Pete's Dragon (1977)
It's Worth It- Really!
18 November 2003
This movie has gotten its fair share of bad press, but you can't always believe everything you hear. Pete's Dragon is a cheerful and whimsical musical adventure for families who want to kick back and just be entertained, without having to worry about inappropriate content that seems to plague the family films of today.

The plot is very simple, and so is the character depth, but the musical numbers are fantastic, with catchy tunes and clever little dance sequences. And veterans Mickey Rooney, Red Buttons, and Shelley Winters seem to be having the time of their lives playing their respective wacky characters (something the adults can enjoy watching when you think about the cinematic history of those three performers).

Though it's not on the same rung as Mary Poppins on the tall Disney ladder, Pete's Dragon is still good, clean, innocent fun. Can't beat that, can you?
