A delightful discovery.

Warning: Spoilers
I had not heard of this movie until TCM showed it on Christmas Eve. It was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend 94 minutes.

Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray were wonderful, which I expected. Beulah Bondi (as John's Mom) and Elizabeth Patterson (as Aunt Emma) were simply marvelous. The way they played off each other and doted on John brought a smile to my face.

I've noticed a few reviewers had a issue with the ending of the movie. I actually thought the ending was perfect. If John had lost the case to set Lee free I would have been disappointed. It would have diminished his character and pretty much wrecked the movie for me.

Having Lee take responsibility and John stand beside her as she hears her sentence is not the 'perfect' ending that most people hope for, but it's the perfect ending for me.
