Ending a bit unfair
28 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the two main characters. To me, they were becoming intimate gradually (the Quaid character being cautious) but there was palpable movement towards trust from both. They had a connection. So what gives with the ending? He just leaves her and goes back to his lonely salesman lifestyle. Why? He's already made love to her. He has no girlfriend at home. She had no kids and certainly would have made a good sidekick for him. And he'd just saved her life! I don't get why they didn't ride off together.

And while I'm at it, why does the Caan character have to kill the Meg Ryan character? She's not a witness. And even if she discovers her families' past what's she going to do--shoot him? Turn him in? It'd be a hard case to make. And she's not a witness. The only witness would probably not cooperate--that being the Dennis Quaid character (and his childhood recollections would be suspect anyway.) It seems like a good criminal would only commit murder when it's absolutely necessary. And this doesn't seem to qualify. Plus he knows his son won't let him do it. So maybe he's using his son to help him commit suicide. Hmmm.
