional team of Spider-Men that includes Jessica and Miguel O’Hara, a cold, calculating Spider-Man from the year 2099.

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is one of the greatest animated films of all time, and one of the best superhero films of all time, with a fantastic story that mixes thrills with heart, introducing several heroes and making sure each felt alive, while also providing some gorgeous animated spectacle. Of course, anticipations for the sequel are nothing if not sky-high.
So far, however, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" seems to be doing all the right things, and promising to do everything people liked about the first one, while also doing something new. We know there will be six distinct art styles featured in the film, and the animation in the new trailer looks simply stunning, but there is also the introduction of dozens of new Spider-People, including Jessica Drew and Spider-Punk. Plus, the trailer makes it clear we are about to get lots of deep Marvel cuts, and even some actual creator credits.

Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya). Spider-Woman (Issa Rae). Spider-Man India (Karan Soni). Spider-Horse. They’re all here, and they’re all trying to catch Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man (Shameik Moore) in the new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The animated sequel to 2018’s modern classic Into the Spider-Verse finds young Miles Morales wrestling to balance his grades and his crimefighting — especially when a strange new villain calling himself The Spot (Jason Schwartzman) shows up. Thankfully, his old flame Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) pops into his universe to take him on a sort of inter-dimensional vacation to meet his previously unknown extended Spider-Fam.

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is nearly here, and in case you weren’t excited already, this brand-new trailer should do the trick. Watch it above, wall crawlers.
As the team behind 2018’s Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” have promised, this is going to be even crazier than that movie, featuring all new Spider-people and even more intricately imagined worlds. One of the coolest new aspects of this movie is the villain, The Spot (voiced by Jason Schwartzman), a character whose body is covered in inter-dimensional portals, which could seem very harmful (or potentially helpful) to characters traversing the vast and unique spider-verse.
Characters returning from the original film include Miles Morales (voiced again by Shameik Moore), Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), with new characters like the Vulture (Jorma Taccone) and Gwen Stacy’s dad George Stacy (Shea Whigham). Plus, we are sure that we can expect plenty of surprises,...

Did you watch "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and find yourself thinking, "Three Spider-Men is okay, but what if there were even more Spider-People"? If so, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is the movie for you. The highly-anticipated sequel to 2018's Oscar-winning animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" will bring back young protagonist Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), but this time instead of Spider-Folk from across the multiverse coming to visit him, Miles will be going on a journey across the multiverse to visit them.

The "Spider-Man" multiverse definitely has its fair share of Spider-people, and no film in the franchise has been more enthusiastic about the vast array of Spideys than 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." The animated movie introduced audiences to a plethora of web slingers; along with the film's main Spider-Man being none other than alternate universe Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), we also got to see everything from Jake Johnson's Peter B. Parker (a far more burnt-out and disheveled version of the Og Peter Parker) to even more obscure versions like Spider-Man Noir (Nicholas Cage), Penni Parker (Kimiko Glenn), and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney). We also briefly meet the original flavor Peter Parker (voiced by Chris Pine) in Miles' universe, but -- spoiler alert -- he's killed off almost immediately.
