Not as good as Dead Poet's Society
10 December 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I saw the previews for this movie and was desperately torn. Kevin Kline is my favorite actor, but it was already apparent that The Emporer's Club was awfully close to Dead Poet Society...and I admit that Kline is no Robin Williams. However, I went to see the film anyway. Other than a few differences, Kline's movie feels just like Dead Poet Society. The school, the uniforms, the children. The only difference lies in the (spoilers) main student. Instead of a studious wonder (like in DPS), you get a rebel. Both are under their father's thumb and feel trapped (yet ANOTHER similarity).

I'd say if you liked DPS you will like this movie also. However, if you are a HUGE fan of DPS beware. You may come away angry that it's such an obvious rip off for the most part.
