Set This Town on Fire (1973 TV Movie)
8/10
aka The Profane Comedy
25 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Forgotten TV movie (apparently a pilot for a series that never materialized) is surprisingly good. Chuck Connors returns to town after years in prison for manslaughter, but new evidence seems to indicate he was falsely convicted. Local newspaper editor Carl Betz isn't so sure...

Connors is propelled to the Lieutenant Governor's nomination of the state (thinly disguised California) on the same ticket as Senator Porter (Paul Fix) who's the party's nominee for Governor. As election day approaches, will Carl Betz be able to prove Connors really was guilty after all?

According to Alvin Marill's book "Movies Made for Television", this one was filmed in 1969 as The Profane Comedy, but sat on the shelf nearly four years until airing on 1/8/73 under the new title Set This Town On Fire.
