There isn't any comedy or light-hearted entertainment in Micheaux's films. He's not Harold Lloyd or Charlie Chaplin admittedly, but he doesn't seem to be able to express a variety of ways of telling a story. Nevertheless, he was the black community's answer to Cecil B. DeMille at the time.
