Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie in a 'fleapit' in Dublin when I was about 11 years old (I think about 1942) it has stayed with me all my life and I am amazed that so many others were affected in the same way, as with some other of your correspondents I was deeply moved by the ending. I seem to recall the son coming to the door and inviting the 'old tramp' inside and with the father's refusal and walking slowly away the whole cinema burst into tears! I am also surprised that the film is not shown on television although if it was shown I doubt if I could watch it, a grown old man crying is not a pretty sight! I would however recommend all my friends and family to watch it
