Sandy Frank's film fails at being a monster movie.
29 March 2006
I understand that the Japs didn't have the best of effects, that this movie was made in the 60's, and I'm completely cool with that. But can we please SEE the monster? Sandy Frank really let me down with this mess of sweaty fat Japanese people running around in a cave. After the laugh riots that were Fugitive Alien and Gamera vs. Gaos, I expected something more. What I got was maybe one or two minutes of Gamera vs. Barugon, and 86 minutes of bad acting, worse dubbing, and a plot that moves along so tediously it feels like you're watching 2001, only without the effects, or music, or any of the talent.

I suggest you avoid this painful part of Gamera's career. Watching it is a waste of time, and the laughs you might get from the somewhat dated effects aren't enough to cover the hours of boredom you'll suffer.

However, if you ARE going to watch it, look out for Torgo's random guest appearance!(review#4)
