"Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired" is certainly a gripping and fact based documentary that's accurate with facts as you get to hear the truth thru interviews from both sides involved. If you follow entertainment surely over the years you heard about the controversial and scandalous 1977 liaison case between controversial and progressive director Polanski and a 13-year-old which occurred at Jack Nicholson's California mansion on Mulholland Drive in Beverly Hills. From the start this film shows the news highlights including interviews with police detectives and the D.A. who worked the case. Interviews are included with both defense and prosecuting lawyers, as both tell of the crazy and lackluster way that the judge handled the case. Thru all the legal distractions, and rulings and media frenzy Roman after pleading guilty to unlawful sex with a minor relocates to Europe, eventually ending up in France convinced that the judge would disregard the plea bargain. Finally after many years the public gets to hear from his alleged victim now she's all grown up and Samantha Geimer tells her side to us in a soul searching and honest manner. The film also aside from the legal and court highlights gives a good look as Roman's film glory showing highlights from his classics like "Rosemary's Baby", and "Chinatown". Even the loving story of his romance with actress Sharon Tate is spotlighted only it shows the pain and horror that Roman went thru after her tragic murder. So you be the judge a conflicted man who just acted a little out of line due to stress, and insecurities that was brought on by tragedy. Or was this a man who felt he was a larger than life figure who could do what he wanted and was above the law? Great documentary well done and directed by Marina Zenovich, it was good someone finally shed some light on the Polanski case, with actual factual interviews and highlights from the real life footage. Also hearing both sides talk lets you the viewer make your own decision as to how you feel about Roman Polanski.
